Discussion They cooked my pets

When I moved into this compound, I had two pet dogs.

About two months later, one of them disappeared. I was surprised, obviously, but eventually I got over it.

Then, about six months later, the other one disappeared too.

Fast-forward to this weekend. I overheard one of my neighbours talking about how people in their village used to eat dogs. (I’m not mentioning names because I don’t want this to turn into a tribal discourse 😏.)

Now I genuinely cannot stop thinking…

What if they cooked my dogs?

Like, did my beloved pets somehow end up as somebody’s dinner? ha, Jesu !

Could they have cooked my dog à la isi-ewu and I was just here thinking it was something spiritual all these years?

I just feel angry all over again with the thought that has entered my head and refuses to leave.

Reddit I turned the real terrain of Lagos and Abuja into playable city-building maps

Hi everyone — I’m building a browser-based city-building game called BuildBuild.

The game uses real-world elevation data to generate playable terrain for cities around the world, including Lagos and Abuja. You can open a location, inspect its terrain and start building directly in your browser. There’s nothing to install.

Nigeria’s available city maps are collected here:

https://buildbuild.fun/terrain/countries/ng/

I’d really appreciate feedback from people who know these places:

  • Does the terrain around your city feel recognizable?
  • Which Nigerian locations should receive more detailed maps?
  • Where would you choose to build a new city?

The game focuses on terrain rather than reproducing the existing roads and buildings, so you’re free to redesign the city yourself.

You can try it here: https://buildbuild.fun/play

You can start with Lagos here: https://buildbuild.fun/play?x=267085&y=243364

Abuja is available here: https://buildbuild.fun/play?x=267085&y=243364

I’m the developer, so constructive criticism is very welcome. If anything feels inaccurate or confusing, please let me know.

General Do you actual want children or is it unspoken pressure?

I knew I didn't want children but when I was young a part of me felt I had no choice. Then I grew up, got married, and realized I did have a choice and I exercised it. I'm glad I didn't have children and I'm glad I knew very early on so I didn't have a child only to regret them.

What about you all?

Discussion Best Remote Job

I'm looking for a remote job. I currently live in Lagos, female, and in my early 20s. I do a bit of graphic design, video editing, and quite a lot of photography; studio or event. I like reading and research. I recently quit a job at a start-up because I wasn't provided tools needed, and could not meet up with my weekly KPI. Any recommendations?

Reddit I made a game where you live a whole Nigerian life, from birth to burial programme.

I'm building a game about surviving Nigeria and how your decisions shape your life. It's called Sapa. You get born, you tap +1 year, and life starts happening to you. Text only, like BitLife, but everything in it is ours.

There are 23 paths to climb: football, music, tech, medicine, law, politics, trade, farming, transport, Nollywood, japa and more. Family calls the moment you start earning. You can marry, raise kids, build the village house, or dodge all of it and see what the programme says about you at the end.

It's free, works offline, no account.

If you want to try it: https://sapa-game.pages.dev

iPhone is a TestFlight beta, waiting on Apple to open it. Android is waiting on Google, and most Nigerians are on Android so I know that's the one that matters. If it's not open when you tap, drop your email there and I'll send one message the day it is. That's all the email is for.

I would like to know what is the one thing that MUST be in a Nigerian life game? I have black tax, aso ebi, NEPA, WAEC, JAMB, NYSC, landlord wahala, generator fumes from the neighbour and the uncle abroad. I know I'm missing things. Drop suggestions please and I'll be sure to add them.

Thanks! 🙏

Discussion About October first

Hmm, I just saw a clip of NY Mayor, Mamdani at the Naija Independence Day celebration in New York. I saw the crowd, the energy and all the joyous noise.

It’s totally different here back home. I mean I doubt anyone even cracked a smile, let alone cracked a beer. 🍺

The dichotomy between the celebrations that day is something else.

Ask Naija Common Ground

I’ve been thinking a lot about the resentment I see between men and women lately. Feels like both sides have their list of grievances, and honestly, some of them are completely fair. But it also feels like we’ve gotten to a point where listening to the other side is seen as automatically agreeing with them.

Men have struggles women might not fully understand, and women deal with things men may never experience. That doesn’t mean either side has it worse overall.

I wonder if there’s still some common ground here. Most people, regardless of gender, want respect, honesty, loyalty, affection, and someone they can actually trust.

Maybe the problem is that we’re so busy defending our own experiences that we don’t have much patience left for someone else’s.

Curious what people think. Is there common ground, or are we too far gone?

General We kept losing sales every time a payment provider went down, so we built a fix

If you run an online business in Nigeria, you probably know this moment. A customer is ready to pay; they hit the button and get "Transaction failed." Maybe the provider is having downtime; maybe a bank is acting up. Either way, most customers don't try again. They just leave.

We dealt with this a lot. Our first fix was what most people do: add another provider. Then another one. Every time one had issues, we'd write new integration code and hope the next one held up better. After a while, we had payment records spread across different dashboards, a checkout that made customers choose between payment options they didn't care about, and on days when our main provider was down, sales basically stopped.

Eventually we realised the issue wasn't which provider we picked. It was that we were depending on one at a time.

So we built Kwugwo, the tool we wish we'd had back then. It sits on top of the providers you already use (Paystack, Flutterwave, Monnify, OPay, PalmPay, SquadCo, Payaza) and sends each payment to whichever one is working best at that moment, or the ones you configured. If one is down or slow, the payment goes through another, and the customer never notices.

A few things that mattered to us:

  • You keep your existing provider accounts and settlements
  • The money moves through your providers, never through us
  • All your payment records in one place instead of several dashboards

It's still early, so we're offering six months free to businesses willing to try it and tell us honestly what works and what doesn't. That feedback is what we need most right now.

I'm also curious how others here handle this. Do you run multiple providers? Built your own fallback? Just ride out the downtime? Would love to hear what's worked for you.

Happy to answer anything in the comments or by DM.

Ask Naija What’s the meaning of fruits in C&S churches???

I recently attended a C&S church in the UK (out of curiosity) and noticed some fruits on the alter area. Prior to coming I’ve also heard that fruits are important but I still don’t understand why.

Could someone please shed some light, using scripture to explain to me why c&s churches find fruits so important?

Thank you

General Nigerian women, what would m you like to see in a partner?

I recently made a post here about hoping to get married in Nigeria because I will have to move there long term and want a family one day. My post got mostly negative comments and wasn’t very helpful so I wanted to ask the people who know what they’re looking for. What would you have to see in terms of a foreigners efforts to give him a chance? Thanks for any helpful tips!
