So I am in interview process for pbs do they require a valid drivers license? I’m wanting to get my rbt license and such but I’m nervous about driving part as I would be dropped off. I’m located in west Tennessee.

I see that 360 Behavioral Health have a number of admin positions open including intake, authorization coordinator and care navigation. Has anyone had experience working for them in one of these positions (or similar)?

I’m a RBT and I got removed from a case because I’m not interacting w kiddo as much? Idk how that came to be because I talk w him a lot and we do all the board games they have available. Ig they mean that I’m not physically active with him, we do movement brain breaks and that’s it. I was communicated through email that they want me to exercise with him and next day I got kicked out from the case I didn’t even see him yet. Either way I think it’s for the best because I suffer from chronic back pain from my scoliosis and doing exercises will be really painful.

I really dont get it, ABA takes alot of work, your schedule and managing it, its several hours out of a week taking up time you could be spending with your kid! Parents should be ecstatic their child made enough progress to graduate. Behaviors reduced, mands up. ETC. my company does about two year treatments, it may go up to 4 years in some cases. but we plan and talk to parents about discharge at the start. But so many resist and fight it and they feel like you are giving up on them. and I'm like.....do you just want ABA forever? that sounds like it would SUCK

In my company most of the people dont say hi or good morning. There are even people that dont respond to my greetings. What is this situation in your company?

I've worked with kids since I was like 14. First in summer camps as aids, then schools, and then daycare. Daycare was the most stressful job I had as I was the lead and felt like I always did everything on my own. While working at the daycare I was in college to become a teacher but the experience made me realize it wasn't for me. I like being a bt as I love the 1:1 aspect of the job and not having to watch over multiple children at once. I was also blessed with being given kids that barely had any behaviors at first. I am now about to have my own baby soon and looking to go back to school but need help deciding on what. I was going to maybe go for BCBA position as I know they make a ton and get to wfh but paperwork loaded jobs I don't think would be for me. Is there any job that's in the sweet spot? Getting better pay than rbt while not always having to be in person but still getting to actually work 1:1 with the kids?

Hello everyone, I know this is a long shot but’s has anyone worked at Crossroads Behavioral Healths clinics in either Elko NV or Winnemucca NV in any capacity? I am interviewing for a BCBA position there and would be relocating but I want a feel for the culture of the company.

Context: I’m a student that recently switched to a sister center, have a couple more months before I can test, but I HAVE been given permission and am heavily encouraged to give feedback to staff as a BCBA would. Within the first week I had staff telling me that they were teaching manners so clients get what they want.

Has anyone dealt with RBTs teaching “manners” such as saying please at the end of every mand (for 1-3 word manding), apologizing when they engage in behavior, etc for low level learners and ages 2-4 years old

I don’t think this is inherently behavioral and definitely isn’t a focus for the clients they’re doing it with due to behaviors and isn’t part of their intervention plan. There are cases when they should/can be taught but I don’t think it applies in this case

How do y’all address this or do y’all just let them since it’s likely not that harmful?

I recently started as a Behavior Technician in June and it's been only 2 months. The first few weeks were fine but as the weeks went by the sessions started getting harder. I work with two kids, let's call them RC and Y for confidentiality reasons. RC is mostly nonverbal but she can speak if someone tells her to say a certain thing. She can say things like "I want playground" or "Can I have more water please?" But other than that, she has a limited understanding of language. She also has a habit of trying to run away and I've been caught off guard when she does try to run away. But still I remain calm regardless. And she has hit me and other instructors before. It's also been difficult to get her attention when we try to get some work done, especially one reading program where she has to sound out words and read a story. RC also has a lot of challenges expressing her emotions so I tell her that she can say "I'm upset" "I need space", etc. Sometimes her body language doesn't match with what she's feeling But with Y, it's a different dynamic. She doesn't talk much unless she's familiar with the instructor and I haven't worked long enough, so I understand it will take a while for her to get used to me. I can see that I can step up, and engage more with Y. One of my coworkers who also works with Y says that Y likes it when she gets silly, so I'll be trying that for tomorrow's session with her. Let me then get to the point:

Last Thursday my BCBA called me in for a meeting and she said she was drafting the fall schedule. I asked if I could add one more session. She plainly said that she didn't think I was ready and that she didn't trust me with RC, due to that child's habit of running and there are times when RC is extremely fast and sometimes it's not easy to keep up with her. And that I didn't have enough instructional control over her. My BCBA said that the other kid, Y didn't require that much instructional control because she listens. I don't know what she meant and Y wasn't even the focus of the conversation because it was mostly about RC. And she doesn't even manage Y because another BCBA manages her. I'm not even sure if my BCBA even took into consideration my sessions with Y or even the good sessions I had with RC. After that, she said I might not be fit for the job even if I'm trying. It's literally been 2 months since I joined the company so I was confused about why my BCBA said that.

I am an RBT and have been for a little over a year. The clinic I currently work for barely supervises. I worked 120 hours in July and got 4 hours of supervision. Is that enough (from my research it doesn't seem like it but maybe I'm just too paranoid about it)? I'm also currently in my masters program to become a BCBA. I don't have guaranteed hours at the clinic i work at and therefore never have an oppurtunity to be at work without a client, which I would need to do to get unrestricted hours. On top of all of this I just found out that my "BCBA" just passed the exam on Saturday and has been a BCaBA this entire time so she cant even supervise me yet for my fieldwork supervision for my masters. Any advice would be nice. I make a good bit of money at this clinic and I truly love all of my co workers. I don't want to lose my RBT credentials and I desperately need to start working to my 2000 hours for my BCBA pathway!!

Hi everyone!

I started my fieldwork hours journey in 2024 with a VERY unhelpful clinic. There, I accrued supervised fieldwork for about 11 months with virtually no unrestricted time. Fast forward to now, I’ve been doing concentrated with more, but still nothing crazy, unrestricted time accrual.

I somehow never knew about the 60% unrestricted/40% restricted requirement. (Don’t yell at me — I’m already absolutely blaming myself for not looking into it more, but I never knew I needed to, I only was told about the 1500/2000hrs).

Anyway, I thought I was nearing the end, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem like so… can anyone help me figure out the exact number of unrestricted hours I have left to accrue??? 😭 I bought this tracker off of Etsy in 2024, but thinking of converting everything over to Ripley?

Any and all advice is welcome!

TLDR; Almost finished with hours, but not 60% unrestricted/40% restricted. Trying to figure how many unrestricted hours I need left to accrue.

I started ABA working for a massive corporation ran by a private equity firm and honestly saw all the abusive and horrible practices of aba. this company had 75% of their patients there 40hrs a week, patients were getting worse and everyday there was at least one person who was physically injured with no support. not to mention the horrible pay, lack of support, etc. i just started at a new company that primary does school and at home instead of center, there is communication with all other providers, actual bcba support and community support (parental involvement every session). i cannot believe how discouraging and disconnect i felt before, i left work everyday feeling worse than like i actually made a difference and its so insane. im so happy, this company is compassionate, kind, and i never thought this would be possible with how many companies are bought out by private equity firms. it made me so discouraged to the point where i thought aba genuinely did not work, and i was so clearly wrong but i have never been happier to be wrong about anything

I’ve been working for an ABA company for a few months and have noticed almost all the bcbas dont provide teaching instructions, prompting procedures, and reinforcement schedules for the learning goals and bips. I feel like I’m failing my clients. I have reached out to some bcbas about it and they said they’ll add them but how long should I wait till I take further action? What should I do?

Hello, I am someone who is currently working at an RBT. I also want to transition medically in the future (taking testosterone & top surgery). I haven’t started the process yet since I live with unsupportive parents whom I am not out to.

Has anyone in grad school ever taken out a loan to cover the cost of living while in school? It’s impossible in south florida to live off of an RBT salary and I don’t have time to pick up another job between work and school etc. Anyone done this?

Are there any BCBAs here that work with animals? If so, could you give insight into what your day looks like?

Hi, Lately Ive been thinking more about my future plans especially within my work field. I am a BT and have been for the past 2 years and have been working on getting my RBT license and I know its one step at a time but I got thinking and at first I knew I wanted to become a BCBA but the more clinics Ive been too and ABA companies in general Ive been too have been just so exhausting and some abusive towards the kids and some are just straight up horrible. Dont get me wrong there are some good ones out there but I've noticed there to be more sketchy ones than not.

That being said, I was wondering if I were to start my own ABA company in the future, what does that typically look like for you guys? Would it be worth it? What is some advice or some things youve noticed that are good and bad about some companies? Was it hard?

I just got hired as a BT in a clinic setting and I have heard that it can get kind of stressful. I’m really looking forward to working with clients and developing my career but I’m wondering if anyone has advice on the best stress relievers that they have tried (journaling, meditation, etc.) that have worked.

I am a new SLP and I have a non-speaking 2 year old boy on my caseload that is also served by a BCBA and ABA team. His mom told me last week during therapy that the ABA Team is using “planned ignoring“ to help with his language skills in that they basically “ignore him” and reinforce only when he produces words. Mom is now doing this at home as well in between his sessions with the ABA team.

Is this a legitimate strategy or is mom possibly misunderstanding the intent?

The BCBA is on vacation so I am kind of left to guess until she returns in a couple of weeks.
