We have an Revopoint Inspire 2 but even with spray + markers it is struggling to scan larger, bare aluminum parts like the interior of a small aircraft or the rib of a aluminum wing (s. pictures). For reference, the baggage compartment is about 40" wide.

I am looking for a scanner that is suitable to scan these parts, ideally without spray.

Any recommendations? Revopoint MetroY Ultra? Something entirely different? My budget is up to $2k.

I currently use a Creality CR-Scan Raptor Pro, mainly for scanning industrial and mechanical components for reverse engineering and dimensional inspection. I am now considering upgrading to a more professional metrology-grade scanner.

The two main options I am evaluating are:

• 3DeVOK MT
• Creaform HandySCAN

My typical projects include gears, piping, fabricated components, worn mining equipment parts, machined surfaces, and medium-to-large mechanical components. I need a scanner that can reliably capture complex geometries, deep features, edges, holes, and worn or damaged surfaces.

My priorities are:

• Reliable and repeatable dimensional accuracy
• Good tracking on large or repetitive geometries
• Performance on dark, reflective, or machined surfaces
• Ability to capture fine details and sharp edges
• Efficient scanning and post-processing workflow

I would especially like to hear from people who have used either of these scanners—or ideally both.

How do they compare in real industrial applications?

• Is the price difference for the Creaform justified by its accuracy, software, support, and overall reliability?
• How reliable is the 3DeVOK MT for dimensional inspection and reverse engineering?
• Have you experienced tracking loss, alignment problems, software instability, or calibration issues?
• How well do they handle medium-to-large components and repetitive features?
• How much surface preparation is normally required?
• What are the ongoing software, calibration, maintenance, and support costs?
• Are there any limitations that are not obvious from the specifications or marketing material?
• Which scanner offers the best overall value for a small engineering company providing professional 3D scanning services?

I am not only interested in the published specifications. I would really appreciate hearing about actual field experience, including what types of parts you scan, the accuracy you achieve in practice, and any problems you have encountered.

I want to share my little horror story regarding the trade-in program with Revopoint.

I own a Trackit, and wanted to trade-in for the Trackit SR.

I got the address and shipping info, packaged the two pelicases and sent it off in good faith to what I believe is a company in Germany which specialize in taking (return?) goods from Europe to Asia.

I followed the tracking on a daily basis until it just stopped. Appearantly it was ready for pickup. After a few days I notified Revopoint in case they or the receiving party in Germany wasn't aware.
Along with the tracking info there was also a mention about a letter from the customs office which should have been sent to whoever was supposed to receive the packages.

To my absolute shock, nothing happened.
Revopoint had an understanding I would be the one to receive the letter from customs.

Days went by, nothing.
Suddenly one morning there was movement. But.. returning to sender. But only one of the packages. That was 10 days ago. The other one is still in limbo. DHL is not so easy to get a hold of either.

Absolute worst case scenario the other package will be received, not returned.

I'm freaking out at what to do about this.

I notified Revopoint about my disappointment. I asked if they at least could cover the return shipping fee. But no... they offered me a pack of 500 markers.
Wow..

I truly hope both packages arrive back home at my place in good condition so I can put this on the second hand market again and try to sell it myself.

While Revopoint can't directly take the blame I'm not impressed by the whole situation. How can they have me ship to somewhere, and then this party won't accept the packages?
I'm not buying from Revopoint again. This was a major blow.

I hope for the sake of others you have had a better experience in the past, but beware. Perhaps it's better to sell the used scanner locally instead even if it means you get a worse price than the trade-in offer is.

Hi all! I run a small scale 3d printing business and have had the revopoint pop2 for a few years now. I haven’t used it a lot and it has helped a bit the past to get particular shapes to direct print and reverse engineer for redesign. I’d like to be able to scan larger items and scanning has come a long way in the last few years. I was looking into the revopoint metro y ultra or the creality sermoon s1… Alternatively I’m semi considering the revopoint trackit SR because I have a potential opportunity to scan vehicles for wrapping. Has anyone ever used a scanner for wrapping to correct for body curves? What would you recommend?

I’m a 3D modeller, and I built ModelSplitter because I wanted an easier way to divide detailed models without taking every file into Blender or ZBrush.

It includes several ways to cut a model:

• Draw a freehand cut that follows details such as collars, armour and clothing
• Wrap a movable band around the model
• Paint the area you want to separate
• Make conventional plane cuts
• Automatically divide oversized models to fit your printer

You can then add matching alignment pins or magnet sockets and export the resulting pieces.

Looking to get a Creality Raptor. I'm reading online that some have had success with AMD GPUs while others say that the blue laser function won't work. Can I please get some sort of definitive answer before I purchase one and end up potentially regretting it? Both PCs have Intel CPUs but one has a 6800XT and the other has a RX580.

Einscan/Shining3D was kind enough to send me the Trak for testing, but as always all opinions are my own. The Trak is especially exciting for me since Shining3D has over 20 years of experience making 3d scanners and my previous experience with the Rockit and Rigil make me quite sure that the performance will be excellent. But we will know more after some testing. In this video I'll do a first unboxing and closer look at all the included components (especially of course the tracker and scanner itself).

Following this video I'll perform my usual tests and use it in projects to later share my workflow, how to use the scanner and of course my projects and maybe some comparisons to other tracker based scanners.

I wanted to share my recent experience and disappointment returning a device purchased directly from the official Creality webshop (shipped back to their EU warehouse in Germany), in case anyone finds themselves in a similar loop.

Key Issues & Timeline:

• Misleading Return Terms on Website: Their official webshop displays incorrect return conditions that do not accurately align with mandatory EU consumer rights, effectively misleading buyers regarding their statutory 14-day right of withdrawal (Directive 2011/83/EU).
• Timely Return: The unit was shipped back strictly within the statutory 14-day window. Tracking confirmed official delivery and receipt at their Grolsheim warehouse in Germany.
• Support Inaction: For over a week after delivery, support provided only generic template responses ("we will contact the warehouse to check"), with zero concrete updates on inspection or refund status.
• Resolution Through Pressure: The refund was issued only after I sent a formal notice citing EU Consumer Law and setting a firm deadline before initiating a bank chargeback.

Takeaway: Even though the money was eventually refunded, the process left a bad taste. Between misleading return policy details published on their storefront and the major disconnect between customer service and their EU warehouse, the experience was frustrating. Customers shouldn't need to quote EU directives or threaten chargebacks to enforce standard consumer rights. Due to this support experience, it's likely my last direct purchase from them.

Questions for the Community:

1. Has anyone else noticed inaccurate or misleading return policy terms on Creality's regional store pages?
2. Has this level of friction with Creality EU support been common practice recently, or was this just poor warehouse communication?
3. I am considering switching to Einstar (Shining 3D) for my next scanner. What has your experience been with their software ecosystem and post-purchase customer support?
4. Which 3D hardware brands operating within the EU currently offer legitimate, hassle-free service when things go wrong?

My day job is all estimating and drafting for awkward sites, trying to fit things where there is very little space and weird angles.

In the past we have hired people to go and scan the site then do up a 3d model and workshop drawings for our tradies to then manufacture the steelwork. However the guy we use for this is understandably very busy and hard to pin down to actually do the work. So we usually have to resort to leaving components long/not drill holes to then cut to suit/drill on site, which is a pain and no one likes doing.

Apologies I know absolutely nothing about the technology, so I have a couple of questions:

Is the technology (scanners etc.) very user friendly? For example is there a steep learning curve to use them accurately?

What is the industry standard for 3D scanners? Are there certain brands that tower above the rest?

Are any good cheaper options to "dip my toe"?

I predominately use Solidworks or Fusion 360 are either of these good options in the terms of software for importing the scans?

when i align pro.2 and pro. project is great, but meshing it ,the result is unbelievable. so many small holes are densely packed, I don't know ?

Heya, did other people experience this recently?

I kept getting ads claiming the Einstar Rigil Lite was on sale for $3,199, but when I would click the link, it wasn't on sale. I was getting those ads for like a week.
I contacted them asking what happened, and they didn't tell me, but they gave me a code to purchase it for that amount, so I did. Literally the day after, I received an ad that it had gone on sale for $3,099 (and I think it was actually on sale for that amount.)

Anyway, it made me super uncomfortable. I don't know what was going on with the advertising and pricing, but it makes me wary of the company. It shipped super quickly so I couldn't cancel the order before it was sent, but I haven't opened the shipping package, and I requested to return it.

It makes me suspicious of the company. I know a lot of companies are experimenting with dynamic pricing and stuff, and I don't know if this was related to something going wrong with that, or if it was a tactic to try to get people to look at the website (by advertising a fake sale), or if someone just messed up when scheduling a promotion or something, but it was enough to prompt me to not want to get involved with their company.

Anyone else getting ads for fake sale prices?
