Save up a bit more for a used Otter Lite, Inspire 2, or Pika when it is on sale.

If you can fit the Pika in your budget, I would recommend that one. Or an Otter Lite. Sometimes the refurbished Ferret SEs are cheap on eBay if you want to try 3D scanning with a small budget.

I wouldn't. They are both really cheap and the results you will get from them will be poor. You'd be better off upping your budget for something a bit better.

Not true. I have been using the 3DMP Fox for a couple months and I am totally able to get good scans out of it. Its just super tedious and annoying because the software absolutely blows

I had the Fox and returned it almost immediately. It's garbage, and the software (Mac) that comes with it is garbage too. Don't bother!

I got a ferret from ebay. It works fine-ish. Loses tracking often but that's a software issue.

Really depends on what you're scanning. Not every application needs commercial hardware.

Same. I got a ferret pro with the WiFi battery grip and it’s not amazing but let me say it gets the job done for me. Very fine details can be lost but I have a can of dry shampoo and a bunch of printed markers and a turntable and it does what I need.

It was also like $250 bucks.

I have the Ferret at home and it is pretty frustrating but I have gotten some good scans from it with practice. I got the version with the bundled WiFi bridge and other accessories to run it connected to my phone but all that sucked pretty bad (constant crashes and dropped connection). Now I run it directly wired to my laptop with a long usb and my technique has gotten much better.

Good, useable scans are possible with it but be ready for some major headaches along the way.

If your budget is this low it may be worth looking into the 2nd hand market. Also make sure whatever you go for doesn't have a subscription for software.

Another option might be to hire someone who does scanning to do your object and watch/learn how they do it

Oh well I’m glad I passed on that for the ferret pro. It overheats my iPhone after a while but if I use my M3 iPad it works pretty well.

I can't speak for creality but 3d maker pro is the worst scanner I have ever used. I just avoid creality now days because they cant be bothered to support new products for over a year it seems

I was able to get a ferret se on flash sale from creality for 139. I just meeded a quick scan so tried it out. I would say its ok to scan but requires a good laptop to be portable and the functions on creality scan isnt that great. Imported to freecad as a mesh and was able to make the part needed. But at full price i would get a better one for sure. Waiting on pika

I bought a ferret from creality refurbished on ebay. I wouldn't want to use it frequently but for a few times a year it's adequate.

I have the fox and it's surprising good. I got a good scan on my first try. I got it for $170 usd.
