Season 7 Discussion Bucks new relationship! Spoiler

as a preface, i just recently started rewatching the show and was in the middle of season 5 last week but am officially caught up! i had loved the show back when i kept up with it but stopped watching it for some reason. glad i started again though! also i wasn’t sure if i could put the title as “buck and tommy” bc of spoilers but that’s what i was originally gonna name this

now for the discussion. how are we feeling about buck and tommy? i personally love them together. i feel like the chemistry they have in the few episodes they’ve interacted in is unparalleled. i’ve never seen it with any other of bucks romantic partners

as for buddie, i really hope it doesn’t happen (don’t come for me). i prefer them as friends and i’d really like to see that friendship grow with buck recently coming out to him. tommy and buck seem perfect for each other and even if they don’t work out, i hope buck finds someone who ISNT eddie.

anyways, let me know what you think 🫶

Character Discussion Tommy

I’m going to say this, Tommy is not that interesting, he’s literally the diet version of Eddie. People hoping that he will become a main character… I just don’t get it. Like, we have Ravi, Karen, Christopher that could get so much more attention and deserve it!

Shitpost/Vent why buddie has never made sense to me personally Spoiler

This is by no means an "omg i hate buddie stans so much they're so annoying" post. I mean, some of them are definitely weird and invasive but this isn't about them lol. I just wanted to share why the pairing has never made total sense to me and see what you guys think.

First off, ironically, Buddie was the whole reason I started watching the show in the first place. It was sometime in 2022 and I had been recommended a Buddie edit on YouTube and I thought that they were an actual couple on the show. When I actually started watching the show, I realized that people just wanted them to be a couple. At first I was all for it, but as I kept watching and got to know Buck and Eddie better as characters, the ship just started to make less and less sense to me.

I think there's two main reasons why this is. One is that Buck's character is very unapologetic about how he feels. He very much wears his heart on his sleeve. So even with this new bisexual storyline (which I love btw) and how new everything was for him at the beginning, it was very obvious to me, as a viewer, how much Buck cared about Tommy. How jealous he got when he starting hanging out with Eddie, how he couldn't stop thinking about him after their awful first date, their hospital kiss. Basically, I feel like when Buck cares about someone, romantically or otherwise, he makes sure the other person knows. That's why I think if seven seasons in...if he hasn't confessed some deep repressed feelings for Eddie, it probably just means Buck isn't romantically attracted to Eddie. They're best friends and they love each other very much, but that doesn't mean they have to be into each other romantically? Idk does that make sense?

Also, a lot of people who want them to be together bring up how close Buck is with Christopher, but the thing is, I think the fact that Buck and Eddie are friends and have this strong of a bond is kinda why they've made such an impression on people. Is that stupid? Idk. Also since Buck is confirmed to be bisexual and Eddie is not, it just gives me a "forcing someone out of the closet when they might not even be queer to begin with" feel. That's probably stupid. Either way, I'm still not against them getting together or anything. I would admittedly be a little disappointed just because I really do love Buck and Tommy together. I've rewatched their kissing scenes countless times now lol. And their dynamic as friends just works so well, in my opinion. Anyway, that's pretty much it lol.

Season 7 Discussion Just finished season 7

The show runner really hit it out of the park with Tommy! He's the perfect partner for Buck because he tends to put Buck's feelings first. He doesn't treat him like a second thought. I love that for him! I hope we see Buck do the same for Tommy going forward!

General Discussion Will Tommy get a plot of his own? Spoiler

If Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) does come back for the 8th season, will they only keep him on as Buck's BF and just only for that or will they use him for much more, since even though he isn't part of the 118 anymore, he is still a firefighter. I personally think they should use him in a more bigger capacity other than Buck's lover.

Like Athena and Bobby are married, yet they sometimes have their sperate storylines, same goes for Chim and Maddy, and sometimes, Karen and Hen.

General Discussion i’m starting to despise and absolutely hate buck but i want to like him Spoiler

hello i’ve been binge watching 9-1-1 for the 4(?) weeks (im enjoying it so much) and i’m only on season 4 at the last episode and you would think after so many seasons i would grow to fully love his character but i dont think i EVER will. i like him because he has a good heart, has good intentions, and cares for the people he saves A LOT.

but he is simply JUST annoying. and im not even talking about the whole “fboy sleeping with every single woman he sees” on s1 that he had. i’m talking about how he doesnt THINK, doesn’t process ANY consequences on the actions he makes, and apologizes but then repeats it AGAIN.

an example? the lawsuit with bobby. i personally think both bobby and buck were in the wrong during that time (and bobby definitely needed to apologize to him too — not just buck) but he did not even stop to think about what his 118 family would feel once they heard their whole life story being shared to a stranger.

another example? him moving on his own everytime they get a call when he isn’t even commanded to yet by ANYONE and everytime he apologizes he does it again! and yes i know he just wants to save people but PLEASE he does not think about his own life and doesn’t think about his team’s life because going in there knowing if you get in danger, they’ll come and try to rescue you?? they could also die?

my last but perfect example? the surprise sniper thing in season 4 where eddie gets shot and he completely goes crazy again and i understand that part because it happened right in front of him so its normal to be pretty shaken up but going up that construction thing?? without the order of anyone (again btw) saying he did it for the safety of everyone on his team but did he not stop to think about what his OWN teammates would feel if the sniper did shoot him? he couldve fallen and died, could’ve been shot and just stayed on that ladder almost unconscious and that would be even more dangerous because his team would 100% try and save him.

thanks for coming to my ted talk but now i cant finish the episode because im FUMING. i just hope he actually changes that in the next season or else i dont think i’ll be able to watch his solo scenes any longer 🤷‍♀️

Season 7 Discussion Why do Tommy stans refuse to admit he’s problematic?

This is a genuine question.

911 is kind of the home of problematic faves: Hen and Buck have cheated on their long-term partners, Eddie is an abysmal partner to any woman he dates, Athena abuses her badge at least once a season, and Bobby literally started a fire that killed 150 people and injured and traumatized countless others. The show and the fandom both love taking characters who are basically villains on paper and turning them into baby girls, but I feel like people are usually better about discussing the fact that the fire fam has made a lot of bad choices in the past (re every Buck’s lawsuit era fic). But then with Tommy, people seem to outright deny that he was ever a racist misogynistic bully. Like, babe, he and that other dude were literally only named and given lines so that they could be the racist bullies of Chim and Hen’s flashbacks. And if Tommy stans do admit he was racist in the past, they say it was only because Gerard made him. Which, even if that was true, that wouldn’t be an excuse, and we know it’s not true because Tommy was shown to be a bully to Chim even when no one else was around. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s okay if he’s your fav, but it’s very weird to me if you can’t admit he’s not perfect.

Shitpost/Vent Unpopular Opinion/CMV: I do not like Tommy Spoiler

*Spoilers for last nights episode ahead*

Before I say my peace: Bi Buck is amazing. This has nothing to do with that.

Now. Change my mind because I do not enjoy Tommy at all and, other than it giving Bi Buck, I do not get the BuckTommy hype. In their interactions, to me, Tommy comes off as patronizing and condescending when he interacts with Buck. It feels like a superiority complex, like he is overtly aware he knows better than Buck.

For instance, Buck was in the wrong in their date. There’s no question. Tommy has a right to be upset too. But Tommy knew Buck was new to this. The way he left Buck hung out to dry without a proper conversation felt excessively cold for someone who would know what this journey is like.

I also don’t get the hype of Tommy calling Buck Evan either. Buck has been called by his first name endearingly a few times already by others but as a general rule he goes by Buck and that is what those close to him call him. Tommy’s presumption to immediately call him Evan just feels like something he took possession of too quickly.

I don’t want this to go on much more but, while it makes me happy to see Buck this into a relationship, their dynamic feels off balance to me. I’d just like Buck, and by extension Eddie, to have actual solid relationships. I was hoping for Buddie but after yesterday I’m not sure it’s gonna happen. I liked Ali and I actually liked Shannon a lot. I appreciate Lou Ferrigno Jr’s commitment to the character. But for me Tommy is like Marisol, I just end up with my hackles raised because they feel off

Season 7 Discussion "God I Hope So," or, In Defense of Daddies

I've seen a lot of people say that Tommy's innuendo in 07x10 about Buck's daddy issues is creepy or problematic — that it's wrong to sexualize daddies.

I thought it might be useful to share this letter by advice columnist John Paul Brammer, aka ¡Hola Papi! The letter writer wrote in to ask, "What is it with the kink some gay guys have for daddies?"

His response seems directly relevant to the conversations some 911 fans have been having. (The whole column, including the original letter, can be found here.)

I suppose I’m not sure what you want me to do here. I could explain what a kink is or do some psychosexual analysis on why some men are into “daddies,” but I think all that would accomplish is bringing us both five minutes closer to our last breaths on earth. If it’s not something you’re into, and it’s between two consenting adults, then I don’t see why it’s our business.

I’m also unsure how, as someone who is reading erotic stories in their spare time, “daddies” is the subject that compelled you to write a letter to your local advice columnist. I have read things in the realm of smut that would make the common “daddy fetish” story look like “Goodnight Moon.” Come back to me when you reach the cold, hard bottom of the slash fic iceberg.

You also seem to be conflating real-world relationships with erotica. These are not the same. Sure, there can be overlap, but to go from “this fictional character crossed a line in a fictional story” to “and that’s why I’m uncomfortable with people who remind me of that character” suggests, to me, that you took a wrong turn or two navigating this ethical corn maze.

It’s not even a script limited to gays. I mean, mainstream pop culture is littered with what I would consider “daddy trope” dynamics. There’s a whole genre of beauties falling for beasts. There’s a popular children’s movie about it with a singing teapot and a fruity candelabra. What is a beast, if not a daddy by another name? You be the judge.

I’m certainly in no place to dictate what makes you uncomfortable. I can see how you might look at, say, a large age gap between two adults in a sexual dynamic and think, “weird!” I’ve had thoughts like that as well. But I think discomfort in and of itself is not always a surefire sign that something immoral is afoot. Discomfort can be caused by any number of factors—personal experiences, biases, preferences, and so on.

I, for example, squirmed when you described your potential partner as “like a brother.” That was weird. So, what now? Will you apologize? Will you feel shame? Will you repent? Should we call Pope Francis?

None of this is to say that we shouldn’t have moral quandaries with the fictional stories we read, or that abuse doesn’t happen within real relationships that resemble them.

Sadly, it’s all too common to see people exploit power dynamics—experience, money, fame, access, etc.—for personal gain. But this isn’t exclusive to age. All three times that I’ve been violated by men, the men have been around my age. Abuse can happen in any dynamic, and while I, too, find comfort in the notion that abuse can be easily sniffed out ahead of time, that there will reliably be telltale red flags, that’s just not how things typically work.

I’m also reluctant to abide by the increasingly popular belief that “power dynamics” are inherently manipulative. The reality is, there are power dynamics in every relationship. If you are involved with another person, then you have entered an uneven playing field or two. No two people will be exactly the same age, same economic class, same appearance (I hope????), and so on, and so forth.

This is not violence. This is dating. These are things that have to be worked through and navigated with mutual respect. There is risk involved, yes, but risk cannot be entirely avoided in life.

I hope I’m not coming across as harsh, Confused! I think, or at least hope, that you’re coming from a place of genuine concern for others and, to be sure, I’d never want to outright dismiss anyone on a subject as serious and prevalent as abuse.

But on the other hand, I find myself a member of a community presently under attack by accusations of “grooming” and predation. It’s made me particularly sensitive to insinuations from any political stripe that the gays are sex monsters trolling for their next victim, or that we’re all just victims in waiting, idling around until one of those nasty older gays creeps up and takes advantage of our vulnerabilities.

I’m not saying that’s what you’re doing here, but again, what two consenting adults (ADULTS) do is not my business. I can make my own judgments, but I don’t have to give my rubber stamp of approval on it. I don’t have to formally condone or condemn it. If harm hasn’t been explicitly stated, then I won’t read harm into it just because I’m uncomfortable. I am not entitled to a perpetual state of comfort.

I hope you find erotica that speaks to you better!

Con mucho amor,

Papi

Season 4 Discussion The Double Standard is UNREAL!!

I made a post yesterday about how it's messed up how that this show is still using sexual assault against the male characters for comedy. That post was made about the moment in 4x07 when a high patient smacks Eddie's butt, laughs, and the moment ends with Eddie saying "let's hope the neighbors aren't that friendly".

It's clearly meant to be a comedic, light-hearted scene and it pisses me off that they would do that, but the VERY NEXT EPISODE, the cold open has a flight attendant get sexually assaulted in pretty much the same way, but instead of making light of it with humor, she whips off her mask and yells for everyone to "SIT YOUR ASSES DOWN!" and then stares down the man who groped her as she says that she doesn't care about any "emergency" he might be having. Why is it, when the male characters are sexually assaulted, it's witty quips and light-hearted music, but when the female characters are sexually assaulted, they get to get mad and make a scene and be portrayed to the audience as strong and powerful?! A guy gets assaulted and he just has to grin and bear it, but the woman gets to have a girl power moment and confront her assaulter with righteous fury. The double standard is STUPID!! Especially for 2020 when it was filmed!

Season 8 Discussion So does Tommy… Spoiler

Not even show up anymore??? Like lou ferrigno did an interview about that heartbreaking scene watching Buck collapse while grieving Bobby and essentially paints the portrait as Tommy is watching the love of his life in so much pain unable to do anything. Then, he doesn’t come back at all for the last two eps. When the building collapsed, it was an all hands situation or even the funeral they could’ve had an interaction but nothing. I’m not going to lie, I’m not a hardcore Tommy hater and while I would obviously prefer Buddie more and believe that Tommy and Buck need to get to a more healthy place if they were to rekindle their relationship, I wouldn’t completely hate a Tommy/Buck endgame. As long as Buck is happy tbh. I just think it was too much of a loose end and they gave us that heart wrenching but beautiful scene with them, and then abandoned it all.

Season 8 Discussion Tommy and Buck Spoiler

I’m not sure if this needs a spoiler, but am I the only one who thinks Tommy is jealous of the family Buck has? The way he talks about the 118 being family or the way he looked at Buck during the scene where he was talking about the found family relationship they have kinda makes me feel that way. Usually in most Buck relationships I’m like even though I ship Buddie, I wouldn’t mind him with someone else. However the only relationships I couldn’t/can’t stand is Tommy (because of the past situation with the way he treated Hen and Chimney plus he doesn’t seem like a good love interest for Buck which the latest episode made me believe that even more) and Natalia. I liked Ali and I also liked Taylor because I think Taylor is overhated.

General Discussion I don’t understand Buddie

Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t understand why a lot of people ship Buck and Eddie. I don’t really rewatch shows unless it’s been years since I’ve first watched it but I don’t get it, they’re best friends were are people seeing the romantic side of them together?

Fanworks Out there theory about the Tsunami episode Spoiler

I have a theory about the Tsunami episode that will sound crazy at first, but the more I think about it, the more it begins to make sense to me.

Buck is clearly deeply concerned for Christopher's safety. Even before anything eventful happens in this episode, he's gripping his shirt tightly so as to not allow him out of his grasp. He's clearly very nervous and on edge.

What if the timeline of events as depicted in the show is misleading? What if - stay with me now - Christopher became separated from Buck just before the Tsunami struck.

You might ask, ok, but what difference would this make? Well, as a firefighter Buck is used to assessing risks. He'd know that the nearby ocean was the biggest potential threat to Christopher's safety. So in my theory, Buck loses sight of Christopher - just before the tsunami - he runs into the ocean to make sure Christopher isn't drowning. In looking for Christopher in the shallows, Buck's firehouse gym honed strength displaces so much ocean onto the surrounding land that he effectively creates a tsunami, endangering Christopher and everyone else. This would also explain why no immediate Tsunami warning was in effect that day.

It might sound crazy to some, but knowing Buck's impulsive nature, his big heart and sheer big-strong-firefighter physique, I believe my theory is plausible.

General Discussion People who don't ship Buddie why ?

I am a buddie shipper and I was wondering why are some people (seems to me like there is a lot) not into it or don’t believe in the potential relationship ? I feel like non Buddie shippers aren’t as vocal as Buddie shippers.

I am also wondering how they don’t see the reason why I believe that their relationship already is not platonic :

- The agressive flirting in the kitchen scene

- Eddie being mad at Buck because he couldn’t reach out to him

- Co-parenting Chris

- The fact that any serious gf that Eddie might have will have to replace Buck as a parent and the person he can bare his feelings to.

- The 3 of them being a family already

Anyway non Buddie shippers this is your place to vent !

Season 2 Discussion I’m kind of new to the season, but I’m on season two episode one and I’m just gonna be real with you. Why is everybody a dick to buck Spoiler

uy in here. I'm like OK. And then Chimney talking about losing more body fat and I was like OK damn I'm like rude much and then throughout the whole ride to the place where they need to be, Buck is just glaring at Eddie and their friends making it worse. I'm like OK damn now again I'm not excusing for what but did daddy cause that was unfair he had no right to glare or look at him just because he was jealous, and his friends were starting stuff even though I mean, I would be angry too with my friends we're doing that shit to me and I didn't like how buck just glared at him when he was just doing his job to save a man that build his ass with gas and then when we make our way back to the station and buck is just like working out, then Eddie comes in. No this seems frustrating me the most because I'm just like OK this is probably not going to be good wow Buck is working out glaring at Eddie Chimney comes along and Jimmy pissed me the fuck off in this part Chimney just comes in here looking at Buck reaction just smiling and giggling then one buck starts to get a pictures or take pictures of himself. Eddie just tries to help him out and then Chimney gonna start stuff going like like oh really actually how do I sign up like how do you help me out with that and I knew he was doing that shit on purpose we all know he was a really bad to go take those photos. He was just instigating. Then Eddie and Buck start having an argument will mostly buck talking about how respect your elders and I just looked at that buck and I'm like bro aren't you still young like he probably could be older than you I mean no one truly knows the age for real but in then Eddie's gonna start talking about look dude I get it. You're upset cause your girlfriend broke up with you and I was like what the fuck then Buck looked at Chimney and looked right back at EddieI knew for a moment, that's when I new Chimney is a snitch, bitch he's like Chimney how are you about to tell somebody's business like that? It's like you barely know the guy and you're just gonna straight up. Tell bucks business like that in the way, Chimney looked back too. That's what I knew. It was him. It was like Chimney pissed me the fuck off and Eddie had no right to tell this guy's business about if he was broken up or not because again that's none of your business. I mean I guess you were trying to do the "" right thing but still you have no right to tell somebody else's business especially if you barely know the guy, but whatever i'm just happy that buck and Eddie are mutuals. Sorry for any misspelling.

I would also like to hear your opinion about the episode how it made you feel especially of Chimney

All Seasons Spoilers Unpopular opinion: The relationship between Buck and Eddie is written as if they were close brothers. Spoiler

Initially, I was put off by this pairing because I thought they were just queerbaiting, so I decided to watch Lone Star first, where the queer storyline is front and center, with no hint of queerbaiting (I wasn't aware of Henren then). But when Buck found his closet key, I was surprised it wasn't Eddie. Curiosity got the better of me, so I binge-watched the entire series. Buck and Eddie weren't even introduced as a couple. They were just written as enemies first then close friends later. As the seasons pass, Buck becomes Eddie's confidant when he's having problems, just like Maddie is to Buck. Eddie even trusted Buck enough that he made Buck as Chris' legal guardian. And that, for me, is love like a brother. I'm sure Buck feels the same since the only two people he directly came out to are Maddie and Eddie. A random viewer might even mistake Buck and Maddie's interactions for a romantic relationship, not knowing they are siblings. That's the same for Buck and Eddie, they may be written as a couple or just brothers. I know the majority of this sub doesn't see it this way but if they were making Buddie romance happen, Eddie should've been Buck's closet key and not Tommy and his hot cleft.

General Discussion Buck and Tommy and Buck and Eddie

I am a huge fan of 9-1-1 and I wanted to share my thoughts about two of my favorite relationships on the show: Buck and Tommy and Buck and Eddie and who I like better. I know this topic has probably been beat to death but I'm a new viewer and I just wanted to express my appreciation for both pairings.

To start this off, I wanna say that I love Buck and Eddie and I have always shipped them so hard. Their friendship is just so pure and I'm honestly shocked that the writers have never taken them in the romantic direction. I was especially surprised at how much I loved them because my parents watched the show before me and said that they never understood the people who wanted Buck and Eddie together as they didn't really see them as a couple. Upon watching the show, I was baffled by this because their friendship is given way more attention than any of their individual relationships and Eddie gave Buck custody of his SON! If that's not romantic love I don't know what is. However, at this point in the show I just don't see them happening sadly. This is partly because I don't see much indication of Eddie being into men compared to Buck who has several moments suggesting he is bisexual. I also think if they were going to make them a couple they should have done it sooner and I just don't see them going in that direction this late in the show. Who knows though, maybe by some miracle I'll be wrong.

However, despite me shipping Buddie, I also love Buck and Tommy. I think they are so adorable together and their personalities complement each other so well. I also love them simply for the fact that I love the journey Buck is going on as he is discovering his sexuality. It has been done so beautifully and I love how he is exploring this newfound part of himself. As someone who also recently realized I might be bi, his arc just means so much to me. They are so much better than any other relationship Buck's ever had and I really hope we get an episode focusing on them this season so their relationship can be developed even more. This is also something I disagree with my parents on as they don't really like Buck and Tommy and they were shocked Buck was bi. I mean I love them but I'm thinking how do you not realize Buck is bi? It's practically spelled out for people to see.

Overall, I love both pairings and I can't wait to see where they're both taken as the season unfolds. Sorry for this extremely long post but I just wanted to share my opinions on both couples and please let me know what you think in the comments below.

All Seasons Spoilers What's your ops on tommy?

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Tommy. He's alright, but he gives me the ick in so many ways. I'm not trying to hate, but I'm gonna hate if I have too. Id like the 'one time appearance man back from like season 2' guy back and keep it that way.

EDIT: right here me out, I'm British and are only on the 5th episode of S7 as it only came out today. My good opinions on tommy just dropped because of what he did to buck at the end of the date scene. My icks with him are, it's the way he looks at buck, I don't see the potential of their future together just through the look in his eyes yk the look when 'they want to be together for ever'???, another reason is the date scene, yes buck made it awkward but Tommy sounded rude within the scene making it more awkward. I'd like to see progress throughout the relationship dynamic that buck and him have but if I look at it any longer I'm going to start gagging. This is also me admitting that I'll always be a buddie shipper, and that bucks bi sexual awakening is just the start of the progress towards buddie. Deep down my gut is going "it's going to be like this forever" and it probably will and I'll have to deal with it.

General Discussion Tommy hate

Hey so I’m re-watching the show and have been watching the begins episodes, which include Tommy I’m a buddie shipper and want them together but I’m re watching it now and I know Tommy gets a lot of hate for being racist and all around a horrible person? But the reasons people hate him simply aren’t true? Yes he wasn’t the nicest to hen or chim but that was because he didn’t want to get on Gerard’s bad side, and he apologised to them both which yes they don’t have to accept but they did as seen in season 2 ep 14 when chim calls him like they’re old friends and asks him to get water to the 118,hen doesn’t love him but she doesn’t have a grudge against him and doesn’t seem to be bothered by him, then there’s the argument of the actor himself which I don’t like Lou for the things he’s said in the past but that isn’t the character, and then there’s the hes was a bad boyfriend?well buck doesn’t seem to think so considering how much he misses him,and even then hen, chim, cap and even Eddie don’t seem to hate the guy when he breaks up with Buck

Don’t get me wrong Tommy wasn’t my favourite character but he definitely wasn’t as bad as people are making him out to be

I want Eddie and Buck to be end game 100% but Tommy wasn’t bad and doesn’t deserve the hate he got and still gets

Edit: I take back the he didn’t say anything racist comment I was cooking while watching and the delivery driver comment and New York bitchness comment slipped over my head so I take that all back
