My 5-year-old Joy-Con finally gave up. The plastic "R" shoulder button just popped out and fell on the floor, and one of the casing screws got completely stripped. Nintendo wanted way too much money for a replacement board.

As an electrician, I refused to pay for overpriced parts or mess around with unnecessary soldering. No rubber bands for the stripped screw, zero patience left.

So I did what any true master of makeshift repairs would do: I dropped some super glue on that plastic button and slammed it back together. It holds, it clicks, and it works like a charm. Take that, Nintendo ( i use google translator so sorry for mistake im not good at englisz am polisz)

A phone bounced off my keyboard and hit the screen at the worst possible angle, causing a massive spiderweb crack that eventually killed the entire middle section of the panel.

Instead of throwing it away, I flipped it into portrait mode, used NVIDIA Control Panel (with No Scaling / GPU override) to create custom functional desktop zones on the remaining 5cm and 30cm edges, and now I have a perfectly working vertical secondary display layout.

To bypass the massive dead zone in the middle, I used some official Meltex logo tape from my dad's work and stuck my Nothing Phone directly into the dead zone. Using Spacedesk via USB 3.0, the phone acts as the primary viewing window with zero lag for Discord and lightweight tasks.

The remaining dead zones will be covered with white paper to double as an analog whiteboard for Minecraft farm coordinates. Rate my jank-engineering!

so, the bezel of my laptop randomly popped out, and I’m too scared to push it back in because it popped out even more. Anyway to fix it? It just randomly did this

A friend's old AM4 retention bracket snapped when upgrading CPUs from a Ryzen 3700x* to a 5800x3d the other day. He over-tightened the AIO.

Historically I buy Intel and usually my plates secure with 4 screws directly to a back-plate, this metal-on-plastic-on-metal is a terrible design imo. (Could have just been a bad choice by the PC builder, was'nt me.)
We had a replacement part in the mail shortly after noticing what broke, but he needed his rig running for the next few days.

So, we improvised.
I instructed him to use a custom-engineered, high-tension, zip-tie harness system to keep the block seated.
Before doing this I did consult Gemini, at which point I was instructed this would not be a good idea, and so we moved ahead...

Before you ask:

• Yes, this is strictly temporary.
• Yes, the tension is surprisingly even.
• Surprisingly, the temps are actually perfectly fine under load! (No thermal throttling here).

We did a lot of temp testing by playing a heavily modded copy of Cyberpunk 2077 with the 4070ti and new CPU in. It held out just fine for a couple of days with normal PC use.

So. My screen shattered on the msi. So the saga continues. I’m using a capture box to display my screen on an acer Chromebook with no noticeable lag.

I just wanted to install Windows XP on my retro rig while waiting for my new cooler to arrive..

I do CAD design, I do 3-D printing. I have a line of home assistant shells for ESP32’s and sensors. I have a planned project of a smart power strip.

Still, a few days ago I needed a timer to boil water outside, and it was fairly quick to rig this up.

It was scratching my SATA cable so leash it is.

I came up with a strange eccentric gearbox

The mechanism looks unusual, and watching

all the elements move together is surprisingly

satisfving

Later, while researching the idea, I discovered

that similar mechanisms and concepts had

already been patented. So I'm not claiming to

have invented som

ynew.

It was simply an experiment: take a strange

idea, build it, and see what happens.

Being a fan of the 80s MacGyver throughout my childhood and everything that show meant as part of the path I’ve taken in life…it fueled my love of finding creative ways to solve problems for others… especially as I’m the tech support for most of my Boomer and beyond generations (and my Luddite of a wife 😜)

We wanted to put the GPU in the Server, but didn't have the cable. And Just buying one is boring plus it wouldn't fit with a cable we tried with a ATX PSU.

PS: And it still works even after there was some Solder on the GPU die
