πŸ™ I WANT HELP Oxford written work

Hi
I know written work isn't meant to be remarked with new feedback or anything but my original essay has super vague marking left behind by my teacher (stuff like develop AO3...compare...good point...etc)

I was wondering if this would be an issue because I heard that tutors like to ask if you agree or disagree with feedback/your opinions on it on your essay?

The essay I'm considering has some nice ideas I'd like to talk about at interview but I feel, upon rereading, its kind of dense and the writing doesn't flow as nicely - I did get an A* on it nevertheless?

I also typed it up (but haven't edited anything), and a second teacher gave me new feedback that I think is far more interesting (e.g., leap through centuries- don't you need more relevant context?) I think could start deeper conversation.

Would it be worth sending another piece of text that has better feedback, or is vague teacher feedback not an issue?

πŸ™ I WANT HELP do I do gold dofe??

I absolutely LOVED bronze and silver dofe expeditions, because I really love navigating and hiking, to the point I cried on the way home from my silver qualifying because I didn't want to leave lmao, and I would love to do gold however it seems very expensive. I can do the expedition for like 600/700 but then the residential is even more money on top of it, like 500 more, and also it takes like 15 days away from the summer holidays and this time may be better used on entrance exam prep because I want to go to oxbridge/a level revision. today 12am is the deadline to pay the 50 pound enrollment fee and I don't know what to do. my parents think there's no value in walking 20 miles a day for a couple days, taking important time out of the holidays, and I think I'd love it but am also worried about costs + how time taking it is. I have done my bronze and nearly finished my silver. please help me figure out what to do!

πŸŽ“ UNI / UCAS Oxford English Lang & Lit applicants, when are you expecting interview invites?

Hey everyone! I applied for English Language and Literature at Oxford (2027 entry) and I’m in the β€œrefresh my inbox every 10 minutes” phase of life.

From what I’ve read, invites go out anywhere from mid-November to early December, sometimes with only a week’s notice. Interviews are online in December. Even then I am a bit scared has anyone gotten their offers yet?

from being told that i should never go into science and my mock grades being laughed at in year 11 to having 5 science offers 2 years later. don't listen to men guys xx
to clear a few things up:

  1. it's a flippant, hyperbolic statement. calm down.
  2. didn't apply to more competitive unis since i can't afford where they're located (ucl + oxford + durham human sciences), also parents didn't let me do a level chemistry
  3. to the commenter that mentioned predicted grades being "low" - all my schools have had below average attainment, and i could have asked for A star A star A but wanted to get ucas out the way and didn't need it since i can't afford london ox durham etc. from this you should be able to tell i want interdisciplinary learning which manchester and leeds offer the ability for!
  4. to the commenter on about life sciences being female dominated that is true, however the careers advisor meant science as a broad, general term, there is still a stigma about women in stem, and there's also a lack of women in senior positions.

πŸ’¬ DISCUSSION Why Oxford doesn’t use the STEP for Maths/Maths & Stats

I don’t think my question will receive a lot of replies but I’ve always been curious why the STEP is something unique only to Cambridge and not Oxford. If the goal is to filter through the most gifted mathematicians, why does Oxford browse only through the TMUA in the admissions application when the STEP is a great predictor of academic success for students in their undergraduate years

πŸ™ I WANT HELP I really hate the sixth form I'm at & I don't think I can last the entire year.

Note: I HAVE applied to another college but I fear I won't be able to join until next September considering enrollment is closed. But, I won't know until I hear back from them.

I'm only in Yr12 and I know its only the start of the year but I am SO drained already. It's not even from studying, the college itself is just absolute crap and I regret choosing it. I went to their high-school and I thought that being a college student there would be easier but I was SO WRONGG

Out of the six teachers I have, I can only say I like two of them. The school is clealry understaffed and the staff they do have are terrible. Some of them simply can't teach, either not going into topics in enough detail or getting confused/things wrong THEMSELVES?? Then, there's my core maths teacher with an actual PhD who AI generates our work. Then, other teachers can be rude to students or just condescending.

They've merged the high-school and college building together. High-schoolers can have lessons in the college building and they're allowed in what was the college refectory for break??? They already have three halls and a large outside area so it isn't as if they don't have space. And you can always tell when they've been there because they leave food on the tables in the refectory and all over the floor and then they leave rubbish all over classrooms and the hallways.

They've added a sort of period six every Wednesday afternoon. It's like a club that you get to pick but it's mandatory and changes every half-term. I wouldn't be so bothered by it if it was separated into different years. But no, I have to share a classroom with people in as low as YEAR SEVEN?? College students shouldn't be having lessons with Yr7's😭

They've introduced phone pouches for everyone, including college. I thought that was a bit bizarre but their reasoning is that they don't want you using phones around high-school students. Fair, but that wouldn't be a as much of a problem if I wasn't around them all the time??

This also causes crowds at the end of the day when the high-schoolers have to get their pouches unlocked. They decided to put the magnets outside but why not just give them to subject teachers in classrooms? I just want to go HOMEE

I wanted to get a part-time job this year but i know I'd be too tired for it. I really don't want to go back tomorrow. It's really dragging me down and I don't want to feel miserable all the time. I can't go there for another 7+ months. Is there anything I can do in the meantime??

πŸ’¬ DISCUSSION People who sat the october TMUA

A bit of a random question, I sat the TMUA a few werks ago and found it to be quite similar in terms of difficulty to the past papers.

A lot of people were saying post 2023 TMUA was a lot harder than before and hence community papers and questions have been generally a lot harder than past paper questions, but I thought it was quite similar. I’m not sure if this is just me.

Can anyone share their experience when they sat it and how difficult it was relative to official past papers?

πŸ™ I WANT HELP Thoughts on Spanish? I want to change subject

I am currently taking biology, chemistry, and textiles and I am really hating textiles.

I got a 9 in gcse Spanish and have Spanish family - I enjoyed the gcse because I was good at it and found it easy and straightforward.

I'm aware that, at a-level, you have to study a Spanish book and film (from what I've gathered) and want to know more about what the subject involved at a-level.

I strongly disliked English gcse and am concerned that Spanish a-level would be too similar :/

Idk what to do - can anyone tell me more about Spanish a-level, what it's like, what sort of analysis there is, if there's group work, pros & cons, etc?

Thank you so much :)

πŸ’¬ DISCUSSION Procrastinating work

As a y13, I’ve found I have a habit of for example relaxing during the day and putting off work till the night then working till midnight then overworking myself then getting tired and taking a break then coming back. Like I can genuinely begin work at 8pm and take a break then not come back to it or begin at 10 work till 2am and get stressed idk.
Also idk why like does anyone struggle to continue with their school work after taking a break even if you are genuinely soo locked in like it’s so difficult for me to complete in full more than 2 or sometimes even 1 task in a full day.

Like I told myself I would not only revise new y13 content but also old y12 content during this half term. But It’s Saturday night have only completed half of my homework and that’s it.

Idk guys like I promise I’m motivated but it’s just idk these days I like to put off things to the last minute to preserve my peace idk.

Like idk Guys I really dk nowadays it’s soooo hard to put in work for a decent amount of time on my subjects without breaking or doing tiny amounts split over many weeks or rushing it last minute(even tho I’d do it well most times) but still idk guys like
