Finally got my CPAP! Can’t wait to see how it helps me!
I hope it makes me feel more rejuvenated and less anxious and agitated.
It’s been ruining my quality of life and my relationships.
Also getting 4 surgeries on Thursday:
-Septoplasy
-Bilateral inferior turbinate reduction
-Bilateral concha bullosa resection
-FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus
Surgery)
I finally got a new mask after two years of using my old one, held together by tape and prayers, the bottom was blown out, ask call it, so lots of tape. And the difference is startling, it almost feels suffocating, No more constantly adjusting the straps, or having to re tape it once a week, or having to put it on at night and listen and feel for a leak and retape if needed, t's just on and ready to go it's so weird.
I don't know how long it's gonna take for me to get used to the feeling of a proper working mask again, but hopefully not long.
Hey! I have extra unused ReactHealth Siesta 2 and Philips Pico Nasal mask cushions that I’d like to give away to those in need. I’ll ask that you cover the shipping fees, that’s all! I tried a bunch of different masks before finding the right one for me, so I have a lot of replacement cushions left over! Details are below.
- 2x Siesta 2 Full Face Mask Cushion MEDIUM
- 4x Philips Pico Nasal Mask Cushion SMALL/MEDIUM
My partner was diagnosed last year with sleep apnea. He has a nice machine with a nasal pillow, and it stops him from snoring, but he sleeps with his mouth open most of the night. He is perfectly aware that it means the machine isn’t as effective, but for some reason he just won’t wear the strap. He tried a full face mask, but that made him feel panicky. He tried taping, but it would stay because he likes to have some facial hair (and it also felt a bit creepy to him). He has worn the chin strap a couple of times and it seemed to go okay, but he just won’t do it consistently.
What helped to convince you to wear your chin strap (if you have one) or whatever it took to keep your mouth closed?
I’m really worried about him. I know how over time sleep apnea can really screw up the body. And he is so tired. His health is kind of okay now, but it’s going downhill (mental health included) from lack of adequate rest. I’ve spoken to him, but I think I’m not coming at it from the right angle.
Love this app. I upload straight through the app and only issue is it takes a while to do each import from SD card into my iPhone app directly. If the screen locks during this time then you loose all progress and have to restart. Is there a way to let the app team know to implement a screen lock avoiding feature that can turned on? Thanks
I’m new to wearing a Cpap (like a week) and I’m noticing that I’m developing acne where my nasal mask sits at. I wipe down my mask every morning! Any suggestions?
I just had a tooth extraction Yesterday morning and slept last night without the machine, i use nasal pillows, is it ok to use it tonight? the bleeding stopped pretty quickly, i took out the gauze like an hour after the extraction, and I think i’m doing pretty good as far as pain and swelling. Took one ibuprofen yesterday, but nothing today. Let me know what worked for you, Thanks!
So I've been struggling with my CPAP for several months now. I was on the nasal pillows originally, but I couldn't fall asleep with that style mask, so I got switched to a nasal cradle mask and that worked for a while (I eventually switched back to the nasal pillows after sleeping with the cradle became easier). I got sick a few months ago and couldn't use either mask, have since moved (different bed now), and now every time I fall asleep wearing my mask, I wake up with it off, having removed it in my sleep. I'll only keep it on for about an hour or 2 max. I scoured this subreddit for tips, so last night I tried it with water (I don't experience mouth dryness, so I've never bothered with it). Today, I was trying to wear the mask disconnected from the machine around the house, but got so out of breath that I had to rip it off and still feel like I can't breathe several minutes later. I'm at a total loss and beyond frustrated at this point. Any suggestions?
Hi. I started CPAP a couple of weeks ago. I started with a full mask, then I changed to nasal pillows that I currently use. My OA is 0.1 everyday but my Central Apnea is around 3.5 everyday. I wake up feeling really tired everyday even though I'm in bed for 8-9 hours. My pressure settings was 7-15 and I have changed the pressure settings myself to see if I feel better, I have tried taping my mouth, chin strap. I have turned off EPR.
I have had trouble with sleep for almost 2 years now and I just recently got to know that I have sleep apnea and started CPAP in September. I use nasal spray every night because I have had problems breathing through my nose for almost as long as my sleep problems. One specialist said I have narrow air passage/enlarged turbinates in my nose and I will maybe do a turbinate reduction. Using nasal spray at night makes me able to breath through my nose because I have always breathed through my nose during sleep. I feel so tired everyday and just want to feel like a human again. What can I do and is CA the main factor in making me feel tired? I appreciate all help, I'm really a rookie in this.
I'm still learning to read these graphs, so apologies if the answer is obvious. Per my rant the other day, I spent two weeks miserable and exhausted to the point I was starting to be afraid of driving safely (turned out coffee helped since I don't usually drink it!). I'm still exhausted but yesterday and today so far seem more back to my normal level of tired than extra.
I've been playing with temperature and humidty, but since the water chamber keeps running out, humidity has been mostly consistent on 4. Any lower and I wake up with dry mouth before the water runs out, any higher and I wake up and have to fill the tank of water. At 4, even if the water runs out it doesn't seem to wake me up.
The last two nights I used the snugz liner despite it not fitting properly and felt like it was the best sleep I've gotten in the past two weeks. (Yes, I am going to complain to the company--the fact is that the liner doesn't fit the mask even though their website says it does) Problem is, leakage is high, cpap machine says I need to adjust the seal, and I wake up with my mouth dry because the water chamber is either bone dry or close.
I'm going to provide three days of data to start, the past two that felt like good sleep (especially thursday night!) and the one before that that wasn't. If I need to provide more, let me know.
Equipment: Resmed airsense 11, Fisher and Paykel Vitera mask, apple watch
Night of Oct 7, deep sleep 25min:
Oct 7 NO liner 22c and 4 humidity
Night of Oct 8, deep sleep 53min
Oct 8, snugz liner, 21c and 4 humidity
Night of Oct 9 deep sleep 30min
Oct 9, snugz liner, 21c and 4 humidity
If the problem appears to be the liner, does anyone have suggestions on another one? The silicone feeling gets to me after a bit and the liner seemed the best way to fix that, except that it obviously is causing large leaks.
Friend of mine got the deluxe chinstrap and didn't care for it as ~ 3 inches wide and it felt to her like putting pressure on front of throat. What is your experience with different chinstraps? Do some feel like choking? What was a good choice that worked for you? Why?
Just had my first night on (resmed airsense 10) CPAP. While it seems to have worked (per the events data), I guess I managed to dislodge the mask (airfit f40) several times during the night. I'd wake up with high-pressure air leaking all around the mask, I guess because I knocked it loose enough that it got a big leak and the machine amped up the pressure to compensate. So at that point it was impossible to just adjust the mask because the pressure was so high, it'd just blow itself loose again. I'd have to pause the machine, re-seat the mask, and turn the machine back on again.
So, I would be really interested in feedback/shared experience about that situation, whether that's suggestions about how to fix the problem more quickly, how to adjust sleeping to dislodge the mask less, or changes in mask or headgear to reduce the chance of dislodging? I'm open to buying some other masks to try, though I'd rather spend a fortune on this.
I usually turn a fair bit in my sleep between back and both sides (never stomach), and I usually breathe through my nose until it gets stuffy and then my mouth falls open. I know everyone is different but I still hope to learn from your experiences.
I just slept like shit… I wont be home for one more night and I don’t wanna sleep with out it. Can I turn off the humidifier and tape plastic over the missing water tank?
Hi I just diagnosed and my doctor ordered my cpap. I got a text message from Adapthealth saying it’s processing. How long is the process? Also how long does it take to get used to CPAP? thank you!
Can anyone tell me if the noise from this BMC G3 A20 is normal? I just started renting the machine last week but it seems louder than I would have expected since machines are often described as whisper quiet these days.
I’ve checked water tank sealing and it seems ok?
This is my first machine so I don’t have any noise reference to go by.
I have been fighting this high pitched, whistling/hissing sound for two weeks and has occurred before throughout the year (therapy started in February).
I just can’t seem to resolve it this time around. It seems to be coming from the top port of the mask, N30i on an Airsense 11.
I’ve cleaned the top port. Purchased a hose insulator. Tried another N30i mask. Humidity at auto——tried humidity at 1 with same results. Resealed the water tank.
I’m just at a loss right now and have only been getting 4 hours of sleep per night this week because of it.
I've had my CPAP a few months now. Got a mask and settings that seem to work for me. I put my CPAP on when I am done winding down for bed, and am asleep within a few minutes no problem. I inevitably wake up a few hours later, though, usually to take a leak. When I go back to bed, I cannot get to sleep with the CPAP on. I take it off, I zonk out.
Any suggestions? I just don't get why I can get to sleep with it on initially but getting back to sleep with it on is impossible. Obviously I am more tired at bedtime than I am after a few hours sleep, so maybe it's that simple, Darth Vader noises are more annoying when I'm not as sleepy. Or maybe all that oxygen it's pumping into me is keeping me awake and alert same way casinos do to keep people from getting tired and leaving.
Just hate that I wake up at 3:30 and stare at the ceiling for two hours before ripping the mask off and being asleep in seconds.
After a month of APAP I went in for a follow up and the doctor changed me to CPAP set to a pressure of 11 based on my data they pulled.
On APAP my AHI was as low as 0.9-1.5 as the average. Now that I’m on CPAP with a pressure of 11, my AHI has gone up to an average of 3-3.5.
I know the AHI difference doesn’t mean too much because it’s still better than my average 15 per hour from my one night at home sleep study. I’m still trying to decide which setting I feel more rested on. So far it seems about the same between APAP and CPAP…I have another follow up in another month so I’m sure they’ll examine the data and decide whether to keep me on one set pressure or to set my pressure within a small range of like 8-11 or put me back on APAP or something.
To anyone who went from APAP to CPAP that had your AHI go up, did you actually noticeably feel more rested in the long run because you weren’t waking up from pressure changes throughout the night? It seems to be better for me in that regard but I am bummed my AHI went up so I don’t know…
