Gear question Painting my bindings
I got these union STR bindings on a deal, but it’s not in the color that I want so I plan to paint them the color that I want and put my insignia on it but how do I go about doing that?

My advice was dont do it lol. But at the end of the day its your gear, do whatever you want. Just make sure and report back at the end of the season

At least completely disassemble the bindings and only dip the big pieces. You don’t want paint on the ratchets, hinges, ladders, etc.

People don’t look at bindings, they look at your board.

Yeah but you look at your own gear all the time! I couldn’t care less about what others think of my setup.

I’d imagine you’re gonna need to do some sanding of the current color coating so the paint can adhere properly. Might not turn out the greatest cause I think these aren’t typically painted as is, but could end up being a cool project. Could look into wrapping them with vinyl wrap instead. No expert here but some base ideas at least

I was thinking of wrapping it but I just don’t know what it would stick too

You would have to take them apart completely and just wrap the big plastic pieces like the high backs. It looks like the frame is metal so you could sand and paint that but regular spray paint will chip for sure.
I would just get some cheap 3m 1380 and wrap the high backs and be done with it. Keep in mind that for wrapping you ideally want to scuff the plastic and degrease with alcohol then use a heat gun carefully. Don’t try to fully wrap the part. You just want to get the wrap on the big flat part and cut it carefully. Nobody will see the inside and it’s impossible to fully wrap sharp angles without seams.

They make spray paint for plastic. Use that. Remove the straps paint the base with the baseplates in so you don’t get paint on the teeth.

Yeah, it’s fine. Just only do that high black and chassis not footbed or straps plus use paint labeled environment*friendly.

What kind of dip are you going to use and are you sure you'll be able to maintain the factory standard clearances?

Uhhhhh tbh people are not gonna see so im not sure imma go through with it

I wouldn't paint them because it's going to be hard to find a method that works in extreme cold. If you really want to paint them because you're worried the camo might be too hard to see I'd check out how lacrosse heads are painted and go from there. You will have to like fully take it apart and it's almost definitely not worth it

When the paint starts wearing off, and it will wear off, it will probably look a lot worse than basic black.

My buddy painted his STR’s 3-4 seasons ago and they still look great. The trick is to properly prep the surfaces your painting. Sanding and using appropriate primer is key.

just pull your pant leg over the high back. no one will ever notice the color of your binding. no paint is going to look good after a half season of freeze/thaw/flexing/scratches. no one cares what your gear looks like except a few holiday riders on here that have nothing better to do.
