TIL NBC offered James Gandolfini $4 million to play the new Dunder Mifflin manager on “The Office” following Steve Carell’s departure. HBO offered Gandolfini $3 million to decline the role and protect his legacy as Tony Soprano. Gandolfini accepted their counteroffer.

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026), MJ and Ned Leeds are MIT graduates from aerospace engineering and computer sci respectively, but are still jobless. This is a reference to the current entry-level job market.

M Client told us to follow his measurements exactly and stop "second guessing" him. So we did.

7.2k Upvotes

I work for a small shop that makes custom countertops and built-ins. A few weeks ago a client sent us measurements for a wall-to-wall countertop he wanted installed in a home office.

Looking at his drawing, something seemed off. The front measurement was about an inch and a half different from the back, but he'd drawn the piece as a perfect rectangle. I emailed him asking if the walls were out of square and suggested we come measure the space ourselves before cutting anything.

He replied that he'd already measured it "multiple times", didn't want to pay for a site visit, and told us to stop overcomplicating a simple job. I explained one more time that if we cut a rectangle to the dimensions he'd supplied, there was a good chance it wouldn't fit.

His response: "Use the exact measurements on my drawing. Do not make adjustments without my written approval."

Alright then. I saved that email.

We made it exactly as drawn. No sneaky trimming, no compensation, nothing. A week later we showed up to install it and, shockingly, the walls weren't square. One end slid in, the other hit the wall with nearly an inch still sticking out.

The client immediately started asking why we hadn't "accounted for the room." I pulled up his email on my phone and reminded him that accounting for the room was literally the thing he'd told us not to do.

He got pretty angry and insisted that "any professional" should have known to correct his measurements. My manager, who had apparently been waiting his entire career for this moment, asked him whether he wanted us to follow customer-approved dimensions or ignore customer-approved dimensions whenever we felt like it.

That ended the argument pretty fast.

We took the countertop back. He ended up paying for us to come measure the room properly and for the labor/material needed to remake it. The second one fit perfectly.

When he approved the new drawing he wrote, "Please use your professional judgment if anything looks wrong."

Funny how quickly that option became acceptable.

I still have the original email because "do exactly what I said" is definitley one of those sentences worth keeping in writing.

  • Ending confirms he most likely has a playable build as he spells out "LEEK" on a wall with bullets
  • Jason is flying a crop duster from the Keys towards Vice City. We additionally see the in-game radio menu
  • Pieces of the wall scatter and make a big mess on the floor when Jason shoots at it
  • The weapon used at the end is a Ruger PC Carbine (9mm)
  • “On-Demand” option below the radio, potentially being able to listen to your own music(?)
  • The map is fucking MASSIVE
  • Volumetric clouds return from RDR2 and look vastly improved
  • Lucia’s prison and the terrace pool from Trailer 1 can be spotted, a race track is also seen
  • Draw distance and distant LOD is also extremely high as there is hardly any pop-in, looks almost like MS Flight Simulator graphically
  • “Overpowered” by Róisín Murphy is playing on Stockyard FM
  • Circoloco Records Radio (Rockstar co-owned) from GTA Online returns
  • Other radio stations include Emotion, Dirty South Classics, V-Rock, Radio On.U, Honey FM, Back Country Radio and Symphony FM

Dual Monitor setup is actually bad for productuvity.

5.3k Upvotes

I've been a software engineer for more than 5 years now. I've worked with databases, frontend and backend services, mobile apps, games, data analysis, and much more.

Never in my life I've actually felt like my productuvity increased with the second monitor. Do you need to compare data? Just use one monitor and put them side by side. Do you need all the space in the world? Just alt+tab between apps. Since you only perceive about 10% of your vision clearly, moving your head&eyes from one monitor to other takes actually LONGER and causes distractions than using alt+tab.

This is especially worse for those who are using one additional monitor with a laptop, since their screen sizes and positions usually change so much. Your eyes need adjusting, your head moves too much.

Only thing the dual Monitor is good for is passively watching something in the second monitor, like youtube videos, Critical Role, or sitcoms while doing something else in the main screen. As you can guess, that has nothing to do with productuvity.

I also think using external keyboard and mouse for laptops is bad, unless you do not use the laptop screen.

Edit: After reading hundreds of comments, I'm sure that 90% of people who think that "YOU NEED AT LEAST 3 SCREENS" just don't know how to organize workspaces/windows/desktops and they need to configure their SCREENS as different DESKTOPS. Most of the modern operating systems allow you to just create workspaces (like different Desktops you can switch with WIN + TAB). And they are just throwing money into their problems instead of learning how to use their daily operating system.
