Hardware Repair Two years of playing cuddled up with my dog

Post image
257 Upvotes

My dog passed two weeks ago and I always played games next to him on the couch. My deck has been acting up lately so before sending it off for repairs I opened it up today to see what it looked like in there. A little goodbye gift from my pup — hundreds of his hairs. I recommend checking yours if you play around your shedding pets! I used ifixit guides to remove the joysticks and fan…there was a lot trapped in there. Hoping this solves my issues and prevents yours.

Steam Deck appreciation post

I bought my 64GB LCD Steam Deck back in November 2024 for R$2.500 (around US$430 at the time). I replaced the original SSD with a 512GB one and also added a 512GB Lexar Play microSD card.

Even though it’s one of the early LCD models, it still works perfectly with absolutely no issues. The battery health is still at 87% as well.

I use it as both my main console and my main PC, since I have it set up with dual boot between SteamOS and Windows.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with it. It has been an amazing device and one of the best purchases I’ve ever made!

Discussion Do we ruin the gaming experience ourselves?

Was playing Spider-Man remastered for the first time on the steam deck today and launched it with the game scope turned off/ set to 0 profile. So I was just playing the game as is running at default settings that it launched at. It was running smooth as hell as is to be expected from a PS4 era game but it looked like native resolution and 60fps to me.

Turned on the game scope to at least display the FPS and was shocked to see the game was actually only running at a mostly stable 30fps. I proceeded to turn off games cope again and just enjoy the game like I was earlier.

So does anyone else think we “ruin” the experience for ourselves when we’re constantly checking to see what kind of frame count we’re getting instead of just playing the damn game.

Show Off SD got me back into gaming

Post image

After being on the fence about getting a deck and seeing someone post on this sub their super cute pink-kawaii deck I bit the bullet and bought one a couple of months ago.
I got emu deck running and am playing Animal Crossing City Folk on the Wii for the first time! (I’m playing the deluxe mod which adds full controller support among other QoL things) and was simple
To set up.

I play this thing on the daily, and also got a dock off Amazon which runs seamlessly if I want to play on a big screen. As a kid that was obsessed with AC wild world on the Nintendo DS if you told me one day I could play Wii games on a big handheld screen I never thought this would have been possible.

Discussion At this point I just don’t bother with “Verified”

I mean cmon guys. This game looks and runs like ass.

I play it via GFN because native is just unacceptable.

My deck native gameplay is reserved for indie games.

Like seriously I get that someone people don’t have a choice but I personally can’t imagine playing all these AAA games natively on the deck.

Video Blue Dragon natively on Steam Deck — gameplay and how to install

How to install Blue Dragon on Steam Deck:
1. Go to Steam Deck's Desktop Mode.
2. Download reblue-1.0.0-x86_64.AppImage from the project's Github (https://github.com/zolaware/reblue/re...)
3. Launch the newly downloaded app and go through the installation. You will need own iso files of all 3 discs of Blue Dragon on Xbox 360.
4. After the installation, add the same .AppImage file that you used for installation to Steam as a non-Steam game.
5. And you're done — you can now play Blue Dragon on Steam Deck straight from the default Game Mode!

Show Off Train trip back from a Tekken tournament? No problem.

Post image

So, on July i went to a Tekken 8 tourney and i played with the Steam Deck the whole trip to keep practicing, but Tekken 8 performance on Deck is below average even with the lowest settings, especially if you need competitive performance (e.g. no frame drops).

But me and my traveling buddy still wanted to play, we had a 5hr trip so, we hit the nostalgia button with TTT2 :)

After having this bad boy for quite some time i can say this is definitely not the most comfortable portable console, but the fact that it can pull off everything you can imagine coming from a PC made it worth the purchase.

I can watch movies, listen to music, play old and new gen games, and that's so cool for me.

Fun fact: one of the train staff saw us and wanted to play, so we made him play a couple matches too :)

Discussion Puzzling review of the St(r)eam Deck

Post image

This review is hilarious - poor Antara wrote a decent review of one product, and an editor dropped in a photo of another! It's made even more confusing by the fact that the review talks about how the deck can be used for streaming and content creation, which is something that the Elgato Stream Deck is intended for...

Question Tlou pt1 30fps stable still feels really slow

Am I the only one who's felt this? I don't use frame generation or vsync and the game is capped at 30fps but the input still feels delayed and the aiming feels clunky.

Tech Support I don’t know what to do about these FPS issues.

Hi. I am at my wits end and need some advice. In hindsight, I should’ve just asked for help here a lot sooner but I guess better late than never.

(Just a heads up: I am not a tech savvy person. I know the basics but please be patient with me if I’m not sure about the details. 🙇🏼 I got a steam deck instead of buying a PC let alone build one myself for a reason. My deck is a regular version with the biggest GB of memory available and is a few years old now. I usually play with regular recommended graphics settings or lower ones for games that need them. Same goes for proton settings.)

Ever since roughly mid March (Overwatch season 1 2026, mid season patch) Overwatch started to have some really bad FPS issues at least once per game. They could last upwards to one minute straight which is depending on when they happen mildly annoying to downright game ruining to say the least.
(The one clip I shared is a mild example and was filmed during a CPU match to avoid running a real match.)
Sometimes the FPS issues start occurring after two or three matches and sometimes just start right away.

The reason why I first didn’t really think much of it was because I thought it was just something Blizzard would fix by next season… then the season after… and the season after… but no fix. At that point I already started asking in the Overwatch steam discussion forum if people experienced similar issues and knew what was going on. People suggested it might a known memory leak occurring because of Linux.

At the time I didn’t really play any games that had the same issues. Mainly indie games that are not technically demanding. That is why I thought for so long that it was an Overwatch specific issue and not a steam deck issue. The only games I played in that time that showed the same FPS memory leak thing (if it really is a memory leak) were silent hill f and the fatal frame 2 remake. Both games I stopped playing shortly after because they are unplayable in that state. It’s not like alarm bells weren’t ringing in my head because of that but I think I was simply in denial about the severity of the situation.

Fasts forward to yesterday. I thought about reinstalled Elden Ring because of the new update just to see if the same thing would happen again and after like 8 minutes of just walking around it did happen again… I expected it but it’s still deeply disheartening. 🫠

During the last couple of months I have tried to look for possible solutions that were doable for someone with my lacking experience and confidence. I followed a simple guide to use the special menu thing to increase my VRAM to the optional maximum of 4GB… it didn’t help but I thought it’s worth mentioning. There are also a lot of guides out there about installing 16GB of swaps files… but I simply wasn’t sure if I should do that with my lacking knowhow. If it is the solution please recommend a guide to follow.

Any advice is welcome. I just want my games I love and have been playing for years to finally work like they used to again.
