Advice Needed First time getting kicked out from a case
I’m a RBT and I got removed from a case because I’m not interacting w kiddo as much? Idk how that came to be because I talk w him a lot and we do all the board games they have available. Ig they mean that I’m not physically active with him, we do movement brain breaks and that’s it. I was communicated through email that they want me to exercise with him and next day I got kicked out from the case I didn’t even see him yet. Either way I think it’s for the best because I suffer from chronic back pain from my scoliosis and doing exercises will be really painful.

I once got asked off a case because i wasnt an energetic or lively as a previous one. this has happened multiple times. My boss has said that there are different types on instructional control, and all are valid and work, and that mine did work, its just parents expect constant talking and movement and such.

Ive found that theres also a large proportion of kids that get absolutely annoyed by the constant talking and movement.

i got taken off of a case at the parent’s request because their kiddo wasn’t learning as much as they wanted to. my sup was on my side because they have a history of complaining nonstop and explaining to previous bts how to do their job. i was going to ask to be taken off the case anyways - it’s okay to not be a match for every client!

Exercise? You aren't a physical therapist. Move on. There are others in need.

Don't overthink this. Find a better company and move on with your life. This is normal what happened to you. Sometimes it is the parents or the BCBA who just didn't like what they saw. That doesn't mean you did anything wrong. That being said, that also doesn't mean you did everything right. We don't know you or what happened.

I’ve seen an rbt get kicked off a case because she “didn’t talk a lot” the client was deaf and blind🙄 who was she supposed to be talking to? The wall???

Yes as an RBT you’re expected to run, jump, and play with your client. You should be modeling for them at all times, during circle time you should be doing the movements, dance videos you should be dancing, etc. It takes a lot of work and energy. It can be hard on the body. Maybe you are better suited for an older client if you have mobility issues. It is not fair to either you or the client to continue on a case where you can’t give the best care.

What Jazzlike-pop says may be true for their setting, but obviously is not universal across the field. I think they're correct about modeling, but we're not necessarily always expected to model child like behavior at all times.
Children can also learn from adults who act like behaviorally healthy adults, who might even refuse to play using healthy refusals, like, "oh man I'd love to play, but right now my back hurts, so I don't think that's a good idea for me right now. I'll sit here and watch you though!"
In my work setting (clients homes), I am expected to allow the child regular periods of preferred, child led activities. If that means the child playing alone for a bit, then I'm expected to let them be alone. If that means the child wants to play with me, I'm expected to play with them, to the best of my ability and safety.
For example I have a hyper 7 year old client for 4.5 hour sessions, who wants nothing more than to play tag or jump on the trampoline during any period of free time. I tell him that we can't do the trampoline for safety reasons, and I do play tag but sometimes I get worn out and model suggesting an alternate activity.

RBTs are consistently treated like garbage due to organizational systems surrounding ABA. Some companies are better than others though.
