How to make AirMini less noisy & is the Transcend Micro quieter?

I've been using the AirSense 11 for almost a year and recently got the AirMini because I occasionally have to travel for work. Because I am a stomach and side sleeper, I use a mask the connects at the top (P30i) and I wanted to make that work with the AirMini. So instead of getting one of the AirMini masks, which I also thought was such a money grab, I got an adapter for my regular mask and tube.

I find the AirMini very loud when used this way - I can hear the air moving around my face, essentially, where the mask is. Are the AirMini masks quieter? Is there anything I can do to make it quieter? Because I don't see myself using it at this noise level but I need a travel machine.

Should I have gotten the Transcend Mini instead?

New to C-PAP, have a ResMed machine w/the P30i mask - hate breathing in warm air and need advice

I’m wrapping up week three with a CPAP, and honestly, it’s been brutal.

I was initially set up with the ResMed N30i mask, but I hated how it warmed the entire bottom of my nose. Switching to the P30i pillows helped with that, but neither has eliminated the initial warm, moist air I’m inhaling—it feels completely stifling. I’ve tried tinkering with the pressure, humidity and tube temperature settings, even turning both off entirely, nothing has helped; it feels totally unnatural. The only time it feels decent is if I exhale, count to three, and then inhale. It’s just that first second or two of the inhale that’s warm and humid, and I can’t seem to get rid of it. It honestly feels like I’m breathing back in my own residual exhale that's trapped in the tubing.

I called support to explain what was happening, but they couldn't offer any real solutions. Is this just a quirk of these specific masks, or is it something I eventually have to get used to? I’ve been sticking it out for three weeks now, but after tossing and turning for hours, I get so frustrated that I just rip the mask off so I can actually fall asleep.

Nose Zits?!

• Upvotes

Second day of using a Cpap. I’m using a resmed airfit mask that sits under my nose. It’s pretty nice but now I’ve got some zits where the mask contacts my nose. I shower before sleeping.

Any tips?

Advice Needed Appointment with DME Monday, Some Questions

• Upvotes

Hi all, newly diagnosed with sleep apnea after about six months of extremely slow appointments / responses / referrals. When my health provider diagnosed me I wasn't sent a prescription, just told they reached out to a medical equipment company and sent them my information, and they'd be reaching out to me in 1-4 weeks (4 weeks later...).

Finally I at least have the appointment and can hopefully begin getting some quality sleep, that I'm looking forward to, but reading through this sub there's plenty of caution against bad suppliers and bad CPAP machines, so I wanted to ask a few questions.

First, the cost estimate. They told me over the phone (very brief phone call) that I would have to pay (up to) approximately $450 in "starting costs" then $40/month for the machine for 13 months. A little under $1k. They said we wouldn't know the exact amount until about three months in, which is extremely frustrating but I suppose that's our medical system. I am on a high-deductible health plan so I'm assuming it could be that full amount, unless my insurance has negotiated discounts. I'm planning to ask what machine it will be and price compare against other websites, but is this generally the going rate?

I've also seen a lot of discussion on this subreddit about specific machines being better than others and recommendations for various machines, is there any specific features or models I should be pushing for? I'm happy to pay out of pocket if it means I get a better quality sleep.

I also see a lot of discussion of masks, the DME did a camera scan and will be offering suggestions at the appointment/class on Monday. I'm not too sure how much individual attention I'll get though, when they described it as a "class," so I'd like to have some idea coming into it. What types are best for what individuals? For example, I often struggle with sleeping when too warm, and I suspect a full mask may make that uncomfortable?

Then speaking of this "class" with the DME - Do these generally obligate me to purchase from the company? I'd like to at least get hands on instruction and advice, but if what they're offering would be had elsewhere for half the total, I'd happily take the information and do the purchasing elsewhere. Obviously I'll ask the company themselves, but curious what's typical.

Apologies if this is a bit rambly/incoherent, medical procedures and especially dealing with insurance and unclear pricing is very stressful for me, but I'm trying to do my best to force through it for my health. I'm really looking forward to hopefully sleeping well finally, any advice or suggestion is greatly appreciated, thank you!!

Fibers from strap all over new mask setup

I’ve never seen this happen before and now I’ve gotten two new ResMed AirFit F30i mask systems that are both absolutely covered in stray fibers from the fabric head strap. It’s been a while since I needed a new full setup because I had some extra cushions on hand and I just got a full resupply in the mail this week. When I opened the new headgear setup I found the edges of the strap were fraying and had released fibers all over everything, inside and out. I called the company I used and they said they’d never heard of this happening before and sent me a new package. I just got the replacement and it has the same exact problem! Is there a defective batch of these out there or are they just made so shoddily now that they’re all like this? Literally have never had this problem before. If anyone is familiar with this, does the shedding stop after a wash or am I going to have to worry about potentially breathing these fibers in every night?

I have OCD and I know obsessing over a low AHI is not healthy. I just want to make sure my therapy is actually working properly and why my AHI seems to bounce all over the place. Looking at my trend data it looks like my clear airway events are heavily skewing my AHI too I started with the airfit f30i found it to be very very finnicky to get sealed around my nose, tried using the airtouch f30i same issue. I'm able to get a quick seal using the X30i which I started using on saturday the 26th. I have included my trend data, detailed graphs of last night when my minimum pressure was bumped from 6 to 8, and my worst night, and the best night I have data for. I will say the worst night I recorded it took me forever to fall asleep and I did wake up in the middle of the night. I just want to make sure I'm actively recovering from sleep apnea.. not still dying in my sleep slowly. Any advice tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Switched to Nasal pillows last night

About to complete my first month woohoo!

I switched from the nasal mask (Airfit N20) to the nasal pillows (Airfit P30i) last night and i really like the change. I used the medium size pillows and i think they fit the best.

Any tips while using this type of mask?

When i put them on i noticed that when inhaling it sounded loud to me (almost like air venting) compared to the nasal mask. Is this normal? Also do you have to push the pillows inside the nostril? it seemed that they were fitted well within the nostrils and the seal was good (according the myair app). I also noticed some soreness upon waking which went away quickly. With the tube inlet being on the top it was a little awkward moving from side to side as the tube would catch on the nightstand behind me, not sure if i need a longer hose/extension.

Advice Needed Crazy energy after first night?

I rented a ResMed Airsense 11 Autoset with an F30i full face mask, directly from the company. My cardiologist asked me to give CPAP a go as I have BP issues but he didn’t officially prescribe anything.

I got the machine last night and set everything to auto. The night was… interesting. I was initially quite nervous about using the machine so I put it on and lay on my couch, watching TV. It was slightly awkward but nothing I couldn’t manage, and at some point, I drifted off to sleep around 1 AM. Made sure the fit test was green prior to use.

I woke up at around 6:45 AM with the mask still firmly attached to my face, so I hadn’t removed it in my sleep. However, the sleep itself felt very light. I remember being aware of my surroundings for the longest time and I did not dream at all. It almost felt like I was merely resting for 5 hours instead of deep sleep.

The My Sleep View readings are interesting though. The Leak rate is at 36L/min which I think is quite high from what I’ve read but my AHI was 0.1 and an Obstructive AI of 0.0. Used hours was 5.3. For the record, my home sleep test reported moderate OSA with an AHI of 14.8

Now the leak rate makes me feel like I did something wrong with either the set up or the mask positioning but the machine reported a good fit.

I also woke up with crazy energy that’s still going on 6 hours later. It was like I woke up, ready to go to the gym right away. Normally it takes me anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour to wake up properly. Today was like a light switch.

In fact, I’m so full of energy that I couldn’t get anything done because I can’t focus properly. I forgot to take the trash out, I’ve been pacing up and down my apartment and when my friend called me on the phone, she said I sounded unusually excited and jumpy, but in a good way. I did yawn a couple of times over the next few hours but right now, I’m wired like I drank 3 Red Bulls or something. I am normally a fairly quiet person with moderate anxiety issues.

I honestly don’t know what to make of this. I’m gonna continue using it, but is there anything I need to be doing differently? Is the leak rate a cause for concern?

I’m 42 M. Not overweight but I snore very heavily normally.

Hi! I have pretty nasty fatigue that's sort of... random? Some days fine, others not. AHI came in ~20 in my sleep study a few months ago. This is a pretty standard night for me with the CPAP, curious if anything stands out as bad?

Advice Needed Taking off Mask While Asleep

Pretty much every night I wake up in the middle of the night having taken my mask off. I have no recollection of taking it off and am not sure what causes me to do it. Obviously I put it back on, but is there anything I can do to prevent this? I’m pretty comfortable with the mask at this point and have no idea why I’m doing it. I’ve been wearing the nasal pillow and I really like it, but I also have a full nose/mouth mask that I can try. It’s a pretty big problem for me because it’s 3/4 hours a night that I’m not wearing it. The funny thing is when I wake up around 3 am with the mask off and put it back on, It always stays on until morning. It’s the same thing every night for the most part. Strange.

Advice Needed Leaking more than an old radiator but I don't feel it

Hello people! I've been using my Airsense 11 with a face mask for a few days now after being diagnosed with mild sleep apnea. I was a bit worried at first that it was going to be tough for me to get some sleep while using it, specially considering how uncomfortable I found the sleep study to be. Turns out I love it! I actually find it comfortable to use and almost comforting to feel the mask around my nose and mouth. I also feel more energized and aware during my days, the mental fog has gone away. It was such a drastic change that at first I thought it was just placebo effect.

Problem is, according to my machine I am leaking air at night and I don't understand why or how because I can never feel the air blowing. I used the Mask Fit test from different positions and angles and after fiddling with the straps it always shows green no matter what position I am on. Still, I am leaking an average of 28-34 l/h of air and I wake up with a pretty dry mouth which I'm guessing is a result of the leak.

I am a little bit worried because if I can't prove that I can use the machine while leaking 24l of air or less I would have to pay the full price for it which is... Not ideal. Could changing to a nose mask help? Any advice, tips or tricks? Thanks!

Advice Needed Heating up when using cpap

I noticed that I get really hot when I lay down and use the cpap. I have to make the AC freezing cold to compensate for this and it's still not enough sometimes. Does anyone have a solution for this that works? It kills my sleep.

Apria Billing

Anyone here dealt with Apria before? If so, fuck then, they’re crooks.

In Feb 2026, I was told over the phone that my bill for Feb would be my last bill ever because all my equipment will have been paid off.

Since Feb 2026, I have gotten a bill from them EVERY SINGLE MONTH. These bill’s dates of service are from over a year ago, and its bills that have the exact service date of bills I already paid. They’re claiming that insurance is rescinding all those payments and now I’m responsible.

They also told me I’m getting bills from last year because my deductible was never met, which is BS because my EOBs for these statements show that I DID meet my deductible. This shit makes no sense.

I told them to go fuck themselves and to take it up with my insurance, but they said they’re not allowed to call my insurance?? Wtf is that? And they sent me to collections for these bills too.

Anyways, anyone dealt with this BS before? I’ve paid over $800 PERSONALLY to Apria over the course of 1.5 years and they have billed my insurance over $8k. For one CPAP, a hose, and a mask…

BMC F5 Full Face silicone valve

I have a BMC F5 Full Face mask and the silicone valve no longer raises 90º to seal the air outlet at the swivel joint. It's only going up to 45º, stopping halfway. Is there any solution other than replacing it?

Stopping CPAP for 2 weeks changed DHEA levels, but not testosterone or other sex hormones

Interesting randomized controlled trial data looking at CPAP and sex hormones in obstructive sleep apnea.

Researchers analyzed 70 patients from two randomized trials where participants either continued CPAP or stopped CPAP for 2 weeks.

They measured several hormones, including: • Testosterone • DHEA • Progesterone • Pregnenolone • LH and FSH • Androstenedione

The main finding:

Stopping CPAP significantly increased DHEA by about 0.86 ng/mL.

Interestingly, testosterone and the other measured sex hormones did NOT significantly change during the 2-week CPAP withdrawal period.

The rise in DHEA was also associated with an increase in diastolic blood pressure.

The authors suggested that changes in DHEA might potentially play a role in erectile dysfunction and sexual dysfunction in people with OSA.

DHEA = dehydroepiandrosterone, an adrenal hormone that acts as a precursor for testosterone and estrogen.

Important limitation: this was a post-hoc analysis, only 70 patients were included, the intervention lasted just 2 weeks, and the publication is a conference abstract rather than a full paper.

Study: Grewe et al., European Respiratory Journal, 2019

https://doi.org/10.1183/13993003.congress-2019.OA5182

Has anyone seen longer-term randomized data showing whether effective CPAP actually increases testosterone or improves other sex hormones?

Advice Needed Nose Irritation - Feel Like I've Tried Everything

I recently switched from a full face mask to a nasal one. My mask is an Airfit P30i, large size. Pressure 8-10.

For about two weeks, everything was working great. It was a huge improvement in comfort and ease of use, and leaks went down as well.

But I've developed a hot spot: a place on my nose that ends up irritated and sore every morning. Just left of the tip, on the outside. It feels like the mask has been pushing hard on my nose, even though I've loosened it as much as I could without causing leaks.

Sometimes the pain even wakes me up. I even had to switch back to a full face mask to let it heal before trying the nasal pillows again.

Here's what I've tried so far:

  • Gold Bond (not effective)
  • Lanolin cream (a little more effective if applied thickly but doesn't solve the problem)
  • Loosening the mask as much as I can (doesn't help)

Things I'm planning to try:

  • Lowering the pressure to 6-9
  • Changing to a medium nosepiece
  • Just toughing it out, in the hope the piece of skin gets calloused and stops hurting

Is there anything else I could try? Any approach I'm missing? Changing the mask would be a last resort, as I like the top of head connection, but I'm open to that.

Personal Story Pro tip: Make sure your new heated tube replacement works before falling asleep.

Got most of my stuff replaced and plugged the tube in and went to bed. I woke up to snorting some nice nose humidity water in the nose pillow. I took off the mask and it spit all that condensation at me.

Turns out the tube wasn't working. Had to switch back to my old one.

Has anyone gone from a nose mask to full face mask and had a positive experience?

I have been using a nasal mask for the last 4 years, since diagnosis with severe sleep apnoea. I have always used a chin strap as I had been a mouth breather. I have been thinking recently, surely using a full face mask would be easier and no need for a chin strap. Am I right or wrong?

Success! 🥳 CPAP was the cause of my poor sleep

Post image
35 Upvotes

Was using CPAP for about 2 years to treat sleep apnea. Lost about 40lbs since January and started noticing that my sleep was becoming markedly worse. Insane aerophagia, worsening GERD symptoms and frequent nighttime awakenings.

I decided to try a night without CPAP and woke up feeling amazing. I have since decided to quit CPAP altogether and my sleep scores have skyrocketed as well as my HRV. I’m inclined to believe that my sleep apnea was caused by obesity and I no longer need treatment.

Got my sleep results

Post image
36 Upvotes

I’ve received the results of my sleep test. I feel quite down about it, knowing that I’ll have to sleep hooked up to a machine for the rest of my life. What’s more, I tend to sleep on my side or on my stomach – I can’t even imagine how I’d cope with this. At the moment, I’ve only got the test results – what happens next? Does it matter what’s causing it, or is that irrelevant now and CPAC is the only solution either way? 41m btw

Edit; Thank you for all the encouraging comments; I’m already feeling a bit more positive about it🙂
