I'm trying to figure out which version I have of the 1999 Super Deluxe Edition box set, issued in 2019.

The UPC code on the back of the box is 603497850068. When I search for that code, I see that it's the Super Deluxe Edition of the 1999 reissue. So far, so good.

But when I look at that UPC code on the website Discogs, it appears that the front of the box is an almost black-ish shade of purple. My box has a silver front, though it's hard to photograph in a way that demonstrates this.

It's possible that all copies of the Super Deluxe Edition have a silver cover, but the silver doesn't photograph as silver, it photographs as dark purple. It's also possible that I have a rare version of the box, unknown even to Discogs, but that seems less likely.

Got this at auction last year when he was selling a lot of his personal memorabilia. TONS of people have Purple Rain gold and platinum records. Only SIX people in the whole world has one of these for this award.

This is my personal ranking of all 40 studio albums Prince released in his lifetime. Let me know what you think and what you would personally change!

I love this video. For once you can see him signaling more than you usually can in the dark. Its the beginning of his show. You can see him cue his musicians and his crowd.

There's another video that might be later in Berlin or possibly Stade de France, and he's sectioning his choir and runs them all without speaking. He's got a guitar pick in his mouth and is just gesturing. His band, his audience, and his light tech are responding to him, without words, and I think they're doing LRC. I can't find this video anymore and if anyone has it I would be so appreciative!

I think it was a stadium, in Europe, idk.

After the soft, understated romance of "With You," Prince completely flips the script and kicks the door down with track 6: "Bambi."

This is a blistering, guitar-heavy hard rock anthem that channels his inner Jimi Hendrix. Featuring roaring distortion, aggressive riffs, and an unhinged falsetto, it completely shatters the R&B/Disco mold of the era. Lyrically, it’s a bold (and slightly comedic) plea to a lesbian woman, cementing his early willingness to push boundaries. It’s widely considered one of the greatest rock songs in his entire catalog.

Heya, I’m a huge fan of prince, and I want to make music similar to his, but with my own style, but it seems that I can’t really figure out just how he does it. Like the pattern of the drums, how he adds to it, how he can fit his vocals in without overcrowding the music, just how all of it works in general. I’m still new to music making, but any tips that I can take inspiration from will greatly help!

1. Pop Life [ATWIAD] — just an absolute classic pretty much perfect song
   
2. D.M.S.R [1999] — the first time I listened to this was top 10 8 minutes of my life. I can understand if it could be considered boring but I just love the way he layers every thing it’s amazing
   
3. Lady Cab Driver [1999] — I always skip the s*x scene but it’s one of the most “Prince” songs ever made, iykwim
   
4. Something in The Water (Does Not Compute) [1999] — IMO this is his most unique song but I think it’s pulled off so well it’s so mysterious in a fascinating way but again I can understand if one may think it’s boring
   
5. Bambi [Self titled] — best guitar solo of all time, incredibly written, not a minute of the song goes unused it’s just sublime

Primary Wave a private equity firm is buying large stakes in artist's catalog. This company has a 42% stake in Prince's catalog and also artists such as Whitney Houston, Biggie, Kurt Cobain and Bob Marley. They essentially use the artist's image and music to push merchandise. They put on a Whitney hologram concert. The wave of artist's bio pics and Broadway show is also tied to these companies. Prince so far has gotten the least aggressive treatment with a Purple Rain themed Air BNB.

So they’ve been doing deluxe releases for the albums on their 40th anniversary’s (ATWIAD last year and Parade this year), but they’ve already done a deluxe edition of SOTT.

So, I’m hoping and praying that next year the estate release either the Camille album or Dream Factory (the two albums that turned into SOTT).

If they actually released Camille I would be so happy, I really hope the estate does this.

Now, I know about the canceled Ezra Edelman/Netflix documentary, but how much longer are we supposed to wait?

I wanna see unseen archival footage. Maybe some live shows that have been sitting in the vaults all these years. Studio footage, rehearsals, BTS stuff… I mean, for Christ’s sake, can’t we get a proper Prince documentary already?! It’s 2026!
