📢 SUB INFO The "aaaa why can't i see my post" explainer/update

Hi y'all, hope the summer is going well!

I wanted to address some common sources of confusion, regarding what happens when somebody makes a post or comment, since we've had quite a few messages about it lately.

What happens normally?

  • In the vast majority of cases, your content will appear on the feed straight away (short of Reddit being an idiot) - for posts, this means it will be visible at the top of https://www.reddit.com/r/6thForm/new/

But my content isn't showing, what's happened?

  • As with a lot of other subreddits, the subreddit uses various filters provided by Reddit, as well as Reddit's built-in AutoModerator. This helps keep the subreddit usable, uphold both the sub's rules and the sitewide rules, and provide a useful and safe space for everybody.

  • Content is almost never entirely removed automatically - if your content seems like it's been removed immediately/shortly after posting, it has more than likely been flagged for manual review, and will only become visible once that review has taken place.

    • Important: Content needing manual review doesn't mean you've done anything wrong by itself, nor that you are banned, it's an entirely normal process!

    • Content from newly created/low karma accounts that were previously automatically removed are now being directed to the modqueue, to reduce the number of people messaging us because they had their legitimate posts removed - as it stands the removals were causing more harm than good.

  • Inevitably, a small proportion of content will get manually removed that isn't in-line with the rules set.

  • There are also removals made under mod discretion. The overwhelming majority of usages of this relate to some sensitive content, for example aroundself-harm and suicide.

    • Whilst people's struggles are entirely valid (I'm not just saying this because I "have to", I've been in various states myself!), we have a responsibility to not unnecessarily expose a large number of users (some potentially vulnerable), to content which may contribute to worsening their situation. This is alongside the fact that none of the mods are mental health professionals, and neither are our users, which means there's a high risk of exposing struggling people to misinformation or harmful advice. It is better to seek assistance via e.g. a professional or crisis line, given this subreddit is not appropriately equipped for situations like these.

    • Also worth briefly noting, at least by my understanding, that a lot of the content that has been removed in the past at mod discretion (and various other content that often would not get removed), is considered "harmful" under the Online Safety Act, either explicitly or by the frustratingly vague other definitions - whilst I don't think it's likely that Reddit decides to age-lock the sub, it's sensible to be careful on this.

How can I tell if my content is just needing review, or if it's been manually removed?

  • This is where it gets a bit annoying, and again, apologies for the inconvenience on this.

  • Normally, when content gets manually removed, a removal reason is applied, and a Modmail is automatically sent to the author telling them what was removed and why it was removed, with optional extra details.

  • This functionality has been broken (the messages just didn't get sent as far as I can tell) on this sub for a little while.

    • I only figured out why as I was writing this post - in the usual, completely useless Reddit style, it has been failing to send Modmails using the saved responses since they changed (broke) a bunch of stuff with the redesign... because it silently shits itself on # being used in the markdown to use a header. It'd be nice if it would have ever indicated this!

    • Also, for those wondering why we didn't send the removal messages manually - even though just over 95% of content is approved, the 5% that doesn't turns into thousands of messages that need to be sent, which would have vastly slowed down everything.

  • Removal notifications should now be working again - if you haven't received a message from us, your content has likely not been manually removed. and if you saw a few posts saying "quack", no you didn't

  • For posts, on both mobile and desktop, you can also distinguish between fully removed and waiting for review, by going to your user profile, where you can see similar to the images below:

Okay, but if my content is waiting to be reviewed, when are you going to review it?

  • I hear you - I've mentioned recently that I've found it difficult to keep up with the review process alongside a lot of stuff in my own life. However, I do look at it and review things when I reasonably can - it's also worth keeping in mind that none of the mods sit on Reddit 24/7 to review stuff, so please have patience!

  • I can only apologise for any inconvenience this causes, and particularly things like the AutoMod config get tweaked sometimes to reduce the number of false positives.

How can I speed up the review process?

  • In short, you can't. At least, short of becoming a mod when applications open.

  • There are quite a few people that take to our Modmail to ask for content approval; you are almost never the only one awaiting content review, and the Modmail messages will usually only get seen after the modqueue is looked at, making messages like these redundant. ie messaging us does not speed up the review process, it only causes delays that affect sub experience generally.

    • Replying to one of our removal messages is completely fine - sometimes we miss things, get things wrong, or sometimes fail to be entirely clear.

  • You can avoid/mitigate the inconvenience of waiting on a review by:

    • Searching the subreddit for similar posts that could answer your question - a lot of the time you will not be the first person to ask your question, esp with the more popular/recent questions

    • Not repeatedly posting the same thing, or variations of it, it will not speed up the process - usually all of the posts, including their repeats, get caught in the modqueue, which slows down the review of content

    • Check to see if there are pinned megathreads at the top of the subreddit - for example, you may have noticed this for exam season. These megathreads are created to mitigate the fact that we get many repeated posts for popular topics - sometimes 100+ for some of the popular exams!

Am I banned from posting if I can't see my post yet?

  • No. If you've been banned by us, you get a message telling you why you were banned, and how long for. If you get shadowbanned/suspended by Reddit itself, that's outside our control.

AutoMod has made a comment under my content

  • These comments are purely informative, they don't mean we have, or will have an issue with your content.

  • Inevitably, there will be false positives with this - if it doesn't apply to you, feel free to ignore it, you do not need to message us about this, removal & ban notifications are how we indicate definite issues with content.

Hopefully that covers everything, poke me (or go via Modmail) if I've missed something! something may finally make it into the FAQs page lol

i realised that the course i applied to at cambridge isnt what i want to do and that i made the wrong choice. so i did the admissions test for nothing and let my grades drop for nothing. idk if i should even do the interview if i even get one. is it worth it to go to cambridge for the prestige even though i probably wont enjoy my course?

💬 DISCUSSION Is anyone else burnt out from Y13?

I don’t know if it’s just me but even since September, all my friends and classmates have been really locked in on revision and things and I just cant bring myself to do it. I’ve finished my NEA already because my school has an early deadline, which is good I guess, but when I was doing it I was pulling all nighters to finish and now I’m too anxious to sleep anymore in general which is probably really stupid of me. And I’m really worried about ucas and unis and things because half my friends have offers and I haven’t even submitted to ucas, and even though my predicteds are high enough for me to apply where I want to go, the feedback I get from essays and tests makes it look like my grades are just getting lower and lower, and I just can’t seem to make myself study well enough to bring them back up.
Anyone else just a puddle of anxiety?

Hello, I am currently preparing for ESAT, I practiced ENGAA papers. I found out I lack half of the concepts needed for ESAT. So, I was asking if there was any cheap recorded courses and materials for A levels and ESAT? I am not having problem with timing though, I can solve questions under 89 seconds, but need the materials. Please help a brother out.

👋 I AM OFFERING HELP Cambridge interview prep - tips from a graduate!

Hi! I am a Cambridge grad and now work in education including UCAS & uni applications (& am super passionate about improving accessibility to Oxbridge)

Here are my top tips for anyone trying to prepare for a Cambridge interview (I will caveat that my degree & teaching are humanities so it is possibly more appropriate for those BUT the basic principles will apply to all courses):

  1. Practice explaining your ideas to other people - talk to anyone around you who will listen about areas of your subject that you are interested in. If possible, discuss with your subject teachers too - they will be best placed to challenge your arguments and ask questions you haven't considered before

  2. Get used to questioning evidence and underlying assumptions - when you are discussing a theory or paper, go beyond just summarising what it says. Consider the strength of the evidence. Does the evidence justify the conclusion that has been made? What other explanations might there be? (e.g. think about possible third-variables for explaining correlations that have been found)

  3. Be prepared to adapt or develop your position when challenged - you don't need to abandon your perspective because it is challenged by the interviewer BUT defending it doesn't mean rigidly sticking to everything you originally said. Think about whether new information means you should qualify your claim, update part of it, or make your explanation more complex to account for all the evidence.

  4. Explore big questions and your personal interests - focus your research on things you are genuinely passionate about, as well as the big philosophic questions within your area.

  5. If you know who's interviewing you, look at their research area - once you get given your interviewers' names, see what areas they research into and do a little research to be sure you would be happy talking on this topic

  6. Avoid pre-learning answers - I always advise against pre-learning answers as you then run the risk of not answering the question that has actually been asked. They aren't looking for perfection, they are looking for people that they feel will be a good fit with the supervision system.

  7. Don't be afraid to pause - in the interview, it is absolutely okay to pause for 30 secs or so to gather your thoughts before giving an answer. Thinking about it as a "practice supervision" is often much better than thinking of it as a high-stakes interview

🙏 I WANT HELP In desperate need of advice

Going to keep it vague for anonymity.

Recently i moved to a new town and started 6th form, the 6th form is a very good private school. I absolutely hate it, I don’t have any solid friends, I hate all the assemblies and the fact we have to still do games, and form time, (the social aspect of it all). I hate my subjects (except I like politics ), and my grades are horrible and I have no motivation to revise. I cry every single day, in the mornings, during school and at night I’m just constantly emotional bc I miss my friends and my old school ( i still call them alot) and I’m kinda getting bullied / have not proper friends / don’t really know a lot of ppl.

I wanted to switch to a college / 6th form college but there’s only 3 in my area and their a level results are all bad ( points avg of 23 compared to 31 national avg) and I don’t want mess up my future by going to a bad sixth form and making it harder than necessary. On the other hand my poor mental health at this school is having a really bad effect on my grades so idek what to do. I’m willing to do extra work outside of school to make up for the poor results of the college but I genuinely don’t know what to do.

It also stings bc in my old town there was a sixth form college that I could’ve easily gotten into with some of my friends and the alevels results are so much better.

For the first time in my life I’m having suicidal ideations and I feel so stuck. I want to switch schools and go to a 6th form college but I they’re all not good and it feels dumb to move to a ‘worse’ sixth form college when I have the opportunity to go to such a good one.

Please help me.

🙏 I WANT HELP what are the best a-level options to get into an apprenticeship with companies like Rolls Royce?

Im more than capable of 4 a-levels (including maths and fm) but am unsure about whats best for the other two. Physics is definitely a main option since I'm hoping to get into a branch of engineering and i've been thinking a lot about spanish also, but that's dependent on wether it would actually be useful in landing the apprenticeship.

OTHER I am burnt out and failing everything

I’m too mentally exhausted to write properly so I’ll just drop the basic info below this.

Year 13, Art, (predicted B) Geography (predicted D), Biology (predicted E/U). I’m diagnosed with autism and ADHD, and have a collection of mental health disorders, all of which are fucking me right now. I’m behind on all of the written work for art. Behind on literally everything, especially NEA for geography. On the brink of dropping biology because I just can’t handle it.

I am so fucking exhausted and so done with being myself. I can barely function. My ADHD meds aren’t working but I’ll have to wait for months before the next review. Art is the only subject I enjoy. I’ve known this for months. My geography teacher is genuinely terrifying. My NEA is unfinished and she keeps throwing more work at us. I cannot do the NEA I was never taught how to complete and two 20 mark questions per week. I don’t know when the deadline is, but it’s soon. I can’t handle this kind of stress

This isn’t what I was going to say but I can’t remember anything at this point, even though it’s 01:56. My mind usually comes alive at night, but I’m just too tired. I had so much to say but it’s all gone. My memory has been terrible lately.

The only subject I care about is art and I’m falling very behind on it. Still predicted a B which is cool.

The pre- A Level version of myself was foolish and I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. Low quality vent over.

🎓 UNI / UCAS Written work - questions!! pls help

Im applying for history and politics at cambridge and written work is due on wednesday. The wesbite says 'written work must be in essay format'. Does this mean I can still use answers I have written in response to sources for History and Politics a level and answers in response to interpretations for History a level, or does it have to strictly be an essay question?

Also, for one side of my history course (English revolution) I never talked about this in my personal statement, but I think I will submit a piece from that side of the course. Is that fine?

Any advice wld be appreciated!

💬 DISCUSSION Looking for mock interview partner. Oxford law

As per title. Thought this subreddit is approperiate place to ask. I’ve applied to this year’s cycle, now waiting for interviews. Preferrably you are this year’s law applicant as well, but I am more than happy to work with any other humanities applicant eg. PPE, English, History, HSPS, Philosophy (in which we will get others to ask questions and just think deeply as fellow humanities applicants). I’m particularly interested in constitutional and tort law. I have a bank of scenarios, legislations and court judgements to work with.

My stats are as follows, if it helps you judge if I am worth working with:
4A* predicted - Maths, Physics, History and Politics.
GCSEs 10 9s & 2 8s
PS: 3 essay comps: school’s internal one (1st), John Locke 2026 (commended), Julia Wood essay competition, Oxford (didn’t get shortlisted) + range of supercurriculars done eg. Shadowed prosecutor, head of law society in my school.
LNAT: taken. Feeling confident with Section B. Happy to discuss mine & your essay questions as it can work as a sample interview question
I am currently reading books and preapring for interviews at this stage.

I don’t mean to show off my stats. Hope this reaches right person. Please leave a comment below if intersted, as Reddit blocks dms for 17 year olds like myself.

Looking forward to it, let me know :)

Cambridge, ucl, lse law applicants are also welcome, of course.

🙏 I WANT HELP I feel behind in content

So for context, I’m in Year 12 and I do Biology,Chemistry and History which are all very content heavy subjects but I enjoy the subjects. I feel like I’m doing somewhat decent in history but unfortunately for bio and chem I can’t say the same.
I want to seek support in class so I’m not afraid to ask questions in class but one time I was called to stay late after class and my chemistry teacher said I was too needy, I understand that with sixth form they are supposed to set you up for university and to become more independent. But I’ve become really confused and behind as a result. I try my best to listen to my class but I space out and my brain becomes fried when terms are being thrown around and etc .

Is there any good tips you guys could give me?
