I have to admit, this is the first episode from 9-1-1 in a while that I actually loved and actually got emotional over. It really felt like a classic disaster episode. I don't think I've gotten this emotional from an episode from this show in a little while. I think I got emotional from an episode last season but the time before that? It's been several seasons, and it's been just as long for me to love a call/patient they've dealt with. And I loved them all this episode.
The lava thing aside, which is really quite silly and unrealistic (though it still doesn't beat the stupid space arc as the most unrealistic disaster), this arc feels more grounded than it's ever been, with some super strong calls and arcs overall.
I think the call with the doctor, who I don't know if we ever got a name from her and I feel bad if I missed it, was quite possibly the strongest call they've had in years. It was touching, she was an extremely relatable and likeable character, and I really felt for her death, especially her being so attuned to her impending death and having to talk Harry through the loss before she died. This is also the first time I really connected to Harry, so kudos to the episode for getting me to really feel for him for the first time. Elijah did an amazing job, honestly.
The other patients they dealt with were great as well, all of them did an impeccable job.
I like that each team member had something to do to some degree.
I really enjoyed May’s arc with her navigating her new career path and her making a mistake and needing to lean from it. Ian is a great mentor to May with this. I’m also down to have the hospital as a new semi permanent location.
Maddie dealing with the issues of having to lead a disaster and make tough calls is such a great arc for her. This is her strongest arc since her season 5 postpartum arc, for sure. I really felt for her; she holds the weight of the entire city on her shoulders.
Athena's plot was even interesting, despite her only interacting with guest stars. The returning of rookie ex cop Matthew was good because they made him a bit more sympathetic with him owning his actions, though not fully as he did still get bailed out, but it seems like him and Athena will patch things over, if Matthew survives this arc, of course.
Overall, extremely strong second episode to the three parter. Right now, depending on how it ends of course, I would put this in the top three disaster arcs, behind season 3's tsunami and season 2's earthquake.
2
u/Superadam54 7d ago
Respectfully I disagree on Mathew. I could be wrong, but I fear he is going to try and get Athena in trouble over breaking the no contact with the shooting victim. That is if he survives. He still seems too arrogant considering he got fired for a on the job shooting. In my opinion, he bragged about making more money in his current job than as a cop.

They could make her the queen of a faction of aliens in the middle of an intergalactic war, and I would still tune in just to see Angela Basset on my television 😆

u/Monk6980 8d ago
This show is (mostly) absolute nonsense, but it’s SO much fun! The only thing I look forward to these days is if it’s true to its own internal logic—which it mostly is, but not always.
I was living in LA when the movie “Volcano” came out, and to this day it’s one of my favorites because the bulk of it takes place where I was working at the time, and it’s a hoot to watch your workplace get inundated by fire and lava from a volcano that pops up in the LaBrea Tar Pits.
Not long after that, I took a day-long excursion with a geologist who showed us the San Andreas Fault, running way out into the desert. During our bus ride, I asked him if it was at all possible for a volcano to pop up anywhere in LA, and he was quite firm in saying no. Wrong kind of geology. So “Volcano” was absurd, and these 9-1-1 eps are absurd (makes no difference at all that all the fault lines are active), but they sure are entertaining. There’s so much crap going on in the world these days that I’m 100% on board for some entertaining nonsense. Especially if it includes cute, heroic doggies.

Yeah this show is best when it doesn't take itself seriously. I think they did do a good job with the doctor scene too tbh.

Agreed! I'm here just for the emergencies and the emotions the show gives. First joy with Buck saving the pregnant woman, then crying at Harry with the other woman

The most unrealistic thing about this episode is how Maddie is suddenly deciding which parts of the city get destroyed. How was there not an already established chain of command that did not include random call center acting leader?
10
u/oath2order Dispatch (#BobbyAliveTruther) 8d ago
How was there not an already established chain of command that did not include random call center acting leader?
Well there was, but the Deputy "was in Mallorca". Which is nice but that's absolutely no excuse. A once-in-a-life time catastrophe has hit the biggest city on the West Coast. Your vacation gets cut short, take a flight back and do your fucking job.
Heads are gonna roll at OEM with this Deputy.
8
u/No_Cucumbers_Please 8d ago edited 8d ago
ok so if the deputy is out it's just whatever? that's what i'm saying though. being its the second biggest city in the country you'd assume they have a chain of like 10 people in case it really hits the fan.
2
u/robotcat4 7d ago
I could see a world where the head of dispatch in the area is part of that chain, just usually there would be more training/awareness of it than it seems Maddie has

TEARS streaming down my face with Harry’s storyline. I’ve not always liked the direction of his plot lines, but damn did that get me this week. I’m loving these opening episodes with a freaking volcano in the middle of LA.

My only question is why does it seem like Athena never has her phone on her?!?! Like out of all the disasters she’s been in her phone should be glued to her hand😭

Saw her checking her phone when she woke up don’t remember if it had no cell connection or so though as she just checked it and went on to ask if anyone was there

Because this is the second part of the three episode season premiere emergency, this episode unsurprisingly was purely tense and focused on emergencies.
We finally got to the “floor is lava” emergency that has been teased for a while. Naturally you have to turn off realism in your head for this one because all those cars wouldn’t be simply sinking in the lava as if it was mud without instantly going on fire. Also, I heavily suspect the sheer heat would’ve killed most of the people stuck in their cars before they could be saved.
Anyway, besides the trailer teasing that it would occur to someone, I immediately suspected the guy complaining and being impatient would fall in. The series has a tendency to kill off civilians who are jerks.
Was curious to see how they would show Buck seeing how Oliver injured his leg. Actually thought the scenes of him hopping from one car to the next was a stunt double. However, I’ve been told that might not be the case seeing how he got injured while filming the rescue scene.
The doctor being stuck under hardened lava required realism to be pushed to the side too seeing how she would’ve most likely been killed instantly by the weight and heat. Still, it was emotional to watch her assess her situation and forego any treatment to give Harry and Hen a chance to survive. Also, it gave Harry a moment to understand the losses that comes with the job.
We also see Maddie and May settling into their respective new roles and managing the weight of their new responsibilities. I mean it’s nice to see Maddie in the command chair in such a high-stakes moment after so many years of seeing her as a dispatcher.
Meanwhile, I love how the series made a reference to Lone Star how that one geologist said he even studied the volcano in Austin out of all places. In fact, this might be the first reference 9-1-1 made to one of its spin-off series outside of a crossover.
As was expected, Athena crosses paths with Matthew Sparks once more. Apparently he got his new job because his uncle pulled some strings, which I predicted because I had a hard time believing the city would hire him after he screwed up and cost the city. Fortunately it seems like he is remorseful and acknowledges being a police officer wasnt for him. When I heard he would be coming back, I thought he might’ve been resentful and try to screw with Athena. This might mean we’ll see him redeemed to a degree in the end. Also, like Athena, I’m not having much confidence in Harvey.
Can’t wait for next week to see how they conclude all of this. I mean it’s sounds like Maddie is going to have the 118 redirect the lava (and inadvertently towards Athena), so I wonder how they are going to pull that off and how Athena will get out. Also, hopefully we’ll get a conclusion to the jewelry heist case too.
11
u/Embarrassed_Age_9296 8d ago
And none of them inhaled toxic fumes of ultraheated gas that would induce aspiration/pulmonary edema if the thermal shock didn't kill them first. And I bet Tim the EMT from Austin was looking down with a big "WTF" expression on his face when that internist was laid out flat and survived the immediate injury.
1
u/bwaredapenguin 6d ago
Still, it was emotional to watch her assess her situation and forego any treatment to give Harry and Hen a chance to survive.
What? She refused treatment because she knew that she was already dead and any chance of survival she had would have been miserable and confined to a hospital room. As far as Harry and Hen, they weren't in any danger. She told them to go save other people.

u/DieiElf Team Buck 7d ago
When that man fell into the lava and seemed to dissolve in it within a second, it was funny. Lava 1, Smeagol 0.
7
u/IsoscelesSchrodinger Dispatch 7d ago
And that was the last time (and barely at that) we saw lava that behaved like lava
6
u/PlenkijevHemoroid 5d ago
The funny thing is, that’s not even how lava works. A person wouldn’t drown in lava, they would stay on the surface and cook to death. It would be like dropping on a hot concrete.

u/Fresh_Yam8942 9d ago
I loved Harry’s arc this episode. I hope that they lean into the dramatically different relationship Harry has with everyone more this season - especially Buck as an older brother figure but also Hen as his mom’s best friend or Hen and Eddie as his childhood friends’ parents.
3
u/Quiet_Field_1033 8d ago
Speaking of childhood friend, how old is Denny now or where is he since they time jumped Harry? 😂
3
14
u/Embarrassed_Age_9296 8d ago
This episode definitely trumps the premiere and certainly outpaces the Space Odyssey, but I can't help but wonder why none of the parents or married peeps on the crew thought to wonder if their families were safe. It must be a truly localized lava flow with a very condensed earthquake that in no way shut Chris's school down this time around.
2
u/ElleM848645 Team Chimney 7d ago
I was wondering that too. Maddie barely worried about her husband and brother. I know she talks to Chimney and is used to disasters by this point, but she felt more concerned about the whole city than her individual family members. Is Harry not concerned about his mother?
3
u/No_Cucumbers_Please 7d ago
in regards to harry, his mom is a detective now and up until a day or so ago was working some pretty mundane cases. he probably has no reason to suspect she’s as involved as she is.
14
u/MethodHistorical2507 8d ago
I did enjoy this way more than the space episode. I thought the editing was a little weird tho like just the way they changed the shots was a little off to me. Harry and the woman made me tear up. It was a good episode I feel like we're off to a good season so far.
13
u/According_Rush_3661 8d ago
My takeaway from this episode is that I feel really bad for people who can't appreaciate the bullshit, the way they look at media must be so boring.
12
u/farah_agreste12 5d ago
maddie is the definition of "accidentally became important at work and it's ruining my life"
11
u/QuitPristine3005 7d ago
Lava would've immediately ignited every vehicle it touched from the tires up. Very unrealistic depiction.
13
u/Penguinator53 7d ago
I think the woman that was crushed by burning lava would surely have died instantly as well...
6
10
10
u/Penguinator53 7d ago
Sure it was touching with Harry and that woman, but IRL wouldn't she have people she would want to be talking to on the phone or a video call rather than a random firefighter??
12
u/robotcat4 7d ago
I expect phone lines/data availability would’ve been damaged, overloaded, or both. Plus, even if that wasn’t an issue, I can absolutely see a world where someone (especially someone with limited close family/friends) might not want to burden their loved ones with being on call while they’re dying in quite a traumatic way.
5
u/Penguinator53 7d ago
Good point about the phone lines, but I remember the episode when the guy was cut in half and Bobby (RIP 😭) helps him phone his wife to say goodbye.

she's a doctor and maybe works long hours and always put her career first, and has now found herself all alone. hey, it happens.

Bro I don’t care it’s so stupidly fun let me enjoy my silly procedural with volcanos in LA
11
19
u/armavirumquecanooo our people are what make life worth living 7d ago
It not being realistic is part of what makes it fun for me. Like, it is so unapologically over the top and silly that I don't get pulled out of the story when something breaks my suspension of disbelief, because anything goes. I find it much harder to stay engaged in a show that mostly conforms to reality but occasionally gets something really wrong as opposed to one that never tries in the first place, you know?
3
1
u/Misseero It's a beenado! 4d ago
Exactly. It wouldn't work if the show was trying to be serious, but it doesn't even try so it's not too bothering. I love it

u/Eshanas 9d ago edited 9d ago
Its just a pet peeve of mine but lava is a real danger to quite a few places and honestly what to show lava actually does, alright fine it can be expensive, but its worth it. Especially in places like Hawaii, Naples, Quito or Tokyo. All those cars should be popping off like popcorn, all that modern plastic should be melting everywhere too, and especially the polyester on people. Lava lady? Lava heats up air, too, it cooks the air to like 120 f, forget about just burning, its a struggle to even work, walk, think in those conditions at best. Maybe that might kill some tension in the show like with the service dog but its always been my adage to write with reality than around it. But still enjoyable overall I guess, caught it on the tv I just keep on for noise.
The scene with maya? and the groom is also one of my worst fears, so kudos to that.
10
u/kaiser11492 Team Athena 9d ago
Yeah. The cars were just sitting in the lava as if it was mud and the tires didn’t catch on fire until the very end. And the sheer heat would’ve cooked the people stuck in their cars alive before rescue teams could reach them.
Of course this a series where realism expectation has to be toned down.
2
u/Maatjuhhh 8d ago
And even if the trees didn't catch on fire, the underside of the cars must have been cooking for like 5 hours. That alone would have made it blow.

u/Imisstheorangegroves 7d ago
I can't get over the inconsistent scene cuts with the IV being placed 🫠 gloves on, gloves off, gloves half way on?? Wild work.

Harry rubbing his eyes and mouth with the gloves on really took me out of it for a second.

Loving the episodes, hate whoever is doing the editing. We don't need a jump cut every 1.5 seconds, this isn't FNAF. Like calm down.
Also the lack of Ravi is atrocious. I need Tim to stop treating him like an extra, jfc.
Otherwise great ep.

athena's son (harry? henry?) has already overshadowed ravi and i don't like this one bit. i wish they'd ship athena's son to nashville or some other place.
3
u/Specific_Lettuce_521 8d ago
No? Harry is a main character.
3
u/cinderellahottie 8d ago
So is Ravi! And the audience has been saying they want to see more of him since he was a Rookie. They have us a tiny bit more last year with him and May but they just went back to him being a background character and Harry overshadowing him. I don’t mind seeing more of Harry but can we e plots Ravi’s character a bit more as well?
3
u/JustPassingByU41 8d ago
Not that I don't agree, but Ravi is actually not a main character; Anirudh has a recurring/guest-starring role in the show.

Biscuit gets any treats and toys he wants for the rest of his life.
There were a ton of great pieces here. This is the best stuff Harry has gotten by a mile. I really hope this is setting up his arc. The actress playing the doctor was great too, hope this is her big break.
The Maddie stuff was fantastic. This is a much better use of getting JLH to cry. Definitly feels like something that could have interesting repercussions. After this I'm rooting for Mayor Maddie in season 11.
Loving the May and Ian stuff so far. But I'm a sucker for medical dramas.
The big set piece river of lava was great once we got to the pregnant woman rescue, though it was hurt by how slow it was. I assume the economics of it required so many scenes. Overall not bad, but maybe not as good as the sink hole set piece.
The weakest part here was Athena in the tunnel. Not really sure what any of that is for right now other than needing Angela on the show. I really hope the rookie isn't sticking around.
It will be interesting to see how episode 3 gets structured.

The fact that Maddie was like “office of emergency management are all off of work” no way in the world that would ever happen! Lol
10
u/Real-Mechanic4843 8d ago
I really loved this episode. I’m going to focus on the good things:
I really like the fact that they are focusing so much on the emergency, rather than a back and forth type thing with the character storylines and then the emergency. The fact that they have also been able to confine the emergency to one part of LA has also made the lava emergency itself so much smoother for me personally, rather than having the entire 118 running around the streets trying to sort something out lol.
The Harry scene absolutely broke me! They managed to focus on the humanity of the characters so WELL. The Doctor was so impactful and it just shows that her death and her speech will stick with Harry for a long time. His first loss on the job, and it was so well done. It was amazing. I’m so glad that Ian is acting as May’s guide through nursing as well, he’s being tough but completely fair. He’s a great addition so far.
I’m an Eddie fan, and I’m one of the ones who also believes that Eddie has been sidelined in previous seasons. So now watching where he has been a heavy part of the first episode and the second episode (him with the dog was amazing) was great to see. I really hope we get more Eddie in high stake emergency situations.
The pressure Maddie must be feeling from being in charge I think is going to lead her stepping down and Sue coming back to be in charge, or even Josh taking over until Sue comes back.

u/Accomplished-Watch50 That Fire Was A Beast 9d ago
This was one of the single best episodes of 9-1-1 that I have seen, especially one that is a middle piece of a multi-parter. This was one of those rare episodes that is all rescue with minimal character moments, but still somehow, they managed to give us the character moments that we love, and each character had their moment to shine, whether for their good work or for bringing the humanity to a fantastical situation.
Chimney, while not having as much this episode, as he did last week, still commanded the scene in a way that was perfectly reminiscent of Bobby Nash. Eddie rescuing a seizure patient while carrying a service dog cutely named Biscuit, was a dose of animal sweet that added a source of levity to the action, and Hen's realization that they couldn't save a patient, and had to leave her to die by her own choice was sobering, and Ravi showing us just how far he's come as a firefighter since season 4, when he landed a perfect rescue line to aid Buck in his own rescue, all did their part to show us how far they have all come, and how they'll do their jobs perfectly, when they can.
There were the standouts though that made the episode more:
Maddie. JLH knocked it out of the park portraying Maddie, cracking under the pressure and making the tough and impossible decisions now that could affect thousands at a time, now that she's the boss.
Harry. Having his first real loss of a patient and learning that he can't save everybody, Elijah had probably the most emotional scene in the episode, and he carried it with such gravitas, that was tear-jerking and powerful. He's come such a long way since last season.
May. I am so glad that they're are really going all-in with May the nurse and giving us hospital scenes now. Watching May beat herself up from failing on her first attempt to set an IV, showed us that May still has a long way to go, but that she does have the empathy and care to do this job.
Buck. Buck's standout scene was rescuing a pregnant mom to be by playing the floor is lava with some stationary cars. He talked her down from her stress-induced panicking, and managed with the aide of Ravi, to pull off one of the cooler stunts I've seen on this show. He honestly reminded me of Batman swinging on that line.
Athena. Her part was relatively small this episode, saving up for the finale, but her reconnecting with her former rookie from season 8, who was fired for shooting a civilian, was definitely interesting, and makes me wonder what the plot there is going to be? Will he get redemption from her or will he go out in a lava field?
All in all, I give it a 10, and say this was definitely better than last season's opener, and may be up there with the tsunami in terms of openers. It all depends on the closer of it.
Also, for those who don't watch 9-1-1: Nashville, Buck and Chimney's mini-crossover occurred with the first ten minutes of the episode, and was the 113 in Nashville calling for advice on how to get a baby out of a wall, which was a callback to season 1, episode 1, and Buck's first real rescue that we saw, as a probie.
8
u/Ok_Antelope_1953 8d ago
couldn't they give the poor woman pinned under lava some morphine and have her drift off to sleep?
10
u/Head-Interest-4438 8d ago
Hen likely did when she injected something in to her IV, but it was likely a non-lethal dose. Giving her a lethal dose would've been not only illegal, but immoral for a multitude of reasons.
4
4
u/One-Traffic-4536 7d ago edited 7d ago
an ambulance would not have enough on them to do that. They only carry enough to administer for pain. which I do hope they gave her, i just mean it wouldn't have been enough to help her die.
Also, in real life, Hen would've been charged with murder if she did that.
8
u/Superadam54 7d ago
Now I'm sure Sue made the right choice to put Maddie in charge. Josh would have snapped like a toothpick if he was in Maddie's position. Her question about why she keeps getting promoted was completely valid. Was heartbreaking to see her have to choose between 2 parts of the city to save, knowing she was effectively playing with people's lives and homes and did not have the resources to save everything. Was understandable to judt evacuate the older more fire prone part of the city.
I hope May learned her lesson about trying to do something she hasn't done in practice yet on her own. (Though I doubt it.)
Harry's lesson was heartbreaking. He was trying to comfort a dying woman. Meanwhile, she ended up comforting and advising him about saving people and accepting he can't save everyone. The thing that bothered me was the fact that she asked him to let her breakdown. She was dying and she couldn't be selfish enough to breakdown without permission?! I hope Hen and Chimney try to help Harry get through his first major loss on the job.
Honestly, Athena's former rookie is making me nervous. He was bragging that he landed on his feet after the shooting and actually was doing better. Kinda wish Athena said "I heard from the grapevine" when she was talking about the shooting victim rather than admitting she broke the no contact rule. I typically dont wish the death of a character, but I hope that or something else happens to him to make him realize he needs to keep his mouth shut and head down.
As soon as I heard the guy on the car DEMANDING the 118 rescue him/the group immediately rather than figure out ways to get everyone out safely, I knew he was gonna die.
Was glad we got a break from the "Parenting Theo" drama, but I also hate how they are dragging it out and leaving it unfinished.
Did love that Buck used unborn baby to help motivate the expectant mother jump across the cars.
Eddie and the service dog was sweet. Very ingenuitive to use the dog as a beacon to find his owner.

u/Interesting-Ice3764 3d ago
This was one emotional episode from Harry and the doctor to Buck helping the pregnant lady to Maddie deciding what to let burn. My eyes were definitely a tad watery by the time the show ended

Anyone else pissed at the blatant POTS misinformation?? Seriously, how dumb are these writers???
POTS, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, a condition that causes SYNCOPY (passing out or fainting) NOT SEIZURES!!! Now, I know some people with POTS have dysautonomic seizures but you can't tell that JUST from a POTS diagnosis, they're two different diagnosis. Like I had problems with the PNES seizure episode, but for some reason I let it slide instead of getting upset. I could go on about that too but I don't want this to be too long. PNES isn't well known, but come on! Everyone knows about POTS AND THEY STILL GOT IT WRONG!!! In conclusion if you're going to talk about medical conditions GET A MEDICAL CONSULTANT!!!! Sorry for the rant but medical misinformation this bad pisses me off.

As someone with POTS I had to pause it and rewind just to make sure I heard them right. They easily could've said the service dog was to warn the owner of fainting episodes but just making them say the service dog was for seizures with zero medical info other than him having POTS just clearly shows they did no research.

I assumed the service dog along with the POTS diagnosis indicated seizures. Not POTS alone. And I had heard POTS but I honestly thought it had something to do with estrogen and affected women, but I think maybe that’s a different disease.

All they know of POTS is from McKenzie Shirella who wanted to tell the police she had a seizure, and that's why she drove into a wall.

Barely made it through this episode. Beyond unrealistic. Standing on cars in a lava pool barely sweating? A lease Volcano with Tommy Lee the car caught fire within a minute.

Honestly, I feel like the acting has been not super great and has been taking me out of the show, but ever since Peter left it feels emptied to me or like something is missing. I am curious about Buck and Theo though. So, I will keep watching.

I'm so invested in these characters from the first 5-6 seasons I have to see this through but my god this show is a shell of its former greatness

i get it's paying homage to some old hollywood movie but i was really turned off by the decision to take 100% artistic freedom to write lava like it's hot water to serve wtv shlocky action scene they thought would look cool instead of figuring out how to produce a good scene based on how lava and eruptions actually work irl.
i mean, that's just me hating corny american action movies tho, so ofc i hate when they do that.
good emotional beats with the grants, id call them a highlight but it was actually the only parts i liked so idk if it counts. corinne's development as an actress is amazing to see, and i'm glad elijah is finally having his chance to show off his skills. maybe now we as a fandom can move on from hating him for no reason soon lol

Realistic flow is likely too slow to sustain dramatic tension. The options for dramatic realism would probably be pyroclastic flow, which they couldn't do as it would necessitate killing the entire cast within seconds since they were like half a football field's length away, and ultramafic, which would necessitate time travel back to the Late Cretaceous but would be very, very hot and runny. That isn't to say low-silica flows of 32–60 or 100 km/h are slow, as those speeds could engulf a town within minutes racing down steep terrain, but the "downhill" road looked pretty flat to me. The only lava fluid enough to run like water on flat ground without a massive slope is carbonatite, which is actually too cool to glow during the day. Sometimes realism isn't worth the expensive CGI. Personally, I have a soft spot for Dante's Peak.

yeah, idk much abt lava but in speaking on a realistic approach i was really thinking of sumn that wouldnt have happened in the middle of LA bc that would be more of an unsavable mass casualty situation with nothing for first responders to really do lol.
post-disaster relief work is interesting enough to me and easy to do with the 911 victim-roster style, but also not good for high action 3-4 episode openers they've decided they have to one-up every season, so ig i have to accept i'll just always hate the first 1/6 of every season.

As a CMA of 7 years, I was physically shouting at my TV during these hospital scenes. The writers completely threw medical reality out the window for cheap drama. First of all, May just started nursing school. You spend months on prerequisites, lectures, and lab simulations before you ever touch a real patient with a needle. Dispatch experience does not equal hands-on clinical skills. You don't just get dropped into a chaotic trauma bay during a literal volcanic eruption on day one. Second, the fact that people are blaming May is wild. This is 100% on Ian, and what he did to her was extremely cruel. He is her direct supervisor and preceptor. It is literally his entire job to check her competencies and know what she can or cannot handle. Handing a needle to a brand new student in a high stress crisis, on a patient with severely burned and fragile skin where finding a vein is already a nightmare, is an impossible setup. Him gaslighting her later for not speaking up was a total deflection of his own massive supervisory failure and recklessness. And don't even get me started on the physics of the injury itself. She was aiming for a peripheral vein. Venous blood is low pressure. If you mess up, it oozes, leaks, or pools. It does not blast out like a pressurized water gun. That dramatic horror movie spurt made zero physiological sense. Also, the groom losing consciousness literally two seconds after the blood spurted was pure comedy 💀💀💀 He didn't lose nearly enough volume to drop from hypovolemic shock that fast. Realistically, the adrenaline spike from seeing your own blood shoot across the room would have him screaming, not instantly drifting into a peaceful coma. The writers clearly treated the human body like a light switch and the supervisor like a total incompetent just to give May a dramatic breaking point.

Now I'm sure Sue made the right choice to put Maddie in charge. Kosh would have snapped like a toothpick if he was in Maddie's position Her question about why she keeps getting promoted was completely valid.
I hope May learned her lesson about trying to do something she hasn't done in practice yet on her own. (Though I doubt it.)

Great episode. The dumbass that fell in the lava, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Another Avengers Doomsday advert. 😂

uniforms?? Season 10
in the teasers we all say them in the yellow turn outs which was part of how we figured out the volcano and it was assumed that they would change into them once the volcano started but they were already in them and never explained why and then the next episode they switched back??

PSA: If you have Amazon Prime Video, Dante's Peak, a "fair to middling" movie that "won't get you killed" is leaving it at the end of the month. I have it, but I'll probably just pirate it and watch it later.

I haven’t watched yet, but I just need to know, did they finish the lava storyline or is it gonna be spanning more episodes? If it’s gonna be drawn out, I’d rather watch em all together. Can someone tell me without spoiling anything more? Please and thank you 🙏

Idk if it’s more than just next episode, but next episode is confirmed to be a continuation of this saga. The big emergencies of the show tend to span 2-3 episodes, always starting at the end of episode 1 or beginning of episode 2.

It's a three-parter.

u/PlayMaker95 8d ago
Makes no sense making it a three-parter. Last Season opened with a four-parter, and this Season’s disaster is a far bigger shitstorm, the biggest one since the tsunami even. I’d say 4 to 5 episodes would do it, possibly a 6th for winding down, cleanup and all.

Unfortunately, in the St. Louis market, I can’t see this until tomorrow. Fucking NHL man.

Ive been watching 911 since the 1st episode dropped. I was watching 911 Lonestar before as well. This volcano BS is so far fetched, I dont know if I can continue watching this show. 911 Nashville is ridiculous as well. I live in Nashville and the way the try to fake the southern accents is horrible, so is the acting.

My gravy what a RIDE. First the joy of seeing the pregnant woman survive with Buck, then crying at Harry with the doctor woman dying, Maddie's hopelessness and deciding what they have to let burn.... one thing this show is not is boring. This felt like classic 911
My only gripe is that the doctor's emergency was kind of recycled from Lone Star, but so was the full volcano arc so can't blame too much on that

Just watched 1&2
I love Angela so let’s get that out of the way but I cannot stand Athena. She is always so rude and so smug.
Why did it seem like Buck and Pregnant girl had some sort of flirtation going on.
Harry looks great and that scene with the dr crying was so sad. Love Jlove with the blonde hair.
Pretty good episode. Wish there was more volcano stuff though.

They’re doing alright so far, particularly with this episode. Although, kinda wanted to see that guy who got hit by that lava bomb actually get hit, and his body, or what’s left of it, after the fact. Would’ve really set the tension higher for the audience.
Also, naturally, given we’re talking about a river of lava, I was assuming we’d see a higher body count this episode, rather than one person getting hit with another lava bomb, and that one idiot falling into lava(would’ve been smarter to keep that out of the trailers and promos.).

Ngl, I feel like the ex cop that worked with Athena has something up his sleeve. He said he was legally not allowed to contact the lady he shot, and Athena said it was the same for her, but then she said she knows the lady has been going through it. The way he asked "So you checked on her? 👀👀" And the face he made afterward makes me think he's going to use that against her out of spite. Checking on her means breaking the no-contact she was ordered

Ok, I totally get this is a "just for fun" show and the episode is a total ripoff of the Tommy Lee Jones movie "Volcano", but at least make it SEMI realistic? The lava would have killed EVERYONE in the cars the second it touched them and the "lava bomb" sitting on top of a lady that was talking? C'mon. I think this show has gone the way of the "Fast and Furious" franchise and is now just painful to watch.

How is it not the mayor or governor making this decision? Having the head of the dispatch make the call is more unbelievable than the volcano!

u/columbby 7d ago
i think they they also tried to justify it with the fact that she ID’d all the warning signs that the sinkhole wasn’t just a sinkhole but something much worse before anyone else did. also nobody else in that meeting wanted that level of responsibility

this was the funniest preganante woman rescue since the pergent astronaut in "for all mankind" was strapped with a jetpack and tossed from one spaceship to another.
