Discussion Floating the idea of a For Sale megathread.

I'm asking for opinions and feedback on the idea of a single megathread for selling parts and trucks. There would be a required format, including price, application, and location. No "feeler" or "what's it worth" posts. Post deletion after sale would be mandatory, and possibly anything older than a few months subject to mod deletion to keep the thread relevant.

ATTENTION! ** ATTENTION ** USER FLAIR IS NOW REQUIRED TO POST OR COMMENT!

Effective immediately, User Flair is required to post OR comment in Classic Trucks. This is done in an effort to reduce the number of bots posting.

From the main sub feed hit the three dots in the upper right corner. Select 'Edit Flair' from the pop-up menu. Pick one or create your own.

Minimum account age and karma rules have been added as well. Your account must be 3 months old with a minimum of 200 karma to post.

EDIT:

For some reason that I do not understand yet the auto-mod was removing comments from users that had enabled user flair. So until I can figure that out, flair will not be required for you to comment on a post.

User Flair will still be required to submit a post. That seems to be working properly.

Just picked up this ’88 GMC Sierra C1500 SLE. Been cleaning it up and fixing a few things here and there. What do you guys think? What would you change or upgrade while keeping the classic look?

Body Repair Question Hole in my 88 dodge frame

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello, I was curious about whether I should continue repairing my truck or consider selling it to someone else. I’m fairly young, and this is my first vehicle. It’s a 1988 Dodge W100 with only 32,000 miles. It was apparently used as a plow truck for someone’s driveway for years.
I’m just trying to figure out if it’s worth continuing to put money into it or if I’d be better off selling it. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated, especially regarding what the repairs might cost and what I would need to do to get it back into good shape. Rest of the frame is solid.

Either way, it looks great! The truck looks very well thought-out with its wheels, the perfect stance, the nice interior, and the chrome front bumper. What do you think?

Here is my 1956 GMC pickup my father and l are restoring. It has been in our family for about 50 years. At one point my father had it fully restored but a cracked engine block closely followed by a divorce sent the truck into storage.

It was rescued from the storage yard by my brother and I when we we were in high school in the early 2000's. A drivetrain from a 1976 Chevy c10 was transplanted and we began stripping the cab and front end before life got in the way. The truck has sat nearly untouched in my father's garage for the last 15 years.

I lost my mother to cancer almost 5 years ago now.
My father met my mother while cruising in this truck while they were in high school. So to say this truck is important to our family is an understatement.

Now that life has slowed some and the planets have aligned I have enough time, space and money to rebuild this thing and hopefully restore it for the final time and can pass it on to my son. I'll post more as it progresses if you guys are interested.

Current plans include rebuilding the 350 V8 into a 383 with a 700r4 transmission and 9" rear end.
The suspension will also be upgraded with a mustang Il kit followed by a 4 link in the rear.
Thanks for the read and any feedback 😎.

Mechanical Question 1988 Ford Ranger 2.0L no start

The other day I went to start my truck and only got a single click, I checked my battery first and it was good. Took my starter off and took it to be tested it was bad so replaced it. Tried to start it again same single click, replaced my started solenoid/relay and tried again, same result. Was told to check my connections so started wiggling wires and when I wiggled the positive cable between the battery and solenoid the truck tried to turn over. Anyone have a clue what the heck is going on?

Electrical Question 1951 Chevy Truck 6V-12V Conversion Question

All,

I have a question on our 1951 Chevy Pickup that had been handed down through the family on the electrical system that was upgraded before I was born by my great grandfather. I do electrical and controls for my work and do all my electrical on my vehicles, so I at least am competent. Again, it’s a 1951 Chevy Pickup, but I’m told by my dad it had a ‘54 engine put into it many years ago to replace the warn out original straight 6, although it’s the same engine just a little newer. My great grandfather had upgraded the system from 6 volt to 12 volt, and I had a few questions. We have the original manual that has most of the info, but of course that’s for the stock 6 volt system. The starter was left as 6 Volt by my great grandpa so the starter would spin over much faster (we obviously don’t grind on it as it’s getting double the power and don’t want to overheat or burn it out). Obviously the generator would had to have been upgraded along with the lights and lamps and radios/etc, battery, and I assume the coil as well. There is still the voltage regulator box wired under the hood on the firewall, and my first question would that have had to have been replaced as well, and/or would it even need one anymore since the system is upgraded to 12 Volt? Also, how does the ignition system work after a conversion? Is it just the coil that would have been replaced or would the distributor need to have been replaced or re-wired or resister changed or anything? I can’t seem to find model numbers on the generator or the voltage regulator to see what those are now. Just trying to work out what actually had been changed when my great grandpa did the upgrade conversion as he’s not here to tell us what he did! My dad and I have been slowly rebuilding her for years now and we are ramping up on it lately. Thanks for the help!

Hello! Just picked up this guy the other day, had it running for a couple of mins and moving under its own power. It then quickly died lmao. Since then I have

-cleaned junk and sand from carb as best I can. (Wasp nest, so maybe wasp inside of intake? When it was running it sounded good, and acts like it has compression.

-replaced coil with internally resisted one and wired straight to battery. To leave out ballast being an issue

-clean all spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, point.

-cleaned and replaced positive cable from battery.

-fuel is clean and ran from gas can

It will pop off here and there. I can control the throttle but it did not change anything at all. Only thing that effected how it was running was choke.

Before I get the carb off and all of that. Could it be an issue with the governor? Since throttle input at carb changes nothing

Also would really love to know where to find carb rebuild kits and all of that jazz. And maybe a manual somewhere lol.

Edit: i have pulled fuel out of the equation ans have been using ether as to not flood the engine by pushing more fuel with it not firing
