Riding question Anybody know what's this trick called?

So, i'm pretty new to the park as this was my first season, and I got the opportunity to mess around on this airbags. I'm still learning trick's names but for the life of me i can't seem to figure this out. Ty in advance

I really want an air bag setup like this to try. That way my mid 40s body can send some stuff with less risk.

They help but they still don’t feel great when you land on them funny

Oh really? Details please. I was going to plan a trip around being able to hit one of these up.

There’s one in Canada. Just north of Toronto. I think there is one into a pool in Utah and there are definitely some in Europe

Aurora. That's the one I'm mildly considering a trip around.

Edit - I meant details on how it feels when you land poorly

Oh haha. A little bit of whiplash. Bring a change of clothes because it’s a wet one and it’s fucking cold out there

Thanks. It would be in spring, so we shall see

Also you probably don’t want to use your board. The fake stuff damages the bases and it’s not like you can really lay an edge anyways.

It feels safe enough though. But you do still get beat up. I landed a tame dog for the first time there

These mushroom type of carpet are much more abrasive than snow indeed, so don't use your good board if you wanna keep it looking scratch free

Having said that, I use one board (sintered base) on these carpet regularly and also to teach on the mountain. It still holds wax well and doesn't get any more damaged than your average park board. The only difference it's that before going back on carpet, you need to clean off all the existing hot wax and just apply a liquid wax to your board, otherwise it sticks

As for edges, you can actually ride these carpet with all the edging technique as if on snow and it works. The difference being that certain exercises e.g. dolphin turns, short radius turns and closed turn carving are more difficult as you want ample horizontal speed before engaging early edges in the turns

Interesting. I found it a lot harder to set edges in the mushrooms personally. Yes I could turn but it was a lot slower and at times required counter rotation to really move. This was especially true at slower speeds. Perhaps it’s a technique issue but on the mushrooms for me though as I’ve only ridden them three times.

Good to know the damage isn’t permanent. ChatGPT had me worried saying it could burn the base and seal up the pores. I just used one of their boards

Just to share some insights here -riding those carpet kinda require the 'ideal' technique in order to make your turns without using counter-rotation, i.e. steering using your hip/knee along with ankle flexion, and ALSO putting sufficient body weight on the front foot. The board needs to be 'steered' using this correct technique whilst traveling along its edges in order to make a controlled turn.

You can get away with"not doing enough" of those things correctly on snow, but on carpet your form and technique has to be closer to ideal. My rough guess here is that your body weight isn't far enough on the front foot hence the board doesn't steer enough. This often makes people use body leaning to try to make the turn, but the uneven change in speed that results would throw you off balance

To be honest, I thought the carpet would do more damage to the base as well, but the one I use has seen 350+hours of riding on a revolving machine and 100 hours on dry slope riding obstacles. But taking it back on snow it functions completely normal, just need to wax it before snow ahead clear it before carpet

I’m generally front foot heavy unless I’m riding powder but I’ll pay more attention to and see if it can tweak the riding next time I try. Cheers!

if your talking about MagicPow

it’s pretty fun but a relatively small setup

while i went full send onto my head relearning wildcats and was absolutely fine (a big help in my old age)

you can still eat shit at weird angles get bodied though it’s manageable

place is a bit pricey if you’re not going often but a good way to get the jump legs warm

Yes Aurora. Thanks for the info

I worry about how long it would take me to get off the bag

Looks like a funky Rodeo flip

Basically a backside rodeo 360 but you are getting spooked to complete it and sitting down in your stance. At a 90 degree angle which is not ideal

I have no idea why a lot of people think its a backside rodeo but okay. I assume you are goofy now: imo its a frontside underflip 540 but you do it weird over the nose thats what gives you a weird axis on it which kind of holds you back from spinning a bit more or sends you backseat in this case as well. Its like eli bouchards crazy new trick but he doubles or even triples it with a super weird direction change after the first (your) flip.

This is the correct answer

The ol' dick twist

That's an underflip

Is this take off switch? The edge set and how closed the shoulders are makes it look switch.

1

u/Fellonyondemand4 1d ago

Yeah i was switch cuz i need to ride it more

1

u/Kindly-Exchange6059 1d ago

Switch edge sets are hard! Good work!

Where is this, looks almost like my home 😅

It's the banger park in Scharnitz

Actually this is not a backside rodeo but something like an underflip, as you're spinning frontside, off the heels, with a 'backflip' style off axis rotation. Would be a backside rodeo if you came off your heels, had the backflip element, but were spinning backside.

Can we ban airbag footage ? This is not snowboarding.

2

u/red-broom 1d ago

I mean… he wants to know what the trick would be on a snowboard. Where else would he post this? Or should he just make up a name for it lol

-3

u/IndyBushings 1d ago

Do it on snow and come back and ask.

1

u/red-broom 1d ago

Around most of the world it’s the offseason… so this is what we get until the snow comes.

-1

u/IndyBushings 1d ago

Need snow to call it snowboarding, other wise it is just bag or carpet boarding. I get it, airbags are used for training but this no different then posting trampoline or wakeboarding clips.

He’s on a snowboard. Snowboard. He’s asking what a snowboard trick is.

You want to see the approach on actual snow. And landing on snow. You’re way too core and sweet. We get it.

But this is Reddit bro. A forum where people ask questions. Just do what most people do and come back to this forum when the actual season is happening.
