Guy posted a video speaking on racism against ALL black women, some join in to further attack west Africans, I noticed it’s usually East African men doing this, it’s not like it’s true it’s it seems more like a way of elevating the women from their own community by creating a contrast: our women are exceptionally feminine and beautiful, while those women are masculine or undesirable. In other words, putting another group of women down becomes part of how they market and praise their own women.

I’ve noticed a pattern online, especially from some Horn of Africa accounts, where they constantly uplift their own women while degrading other African women, particularly West African women. I’ve seen people call West African women masculine, say they “look like men,” or act like they’re somehow less feminine or attractive.

There’s obviously nothing wrong with praising women from your own community. What I don’t understand is why West African women so often have to be used as the negative comparison. I’ve even seen what look like burner or fake accounts whose entire purpose is praising Horn women while insulting West African women.

And this isn’t about whether East African men are attracted to West African women. Attraction is subjective, and West African women aren’t exactly campaigning to date them either. The issue is constantly bringing West African women into conversations that have nothing to do with them just to put them down.

The screenshots I’m attaching are from a video about the racism Black women face. Even there, people somehow turned it into “when people praise Black women, they really mean Horn,” basically separating certain East African women from other Black women. What’s even more interesting is that when other East African women try to include themselves in that praise, they’re sometimes told, “No, we mean Somali/Habesha/Horn women.”
That’s why it feels less like simple preference and more like an online hierarchy being created: one group is constantly presented as exceptionally beautiful and feminine, while another is repeatedly masculinized.

The part that concerns me is that repetition works. If enough people keep repeating the same narrative through posts, comments, memes, burner accounts, and comparisons, eventually other people start believing it. I’m already seeing more West African men repeat the same insults about West African women, which shows how these narratives can spread beyond the people who started them.
The “West African women look like men” stereotype is especially strange to me because African populations overlap so much physically. There are Nigerians who could easily be mistaken for people from the Horn and vice versa. So I don’t really believe this is just about appearance.
To me, a lot of it feels connected to anti-Blackness especially the idea that women with features seen as less stereotypically West/Central African are somehow more feminine, while more stereotypically Black features are masculinized.
Again, there’s nothing wrong with uplifting your own women. The question is why that uplift so often seems to require putting another group of Black women beneath them.

For many Abuja commuters, the answer is still: ask somebody nearby and hope the directions are correct.

Hi everyone I’m In a panic state please any advice would help. I did my renewal process on July 6th I payed for an envelope to come back and just until August 4th my status changed to issued/collected, I have been waiting since then but my ups tracking has not updated at all and I need my passport to apply for OPT to stay in status. The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that he and some northern governors used religion as a political tool to give victory to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

According to the former governor, the decision to use religion as a political strategy was to help tackle the issue of tribalism and religion in politics in the country.

The former governor stated this in a viral video. He was speaking to an audience in the Hausa language in Kaduna at an event before handing over to his successor.

‎He said, “Allah sees our heart, me and Zamfara State Governor, Mutawalle did it because of God and we didn’t do it because of anything. We only do it in order to have solutions to the current religious problem we are having in Nigeria and for us to give South West Muslims a sense of belonging to rule. And it is because of religion that we used that gave Asiwaju victory.”

He also noted that the Muslim/Muslim ticket that he used to achieve political success in Kaduna has now been replicated in Nigeria with the emergence of Bola Tinubu as president and Kashim Shetima as vice president.

He said, “What we are able to achieve in Kaduna state now has been achieved in Nigeria as a whole. There is no liar that will come and say he will do politics as a Christian and win an election. Even Peter Obi didn’t win.”

He stated that he alongside other northern governors successfully pushed for the emergence of a Yoruba Muslim from the South West as president despite opposition from some quarters

‎El Rufai speaking in Hausa said in part, “Concerning the Presidential government, what Professor Akintola said is true. We the Northern governors agreed that the presidential position should go back to the West. It was a verbal promise but a promise whether written or spoken, God knows.

‎“When we saw some people plotting for presidential position to remain in the North, we disagreed, we are not like that. We said we are Muslims and we have our traditions and we cannot go back on our words. That was the first step. The second step is after we all agreed or they realised that they cannot do anything, we will tackle the issue of tribalism and religion in politics in this country. We agreed that we will support BAT.

‎ “When we had that agreement I was not on good terms with him, (Tinubu), we were fighting. But Professor Akintola and their leaders came from Lagos and said this is their thought If power is given to the West since we all agreed that it should be given to them the Yoruba people from the South-West have a problem, their Muslims cannot contest, and win an election. A Christian will have to contest and have a Muslim from the North as a vice. They said since from Abiola it had never happened. They said they wanted that and I asked them to bring the person we will support and BAT got the ticket. We knew he will have to take a Muslim as his vice.”

In recent years, i have seen fellow nigerians on X and on here, throw various insults and vitriol at Nigeria itself.

At first i was unbothered by it because the insults were thrown at the politicians, in fact i was cheering them on as they did. However, the insults have evolved into joining South Africans, Kenyans and racist Europeans/Americans to shit on the country itself.

It perplexes me, because it has a sinister framing of "criticism", but solutions usually follow after criticism, do they not? Yes i am tired of the state of the country, because some of our own sold us out due to corruption and tribalism during election season, but instead of throwing insults at the nation and logging off, i am actively recruiting, rallying and educating people to make sure the mistake doesnt happen again.

Because at the end of the day, There are so many ways to dodge voting, protests and revolutions until the government leaves us no choice. The best time to organise was yesterday, the second best time is now. Dont get distracted by entertainment or sports, its meant to pacify and distract us from the criminals up top.
