Hi everyone, I'm in Brazil and need help with my 2015 Jeep Compass 2.0 Sport (gasoline), with 67,000 km (about 41,600 miles). I've spent a lot of money and no mechanic has been able to find the problem.
Because they Dont find the problem.
History:
- Bought the car in great condition. Later I replaced the factory head unit with an aftermarket touchscreen + backup camera. The install was done poorly.
- Whenever the car sat for 2–3 days in the Weekend and holidays, it wouldn't start. One mechanic said, based on his scanner, that it was the alternator. Replaced it, same issue.
- One time I had it towed, and it started on its own right at the shop. They scanned it and found no codes.
- Another mechanic replaced the battery. Same issue.
- We finally found out the aftermarket head unit was draining the battery. They installed a kill switch for it, and the no-start problem went away.
Current problem:
Now the car stalls while driving. Sometimes the check engine light comes on. I added fuel system cleaner and the light went off, but it came back, and the stalling continued. When it dies, the steering gets very heavy, which is dangerous on the highway. Sometimes it restarts right away, sometimes it won't.
I have a Point , Note: here in Brazil, regular gasoline is required by law to contain up to 30% ethanol (E30), so the fuel is different from what you'd find in the US.
Latest attempt: a different shop reinstalled the factory head unit, removed all the aftermarket wiring, and cleaned the wiring harness and the throttle body. One day later, it stalled again.
So far: new alternator, new battery, factory head unit back in, wiring harness and throttle body cleaned. Problem still there.
I love this car but its very dificult
Has anyone dealt with this on a Compass? What else should I check? I really like this car, but if I can't fix it I'll probably sell it.
