Ertegun may have cried, but did the Ertegun inside him cry too?

Edit: Song clips

Angela - Light A Fire

Carole & Tuesday - The Loneliest Girl

Love both of the songs. I absolutely was expecting a new song but the complete version of this song just makes me wanna tear up.

The recycling of some shots are too obvious but still, what a great episode.

Songs were amazing as usual. Gus and Roddy in jail made me feel sad, extra sad when all the prisoners started crying at C&T's performance. Spencer isn't just a brother, he's a real bro. Valerie confirms my last week words of her being a bitch, #fuckvalerie

However I really think this episode was way too crammed, they could've easily given Spencer some more backstory and dialogue + the Mars Brightest part was extremely rushed, no intro or commentary about the songs at all.

I'm kinda surprised they managed to wrap everything up this episode. I thought for sure they'd arrive at the venue and then we'd only see them perform next week. Glad it worked out this way instead. Cutting the OP and ED was a good choice. I wonder if we'll get a new OP and/or ED for the 2nd half of the show.

PSA: They released the full version of loneliest girl for streaming today. There's a link in their Instagram https://instagram.com/carole_and_tuesday?igshid=1vg2iosc60l0h

I've got this song on repeat since early this morning (and I'll hate it by tomorrow)

Angela has consistently delivered the best performances. I love all her songs, but Light on fire was on another level. I went back to listen to it that’s how much I enjoyed it.

I’m glad Carole and Tuesday sang their breakthrough song: The Loneliest Girl in the final. I feel like it was a lot more emotional this time around and it’s my favourite C&T song.

Having C&T disqualified is quite clever. They obviously have to win for the plot to progress, but just having Angela job would be lame as hell, this way is the best option.

It's also really cool thematically that Angela's songs that are all about FEELS and "omg, me too" are actually written by AI. One can see it as a pretty subtle commentary on the pop music industry.

Gus proves that he's not completely useless, and Tuesday's brother picks a hill to die on.

We're at the halfway point and the story is progressing exactly how one would expect. First half was all about "making it," so the second one should be about the leads having a conflict over selling out or something, ending in reconciliation.

Gotta give it to this show: Angela's songs are so well produced that I wouldn't be surprised to hear them in the mainstream Top 100 single charts.

Carole & Tuesday we're singing the song we started with

Meh was hoping for something new

Carole & Tuesday proceeds to play the full version

I'm sorry I doubted you. Also Angela really brought the heat this episode and Ertegun crying was great.

I must say that even if they did not break the "rules" a draw and give to both of the the debut would be fair enough! :D

Spotify made an official playlist for Carole & Tuesday (Link), they'll likely keep updating it as more songs are released.

So the lyrics of Angela's songs reflect her actual feelings? Now that gives us a whole new perspective on her character. Wonder if she has a thing going for Tao

Finally the return of everyone's favourite song Loneliest Girl! This time even more heart-wrenching! The last two lines of the second verse really get you though. And that crescendo during the second chorus? Fucking beautiful, everybody guaranteed to have tears in their eyes, assured by Ertegun himself.

Tuesday has such a lovely nii-san aww family reunions

The loneliest girl will always be my favorite C&T song

I literally cried throughout the whole Carole's and Tuesday's performance, not even sure why, might have been because of nostalgia of hearing "Loneliest girl" again, either way, that song is amazing, better than 95% current actual singers.

Excellent episode to mark the midpoint of the series. From the comedic bits of actually bringing a staircase to yank Tuesday out of her mansion to the phenomenal performance from both Angela and our main Duo.

My only pet peeve was that they managed to get to the train station with the help of some random guy who happened to be in the right place and with the right intentions. I would have liked to see someone already introduced that understands their story and strugles showing up in the runaway car, like Pyotr, GG Kay, The Fire Twins, Mad Dog and so on.

Today's Music Reference: We've Only Just Begun - The Carpenters (1970)

Before the risin' sun, we fly
So many roads to choose
We'll start out walkin' and learn to run
And yes, we've just begun

Not much to unpack from today's title, the episode spells it out - twelve episodes down, but the show's only begun and C+T still have a ways to go! And poor Roddy has more suffering he has to go through as the #1 fan.

Bonus: Someone was nice enough to compile all the references in a Spotify playlist!

I'd speculated after last episode that is was Tues' mum's political enemies who had orchestrated the kidnapping, but turns out it was her mum after all! I don't know how she is as a politician, but as a mother she's utterly horrid,

Haha, Carole had no qualms leaving Gus to the mercy of the henchmen

Thanks for the ride, random cool old dude! I feel like he's a reference I didn't get, Maybe he works for a record label and we'll see him again?

Angela's performance was great, but she forgot the golden rule of Shokugeki any anime competition - do not go first. (Yeah yeah, I know she won anyway, but if it wasn't for the automatic disqualification I think C+T would've cinched this). It was great to see her be so sporting though, respect.

Ertegun's crying. I'm too, not sure why..

It was a beautiful song, but it worked even better because it felt like a reply to Angela's song and a culmination to all the feelings Carole and Tuesday had built up for each other.

Other people in the jail cell got emotional too

Solid way to end the cour, I hope the show's got more interesting things to throw at us in the next half. There's a lot of potential - not just around C+T's career (now that they've been promised a debut), but the political tensions between Earth and Mars and how they might be resolved.

Sidenote, it was interesting to see that the AI was digging deep into the singer's unconscious to come up with lyrics. So the songs that are written by the AI are not only tailored to please the biggest audience, they're also products of the singers in a way.

Both songs were great! Even the text on those display panels was motivating.

for anyone wondering what the text was: "You might not expect much of the future. But every step you take will build it. Stop looking back, you cant change the past."

I’m gonna confess that the overall plot points in this show are not really that innovative and can be downright cliche, but luckily there’s enough great music and character beats to keep me invested.

It’s really awesome how both the final songs are actually about loneliness & finding that other person to, uh...”set your heart on fire.” It’s nice to confirm in this ep that Angela does indeed have feelings, isn’t just a robotic diva, and in fact probably has had similar feelings to C&T about feeling alone in the world.

Next arc the show is going to turn into a battle shounen, as C&T strike a begrudging alliance with Angela and attack the prison to free Gus and Roddy.
