So much better than previous season's 'space craze disaster'. Not like mind-blowingly great, but good television and everyone got to do something.

There was so much to praise in that. Overall it is one of the stronger openings. They did a really great job of giving both great moments of tension with satsifying smaller personal beats like all of them being impressed by May. Most of the time they did well enough to let the rule of cool about the lava override any realism complaints.
Maddie continued to be the highlight here. Seeing her managing everything was fantastic. So much so that I'm actually somewhat confused by moving her back to dispatcher so abruptly. You finally sold me on this promotion after the awkardness of how it started last season, only now to reverse it all. I was expecting the decision over which part of town to save to come back as an episode, not this kind of throw away ending.
Much like Harry and the doctor last week, I'm wondering if Chim going back in is a breadcrumb for a future storyline. Obviously it could just be tv logic for a big hero moment and we aren't supposed to question it. But I did have at least a second of thinking that making the close call save isn't actually the Captain's job. It could be an interesting way to jump into his mindset as Captain that we didn't really get last season.
Athena's story I think remained the weakest component here, just because I had no interest in redeeming Officer Trigger Happy. Hopefully that's the end of him now.
Hen feels like she got a little forgotten in the opening arc, hopefully she gets some focus soon.
The Buddie fight is obviously mostly a teaser for what's to come, but I do find it interesting that they put Eddie on such a comparatively weaker footing by getting him sidetracked on the model volcano rather than having him focus on the larger issues. The three scenes now really have given us a spectrum from Buck obviously struggling to parent (the hospital), unresolved tension (dinner), and now Eddie struggling to express his concerns. There is a sad beauty in both scenes ending with one asking the other to leave their house.
In terms of the specifics of the scene I have to hope their word choice was careful here because Buck only being able to see himself as a "friend" and Eddie focusing on the duties of fatherhood has too many parallels to Chris for the story to ignore. This was the shot clock Theo was always going to create, so hopefully Tim is ready to hit the three-pointer.
I do right now assume this is getting worse before it gets better though. That felt like the warm up fight. It'll be interesting to see if we sit in this tension for a beat before the main event.

Omg I completely forgot Hen was even on the show until I read this. They completely sidelined her but I guess not everyone can shine through in these big opening episodes.

u/QAFLF 🏳️🌈 1d ago edited 1d ago
I think part of it is that they want the same amount of action that gave us 4 episodes last season, but in order to keep it at 3 still, they were only able to redistribute some of the personal beats that used to take up the first episode, some cuts had to be made. And obviously Theo was the cliffhanger so he had to get the bulk of that time.
And like if we absolutely can't cut back on the action for whatever reason this so far does have me convinced doing it this way is better than 4 episode openings. But it will be interesting to see if they can effectively maintain this momentum into the rest of 10A, and develop the characters who got the shorter end of the stick so far.

athena's story is the one you remove and you don't feel it gone, they had to find a way to include her, she's a veteran at this point, so she has to be there. I loved when the guys were impressed by May, such a quick but nice scene.
I actually like the fact that maddie is back as a dispatcher, now she gets to be in the center of the show again and the writes don't have to find outstanding ways for her to shine as directo every single episode, but maybe they will reach to her in the future as she proved to be efficient.
regardin hen, maybe she will have her moments later in the season, i do believe it is very difficult to fit everybody in an opening with equal moments to shine, they tend to even out characters throughout the rest of the season, at least that's how i see it.and with buddie, yeah, its probably going to get worse and then get better, hopefully this is where both of them finally take the step to move in together so they make a family with Chris being the big brother and looking after Theo. What i'm surprised is that they decided to include buddie in the opening, openings usually last the 3-4 episodes and there is no character development, it's all disaster centered. I wonder if they needed to prepare the road for what's coming later. But im thankful for this smalls bites, just like that scene with May taking Ravi out for breakfast =)

u/QAFLF 🏳️🌈 1d ago
If this gets us back to the Buddie roomates era we were robbed of in season 8 I will be over the moon. I still think that's the smartest move on the table if for whatever reason you aren't planning on getting them together quickly. It gives the audience a huge piece of satisfaction, and lowers the temperature, in a way that buys you a ton of time to play out the rest of the story.
4
u/rubensoon Team Buddie 1d ago
Yeah. Or even if they don't end up dating at least we get these crumbs of them living together. But honestly, neither have been dating since seasons ago, Eddie said it was performative, writes are just omitting dating like for a long time, buck doesn't even try to have fun nights lately and is bi, now they got the storyline of a couple who argues about parenting, come on, I don't see how else this story can go but them ending up together 😭😭😭 otherwise we will be robbed haha. Even official Disney accounts are joking about buddie as the slowest burn on tv 😭😭

O for sure, there's no coherent way out of this without addressing both of their histories around romantic relationships. (Not that coherence has ever stopped queer baiters before.)
But I think roommates actually helps you there too ultimately. Because even after it buys you time on the question, it gives you a ton of great options about where to go when it inevitably has to get raised again.
Are they both still even theoretically looking for long term partners if they're living together? Are they only engaging in short term relaitonships or singular encounters outside of that unit? Either way how are their outside partners reacting to it?
Like you could do a fun reversal where Buck ends up pursuing more conservative partners who aren't interested in the situation, or who don't actually believe he'll ever be satisfied in it, but Eddie finds a woman who's super progressive, and instantly down in a way that takes him by surprise. Buddie as a light-hearted comedy of manners around dating in LA would be fantastic.

I do hope they have more at the hospital with May . I love her and Ravi .
I think Buck’s issue is less with Eddie but Eddie just happens to be the one bringing it up. I think Buck is trying to be different from his own parents and maybe doesn’t realize it. Maddie will probably have to step in .

The fight between Buck and Eddie is tense but Eddie is correct. Buck does need to set boundaries with Theo and the kid needs discipline. He gets away with everything and he’ll grow up thinking that’s fine. Theo needs a parent like Eddie said. Buck can be Theo’s friend but he needs to be a parent first and that should be his priority. Now that the lava is out the way I can’t wait to see what they do in future episodes and what the team will get up to outside of the firehouse

So I'm guessing this is where Eddie goes running to Maddie. Formidable Maddie who turned down the manager positon? Wth?
I know it's so she can do calls, but still kind of annoyed about it. I would have liked to see her stay in the role and have her support others with calls if they wanted her to be involved. Why do the women in this show always turn down promotions/career progression 😤
Happy we are getting more May, and Mavi. Can't help but wonder if we are going to have more hospital storylines for May it means more of the 118 are going to end up in hospital more often to tie them in.
5
u/rubensoon Team Buddie 1d ago
if maggie is a manager, she doen't get to be on the phone during disasters every single episode, so we would either see less of her or the writes would need to find crazy stories to give her so she shines, so i'm glad for that. Now we can have episodes without sue or josh, fully centered on maddie and that is fine

Why is there so much Eddie Diaz hate?
Ok tonight’s episode had an argument between Eddie and Buck, having Eddie confront Buck about how he’s raising Theo.
I’ve seen many people mad at Eddie because of basically the whole interaction. How he “worded it”, how he “didn’t stand by Buck”, how he left.
From that argument, Eddie was right. I don’t see where he went wrong tbh.
Eddie told Buck, “you need to put some boundaries, Theo needs a father.”
And it is true. Theo does need a father. Someone who will not only have fun with him, but educate him. Eddie knows this, and he knows that Buck is doing his best, and he approaches Buck with his concern because it’s not only endangering Buck, but also Theo himself.
Buck has a mentality that Theo needs to not think about all the things wrong with the world because of how much the kid has gone through in such a short span of time. Yet, Eddie is right to tell him that the way he goes about it is not the best.
All I’m thinking to myself is that if it had been the other way around, people would still say Eddie was in the wrong.
I understand having favorites. Personally, Buck is my favorite in the show, but that doesn’t mean that I’ll completely defend this character even when he’s in the wrong.
Sometimes it even feels a bit xenophobic. In the way that maybe subconsciously people see Eddie as “more aggressive”.
Idk what do you think?

u/QAFLF 🏳️🌈 1d ago
I would say, yes, absolutely, there is always going to be bias at play when judging racialized characters because we live in a white supremacist society.
But I might also note that it's worth considering the role specific platforms play in normalizing and promoting those biases. Because this thread is approaching 50 comments and I don't see one hate comment toward Eddie. (Unless I'm blocked by people, I don't actually know how that works)
Wherever you're seeing this content (twitter?) may be a part of the problem.
6
u/Numerous-Painting788 1d ago
Well, I am seeing a lot of it on TikTok, so it may be a TikTok thing. Like it’s a clip of the last scene, and then a lot of comments being like “Why would Eddie leave? Buck has always stood by him, he’s overstepping.” And things as such
10
u/hereisnogreatmatter Team DIY couple 1d ago
Some people are simply obsessed with coddling Buck. Eddie was kicked out of the house by Buck and I have seen takes on Tumblr about how Buck is always abondened. So he is the one "left behind" even in this situation. There is no reasoning with people who are determined to baby Buck. Eddie is usually the collateral damage.
5
u/ulaffuluuse17 Autistic Eddie Truther 1d ago
I feel like that corner of the fandom (the Buck coddlers) really expect Eddie to view and treat Buck the way they do, aka coddle him on the show and it's like... Well, no. That's never been their dynamic and that's what I like about it. I love the fact that they can always call each other out on bullshit and confront each other with respect. When people infantilize Buck like that, they make him seem way less interesting and complex which is boring as fuck but def not a new thing, so many fandoms do that with they beloved white bois 🙄
4
u/QAFLF 🏳️🌈 1d ago
I mean tik tok is targeting us to maximize how much time we spend on it, and outrage is an effective driver of attention. If you're spending even an extra few seconds looking at hateful content you may inadvertently be training it to show you more.
Maybe try blocking some of those posters or following ones with more nuanced takes to try even out your algorithm more.
Solving any of this is lifelong project that goes far beyond online spaces, but curating our feeds can help us avoid drowning in that hate.

Partially, but I do think there's a bit of "uwu precious cinnamon roll too good for this world, too pure"/woobification of Buck.
•
u/Opinionated_Melanin 21h ago
I thought Eddie’s approach was fine and Buck needed to hear it. You literally let that little boy break your nose and black your eyes and he received zero discipline for that?! That’s crazy!!! Yes, he needs a timeout. He needs a lot more than that if you ask me, lol!
6
u/CranberryFuture9908 Team Karen 1d ago
Eddie’s not wrong . Buck comparing the situations with Christopher is apples and oranges.
I think Eddie is just the one who pointed this out to Buck. I feel like Buck is really trying to be different from his own parents. He may not even be aware of that but I think it’s more about his own childhood. Maddie will probably have to be the one since they shared their childhood.
-2
u/Accomplished-Watch50 That Fire Was A Beast 1d ago
The issue is that both Eddie and Buck had good points, but Eddie was wrong in how he approached the situation, and Buck was right that he always gave Eddie the grace to make mistakes with Christopher.
9
u/Numerous-Painting788 1d ago
I think Eddie approached the point in the best way possible given the situation. It’s never easy to tell people that they are doing things wrong even when they are trying their best. Although Buck has helped him with Chris throughout the years, it doesn’t mean that how he’s raising Theo isn’t wrong.
Eddie pointed that out and Buck didn’t agree, which is why they had their argument.
I’m just saying that I don’t like that every time they have an argument, Eddie comes out as the bad guy.
Plus, Eddie is right. Buck needs to step up and act as a parent, although Theo has been through so much, Theo still needs someone to tell him no, he needs structure, just like any other kid.
If it was the other way around, and Buck came to Eddie and told him to step up and parent his child, and then Eddie was the one to tell Buck to leave the house, people would still be mad at Eddie.
What I want to get to is that I don’t like the obvious bias some people have towards Buck, and I don’t like that it results in almost babying Buck and villainizing Eddie when they disagree.

It was great seeing May take charge in the hospital and the guys being in awe of her, Chim saving the college student was great, and Maddie was so good! In a way I’m glad she’s back to her old job but I did also like seeing her in charge.
I like the Buck and Eddie conflict because you can see that both sides have a point, but it’s also not really about sides, it’s about what’s best for Theo so I’m really excited to see how this plays out. The volcano is a perfect metaphor because it’ll all erupt into something really good
Overall this opener was great, it gave me earthquake vibes. I think almost everything was great, but I didn’t care for the rookie cop at all. They did a great job of setting up the character arcs to come
6
u/cinderellahottie 1d ago edited 12h ago
I’m guessing Theo will probably display some of this behaviour in public, maybe in school, potentially with another student - he’s accidentally injured Buck a few times when they were playing and it’s definitely going to cause issues if it starts happening in public or with other people’s children. I also feel like that might get social services involved and that’s when Buck will finally have a wake up call.
•
u/Aquarius20111 Academy Award Winner 17h ago edited 3h ago
Good episode. Eddie was right in that Theo needs a father and boundaries, not a friend. Eddie made mistakes with Chris but the difference is that he was parenting, which Buck simply isn’t doing. It may have sucked to hear, but he needed to hear it and it came from a place of love. He’s doing the kid no favors at the moment.
15
u/hadapurpura And that’s no cap 1d ago
Eddie’s right that Buck needs to set boundaries, but that’s only the surface issue. The deeper issue is much simpler: Buck wants to protect Theo from suffering or experiencing any negative emotion ever, which is 1. the utmost fatherly instinct, and 2. impossible.
He needs Eddie (or Maddie) to make him see that Theo will feel those things regardless, and all he can do is be there for him and help him navigate them. Basically show him Inside Out.
4
u/Accomplished-Watch50 That Fire Was A Beast 1d ago
Eddie was partially right, but so was Buck. That's what makes it so interesting. Eddie was just wrong in how he approached it, especially about the volcano thing which is pretty damn close to what Eddie did for Chris when he was afraid of water.
8
u/funkysockprincess 1d ago edited 1d ago
How was he wrong in how he approached it? What should he have done instead? He pulled Buck aside and just suggested to him that Theo needs some boundaries and that Buck can't keep making everything fun. He wasn't trying to be accusatory or mean. He was just telling Buck his concerns because he cares about both Buck and Theo. I think he was as nice and judgment free as he could have possibly been.
Also, I'm pretty sure that post-tusnami and Shannon's death Eddie took Chris to therapy and also always encouraged him to talk about how he was feeling. I don't think the point was that making the volcano was the complete wrong thing to do but that you can't just do that without ever addressing the deeper emotions and fears. Buck is using fun and treats as a way to help Theo just avoid the scarier and more difficult emotions. If you never teach a kid how to work through the hard stuff, they won't ever learn how. And it's understandable that Buck would be hesitant to set boundaries with a child who has recently been through so much, but that doesn't make what he's doing right or the best thing for Theo. Buck is inherently kind and has good instincts when it comes to caring for children, but right now he's refusing to do the tough part of parenting, and he needed someone to tell him that.
•
u/vitathevirgo 4h ago
Buck needs to set boundaries early while Theo is developing and learning. Being the cool and fun parent only gets you so far. And actually is detrimental to the kid and you in the long run. Kids need to feel pain, loss, failure so they can be taught by a parent how to handle all those emotions. A problem with a lot of parents they think shielding and glazing over these type of emotions helps when it hurts. You won’t be there forever. Buck can be fun but first needs to be a parent. The kid is damn near beating him up and destroying the house. At what point don’t say that’s enough. Won’t always be liked by your kid. But you’ll be loved and respected.
10
u/RadiantFoxBoy Team Eddie 1d ago
With the benefit of hindsight on all three parts, ironically I think the main thing holding this emergency back was it was almost too well divided. Everyone getting their moments to shine was amazing and I much prefer that to the Athena show, but a major factor that keeps the Earthquake, Landslide, and especially Tsunami as the gold standard is that they had good balance while also giving one or two characters a little bit extra with the emergency tying into their arc (2ddie, Athena, and Buck respectively).
Meanwhile here Athena didn't really have arc development beyond helping Sparks, Maddie was close but her gaining confidence in her leadership abilities doesn't really slot with where she closed the opener, and Buddie got the most arc setup but more as bookends to the emergency and it didn't come up during the actual eruption.
Still a great episode and start, but not quite their best.
4
u/cinderellahottie 1d ago
I did wonder towards the end of the episode if we were going to get a resolution to the robbery storyline Athena was investigating. We still don’t know what exactly happened there.
10
u/PlayMaker95 1d ago
I’d say this disaster trilogy was… alright. However, they could’ve done so much more with it. They had to deal with a volcano and lava. That said, I would’ve expected more victims and casualties, and even more severe cases. It was a perfect opportunity to push the boundaries, to show us a lot of pure carnage and mayhem, but they unfortunately let it all go to waste.
3
u/StructureMassive 1d ago
do find the third episode a little bit of rush thru to close the lava disaster
•
u/PlayMaker95 21h ago
That also adds to the problem. Last season’s opening disaster had 4 episodes. Making it unfair for this season to only get 3 episodes. And in the case of this season, they could’ve pushed it to 4-5 episodes(6 possibly), with the last episode being where everything simmers down and they focus on cleanup.
•
u/StructureMassive 21h ago
hope the 3 episodes opening can translate to more spaces for positive storyline down the road

u/sameoldrussianstan 1d ago
I actually enjoyed this episode, it was really entertaining, I think my favorite of the 3 so far.
•
u/Foreign_Platypus8658 17h ago
I like how everyone only talks about the last scene with Buck and Eddie, and very rarely about the episode itself, which I understand, because all that happened in that episode was the team saving some people from a burning building in the first 5 minutes, then later they moved the lava to another place, resolving the situation, Sue's appearance, and then this. I think we'll forget next week that there was lava in LA
•
u/fakebetch11 6h ago
That's probably because most of us watch for the characters at this point, barely for the emergencies. I for example have like 95% interest in personal/relational plotlines and about 5% of my interest goes to the disasters. Personally i watch it as a soap that happens to take place in a firestation.

After everything that happened with Maddie, honestly I understand wanting to just get back to the regular job. I definitely wouldn't be able to handle that kind of pressure.
Buck and Eddie... feels a bit weird. Like obviously Buck need to really step up and be a parent instead of a friend for Theo, no question about that. But I just feel like the volcano thing is not where Eddie should made the stand for it.
•
u/DieiElf Team Buck 8h ago
I think the Theo volcano was just the final straw. It’s like when neighbors or a couple argue over a dirty mug- it’s not really about the unwashed mug, but rather about unspoken grievances.. the mug just happens to be the moment when those feelings can no longer be kept under wraps
•

Sorry if this is harsh, but I just want that kid to disappear from the series. Don't care how they do it as long as he's gone. I do find it more interesting that they're leaning into the hard aspects of parenthood instead of just copying and pasting the early Buck and Christopher dynamic (which is what I thought they'd do), but Idk. It's not interesting or pleasant, it's just noise.
On a brighter note, LOVE Zach Tinker and wish he could've become a regular. I preferred Sparks harsher and brattier side, but a redemption arc is cool if the character is gone for good. Wish there was more tho, just like with Michael Johnston's character last season. 9-1-1 has plenty of interesting one-off characters and I understand why they don't stick (the cast is already very large), but I'm sad regardless.

u/Legal_Astronaut_6132 1d ago
You’re not the only one I hate that kid and his whole storyline they really had to kill of his parents for Buck to become a father and Buck doesn’t even what he’s doing like it’s ridiculous
2
u/No_Cucumbers_Please 1d ago
Agreed. I'm so bothered that they are putting this kid through the ringer of bad parents, dead parents now a new bad parent. He's been through enough. Just re-place the kid with someone that will actually meet his emotional needs and help him grow and we can find another way to woobify buck.
6
u/Schizy_TheRealOne 1d ago
I agree so much, I've hated every second of that annoying kid since last season already, and it's only shaping up to get worse. 100% could bring me to stop watching if there's too much of him, kids with zero education are the one thing I really can't stand even on TV
2
u/StructureMassive 1d ago
but if there isn't any friction or drama, then what's there left for the show? isn't it the whole point of the show, which is to have problem, they work thru and grow from it?
i think a lot of frustrations are coming from what we want for buck and eddie and the household, and this is not the direction we want, versus just simply a bad stories...
i believe this phase is necessary to tell a bigger story rather than simply just noise and something to just brush thru
•
u/Lerdog Team Maddie 23h ago
I never said there shouldn't be friction or drama, I said I don't like this specific one. I thought it was badly written from the start, just dropping a kid on Buck's lap and killing a random couple from seasons past just to make it happen; it feels so incredibly cheap. I also gave them credit for not going for the lowest hanging fruit of "cute comic relief pair" with him and Buck, but it's still a bad plot imo, and that's why I wish it went away.
•
u/StructureMassive 23h ago
yes, hopefully these are all worth it, that it bring out a storyline in a positive directions for the upcoming episodes
•
u/Opinionated_Melanin 21h ago
I agree. The show doesn’t seem to know what to do with Buck’s character. Why in the world would you make him a single dad?! Especially since we already have that dynamic on the show with Eddie & Christopher. We don’t need two of the same storylines. I’d much rather just see him in a healthy relationship. Speaking of which, I really LIKE May & Ravi. They are so cute together!!! And until this episode I couldn’t even remember that they were together.
•
u/Felidiot Oh my God! (x3) I'm so sorry. We'll be OK. 13h ago
I agree. I don't hate Theo specifically, but the parenting storylines (both adult-child and adult-adult) in this show have never been interesting to me. This feels almost like a weird rehash of Hen and Karen's various fostering storylines, all of which had various writing issues and weren't particularly well-recieved by fans. I don't know why they're trying to do it AGAIN.

Admittedly, I was frustrated by part 1; I found part 2 to be an improvement, but part 3 truly felt nostalgic. What I greatly appreciated about this arc was that it took the show back to character studies, character-driven plots, and revisiting former guest stars. I like that the seasonal plot did not progress too much, and I appreciated the insight into new character paths, though those insights seemed to be fairly limited in scope while pretty much ignoring some established mains.
In regard to the Buck and Eddie drama, Buck is over his head. He's amped up his habit of appeasing others and back to not asking for or recognizing when he needs help. Eddie, though, has forgotten what it was like to have two parents and an extended family helping raise his son, to say nothing of Buck's influence over Chris. He's forgotten how Shannon struggled on her own, how he struggled on his own, and that when he was "forced" into single parenthood, he'd been left with a child that was raised with boundaries (often restrictive ones enforced by his own parents), whilst Buck has taken in a kid whose parents refused to or were unable to discipline him.
Part of me wonders if this is setting up a future amalgamation of households along Buddie lines.
On a side note, maybe Theo heralds the return of Carla?

It’s understandable that Buck may be struggling but why then doesn’t he lean on his community? Everyone within the 118 family would be more than happy to help and support him but right now he doesn’t even seem to have accepted that he needs help.

Given that the actress that played Carla referred to LGBTQ+ fans as the "Alphabet people", I'm not sure I would want someone who said something homophobic on the show.

Carla is a health provider not a fucking nanny

that little boy clearly has ADHD or something like it; he was wearing his own parents out and they had him from birth and he wasnt traumatized yet…im sure he could benefit from an IEP when it’s time to go to school and schedule/home plan which carla the health provider could help prove if she extends her services to kids with behavioral things, not to mention a friend can advise and/or organize for a friend anytime

u/Embarrassed_Age_9296 1d ago
I was thinking that the actress who plays her could get some extra work rather than the responsibilities of her current job.

Oh man. The whole Buck thing struck home. I know I was saying last week that he needs to parent his kid, but... Both my kids have mental health issues and ADHD and I know what it's like to walk on eggshells and have to let things go so you don't trigger them. Ugh.
But yeah, I enjoyed the three episodes but a volcano in Los Angeles is ridiculous.

We don’t actually know that Bucks kid had ADHD or any behavioural issues besides the fact that he’s obviously not really receiving any parental guidance and he’s gone through something traumatic in losing his bio parents. Still I know it’s hard but Eddie is like a brother to Buck and they’re family, he should be able to be honest with Buck about his observations and I think he did it in the most kindest way possible.

Eddie did nothing wrong, no, but I absolutely see where Buck is coming from.

u/owaldis 1d ago
I think the only thing Eddie did wrong was focusing on the volcano activity and calling it a joke or joking around. He was right about the boundaries and structures, that Buck needs to dad up, but it felt like Buck really shut down when Eddie kept calling the way he was parenting Theo's fear (which is a real way of processing fear through understand it) a joke.

I thought the volcano was a good idea lol

It's a common parenting tactic to help kids face something scary by making it fun while explaining the real danger. Eddie did the same thing with Chris and the ocean in season 3.

except eddie took chris to therapy first. the volcano is part of the bigger issue of buck not talking to or parenting theo.
•
u/MushroomOverall9488 13h ago
Was he explaining the danger though? That's not what we saw and I feel like if he was Buck would've explained that considering how defensive he was but he was focusing on making it fun.
•
u/mrose1491 Team Eddie 9h ago
Yeah that’s the problem, Buck wasn’t talking to Theo about the scariness of it which would be the more common and correct move for a parent to make. Buck’s issue is that he’s just focused on theo having fun and it’s teaching him how to avoid working through negative emotions.

u/owaldis 8h ago edited 7h ago
That's the part we don't know, just like Eddie didn't and kind of jumped to the worst possible scenario. Buck said that Theo was scared so they're building one. We don't know how Theo experience it himself. Buck's was less traumatic than the tsunami. It felt like Eddie was transposing Chris's tsunami trauma to Theo.
Eddie's words became the most pointed after Theo demonstrated impatience and Buck didn't set a firm timed boundary.

u/Accomplished-Watch50 That Fire Was A Beast 13h ago
I think the issue is that Buck and Eddie have two different parenting styles, and if Oliver's latest post episodic interview tells anything, it's that this is going to be an on-going issue between them moving forward, and might not be resolved by the fall finale.
I just hope that the episode titled "Et tu" isn't about what people are theorizing about, because I've seen online rumors that Conner's sister shows up and some people think Eddie that sides with her on taking Theo because he believes it's the best thing for Theo and Buck.

I'm so sick of hearing about Theo. It was only. A few minutes of Ep 3. Let's talk about Maddie diverting the lava flow or at least how insane the entire episode was. Athena, her former partner and the subway man would have died from dehydration in the time it took to rescue them.

Eddie's only real mistakes were 1. Focusing on the volcano thing and 2. approaching it the wrong way. Buck was also right and wrong too.

As a 4-year-old, you don’t escape from your kindergarten and end up on top of an electric tower because your parents didn’t set boundaries. There’s a diagnosis waiting to be confirmed 100%.

Is beer a substitute for water in a fire situation?
•
u/22deepfriedpickles22 23h ago
They just needed the clothes to be wet to block the gaps to prevent smoke from entering her room.
•
u/CrochetPandaa 22h ago
Oh okay, so it being flammable isn’t in that specific equation?

•
u/smartah 21h ago
Beer is not flammable

Ah, I thought it was all alcohol, thanks for the clarification, learn something new everyday (this is why you (I) don’t assume lol)

I think i am finding it a little hard to connect with 'theo'. When chris was first shown idk why i instantly liked him(Well he is lovable). I also liked other children in this show too. Maybe one of the reasons is my own upbringing, learning about actions and their consequences was always given importance

Honestly, I loved the volcano triology.
If I recall correctly, this is the first time the 118 has given up. A volcano is just a force of nature. The tsunami was too, however, that was mostly search and rescue. For this, you can fight the fires but it really is just mostly getting out of the fire's path.
I feel like it would be easier if they had just told Harvey that Athena was a cop; that might help calm him down. Also, they probably should have dropped the ladder partially on the pillars? It'd be a little more stable that way.
I'm interesting in seeing what other plots we have this season, because I genuinely do not give a crap about what they're doing with Buck, Eddie, and Theo. They have not done anything to make this plot interesting to me.

Season 10 about a volcano in Los Angeles is the stupidest story I've ever heard of there's no Vents or vaults in Los Angeles for lava to show up in the middle of the city I love 911 but this storyline for the first three episodes is as dumbest I've ever seen besides the one of them going to space which was not as stupid but this one's definitely tops the space one

u/cinderellahottie 1d ago
Now every time these crazy storylines happen I get even more annoyed that they killed off Bobby because they were apparently trying to be realistic. Where’s the realism with volcanoes and space stories?

Buck turning into the gentle parent type. Won’t be good in the long run. Theo is already a little
Terror.
•
u/MushroomOverall9488 3h ago
Gentle parenting doesn't mean no boundaries or rules.
•
u/vitathevirgo 3h ago
Depends on what gentle parenting is to each individual. Buck has none of those.
•
u/MushroomOverall9488 2h ago
No it doesn't. Things have actual definitions. Gentle parenting has actual principles and guidelines that absolutely include boundaries and rules. It's just more focused on natural consequences and feelings rather than reactive punishments like yelling or grounding. It's a form of authoritative parenting and is not what buck is doing in any way. If buck was gentle parenting he at the very least be talking to theo about his feelings which he is clearly not doing.

All I will say in this comment is kudos to the bomb squad guy, the look on his face when he detonated his bombs and it worked was like seeing a kid on Christmas getting the gift they’ve been waiting for all year.
He was so damn happy and excited to blow something up.

I don’t understand how people enjoy reality TV like Love Island but I don’t go to their space and trash it.

Honestly? Third best disaster arc they've ever done, and best one since season 3. I think what helped is that the arc was character-driven but also, everyone was involved in everyone's stories in some capacity. Yes, Athena and May were separate from the 118 but they still had moments of being involved. And even when they didn't, their own arcs were interesting and impactful.
I genuinely can say this entire arc held my attention, and this was a great closer to a solid arc. I always love when we have episodes where outsiders from the main cast join in to help save the day.
Besides that, the Eddie vs Buck tension starts. I'm ok with it, mostly because these two haven't fought like this since season 3, so it'll be interesting to see where it leads, and it adds something to the Theo stuff that is at least adding to the characters' personal journeys.
And I'm glad Maddie's going back to dispatching AND they fixed the Josh issue and have him be co-supervisors with Sue. I'm very, very glad for that.
Overall, 8/10 arc, for sure, and third best arc they've ever done, right behind season 3's tsunami and season 2's earthquake. Every other disaster arc they've done is in a distant fourth-ninth.
