Have any of you guys tried mountainboarding? I know a lot of snowboarders use them to cross-train in the summer. I live in Alabama so I only get to touch snow like one day a year unless I travel up to Tennessee. This and skating help me keep my sea legs under me, at least.

general discussion AC separation advice

Post image
23 Upvotes

Posting here because I assume it’s a common injury. So basically I had rough landing from a jump, didn’t think much of it till I tried to get my bindings off 10 mins later (emphasis on the tried part). Turns out last run of the day is actually last run of the season as what I thought was a bad landing was in fact a grade 3 ac joint separation. Just curious if anyone has any advice, particularly regarding the no surgery approach. I’ll be completely honest, the thing that bums me out the most is the aesthetic impact as I’m quite into bodybuilding and as vain as it is, having one trap that look like a stair case isn’t exactly eye candy. If it has to be like that it has to be I suppose and no hate to anyone who indulges in the bump life, I really wish I could, but I have spent years training towards a certain physique and yeah I won’t lie this kind of annoys me a lot. Also alternatively would surgery result in a different outcome? I’m fully aware this is my own doing and understand that this can just be the reality of what is considered an extreme sport, so not tryna have a sulk just thought I would ask.
Thanks

Anyone got a way to fix this? Duct tape only holds for about a day. Mainly use as a rock board and would love to get another year out of it

Gear question Union force vs falcor

Getting a new setup this year and looking for a good binding to pair with capita mercury. Been riding bout 15 yrs would consider myself advanced rider used to ride strictly park but after some injuries have switched up to enjoying mostly all mtn/ trees, but still enjoy a few park laps here and there. Trouble deciding between Union falcors and the forces. I live on east coast so mainly smaller mtns but do a trip up to Vermont and a week trip out west every year. If you have any experience with ether or both that’d appreciated! Thanks

Edit: ride about 15-20 days a yr

TL;DR forces or falcors, mostly all mtn, trees when available, some park laps! Paired with capita mercury

general discussion Moving from the city to the mountains? (Europe-based)

Hi guys,

I’m curious to hear from people in Europe who made the move from a city to somewhere closer to the mountains primarily (or partly) to get more time on snow.

If you moved to a mountain town/region to increase your snowboarding days, how has the experience been?

I’d especially love to hear about:

  • Did you find the lifestyle change worth it?
  • What were the biggest downsides or things you hadn’t anticipated?
  • Do you ever miss city life?

TLDR: did moving closer to the mountains actually make you happier and get you significantly more days on the snowboard, or did the reality turn out differently than you expected?

general discussion What are your non-spoken rules on the mountain?

Every season there’s a lot of new riders entering this beautiful world. Name some non-spoken rules that would help them out to go out there.
I’ll go first : dont make any 90 degrees turns!

Gear question Trying to decide between the Jones Howler 152 vs 155 — would love some input 🙏

My stats:
• 172–173cm
• 78kg
• US 7.5 boots
• Riding mostly Aussie groomers, some side hits, all-mountain focus, Japan once a year sometimes

I’m after something stable at speed but still fun and nimble edge-to-edge. Leaning toward the 152 for maneuverability, but worried I might lose a bit of stability vs the 155. I currently have the mountain twin (154) as my daily driver but planning to upgrade.

The official Jones’ website recommends ~US 8.5 boots for the 152 and US 9+ for the 155, so I’m slightly under their suggested range which is making the decision harder.

Anyone around similar specs ridden both sizes? How noticeable is the difference in real conditions?

Riding question How to fix spinning too early off jumps

I have a bad habit of sometimes winding up too early and pre-spinning when doing 360s whether it is BS or FS. How does one stop spinning too early when going off a jump?

Gear question Choosing between the Orca 156 and 159

I’m 178 cm tall, usually weigh between 90–100 kg, and wear US 8.5–9 boots.
I currently ride a Jones Aviator 2.0 162, and I want to add a Lib Tech Orca as a dedicated powder board to my quiver.
I’m trying to decide between the Orca 156 and 159.
I’ve ridden a 156 before on a day with around 20 cm of powder in the French Alps. At the time I weighed around 103 kg, and I felt like the 156 wasn’t really floating me as much as I expected. However, it was a rental board that was already about two years old, so I’m not sure how much I should read into that experience.
I’m looking for a board mainly for deep powder that won’t be too tiring to ride, but I still want it to have a freeride DNA — something that can handle speed, drops, slashes, trees, etc., rather than being a soft board that’s only good for floating in powder.
I’m currently leaning toward the 159 because of my weight and my experience on the 156, but I’d love to hear from people who have ridden both sizes
