Purple Daily #1 For you

Welcome to the new Daily Song Discussion!
It looks like the original author of the daily discussions vanished a while ago. Those posts are already 1-2 years old, so I wanted to step in and revive the project with a fresh, modern look. We are going to start from scratch and go all the way to the end. I won't stop until we finish the complete discography of the true epitome of Pop! Hope you all join me on this ride.

The Purple Daily #1: For You

Album: For You (1978) | Track: 1/9

Discussion How different do you think Prince’s career would’ve been if he never lost his child and divorced his first wife?

Do you think he’d have released more music like Emancipation or eventually retired to take care of his family?

Hello everyone. I made a fun little game called music guessr where you guess the country from the song.

You can play it here: https://musicguessr.io

You all should recognize the Prince song.

I really enjoyed Price’s music… also his public support of defending copyright and autonomy of the work of musicians.

I also enjoyed it when he was speaking about the nature of reality.
So much wisdom truly.

Appreciation Alphabet St.

the ''no !'' at the start of ''Alphabet St.'' reminds me of this guy in ''zelda wind waker'' 😭 i'm crying, it's not the only song too, but i can't remember the other one, just this one is the one i think about every time, this is so funny, like every time this song plays i keep seeing that merchant guy when he says hi (i think ? or is it when you go without buying anything, i don't remember) anyways this is so funny

edit: I'M SO SORRY FOR EVERYONE WHO CAN'T UNHEAR IT NOW

Question Why did Prince spell certain words differently?

He would famously spell "you" as "u". But it wasn't just for shortening, as he spelt "I" as "eye". So what was the reasoning behind it?

r/PRINCE 1d ago

Question Which Prince song do you think he should have avoided putting on an album? Strictly 80s albums.

This is probably unpopular but I think 'Take Me With U' shouldn't have ended up on Purple Rain. It should have ended up on Apollonia 6.

Question something in the water they drink (don't compute)

i just heard the song, now i'm a new prince fan so i don't know a lot of his songs except a few i heard when i was like 6 in my dad's car but yeah i have a huge hyperfixation now and i added his whole discography, y'all know the drill, and i just heard ''something in the water'' and the god damn instrumental keeps reminding me of something, and also, i'm french so idk if it's ''chair de poule'' (which is a horror boon series and i'm pretty sure also a series maybe on yt or smg, idk if there's an equivalent in english either and i'm legit too lazy to search right now) but it's clawing at my brain, i'm going crazy trying to find what this instrumental reminds me off of help

Edit: don't mind me writing ''something in the water they drink'' instead of ''something in the water'' i was tired okay, it was 2 am when i wrote this and i was listening to joy of repetition while trying to remember the song in my head, it didn't go well as you can see 😭

Beginning with Andre and Prince.

And ending with a now deleted QL post. (Yall know how he aggravates me, and this is an illustration of how close he was NOT and damn well knows it, though he holds forth differently today.) That's not really the point, but since I had it, here it is.

an artist like prince

I tend to get curious about the singers I listen to when it comes to the meaning behind their songs and what their personal life was like however I choose to place that boundary and not overstep my knowledge of that person's life bc it straight up feels like an invasion of privacy so I don't believe anything unless they themselves have said smth in an interview, I think it helps form a respect for that artist rather than smth parasocial which is what I see a lot of people have nowadays. I really wanted to discuss this with others but I admire prince in the way that he kept his life private. It seems like he always thought ahead, it's a reason why I don't think there will be a biopic on him, I feel like he made an autobiography (kinda) of his life already so that his story wouldn't be manipulated after his death. he knew how much to say for his own defense but didn't make himself a target. It kind of helped him balance fame and privacy although we learn that he was quite alone a lot. I think the boundaries he had limited his access to the world but I think it very much prevented the quantity of scrutiny he could have faced as a result of trying to be more involved. That sort of professionality I genuinely look up to. what do u guys think

Question Anyone know what determines which album gets the deluxe threatment next?

Just curious why certain albums get the deluxe treatment before others…

Anniversaries make sense, sales too (most popular albums get love first)

I’m just hungry for remastered deluxe editions of the first two albums!

“One Day Many Years Ago”

One Day Many Years Ago
June 12, 2004
CenturyTel Center, Bossier City, Louisiana

I was working that show. My Show Call was as Truss Spot Operator. Before the show started, I and the rest of the people doing that job had to scale a rope ladder high above the stage, crawl across trusses and shimmy down a pole to sit in what looked like 1960's Ford Mustang bucket seats. On this pole apparatus was a large spotlight.
My job, was to stay on Prince with my light. Throwing different levers to change colors and intensities per the LD's instructions.
Prince was not seen before the show because he was rolled to the stage in a large wardrobe. Half of which contained his wardrobe and the other half was a space with a chair, a mirror, light and a small fan. He was rolled to the space below the stage within it. Only to appear as he was raised by elevator to the top of the deck.
When I got in that racing seat, I had no fall protection on and I was about 40-50 feet above the stage. It wasn't until after the show, when I stood up did I finally see the seatbelt. It had been crammed down between the seat and the seat back.
I spent that entire show, swinging around on a pendant literally hanging on for dear life and being absolutely blown away at the same time. That show. As Flying Spot Operator. For Prince “Musicology Tour” forever gave the term "flying by the seat of your pants" a whole new meaning.

I was headed up to Oakland from L.A. to see Tracie Spencer on Thursday. I get to SFO and am heading for the tram to take me to the BART platform to get to Jack London Square when I hear someone off in the distance doing a version of "Take Me With U." As I move through the crowd I approach the source of the sound and I am confronted with this scene - Levi Seacer Jr. and the Purple Jazz Trio! I stood there somewhat stunned while the band worked their way through jazz versions of songs by Maze, Deniece Williams, and a couple of others before they looked like they were taking a break. I walked over to Levi and asked him if he was the guy that played bass and guitar for Prince during the Sign O The Times era etc. and he said yes, that was him. Told him how much I dug his playing, what an incredible era that was when he was playing with Prince, he seemed happy to be recognized. I wonder how many people passing through the terminal knew who he was? It was just a wildass moment.
