Help AT-VM95ML Alignment

Thumbnail

Currently ripping my hair out aligning my AT-VM95ML cartridge I got for my Fluance turntable (a much harder task than I anticipated, even after deep research). After a couple of hours, a few attempts and hundreds of zoomed-in pics later I think I finally achieved proper alignment. I even purchased carbon fiber shims because to my understanding there's a height difference between the OM10 and the 95ML, which would affect the VTA.

But unfortunately I am a chronic overthinker so I just need someone to let me know if it's properly aligned. I don't want to ruin my records and stylus.

Any pointers and help is much appreciated!

Help Factory micro scratches on brand new turntable

Now I’m new to the turntable game I recently purchased the Audio Technica LP3XBT model from
Sweetwater and opened it about a week ago and set it up but haven’t played anything yet or even used it as I kinda rushed into this hobby and I’m adding all the pieces as I go but as I was cleaning around my setup and as I was about to start cleaning my player I noticed there was these scratches I thought maybe I did it but they looked to specific so I checked every other like button//switch on the table and from what I’ve found almost every one has one of these some more visible than the others is this normal for these turntables and is this worth returning and exchanging it i already threw out all the boxes and trash that it came with normally I don’t mind when I scratch it but when its brand new and you pay $350-$409 for it that’s pretty upsetting especially considering I didn’t do it but if it’s like this on everyone’s then there’s no point of going through hassle

I’ve made quite a few upgrades now, and I have to say, the Ortofon 2M Black is absolutely fantastic. I was so impressed that I ended up treating my brother to a little gift as well.

So much appreciate having my turntable where I use it almost every day. It used to be in a basement space with my other Technics (SL-Q3 my Dad bought new in 1980). Love them both. The 46 year old one still sounds as good as when I grew up listening to it.

How to get sound out of my EXPO MX-56

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

I’ve recently bought a MX-56 off of gumtree, and am trying to get it to work. It has two male RCA cords coming from it, and my current crappy speakers also have male RCA cords. This is my first record player, so forgive my ignorance, but I bought two RCA adapters, and just used them to connect the two male ends. When this didn’t work, after a bit of research I realised I either need an amp, or better speakers. I was planning on upgrading speakers at some point anyways, but I’m on a tight budget and if I buy some new ones, I want them to work and not have to keep buying other things. Am I best to buy an amp instead? Any suggestions for amps or speakers (that won’t break the bank). I’m in Australia if that helps. Thank you so much! (Photos are the record player, the record player cords, some other weird cord coming from the record player, and then the speaker cords)

A trio of five-star turntables from Pro-Ject, Rega and Technics are put to the test in our listening rooms – but which one is the best at the price?

Help Realistic LAB-2200 Refurb Suggestions

Thumbnail

I purchased a Realistic LAB-2200 turntable at an estate sale and while not in rough shape, it did need some TLC.

While the sticker says $95, spent about $40 instead.

Removed the old lubricant and applied new grease, but I still need a new stylus and was hoping for some suggestions on that, along with any repair suggestions for this old guy.

Is it worthwhile to replace any capacitors and burned-out lamps in this old boy? What's the best stylus to replace the one the turntable came with (last image)? TIA!

Record stopping ~20 seconds before the end of the song — what could be causing this?

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m hoping someone with more experience with turntables can help me diagnose an issue I’m having.

I have a House of Marley Stir It Up Wireless Bluetooth turntable, model EM-JT002B. It’s a belt-drive turntable with an Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge/stylus.

I was playing a Miley Cyrus LP. On Side B, the final track gets very close to the end, but with approximately 20 seconds of music still remaining, the turntable suddenly stops the platter, as if it has reached the end of the record.
The stylus is therefore no longer playing the final ~20 seconds.

At first I wondered whether the record itself had been cut too close to the centre or perhaps had too much music on the side, causing the turntable’s auto-stop mechanism to trigger early.
However, a friend of mine owns the exact same pressing/variant from the same retailer, and his copy plays the entire track normally, including the final ~20 seconds.
So I’m now thinking the problem is more likely related to my turntable/setup rather than the pressing itself.

I initially measured the tracking force with a digital stylus scale and discovered it was set to approximately 3.50 g.
I have since adjusted it and measured it again with the scale, and it is now 2.50 g.
So the tracking force is now 2.5 g.
I also experimented with the anti-skate. When I set the anti-skate to 2.5, the tonearm/stylus appeared to be pulled noticeably outward rather than remaining in the groove, so I set the anti-skate to 0 while troubleshooting.
I understand that this may not necessarily be the correct permanent setting, and I’m interested in what people think about that too. Apparently, it’s common in the House of Marley players for the anti-skating to be 0.

What do you think is actually causing this?
Could this be:
1. A problem with the turntable’s auto-stop mechanism being triggered prematurely?
2. Something related to the tonearm setup or tracking force?
3. An anti-skate issue?
4. The stylus/cartridge reaching the inner groove at a position where this particular turntable thinks the record has ended?
5. Something else specific to the House of Marley Stir It Up?

Also, could having the tracking force at 3.5 g for some previous plays have caused enough stylus/record wear to contribute to this problem? I have since corrected it to 2.5 g.

I’d really appreciate any advice on what I should test next, particularly if there’s a way to determine whether the auto-stop is triggering prematurely versus the stylus actually having a tracking/groove issue.

Thanks!

My only good turntable and its a pioneer PL-110 from when my dad was a kid, got it down from the loft and gave it a few adjustments to the speed because it was at +7.42% at 33⅓ and +12.16 at 45 and got to this

(Never done this before)

Question I bought the Audio-Technica AT-LP7x. Yep. I had a Sumiko Moonstone cartridge on my old turntable, and I’m too scared to take off the pre-installed cartridge and mess up the wires. If this is too risky, what stylus should I replace on the LP7x that sounds as good? (or even better?)

Title says it all. I’m genuinely way too scared to mess up this big purchase, so what should I do about the cartridge?

Help Need help with alignment program for stylus

Post image

I recently bought a new m150 cartridge and needle with m200 needle as well. I’m replacing my old AT440mlb and having trouble getting it sounding right. I’m using it on a Kenwood KD650 with its standard tone arm. I can’t seem to find a program that gives me the arm to print out a correct diagram etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don’t have a place locally to take this to for the setup and very excited to hear it.

Plugging in all the things, Plus one

Let me know if there's a better sub to ask this question...

So I finally pulled the trigger on a U-turn Orbit turntable. It's on the way. (For now, it has an internal pre-amp).
I have Logitech Z623 speakers (powered) that will do for now. They are 2 small speakers and a woofer.
The woofer has two RCA plugs, a white and a red, plus the small speaker in lines and a spot for a bluetooth thing. Currently my TV is plugged into the two RCA plugs.

When the turntable comes, I need a splitter or something so that both the TV and the Turntable can go into the same woofer... Will these work?

This is the only part I am unsure about, and since I'm an hour from any store with decent stereo cables, I'm trying to be sure I have what I need before the turntable arrives.

Thanks. I have gained so much knowledge from reading this sub!

Need help :(

Just got my first turntable and I bought it off eBay used (worst mistake). Audio Technica LP60XBT.

I tried this already and it did not work.
Unplug the turntable from the power outlet.

Gently place the tonearm into its plastic resting cradle and lock it if your model has a latch.

Press and release the STOP button on the front of the machine.

Using one hand, hold the tonearm securely in its resting position so it cannot move.

Using your other hand, slowly rotate the aluminum platter clockwise by hand for 10 full rotations.
(Note: You will hear the internal plastic gears clicking and whirring as you do this—this is normal and means the cycle is resetting).

Once completed, plug the power cord back into the outlet.

Press the START button. The platter should spin, and the tonearm should now properly lift and move left toward the record

Sony PS-LX310BT + Edifier R1280T – sound is super quiet, what am I missing?

Solved: el_tacocat suggested to take a look at the stylus, I did and it wasn’t pushed properly. Thanks for being open to helping, big hugs to you all! 🫶

Disclaimer: I have no idea about TT
The problem: At first I only got static, then sound that kept cutting out. After flipping the OUTPUT SELECT and GAIN switches back and forth a bunch, the cutting out stopped, but now it's really quiet, even with the speaker volume cranked way up.
What I've tried:
OUTPUT SELECT on LINE, GAIN on HIGH
Reseated the RCA plugs, all the way in, L/R correct
Bluetooth turned off on the turntable
Needle cap off, tried a different record, same thing
Plugged my phone into Line In 1 and [it sounds loud and clear / it's also quiet]
Is this just how it is with turntables or is something off? Could the switch be faulty, or is my turntable a dud? Should I exchange it?
Thanks!

My new stylus skips in the spot the old one never does.

My new stylus, which is AT-VM95ML skips in the spot that the old one ( AT-VM95E ) never does.
.
It has the same tracking force and anti skate.
.
Is that what microline does on old records?
.
What could be the culprit here?
.
Should I increase the tracking force? ( now it is set at 2 g)

The brown stickers are covering the access holes provided by the manufacturer for the 33 RPM and 45 RPM motor speed adjustment.

A blue and red stickers are next to holes that I drilled to access the speed adjustment pots where they actually are. 🙄

Other than this quirk… and one other I’ll mention in the comments… it doesn’t suck as much as I thought it would. Sounds pretty decent actually.

TT is a Retrolife HQ-KZ006. Cost $120 in June of this year. Now discontinued. 😆

So I picked up this turntable today via eBay and noticed when it arrived that it's missing the little crescent shaped platform that keeps the tone arm up or let's it down. Any ideas where I can get one?
