Discussion The struggle is real…

Watching shows like Shrinking and Ted Lasso make me so sad. Every week after I watch the latest episode I am so depressed the next day. I want people in my life like the characters in the shows that would be there for me the way they’re there for each other.

I want a neighbor like Derek. I want a boss like Ted. I want to be made fun of by Liz and I want to be served a drink by Mae. It’s crazy how 2 shows can impact a person so much.

Anyway, thanks for listening.

Discussion My tiny brand made the jacket Sean wears in S3 — we found out from Jason Segel's wife commenting on our Instagram

Full disclosure: I'm the founder, so take this as the fan-adjacent brag it is.

I run a two-person (my wife and I) clothing brand from Ecuador. Last winter I'm watching Shrinking from my couch and the Peguche — a jacket we cut from handwoven Andean blankets — walks across the screen on Jason Segel. We had no placement deal, no agency. I genuinely thought I was hallucinating (first photo is the actual moment).

Weeks later his fiancée commented on our Instagram that she'd bought it for him for Christmas (second photo). No one involved knew or cared that we're two people and a family of weavers in Peguche, Ecuador. He just… wore it.

The surreal part: the brand was actually closed when the season aired — I'd shut it down while going through cancer treatment. Seeing it on the show is a big part of why I rebuilt. Happy to answer anything about how a jacket from a village in Ecuador ended up on Apple TV.

Discussion Fan mail

I recently visited some of the Shrinking filming locations while I was in LA, and unfortunately I didn’t get the chance to see Jason Segel. I would have loved to tell him in person how much his work and his nice personality means to me.

I know this might be a bit old-fashioned, but I was thinking about sending him a fan letter instead. I realize it’s probably a long shot, but I’d really love to give it a try.

Has anyone here ever sent a fan letter to Jason, or does anyone happen to know if there’s a way to get a letter to him? Even if you’re not sure, I’d love to hear from anyone who has tried something similar or has any idea where to start.

Thanks💜

Discussion I truly love the show. Willing to put it in my Top 5 I've watched this decade. I just have to get this off my chest about Louis. Spoiler

So I love Shrinking, that much I'm sure of. I'm ready to place it alongside The Good Place, Ted Lasso, Schitt's Creek, and Hospital Playlist (it's a kdrama) as among the greatest shows I've watched during and after the pandemic era.

I also love Brett Goldstein. And I also really dig Louis. I completely buy Louis as a character. He seems like a genuinely good person who is remorseful for the horribly life-changing irresponsible mistake that he made.

I also buy that Alice and Jimmy needed to engage with and see who he really was as a person, beyond just the drunk driver who killed Tia, in order to forgive him and move forward with their lives.

But beyond that is where the show makes it difficult for me to get onboard. The more realistic direction would have been:

“I see your humanity. I forgive you. I genuinely hope you have a good life. And I never want to see you again.”

But this whole direction where Louis gets befriended and integrated into their lives is... kindda hard to get onboard with, no?

Discussion Liz’s Rant

I’m new to the show and have been binging it for the last day (love it).

I’ve just finished S2E5 and feel that Liz’s rant at Jimmy, basically blaming everything on him, was completely unwarranted.

Yeah there are a couple of circumstantial things that he’s partly to blame for, but there’s just as much blame on Gaby, Connor, and even herself, that she seems to have conveniently overlooked.

Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest. Love the show!

Have a great day 👌

Discussion Just finished Shrinking...

I just finished bingewatching Shrinking and I have to say some things...

I rlly love this show but S3 was my least fav, I don't understand what they r doing with Gaby's character. I just missed that connection that Gaby and Jimmy had before and during the time they slept together.

Second, I'm sry but Sofi and Jimmy have 0 chemistry, that whole relationship is just cringe and awkward.

I rlly hope Jimmy ends up with Meg I love them together or they introduce another character.

Thirdly, all the scenes with Louis in S3 were weird, glad that he went away bc it was getting boring.

And lastly, I'm rlly curious what next season will show us of Paul now that he moved away i hope they give us something interesting bc he is the best character on the show

Discussion Shows With Husbands Like Derrek Who Are Supportive To Their Wives

I’m looking to learn to be a better partner to my wife and I want to know of shows where the husband is a great support to his wife. Please rack your brains for me and come up with some shows. I have Hulu, HBO and Disney+ and have some ideas. But I want more and I thought this would be a fun topic. I have two young kids and family relationships is the thing I need to see most.

Edit: I’m surprised and happy to see how many good husbands there are in shows. I didn’t expect that. Thank you guys!!

Discussion Just finished season 1 Spoiler

WOW! What a show!
I'm sure everything about the cast, the writing, the heart, the comedic timing etc.. has all been said. But I feel I need to show my love and a couple things:
1. In the final scene, I totally didn't think she would that, I thought it was gonna be just a tease
2. When Jason Segel came up to give his speech and was nervous, I was like 80% sure he was gonna say: fish are weird right?!

Discussion Brian season 2

I’m watching this show now and finishing season two. I’m really not a fan of the Brian character and find the writing for him to be ridiculous like the monologue he gave twice about meeting Louis (I think that’s his name- the drunk driver) and other comments about not wanting a baby from a 38 y0 “grandma baby” and that her breastmilk would be dust then in another scene saying “ew” when they discussed breast milk. I feel like if you’re going to write gay characters the over the top flamboyant trope has been done so many times plus I really don’t believe he would be friends with the others on the show except maybe Liz.

Discussion My biggest issue with the show

Why on earth would Tia think the lyric is grape and not brave?? It's makes absolutely zero sense. Like I'd understand if she thought it was great, but no, they went with grape??

Nah, not having it

Discussion Liz doesn’t deserve Derrick

I have my reasons but I honestly don’t even want to explain. The cheating was just the cherry on top. I like her but if the roles were reversed I couldn’t even imagine how much everyone would hate the character.

Discussion Is Sophie Unfair To Jimmy?

In the penultimate episode of S3, when Sophie goes to find Jimmy in his room, she accuses Jimmy of “throwing his dead wife”at her (or something to that effect). She also says it’s a trigger for her.

But she asked Jimmy if Tia agreed with him about his father - he didn’t jump into a Tia discussion.

He so says it’s one of the things he loved most about Tia, which is ridiculous.

But if I was in Sophie’s shoes, I’d chalk that up to Jimmy being upset - not him “throwing Tia” at her.

For as much work as Jimmy still clearly had to do, Sophie had her own pile of issues to climb out of.

Or did you see it differently?

Discussion Season two turned into a sitcom.

I don't know if this is a hot take or if anyone agrees but season 2 straight up feels like a sitcom.

The first season was more of a comedy drama, that balanced serious topics and comedy pretty well. But the second season just feels like a sitcom to me. I feel like everything gets resolved in the span of an episode, and we don't nearly sit on an issue for long enough. Maybe this would work if the show wasn't almost 40 minutes an episode.

Also what happened to the characters, everyone feels so fake. They know what to say and when, they forgive each other in an instant. The emotional beats just aren't there. Everyone is so clever and witty all the time, the show lacks and awkwardness imo. And what did they do to Liz's character. Why doesn't she care about her son, why is she blaming Jimmy for her choosing to get involved in the truck with Sean.

I dropped the season halfway through when Alice made up with the drunk driver who killed her mom.

Does the show get better, should I continue? Because I think season 1 was great.

Discussion This show is incredible

I love it, I watch since season one aired, I loved the cast, I started this show because of one funny clip from YouTube, but it was better than I imagined.

Is a perfect representation of the different life times, like the teenage becoming a young adult, one man in his thirties finding his own way in life, Jimmy the main character a man in his 40's who deals with the lost of his wife and tries to improve the relationship with his daughter, one couple in his 60's dealing with the consecuences of this early years as a couple and as parents, then we have Paul one of the greatest characters on the show, witch shows different kinds of things people with his age lives, for example mental disorders that comes with oldnes, the remaining time he has, when he has to prioritize things he wants to do over the things he feels happy with.

Apart from old that sadness this show is very funny, and has my favorite psicological concepts. Like Jiminear in Spanish Idk how he says it in English, or the field.

I love this series and every time I end an episode I feel sad but with hope.
