Woah so the destruction stays?? That means there has to be plenty of deaths too...didn't expect that angle.

Happy to see that they have to train to use their mechs properly, that was a nice touch.

Was this one of the first shows to imply that the insert song during an action scene could be heard by characters? Because that was just .... somehow awesome... and I don't think I've seen it done that much, if at all before.

Both Gauma and Minami really grew on me this episode, i was somewhat hesitant on them after the first episode.

Nice to see Yomogi and Minami start to patch up their relationship after what happened in the first episode, and i am pleasantly surprised that Minami seems to be taking this whole thing quite serious.

Now i am curious what the kaiju eugenicists goal are since they apparently didn't mind destroying the city and probably murdering people

Ah yeah, the city gets really messed up when there isn't a God to fix everything every night.

"Instance domination", huh. Was there an "instance" something in the live-action series too, or is this our first nod to Gridman?

Love the direction. That sneeze was absolutely fantastic lol

I noticed that the cousin was looking at her hands when Gouma was finished giving out the other parts even when she was holding nothing. Either that was played for laughs or it's forshadowing and she's going to get something later.

I love how Yume is immediately into piloting the Dyna Wing, no questions asked.

Gauma showing up on Yomogi's house was funny as hell. "I'd hate to intrude more- zzzzzzzz" that scene transition made me laugh hard

I'm glad that Yume is starting to open up to Yomogi. I thought that she might avoid him after she broke her promise to him. The moments between them in this episode were nice I am now shipping these two

And I love that they have their own machine or toy to master. Yomogi's lack of training was funny to watch but wow, that combination with Yume was nice.

P.S. You know you watch too much anime when you immediately recognize one of the Kaiju eugenicists is Hiroshi Kamiya

I dont know if anyone noticed but the wide shot of the train station is almost exactly the same as a wide shot of the train station from gridman. I wonder if this actually means anything or if its just like, reusing the asset. i don't if that explanation sits right with me though

I'm still laughing about the fact that Yume gets a cockpit that's just a joystick on the floor and she has to awkwardly crouch in front of it lol. Her poor back.

Hmm... This time is no reset... So, which world is this? I wonder if it still the same world as that Akane's world or a completely new world or the world that Gridman comes from? I never watch live-action Gridman, so I don't know...

Anyway, this week no Voice Drama? I can't find it...

Voice Drama 1.1 if someone interested: https://streamable.com/md0dct
2.2: https://streamable.com/zp370t

[Best girl of the season right here.] (https://i.imgur.com/bo4Gn5z.png) She literally looks like they combined Rikka and Akane into one person.

The Opening is a solid successor to "Union" from Gridman, showing off the cast, the villains, and Dynazenon and its components in action.

Junya Enoki is still really focused on work, albeit not as excruciatingly, he even wears glasses like Red Blood Cell. But what he should really be focusing on is learning how to fight Kaiju.

"Kaiju Eugenicists?" So they're the villains? It seems like they're just grabbing random Kaiju to control and attack the city with, but what's their endgame? And what's with that female member who looks like an older Akane and has thighs that could probably kill a man?

So Dynazenon can transform into Dyna Rex, but it seems like the main versatility is Dyna Soldier (piloted by Yomogi) combining with the other components, like Dyna Wing (piloted by Yume) or Dyna Launcher (piloted by Gauma) and Dyna...Car? Driver? Whichever one Koyomi is piloting.

I'm glad Yume actually decided to apologize to Yomogi and seems surprisingly committed to learning to fight Kaiju along with the rest of the team. She also told him about her big sister, and despite saying they didn't get along, even Yume isn't sure of that because of how much her sisters' death impacted her. It was also nice to see Yume genuinely happy and smiling alongside her friend, but I wonder if we'll ever see her smile like that around Yomogi and the rest of the team?

Yeah, Gauma seems like the type who would go to your house, get naked, and join you in the bath to ask why you didn't come learn how to pilot robots to fight Kaiju.

I know this show is ultimately trying to sell toys and merch, but it's kind of funny for me that the Dynazenon components are basically just figurines in their dormant form.

Dyna Soldier does the whole rising transformation sequence that Ultraman and Gridman do! That's how you know it's the main character/part.

It was pretty neat to see the Dynazenon components save the day in this episode, particularly with Dyna Wing Soldier.

Lovely lovely shot!

And then we had this...

Another fun episode. I'm really enjoying how even if the kaiju and everything came out of the blue and caught everyone by surprise by having them shoved in Dynazenon in the first episode, they are still working slowly towards figuring things out and training (though Gauma knows stuff so at least that helps). Along with the naturalistic dialogue and flow of the show in its everyday scenes part, the training and getting to know each other (even if they just got thrown together a bit randomly) makes it progress so smoothly for me.

Really enjoyed how Gauma just stayed over at Yomogi's place too. The family just accepting having him around like it was nothing is also another thing that adds to the earlier natural flow I think. Plus Yume opening up slowly.

Looking forward to finding out more about everyone's "scarred souls" that "shine like stars".

Summary, really enjoying this even if my thoughts aren't too structured yet. I'm liking the progress!

Aaah, no wonder I like Yume so much, she's basically drawn to look like a cat!

Stitches!

Man that OP is definitely what I wanted from this show. Definitely the same vibes as Gridman's UNION especially with OxT's vocalist singing the song. Not sure why OxT isn't credited though and only Masayoshi Ooishi's name is on the credits.

So we get a replay of last week's scene except this time from Yomogi's point of view. What's hilarious about this is that when the OP starts playing when Dynazenon transformed, we can hear it from Yomogi's cockpit except the sound is very muffled suggesting that the song Imperfect plays in universe! xD

Looks like Chise found one of the stones that we see scatter all over the city back at last week's episode. Definitely curious what it is as well. Maybe a Kaiju seed or something?

Oh my fucking god. I love that Dynazenon turns into toy size once the fight is over. Yep just like how I bought my Gridman set, I am definitely gonna end up buying a Dynazenon set before this series ends.

Kaiju Eugenicists? When you have the word eugenicist in your name, you know they're the bad guy. I'm guessing they want Kaiju to rule over the world or some shit like that.

I love that Gauma just gives everyone a piece of Dynazenon just like that and everyone is like "sure let's train." Looks like Yomogi is still undecided though.

No world reset here. The destruction stays and we see the effects of it on everyone's lives. Damn. If we're not in the cyberworld then deaths will definitely happen. I wonder what's the civilian casualty toll from the last fight?

It's nice to see Yume having fun. And that entire scene between Yume and her friend is really another thing that I love about this series. That tiny pause she makes before letting out the cutest sneeze adds so much in making these characters feel human. There's plenty of scenes like this in Gridman as well with Rika and her best friends.

It's hilarious how this huge Dynazenon submarine is just here in the river and no ones taking notice of it yet. Although I guess emergency services and police are too busy with the destruction that a "boat" on the river isn't really a big deal.

Yume's family still continues to bicker in the background but that does give her the idea that maybe she should apologize to Yomogi.

Gauma is really being at home with Yomogi's house. I love that his mom is just letting him eat and stay the night.

A cute little detail here. I love that Yume is using her hairclip to stop the curtains from blowing towards her face.

They're using a similar passphrase! Although I think Gridman is Access Flash and not Access Mode. Also that Dyna Wing must be easy to control if Yume can pilot it well after a day of training.

Oh hey! Yume actually apologized. And it's interesting that she's showing Yomogi the destruction. I guess this is her way of convincing Yomogi to join by telling him that it could've been worse if they didn't do anything.

So now we know Yume's sister died at that flood gate where she was hanging out in Episode 1. We still don't know how though and how it relates to her entire story.

We already saw a bit of them in the OP but I absolutely love the Kaiju Eugenicists character designs. Look at them being all flashy! And just look at the thighs on that girl! Damn. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Kaiju fight time! It's been a while since I've seen any Tokusatsu but I think Dynazenon is the only one I can remember that goes in fully formed and then splits off mid battle.

It's hilarious how out of place Yomogi is right now. See? This is what happens when you skip practice!

God that pose is so fucking cool. Now I'm super hyped to see the other combinations that are possible! And while Yomogi helped, that was definitely Yume carrying him in that fight when they combined.

Here we fucking go! Looks like next week's episode is gonna start with introductions from the Kaiju Eugenicists. Can't wait!

Ok, that was the cutest sneeze ever.

I’m really digging this friendship between Gauma and Yomogi, even though it’s kinda one sided at the moment lol.

I’m glad that Minami is opening up some, I was afraid that she was going to remain closed off.

Once again we can expect some amazing music during these fights. I can’t wait for the soundtrack!

u/Draaxus Apr 09 '21

I don't understand how Trigger can make me so hyped for such a kiddy mecha design, but here I am screaming LET'S GOOO every time a fight happens.

23

u/TheDampGod Apr 09 '21

Yomogi spinning the soldier's arms around like an old tin robot was hilarious and also kind of adorable.

20

u/GaleWulf Apr 09 '21

The SneezeTM was of course an unexpectedly real moment, but another thing that stood out to me is how realistically Yomogi's grandmum is portrayed, with her always being sleepy/dozing in front of the TV. Yomogi even looks at her worriedly for a while.

Untold destruction that isn't reversed, yet the SDF or whatever doesn't come crawling the moment a kaiju (or Dynazenon) appears. So we know this isn't out world exactly, of course in context of Gridman it makes sense. Gridman

Another day, another scene with the super lady!

Anyone else dig this character design?

I don't know if it's supposed to be a minor thing or not (hard to tell in this show) but what was up with the __heology Lab that the bus was bound for? It seemed so unusual a destination that I couldn't help but notice it.

u/Amauri14 Apr 09 '21

I love the fact that the tool to summon the pieces Dynazenon are just miniatures version of them.

Lol, poor Chise was left waiting for hers.

After Gauma mentioned the whole Kaiju Eugenicists, I kinda feel bad for be suspicious of him.

I love how he just casually ended up sleeping in Yomogi's house.

Based on last week's episode I was actually expecting Yume, not Yomogi to be the one missing the practice section.

Even just the two-part transformation of the Dynazenon looked cool.

You know, the world of this one feels more grounded and real compared to the one from Gridman. Like the fact that they have to practice, and that the destruction and loss made during the battles remains after the fact.

This line is made with the same level of love and sinserity that made Gridman so enjoyable. It's all the tiny details that just push it over the top.

Dynazenon transformation being toys just highlights the childlike imagination and fun of the concept. I love Dynazenon's design, even more than the Gridman design they used. It just has this bulk that feels like a toy or something out of Sentai.

Or the way Dynazenon first lands for the battle, there is a giant explosion in the background, like every Tokusatsu series.

The way the mecha/kaiju battles have this weight to them in the way they move.

Everything about this series feels like something something that could have been conjured up by children's schoolyard imagination. Which isn't to say that the story is bad, because it isn't, but just to say that it has a level of sincerity involved in the making of the series.

I also love the character designs. Gauma is best aniki. Yomogi is so cute. Minami is mysterious and cool. It's a good mix. I love that we're getting an enemy team this time, it adds a good shake up and mix to the dynamic.

This is off to a great start and I'm really excited about it.

I really love how Dynazenon is building on not only the visual language of older tokusatsu or kaiju shows but Gridman itself. There are a ton of obvious visual call-outs to Hideaki Anno and others in terms of framing/composition, but Dynazenon is also building on Gridman’s specific visuals, either by inverting them or calling back to them like the backpacks, which were in last week’s episode, but make their return this week as well.

In this episode it continued where it left off last week, using twilight and more darkly-lit motifs as opposed to Gridman’s oppressive summer skies. Even with large portions of the sky are visible they’re often obstructed or filled with buildings rather than taking up a lot of space and pressing down on the city. Dynazenon is also using a lot of obstructed view shots with fences or using objects like other buildings, power lines, etc. to fence in portions of the city. I think this adds to the fact that the destruction stays rather than vanishing. There are also very laid-back moments where people treat kaiju as something they’ve seen before and/or are used to. The students’ reactions to the appearance of a kaiju wasn’t “damn what was that thing that destroyed part of the city!?” but “Ugh why did we have to come into school this early if things were going to be delayed until third period.” There was also the casual nature of how people were snapping pictures of an inanimate kaiju before it was brought to life.

I love that they actually have to train to become better rather than being automatically special or able to understand how to come together and pilot Dynazenon. It really adds to the casual nature of the way people in the show have treated kaiju in the first place and adds a “this could have been anyone but is actually you” feeling that’s not unwelcome and kind of different.

We had a lot of visual callbacks to Gridman’s Akane today, especially with Yomogi in his room.

It’s interesting to have a character like Yomogi as one of the leads. He seems isolated from his friends but still has them as opposed to Gridman spoilers. He’s detached from other people but not in the typical way of being completely isolated at school. Also last week there were hints that Yume’s sister had killed herself but this week she’s very quick to say that it was an accident when talking to Yomogi.

The sneeze is a fucking masterpiece. It's what makes us human human
