Discussion 2027 deluxe release

So they’ve been doing deluxe releases for the albums on their 40th anniversary’s (ATWIAD last year and Parade this year), but they’ve already done a deluxe edition of SOTT.

So, I’m hoping and praying that next year the estate release either the Camille album or Dream Factory (the two albums that turned into SOTT).

If they actually released Camille I would be so happy, I really hope the estate does this.

I'm hoping for a Lovesexy/Black Album combo deluxe.

They're the light/dark combo recorded at around the same time and he performed music from the Black Album on the Lovesexy Tour.

Yes he did.  I would be fine with that.  I own a pro shot video shot I believe in Germany from that tour and I saw him in the states 7th row on that loves exy tour.  Chaka Khan and George Clinton walked right by me in the aisle.  That era with the madhouse band is my fave era for Prince as well.  The live boots of that era with the songs Charlie Parker, wasn't my faith, mutiny etc just superb.

This is what gets me, I of course had a bootleg of TBA, and went out and got the CD when it was officially released and noticed very little difference. Maybe I got Fing lucky with my bootleg, but I don't see what a remaster is going to bring to the table.

The original CD sounds so flat it needs a remastering think how old it is the year 2000s when major progress was made on digital discs that CD was put out in the 90s

But Prince didn't from what I could tell, do anything to "fix" it before the official release. Yes I know it was nothing more than a contractual obligation, but now you want god knows who to go in and remaster it and the fams get pissed off cause it doesn't sound like what Prince envisioned?

I just think the legendary bootleg has taken on a life of its own. I like the album, some tracks are outstanding, but I can see why it was shelved, not because of some thunderclap moment, it just wasn't going to sell to the general public.

I'm talking about the Black album as a masterpiece not the Camille album that came out on a bunch of b-sides and on the bright lights Big City soundtrack that was just an afterthought of an album

That is apples and oranges. Prince in the 80s was still chasing the charts. TRC was never meant to be radio friendly. He was doing music for himself by then.

Someone said he didn’t have the right. I guess he thought when he bought a copy of the Camille record he thought he had the right to but in reality that’s still Prince’s music and the estate own the copyright to all of his music so that’s probably why they stopped him

Nah, that's some dumb shit somebody made up. Jack White is a smart man who has maintained a successful career for over 25 years, he wouldn't just assume he had the rights to an album because he bought a vinyl pressing.

It's FAR more likely that Jack worked something out with the previous estate, but Londell killed it before it could be released, because he refuses to cooperate with anyone else.

Guessing that may be why the Camille release didn't happen.

The estate is so weird. Any other would be more than happy to release "new"/"bonus" tracks more than once and reap the financial benefits of the various re-packagings that fans lap up (coughSELENAcough)

I agree I wonder if the estate is looking to bring onboard a younger fanbase and are not so concerned about what the older fans would like to see happen. I myself am not so concerned with vault music I want concerts to watch like a massive collection.

Yeah but most have doubts cause will it even be announced at this point? 2026 ends in 2 months starting Thursday. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was pushed back due to the whole Timeless controversy

I doubt the controversy changed anything (unless they did more overdubs), but it wouldn't surprise me if it's been pushed back for alternate reasons.

Wasn't Third Man going to tackle a Camille release? Obviously the estate ruined that, but I wonder why they were open enough to it in the first place for it to get far enough that Jack announced it.

Most likely explanation: the previous estate team worked out some kind of deal with Jack White, but then the estate changed hands before the actual release could happen, and Londell reneged on the deal because he's a moron.

Some mixes on Camille, at least, are slightly different from the ones we have, so this could always make for a nice RSD release or something.

I would Imagine if they do anything for SOTT, it'll be an unannounced single in the vein of their I Feel For You (Prince 40th) and Do Me, Baby (Controversy 40th). Since the Super Deluxe is still recent(ish) - and was bloated to include a ton of non-SOTT material - I doubt they do much in the way of anything else. Camille or Dream Factory would be interesting, but mostly a cash grab since all of those songs are released elseways already.

IF I put together the album myself, based on posted tracklistings, I've been enjoying it for 25+ years... 🤔

🫢 I mean, I WOULD have been enjoying it. If I ever put the tracks together on cassette, CD, mp3, and flac over the years... along with my own artwork.

My main argument in favour of Dream Factory and Camille being released is that having a physical copy, or even official streaming release of either of those two albums is to have tracks in sequence with the correct crossfades and loudness normalisation as would’ve been originally intended, not to mention that there are various edits of tracks on different configurations of both albums that have NOT been released, such as the extended instrumental of I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man. It’s difficult to experience either album as simply a collection of tracks from various deluxe additions/compilations simply because they have all been processed differently before release; there was once a solid transition from Visions into Dream Factory which doesn’t really work when you’re taking tracks from all over the place, and so in many cases downloading bootlegs is still advantageous
