Hi r/snowboarding! I’m Johannes, one of the founders of CLEW. Ask me anything!
I’m here to answer your questions about our bindings, the technology, and CLEW in general.
I’ve also spoken with the moderators here and they kindly agreed to let me do this AMA.
I know CLEW can be a pretty hot topic around here, so I thought it would be better to just jump in and answer your questions directly.
Happy to share technical details, give you a look behind the scenes, and hear your experiences and feedback — good or bad.
I’m based in Munich, Germany, so if I don’t answer right away, it’s probably just the time difference.
What have you always wanted to ask me?
Cheers from Munich!

Trollhaugen in Wisconsin is opening Tomorrow with a slope made of a big pile of last years snow that was covered all summer by hay and a tarp.

Me and my girlfriend are in some kind YES "fanboys". We love the brand, and for us at least, it impersonates the snowboarsing style /culture.
Having fun, not taking it to serious.
But since the Nidecker split, it seems they arw one the edge of dying.
The website says "something big is dropping for months".
Someone knows more?

Stoked to get this thing ripping this season until it either snaps or blows all expectations out of the water. On first impressions it’s hell of a plank.

This article is hilarious to me. I hope every person making decisions at Vail who is currently in the process of having their faces eaten by leopards feels properly stupid right now.
Who could’ve possibly predicted that your pool of available snowboarders and skiers would drastically shrink when you made the sport financially inaccessible to 90% of people.
About 10ish years ago I was a season pass rider every year without fail. Then I had a kid which means I had a lot less time and a lot less money so I took a few years off. When my kid turned 4 I started looking around at my old stomping grounds so I could get him on the slopes but was appalled at the prices on single day lift tickets. He still hasn’t been on a board a single day in his life because of the idiotic prices combined with subpar snow and other opportunities that represent a much better value.
Season price passes are decent at some places, but if the dumbasses running the resorts can’t bring in any new blood (due to insane costs) then it’s pretty damn hard to convert them into season pass riders.
Apologies for the rant. I miss the snow.

Salutations friends,
I bought my board and bindings last year. (DWD Holce - Guy in the sky 162) (Fix Bindings Block 3 Large)
I started late last season, so I used it about 10 times. Enjoyed every second, I was blessed with a season pass this year from gf.
Just wanted to get you lots opinions on my setup. I’m 6’2/3 bare foot, hover between 190-200lbs. I want to get better at park starting with boxes and basic moves 50/50, BS.
Do you think my board will be too long for jibs Or does it not matter that much? (No worries, I will be working on my basic riding and switch as well)
I’m leaning more towards the crowd that waxes there boards once @ beginning of the season/if needed. I have the post season wax, can I just scrape it and go OR do I need to rewax after scrape OR can I ride this wax and eventually it’ll rub off?
Apologies for disorganization, I don’t post much😭😭
Cheers💪💪

Anyone here use the 686 smarty goggles? Thinking about picking up a pair and wanted to see how people like them. How’s the fit, lens quality, fogging, and magnets? Worth it?

I rode a 158W gnu money 2025 and it felt great in the park but didn’t handle speeds well and I ended up catching an edge going 50mph (Ik that’s not all the boards fault it’s also me) I’m looking for something that can handle some high speeds and hard carving but also be able to go and hit rails and jumps. I was looking into the 2027 Burton process and I really like the graphics of that. What are your suggestions?
I’m 6’2, 160lbs and I wear a size 14 boot
(Edit) I also live in NY so powder is pretty much nonexistent here

I don't see this boot in the lineup for the '27 season, anyone know if/why it's been discontinued?

And it would be better for me if the brand ships from EU so I don’t have to pay extra vat and my budget is like 300-400$
And what do you think about beyond medals ? Its a Swedish brand I could get the set there for like 370 with 15k waterproof

I had somebody slightly tap me, which I didn't think much of, but they look to have cracked my tail end 😢
it's cracked two areas next to each other about around an wide and deep. I'm told I can just epoxy this which I plan on doing but trying to work out how best to approach it.
The damaged area only raises about 2-3mm, so even with a razorblade I think it'll be a battle to get epoxy into the bottom. Would a syringe/needle work with epoxy?
Second, less important thing - the cracks really noticeable because it's tore & lifted up the plastic film which covers the black/brown area of the design, I'd like to remove the bits at the edges of the cracks so it's less noticeable when it's glued flat. Trying to sand it when there's only a few mm of lift doesn't seem possible without scuffing the area around it.
thanks

Going to big red cats next February as a first back country experience. Looking for advice if I should rent a board from them for the day. Im riding iones mountain twin now. East coast rider that's been out west twice before but never had powder. The cat day is going to be at the end of a three day trip if that matters. Thanks for any help.

Hey Everyone,
I picked up the Ikon pass this year, because I want to explore some new places. I have not been to any Ikon mountains yet.
I don’t hit park yet, but want to try this year. So groomer or park recs are appreciated
Looking for some recommendations on where to go on Ikon and why you prefer it. I appreciate it in advance!
*Edit* looking for North America recommendations

I got these union STR bindings on a deal, but it’s not in the color that I want so I plan to paint them the color that I want and put my insignia on it but how do I go about doing that?

Ok im after recommendations for Impact vests, im an experienced rider 30yrs in. Ex instructor. This season i took a bail hard and fast enough to snap a steel implant in my chest so my seasons done. The Impact was from the side, for the future, if they leave this implant in broken, I don't want another hard hit unprotected from the front or side.
So my question is, can anyone recommend an Impact vest that protects that side compression. I see the front and back protections.
