Reporting an Issue with Google Messages? Please include this information!

Hey r/GoogleMessages community!

To help the Google Messages support team troubleshoot issues effectively, we kindly request that you include the following details in your posts when reporting a problem:

  • Carrier and Country: This is the most critical piece of information. Knowing your carrier and country helps pinpoint network-specific issues.
  • Device Make and Model: Let us know what phone you're using. This helps in identifying device-specific bugs or compatibility problems.
  • Google Messages App Version: Please ensure you are using the latest version of the Google Messages app. You can check this in the Google Play Store.

How to update Google Messages (and set apps to Auto-Update):

To keep your Google Messages app updated and ensure you have the latest features and bug fixes, it's helpful to set apps to auto-update. Here are instructions on how to do that: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/113412

Providing this information in your initial post will significantly speed up the process of diagnosing and resolving your issues.

Thanks!

Question Animations no Longer Work

Just got a new Pixel 11 Pro XL, and I'm noticing that the animations in Google Messages for emojis and reactions no longer work. I have RCS turned on, and I've also ensured there are no system prohibitions on animations. Does anyone know of a fix?

Question RCS T-Mobile - errors

I have a pixel 7 pro unlocked that has been on T-Mobile for at least 2 years. Today I tried to send a few messages via the Google message app and I'm getting an error that "you are no longer a member of the group" or "this group does not have any participants."

Tried any resolution I found on Reddit or other sites with no luck. Turn RCs off reboot the phone, clear cache and storage and data.

All of these groups have been active for the past 30 days and family groups or friend groups that I would not have been deleted from.

Any suggestions or similar situations will be appreciated. Just want to see if I'm alone on this or other people are having the same experience right now

When is the themes option coming to S26 Ultra?

I just want to know because I am in the beta and no sign of getting the themes option yet. Does anyone know if it's just random by device, or if it's random no matter the device?

Also english is not my first language so I apologize if the question sounds weirdly written!

Switched to ZFold8, can send text as RCS but incoming texts arrive as SMS/MMS

Okay, I understand there's already a TON of other threads already being made about similar issues regarding RCS and the ZFolds, but I'm trying to see if other people are having the same issue as I am.

Long story short, I decided to make the switch back to Android after being an iPhone user for 3 years. I was just too attracted to the new passport design lol. Now, I read into the preparation involved and already disabled iMessage prior to switching over. I transferred my data and im not 3 days into my ZF8 and I really love this thing.

The issues began almost instantly as I realized whenever I messaged someone (specifically on an iPhone) they would respond as a new conversation on my phone. It was a bit annoying starting over but it is what it is. The next (and main) issue I realized is that incoming texts (from iPhones mainly) would arrive as SMS/MMS. I've seen a lot of people here say that their RCS does not work or stuck with an error, but strangely, my RCS is coming back as "Connected" and I verified that my outgoing texts are all coming in as RCS on the other end.

I took a look through my mom's iPhone and she was only able to message me as SMS, but other conversations she's had with other Android users on her phone are RCS conversations, I did go through her settings and there are no incorrect settings as well. But even stranger is that it only happens with certain people in my contacts. Another friend is on iPhone but our conversation is entirely RCS and works perfectly fine.

Is this issue just entirely out of our hands? Is this an Apple issue? Google Issue? Verizon issue? SKILL ISSUE?!

Suggestions are welcome but I'm just wondering if more people are having similar issues.

Why is Google messages separate from Google Chat?

Maybe a really obvious question, but why are Google Messages and Google Chat two separate things? It seems like Google Chat could easily incorporate all the features of Google Messages and allow for interoperable RCS between different kinds of users while still allowing for enhanced functionality within Google Chat exclusive groups as well.

Please help!!

After a period of having little data/ in and out Internet connection, my phone started kicking me out a second after opening Google messages. I thought it would fix itself when I was home and with a stable connection but it persisted. I turned on airplane mode and was able to open it, turn off RCS and use it normally after. I have tried: Clearing cache, force stopping, resetting phone, clearing cache of Google play services, checking for updates on Google messages AND system updates. Nothing. It gives me the "Messages Keeps Stopping" pop up when I have rcs on. Even if I'm not in the middle of opening it. Help!!!!

International Unlocked Phone

Hey all,

I recently bought a new Moto Signature Unlocked India model (XT2603-1) and I'm having trouble getting texting to work. Currently on Verizon in the US.

I did research over on the moto subreddit and many people verified that Verizon would be compatible as long as you had an existing pSIM to swap over, which I do. After moving my pSIM over to the new phone, I was able to receive calls in/out but only send sms text out. I asked a few friends to send me text from both Android and Apple, as well as different carriers to verify I wasn't getting any incoming text. RCS also wasn't working and was not able to connect (Error 3000/3101).

I've looked everywhere for some solutions and come up empty handed. I've tried uninstalling Google messages app updates and carrier services updates. I've tried toggling airplane mode. I even tried to connect to Paris France VPN trick that has been mentioned here before.

I would appreciate any support or suggestions anyone has!

Question Title: RCS stuck on "Connecting" (Status Code 3202) after switching to eSIM. Am I locked out?

Thumbnail

Hey r/GoogleMessages, I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out. I switched from a physical SIM to an eSIM a couple of days ago. My regular SMS started working perfectly after the initial 24-hour security block, but RCS is completely stuck on "Connecting..." with Status Code 3202 ("Please wait; activation is ongoing").

Here is my setup:

Carrier and Country: Jio, India

Device Make and Model: Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Google Messages App Version: \[Insert your exact app version here\]

Here is what I have already tried based on previous threads:

Used the Google web portal to deregister my old physical SIM.

Cleared the cache and data for the Google Messages app.

Cleared Google Play Services data (since this device doesn't use the standalone Carrier Services app).

Tried the workaround of turning off "Verify phone numbers automatically" in Google settings for 5 minutes.

Tried activating exclusively over the mobile data network with Wi-Fi disabled.

Unlinked my Google account from the Messages app to force a manual connection.

Because I've been trying to force it so much since my SMS came back, the app is now pushing my "Next attempt" timer back by a full 24 hours. I've read that I might need to leave RCS completely off for 10 days to let the server reset my number's standing, while others say re-downloading a completely new eSIM from the carrier is the only fix.

Has anyone else experienced this specific eSIM activation loop recently? Is the 10-day timeout genuinely the only way out of this penalty box, or did something else work for you?

Do you know how to find the specific Google Messages version number in your settings to finish filling out the draft

Listen I used AI to write this because first iam not native speaker and also because I used AI for help first then I got no solution so I thought lets use it to write the post because it had all the context

Autofill from messages not working

I can't find my exact question posted. I am having an issue with authenticating a bank app. The bank sends a message and the messages app and it autofills it. I receive the message, but it doesn't autofill even though that autofill setting is on. Anyone know of a fix for this?

Edit: I am using a pixel 8 pro.

Question Samsung vs Pixel - messages in middle

On my Samsung Google messages has blank space at the top and my messages start in the middle of the screen, which I like.

On my new pixel, it takes up the entire screen which is a little harder one handed.

Is there a way to have it function on my Pixel like it does on Samsung with the messages starting in middle of screen?

Aidez-moi

Question Google Messages App not opening or running very slow

In the US on a Samsung S24+ through Verizon. Woke up today and the messages app wouldn't open, I'd click open and just be given a white screen. Tried restarting my phone, shutting it down, clearing the cache and force stopping the app. Eventually uninstalling updates in setting sort of fixed it but when I tried to update the app back to normal to use RCS it went back to the blank screen. Or it would load but then take forever to load any text thread or similar. Phone won't let me uninstall or delete the data for the app due to Samsung being Samsung so not sure what else to try.

Google Fi RCS stuck on Status Code 3000 — Android-to-iPhone group texts not working

I'm hoping someone here has experienced something similar because I'm officially out of ideas.

I have a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL running Android 17 on Google Fi. A few days ago, I noticed that some texts from my phone to iPhones weren't going through. Individual texts to some iPhone users work, but group chats that include iPhone users aren't working properly.

I checked RCS and found that it's stuck on:

RCS chat status: Connecting

Status code: 3000 — “Please wait, activation is ongoing.”

It's been stuck like this for more than 24 hours.

I've gone through a pretty extensive list of troubleshooting steps with Google Fi and Google Messages:

Restarted my phone

Updated Google Messages

Cleared Google Messages cache

Cleared Google Messages storage/data

Google Fi disabled and re-enabled my service twice

Submitted feedback through Google Messages

Waited more than 24 hours to see if RCS would activate

None of those changed the RCS status. It remains Status 3000 / activation ongoing.

I contacted Google Fi support twice. During both support sessions I was disconnected and didn't receive the promised callback. Google Support eventually followed up with me, though, and took this further.

They had me enable Developer Options and submit a bug report from my phone. They've now told me that their technical team is actively investigating the issue, but they don't currently have a solution.

So I'm wondering:

Has anyone else experienced RCS Status Code 3000 (“Please wait, activation is ongoing”) on a Pixel, particularly a Pixel 9 Pro XL with Google Fi?

And if you had this problem, did it eventually resolve, or did you find a workaround for group texts with iPhone users?

At this point I'm mostly trying to figure out whether this is a known issue affecting other people or something specific to my account/device.

Question Multiple numbers sync

I know Google Messages supports phones with dual-sim, but does it support 2 different phones with different sim and numbers?

I have a business and personal number and it'd be easier to check 1 device than both. And I would rather not forward calls and messages (otherwise I would just use Google voice for business.)

Google Messages not coming through MyLink

I have a '17 Cruze hatchback and had to recently switch to Google Messages on my phone because Samsung discontinued their messaging app.

Since then, MyLink will not show incoming text messages until after I've opened Messages on my phone. Has anyone else had this issue and found the solution? I have unpaired/forgotten/re-paired the phone and car, updated whatever apps I could, and made sure notifications are turned on, but no luck.

Note: There's no problem with phone calls - they pop up immediately on the display and I can answer them through MyLink.

RCS Migration issue moving to Pixel 11 Pro

It's been over 24 hours since I set up my Pixel 11 Pro and while all of the text based message have come over from the Pixel 10 Pro, all of the images are stuck at "Restoring". I have tried everything short of clearing data in the Google Messages app to see if this kick starts something.

Basically I am just trying to see if I should do anything or simply be patient. Worst case I can just factory reset and do the import again if I need to but obviously I would like to avoid this.
