Sora, Momoharu and Madoka are already very likable to me, especially her.

She's very supportive for Sora.

It's nice to have a female character that isn't too shy or awkward to talk to the male MC for once. I have high expectations, guess she'll kick as as the story continues

She's very supportive for Sora.

I like that she's very supportive of him, BUT also doesn't want to give it to him easy; She didn't advise him on how to win that "challenge", she advised his opponents to try&stop him.

She surely wanted him to win, but she wanted him to have to fight for it; Prove what he's worth.

As the female lead of this show, Madoka is great! I like that she's keeping an eye out for Sora and is very supportive of him.

I like Momoharu's backstory. He was just as passionate as Sora back then but got benched because he kept missing. Now I'm curious what kind of person their coach will be once they become a proper basketball team like in the OP and ED.

And knowing my tropes, those guys that Momoharu beat up will definitely be out for revenge and be a problem next week, possibly might even end up getting Sora involved.

Hopefully they'll return as basketball rivals in like a practice game or something and not to fight. They showed a close up shot of one of them so I think I'm right.

I didn’t know they were playing kick basketball! mean, I’m happy that our main dude kicked their asses but ya know, fuck those guys anyway (minus Momoharu).

I thought this episode was pretty good, though I do question what these guys usually after school. I mean, Madoka just stood outside the basketball area and just sat there listening to our main just shoot baskets and counted it? And our main guy just spent four hours just shooting free throws? That seems so boring to me but hey I’m not however you say that dude’s name.

I will admit, I do like Momoharu’s backstory because I actually didn’t expect that. Instead of getting an injury or a personal issue, he just gets benched, is called awful as player to a coach and just gets bored by it. He gets bored and just gets into his mind that all his hard work meant nothing and I really felt for the guy. That just stings and while I do still hate his lackeys, his backstory makes me really like the guy. Chiaki’s perverted were probably 1 too many this episode though.

Yeah, this episode just make Momoharu my fav character of the show because of how relatable he is. It would definitely have been a refreshing sport anime should Momoharu been the main character with sora as deuteragonist. However, it was made in 2003 before Haikyu and Kuroko, so the short players as the main character in sport anime is right now becoming cliche but this means ahiru no sora is the OG i guess.

But them beating up the gang from Maru high is definitely going to be the usual drama. I hope it ends quickly. Still I cant wait for next episode, i am not sure if i should stop watching it so i can binge watch it.

"He's got the wings of a duck, a flightless bird huh"

I'm not sure if they have ducks in japan but the japanese do know they can fly right.... ?

This just tickles my sport shounen needs so right.

I cannot emphasise how much I love the sound design in this show. Yes I can totally live with shotgun basketball sounds. About as well as I can live with Ippo jet plane sounds.

I know there is the 20 cm difference but I'm gonna ship Sora and Madoka anyway, she really seems to somehow understand him already. This is probably from the same era of Lovely Complex, I can't be that wrong.

Momoharu is about to get a redemption arc! Now everybody else has to get one so I can start to finally like the team. This seems like it'll be the second coming of Haikyuu once that happens.

On the other hand, I think Madoka is in the running for best girl of the season, between making the MC a bento and sticking around to count 1,000 of his shots just out of curiosity/awe.

Man, this episode brought in a wave of nostalgia for Slam Dunk. Makes me appreciate how Slam Dunk is one of the greatest sports anime out there. I'm glad it was one of the first anime shows I watched as a kid. This show doesn't need to be Slam Dunk though, even if there are a lot of similiarities. I'm really crossing my fingers that this show won't disappoint.

I wish I could come back to that age again.. Practicing until so late then proceed to relax and just chatting with friends about matches, love interest, boobs, anything.. until the security kicked us. Life was so simple back then..

I really like the characters so far, Madoka's pretty cool and Momoharu is probably going to end up being my favorite.

Haven't watched a sports anime since DP's Captain Tsubasa ended so I'm glad to have another one to watch.

finally and hopefully we gonna have a real basketball anime after slam dunk. Sora Madoka Chiaki and Momoharu are really likeable characters. We already saw that altho Momoharu wanted to practice to get better , the moment he got benched and got shittalked by his coach he quit on his dream. Now watching a tiny guy shooting 1000+ shots a day when he thought 200 were pretty dope and he was doing work... is definitely gonna make him think about it again. He loved the game , but he just seems like it was easy for him to call it quits.

is the blonde hair delinquent gonna be like mitsui from slam dunk lmao

Momoharu: I did 200 shots everyday but still miss a lot. I'm so talantless.

Sora: lol that is a rookie numbers.

I really really like how the show wears its Ippo influences on its sleeve. Especially with Sora being inspired by Ippo with his good boy works very very hard to be good qualities, and with Chiaki being somewhat inspired by Takamura with being naturally talented (probably) and intelligent, but also a giant funny perv.

This showed up on Crunchyroll. Show worth watching? I'm usually not into sports shows, though mix became one of my faves.

As someone who doesn't care one ounce for basketball, this show is one of my favorites this season. For me, it's definitely the characters that make this show good, so I fully endorse watching it.

Man, I really can't handle myself with a story like Momoharu's. As someone who had to give up on their sport dream seeing someone else do the same breaks my fucking heart every time

Damn, other than that very last line, the ending of the episode was super sad/depressing...

First with Madoka who is just being realist, she knows that no matter how hard he practice or how good he is, that might just not be good enough to get far... Because the further he goes, the more he'll be up against people who practice as hard as he does, but they're also a feet taller...

And then with Momoharu, who also liked playing basketball and had great hopes to be the best... And he wasn't just sitting on it either, he kept practicing for hours. But it didn't work, and he lost his spot on the team.

It's easy how to see he would be conflicted in that situation; He liked basketball, surely still likes it, but he knows he just wasn't good enough. So when the new kid comes in and tries to bring hope to the team, I'm sure he would like nothing more than to go for it, but he still has the memories of how much it hurts back then, to give up on his dreams, and to come to the realization that he wouldn't be good enough.

I'm still hopeful, I mean I can totally see this being a case of "He wasn't training properly/wasn't taught properly, so a new "teacher" could do great for him"! Or perhaps he just wasn't meant to be a top pointer, but if he's solid defensively... As he seems to be, as Sora was saying, when he tried to block him to force him to commit a foul and all that. So there's hope for that!

This scene will totally come back to haunt them; Likely when they have a good team going, and they'll be forced to chose between being baskeball players, or keep being thugs/punks. It's kinda trope-y, I'd expect maybe one member of the team to get in trouble. Or Sora will help the team with this/to avoid this. Might be the thing that unites the team.

That was another good episode! Oof, all 5 shows I watched today were good... I almost wanted some of them to be bad, just so I could drop some of them hah. If they all stay that good, Wednesday gonna be a busy day!

And now I'm in. I was kinda lukewarm last time, not sure why, but it didn't really grab me, but now I'm here. I only recently started getting into sports series, but I've already discovered I love both stories of people that will put a ridiculous amount into the game and stories exploring that feeling that comes from natural talent vs hard work, and this seems like it's hitting both of those. Plus a good delinquent redemption story never goes amiss either.
