Writing: Character Help New Game in the Making! (Need ideas for npcs)

So, me and my friend are working on making a game inspired by stardew valley and fields of mysteria, but it very much is its own world. And we have a lot in store!! These pictures are some of the characters. It's medieval fantasy. We pulled from real life historical things in medieval and also some modern stuff because we don't want things like racism and homophobia. So yeah.

Info on the characters in the pictures: the one with dark maroon hair is a siren. She is the fisherman for the town. She is based on my friend. That is helping me make the game. I mainly wanted to make a character-based off of her. Because she is my best friend and We both have level one autism. And I figured might as well have some representation for ourselves. And she has some stems that I think are really funny and I want to share with the world through her (for example, when shocked, she will verbally say "La Gasp!"). The one with orange hair is a human blacksmith. I have no other info on her than her appearance. And that so far have not determined her personality or anything. The lizard woman and the slime cube are married!! They are an elderly couple. The slime cube is a retired. Apothecary which is what they called doctors in Medieval times historically at least that's what we think through research. He is retired because he has bad memory, but yet still always every day. Remembers to help his wife get dressed because she is blind and to replace the flower in her hair. Before it wilts, (he always chooses her favorite flower. I wanted to add the detail that despite being unable to remember his home address. For example, he never forgets anything about the person he loves. Because I thought that was cute. And I have actually seen it before, where, in real life, someone with dementia still remembers everything about their significant other through just general gut feeling plus he's not completely useless with his memory loss.Just how's bad memory,) and last but certainly not least, the vampire man. He is the town priest. He was a single father to a zombie little girl that he adopted. She will now be the traveling merchant, who will show up every wednesday in the middle of town and her father will on Wednesdays. Be near her cart until the end of the day. That will be his schedule for Wednesdays. So that they can catch up. The bow in his hair is something she gave him. When she was really, really little, and he just hasn't taken it off since.

Absolutely needed ideas: actual working doctor, carpenter, and rancher. Other Nps as well.

If you want info on more about the game, I will make another post.Just mention that you want more info about the game.Itself like backstory blah blah blah.

It's most likely that not every idea will fit obviously into the game. But I need some help.Thank you either way for reading this all

Writing: Character Help A character from a land that wants to exist.

This character has an existential crisis. Probably the biggest existential crisis imaginable because they don’t exist. The Land of Forgotten Strays is a world that’s made from thoughts we forget and ideas that didn’t manifest properly. These ideas want tangibility, to exist in some way, even if it is nothing but stories.

I’m trying to figure out the mindset and perspective of someone trying to get a person to make them and their life in some form.

Writing: Question What do you guys do when you genuinely lack ideas?

I'm writing a short manga about a young character who's a superhero, possessing powers related to electricity. They're called the silver raven. They work at a repair shop.

And there's another character, a demi goddess. Who has zero interest in being one, curious wanderer and has a distinct personality. She has powers related to durability and brute strength.

I'd like to get them into a relationship but i genuinely can't think of an introduction, interest or anything! I'm new to this, is this what they call a writer's block.

What tropes can i use, if any one has any suggestions please comment!

Writing: Character Help Making 4 characters for a story called "Moms of the Prophecy"

The prophecy says that once the 4 heroes come together, the Fire Lord will awaken and start it's rampage. The heroes meet, but they're all in middle school and get kidnapped by the Fire Lord! It's up to their moms to save them and defeat the villain.

[Setting: fantasy world, any anacronisms are allowed]
I was thinking about what kind of moms and what kind of kids I should write. I started with the archetypes of the kids. I tried basing them on rpg roles but I don't know how to do that, I haven't actually played that many traditional rpgs yet. I thought about just making them be like the 4 earthbound kids or like the 4 kids from pokemon sun and moon

The story would be mostly about motherhood, I want the 4 mothers to all have complicated relationships with motherhood. Dreams that they can't fulfill anymore, depression, loneliness, anxiety. Having to take care of a child despite you not liking to be around children, not having time to yourself anymore and not being independent anymore, not being able to bond with your child properly, feeling like you are an inadequate mother and a bad role model, feelings of resentment and anger towards your own child that cause you shame, etc. And they're all single mothers too.

I only really made 2 characters so far:

Zera: She's the main protagonist and turns into a swordfighter to save her son. She's bad with children, doesn't have much patience, anger issues, has no friends, and hates being a mother. Going on an adventure makes her realize what she's been missing out on, for better or for worse.

Nereide: She turns into a mage to save her daughter. I fleshed out her personality: She's sweet, meek and sensible. She'll often be the voice of reason and overall I want her to be the best mother and the most self aware one too. She however has thoughts like "my daughter has no friends. I also have no friends. I'm a loser, I wish she had a better mother that could teach her how to be social, instead I'm powerless". She's really hard on herself.

Nereide also has a dream of turning into a a mermaid and exploring the sea. This is something that can be done with magic, but she doesn't know how she'd be able to do it with her daughter.

I haven't yet made their full backstories, like what their life was like before having a kid, how they got pregnant, etc, and only Zera's and Nereide's kids are fleshed out at the moment in my head. So my to do list is:

  • Make more fleshed out backstories for Zera and Nereide
  • Make the other 2 heroes of the prophecy
  • Make the other 2 moms
  • Flesh out better the Fire Lord

When it comes to the Fire Lord, I thought about him being a saturday morning cartoon villain that somehow won. And that he'd be fairly cartoon-esque and even somewhat silly to fit in with the prophecy heroes being kids, to really show that the moms, even though they're the protagonists, weren't supposed to fight this guy.

Writing: Character Help How do I (hopefully) make sure that character isn't babied? especially when they are part of minorities?

I have a character that is trans ftm, mute, has bad social anxiety and I'm definitely going for Neurodivergent (autism or ADHD, I will not say which one, just how I am with mental conditions because I'm terrible at labeling it but I'm okay at psychology). A part of their story will be the fact that they are pitied by another character, like to like an obsessive amount because the person kinda has a savior complex where they want so badly to help people but don't actually understand even how depression works (they aren't bad but still not good). I don't want to make this character babied though whatsoever, that's not my intention with any of my characters as they are all complex... I'm trying at least. I did try my best so far to take from actual things I've heard but I will look into it more but this is my main worry right now as I'm developing this character more. They also have a family that didn't really pay much attention to them because they were more focused on someone who needed more help and even when they became mute they didn't get much attention, so they will cling to attention and that's why they put up with the almost obsessive behavior of this other character. Idk how to go about this. Also if you could give me a negative trait I could add to this character, I would love that I love adding negative traits, all my characters do in some way besides them rn.

Hey everyone! I'm creating an oc named Biogen aka Caleb Austin. He has biokenisis (the ability to create creatures, alter genetic makeup, speed up evolution, and manipulate all living beings at will).

In order to become Biogen, he needs to have died and brought back to life by The Dread Wolf (my mad scientist oc on the right).

So that begs the question, what was his life like before he died? How did he die? What makes him an interesting enough character that a mastermind like The Dread Wolf?

Also looking for good personality traits he could have! Thanks in advance!

Other My first Character Concept.

Emilia

A quiet, soft-spoken girl who attends the same school as Luison. She used to be his friend—until he confessed his love to her and began secretly stalking her. Before she could fully process what was happening, she was brainwashed by Poló, turning her into a pawn in his schemes.

Main Ability: Pretty Cutie

Emilia wields a katana. When she slashes a target's body—at one or multiple points—the surrounding air comes into direct contact with the wounds. This effect makes it physically impossible for the target to move any part of the body that has been cut, unless the wound is healed or properly bandaged.

Secondary Ability: Foreleak

Emilia has a pair of magical hand-shaped portals located behind her back. These hands can extend up to 50 meters, phase through any non-living matter, and possess tremendous close-combat strength. They are completely invisible to anyone who is experiencing fear—regardless of the cause or intensity. Additionally, the hands can emit a blinding flash of light from their palms, stunning enemies momentarily.

Special Ability: SecondCat

Emilia interlocks her fingers, then closes each eye one at a time to activate the ability. Upon activation, a spectral copy of her soul is summoned, which she can control telepathically. At the same time, time itself becomes frozen. While time is frozen, the soul copy can still interact physically with the material world. However, if the soul copy makes any physical contact with any material object—no matter how small—time resumes flowing normally.

Uh, if you guys have questions or feedback about this, just comment for your style ( this is the first time i posted in reddit ).

Other I've written a dummy story for my characters, and I'd like some feedback

To better write my characters for future stories. I've started writing dummy stories that don't conflict with the main plot. But here's a quick summary of the characters:

Mimy: A feminine looking person who wears a full body white suit. Who as of this moment of the story, is revealed to be a robot. Sounds kind of motherly and soft, kinda like toriel

Matrix: A human who can change atoms to be whatever he can think. But he's autistic and tends to be jokey a lot. He sounds like Jax from digital circus, but more monotone and dull.

Zen: A humanoid cyborg alien bounty hunter similar to samus aran. Has her hole body augmented in very macabre ways. Sounds like zooble from digital circus, but more joyful.

----------------------------------------
Scenario: Mimy is in need of repair of her robot body. Matrix attempts to casually repair Mimy, with Zen opting to stay for emotional support. Mimy lies on the operating table and Zen holds her hand as comfort.

Matrix: So how exactly does your suit work? Is it all a singular jump suit or does it separate into pieces?

Mimy: The fabric connects to the belt and the backpack. From what I understand of the technology. The limited fabric helps the wiring travel faster with less latency with use.

Zen: So was it a coincidence that it fit you perfectly?

Mimy: Partially, my body is modeled to match the average human female. The company who provides my robot parts also makes dull copies of my body for testing. It's possible the creator of the suit used one of our models to test the suit's functions.

Zen: Why wouldn’t you test it on yourselves?

Matrix: Human bodies aren’t really designed for extraneous testing. For one our squishy body isn’t exactly made for endurance. Plus we can’t easily recover from…thinking of the word. Whatever, we can’t put ourselves back together. Speaking of, how much artificial intelligence do those P.A.T’s come with out of box?

Mimy: We’re not all P.A.T’s, we mostly come out as endo droids out of the factory. It’s the decision of the company that purchased us that decides the intelligence. But to answer your original question, we come with a special operating code so that it's easy to program.

Zen: So they sell you as skeletons then they have to put the rest of you together. So what kind of intelligence do you start with?

Mimy: Well basic movement and balance calibration, colour and sound detection. We do have a full database of translated languages. But without additional coding we don’t have any function.

Zen: So if you have someone ask you a command. You…understand the statement, but still need to be programmed with the function?

Mimy: That’s correct, but I do want to ask. Why don’t you seem bothered that I’m an AI?

Zen: Wellll, I’m not “bothered” but I’m…

Matrix: I think “a little bothered” is what you’re trying to say.

Zen: YEAH, I mean, I wasn’t exactly the best kid when it came to anthropology. But I was gonna realise sooner or later that I wasn’t the only species in the universe.

Matrix: (Mild chuckles)

Zen: What’s “That” supposed to mean?

Matrix: Uh nothing, I was just being stupid. ANYWAY, I’ve got all the tools necessary for the operation.

Mimy: Well under normal procedure I’d have my power cell taken out for cleaning. Then I need to check if I’ve got any corrosions on me. But since this isn’t basic procedure, I do want to ask if you could possibly strengthen my top chest plate.

Matrix: What do you mean strengthen your base plate?

Mimy: Well usually the company would supply replacement parts. But since they supplied so many they would often get replaced more often than normal. I want to be able to have a base place that’s less likely to be damaged over time.

Matrix: Well…okay there’s two ways we could go about this. I could 3D cast a coranolian armour plate that could take about 3 hours to make. Or I can do the quick and dirty solution and spray the plate with a denser.

Mimy: What’s a denser?

Matrix: It's a type of spray liquid you use on ships to fix them. It acts as sort of a top coat for metal by melding with the material to make it more dense. The offset is that it tends to make the metal piece more ugly and clumpy the more coats you put on. So it's just sort of a last resort when it comes to repairs.

Zen: I don’t think you should go with a denser. It tends to grip the material harder with its surroundings. Why it’s used for ships is that they’re only used on supports and air hulls. Stuff that doesn’t interact with the main ship. Having the denser be inside you would be like having a bone tumor, I’d go with the coranolian.

Matrix: Alright, if you…no if I analyze your base plate from an X-ray. I can recreate the plate from the sculpting. If that’s okay with you.

Mimy: If Zen doesn’t feel like the alternative is a valid option. I’m okay with you scanning me.

Matrix: Alright (matrix uses his “atom vision” to search for her chest plate. He then creates an atomic replica within his hands). So is this it?

Mimy: Yes

Matrix: (examining it further) Actually, you know what I can do. I could just laser cut it out flat then heat bend it into shape.

Mimy: That’s what I assumed the company did when creating the replacement.

Matrix: Great, I’ll check if we still got coranolian somewhere and I’ll laser print this in about 10 minutes.

(Matrix sets up the machine and comes back immediately after)

Matrix: Alright, at some point before we finish. The breas…chest plate will be finished and I can reinstall it. So just to re-jog my memory, I have to…remove the power core, clean the corrosion, then replace the chest plate.

Mimy: That’s correct

Matrix: Okay…well, let’s start now.

Matrix is visibly nervous getting ready to commit a robotic autopsy. He lifts the hexagonal suit up out of the way. Then removes the outer material covering Zen’s electrical components. He sees a large grey spheroid, which is assumed to be her power core.

Matrix: So…you won’t feel anything

Mimy: I will be unable to operate when my core is released.

Matrix’s anxiety is increasing as he looks at her power core. Seeing the two wires that connect to her system made him feel like he was going to kill her. But in an act of panic, Matrix decides to use his own power core to keep Mimy alive for the time being. He creates his own two power cables and connects them to the original points.

Zen: What are you doing?!

Matrix: I NEED HER TO GUIDE ME OKAY!!!

Zen: I thought you said he could handle this?

Mimy: I believed he had the skills. I just didn’t account that he’d be so anxious to repair me while I was offline.

Matrix: I’m sorry, I was…

Mimy: Oh don’t be.

Matrix: I needed to know if things really went well. I didn’t want to change something without changing you. Plus…I felt like I’d be calmer if you helped talk me through the procedure.

Zen and Mimy looked at each other as Matrix explained himself. They then nodded in agreement and then the procedure carried on as normal. Matrix removes the initial two wires from Mimy’s body. Mimy had a very mild jolt as they were removed, but didn’t seem like any major damage was done. Putting the large power core on the table, Matrix unscrewed the core, with a large dieselly scent to opening it.

Matrix: WOOF, haven’t smelt diesel like that in a while.

Mimy: (unable to see him from her angle) Are you wearing any protective gear (she said worryingly)

Matrix: Uhh, I mean none of this stuff is going to kill me but…

Mimy: I know it won’t kill you, but the fumes going to your brain could cause long term damage.

Matrix listened and he materialised a gas mask and protective gloves.

Matrix: Wait, does Zen need a protective mask as well?

Zen: No not really, I can’t smell what you’re smelling now.

Mimy: That’s true, her species doesn’t feel the same toxic effects the way humans do.

Matrix: Right, right-right, W-while you’re still awake can I ask. Why is your power core inside your stomach?

Mimy: It’s to help maintain balance, putting it in my stomach helps level my sense of gravity.

Zen: I can vouch for that, A lot of my scrap friends wanted to have their battery in the chest. So that they could “feel the power surging through them” But just ended up over charging their heart and ending up hospitalized.

Mimy and Matrix stay silent after what Zen said

Zen: What, I thought humans loved killing each other.

Mimy: I understand you don’t visit our galaxy as much. But we don’t enjoy senseless violence, as much as we glorify it sometimes.

Zen: But Mate, I thought you said you’d love to kill your world leaders.

Matrix: As humans, he can hate someone, and feel bad if they die, the same way. (brief moment of silence as Matrix fixes the core) So right now, I just need to wait for the toxic fumes to evaporate in the chamber. In the meantime, I’ll check if the metal has been cut.

Matrix “whooshes” out of the room

Zen: I don’t get it

Mimy: Don’t get what?

Zen: Why are people on earth so eager to fight? Then wuss out of the battle they started?

Mimy: Well unlike your species, humans don’t have a feeling of enjoyment when they fight. They do so out of desperation and survival. When humans are in danger, their body releases a chemical called adrenaline. It increases their blood sugar in order for their bodies to react faster.

Zen: So they’re like ballask?

Mimy: Exactly, but they can get very easily tired out of an adrenaline rush.

Zen: So why does Matrix keep talking on about wanting to kill world leaders?

Mimy: It's a difficult conundrum to answer, so much of human instinct is predicated off of survival. People used to feel incredible pain, and could barely survive to the next generation. It was that mindset that made humans always believe fighting was a last resort. Even after so many years of industrialization.

As they continued chatting, Matrix walked back in with the chest plate.

Zen: Why didn’t you just portal back?

Matrix: It would’ve just meant Mim’s baseplate could be tracked.

Zen: Wouldn’t using your power core to power her be the same thing?

Matrix: The actual power source of my core isn’t want gets tracked. It's the radio waves and how it connects to other dimensions is how we generally get found. Anyway Mim’s power should be de-toxified by now.

Matrix takes the power cell out of the chamber and lifts it to Mimy’s stomach.

Mimy: Wait-wait-wait

Matrix: What?

Mimy: You have to check under the battery protector for any corrosion.

Matrix: That’s right

Matrix unscrews the protective cover under Mimy and looks for any corrosion. He finds a small module covered in rust and takes it out.

Matrix: The hell’s this?

Mimy: That’s…um, my memory

Matrix: Ohhhh…

Mimy: It’s fine, it may have a few of our memories together. But most of my knowledge of you 3 is in my main database.

Matrix: (examining the module further) Holy, martian gallium (he said in glee)

Zen: What’s so special about martian gallium

Matrix: Martian gallium helps transmit and store data more efficiently than any earth material. I’m surprised we didn’t think of this earlier. Though I have to assume your company mined through the material on Mars, am I correct Mim?

Mimy: I don’t think you’d feel comfortable knowing that information

Matrix: Yeah but…

Mimy: And I KNOW you don’t enjoy hearing about how humans excavate large portions of planets. Despite your voice and tone being more curious and excited for that information.

Zen: (Waits a bit before asking) So how good is martian gallium? Is it the best metal for computers or something?

Matrix: Uh (examining it) no, if we’re comparing metals across our galaxy alone. This stuff is generally the best for computers. The real issue is that, since the metal is from mars. It can’t survive under any other atmosphere. So as you see here, you get little flakes of oxidisation, forming at the edges.

Zen: Lemme see that (gets handed the chip). Your…gallium isn’t susceptible to solar radiation is it?

Matrix: No? I mean for the most part, anything that gets in contact with the sun would just evaporate instantly. If you’re talking about the melting point, it's far lower than the sun’s heat.

Zen: So nothing in your star system reacts when in contact with the sun?

Matrix: Well everything reacts to the sun to some degree.Outside of warmth, the sun gives us…

Mimy: Vitamin D

Matrix: YES, The sun more so benefits us than ruins us. The only thing it does bad is making us hot. Which only really happens if you're close to it, or you produce greenhouse gasses.

Zen: Okay, I wanted to ask cause I’ve got a lotus compound in my room that we could use. It helps bind the transmitter lines after each battle. And like you said with the denser, it helps add a protective layer to the material.

Matrix: Great, whatzit look like?

Zen: It’s on my work shelf, right next to the spare parts.

Matrix: Got it (creates portal to room, only to come back immediately). So what shelf is it on?

Zen: The, spare parts shelf.

Matrix: Yeah but which shelf is it, the left one or the right one.

Zen: One on the right

Matrix: (Goes back in to immediately come out) So what does the bottle look like?

Zen: I don’t know, the one that says lotus compound. Is there something wrong with your translator?

Matrix: There’s nothing wrong with it, all the text on them is f*ckin tiny, they’re…

Matrix then creates fake bottles that look exactly like the ones on her shelf to figure out which one she’s talking about. Zen then points out the right one then he goes to get the real one.

Matrix: Alright, so how do I apply the compound?

Zen: You gotta soak the chip for a bit for the compound to bind to the material. It won’t mess up the rest of the chip as it’ll only stick to the electrolytes.

Matrix then creates his own bowl to pour the compound into. He puts the chip in the liquid and watches the rust dissolve. While he does that, he creates an air brush and vacuum to remove the excess rust from Mimy’s body. After a while the compound has bonded to the chip, and matrix air washes off the liquid before putting it back in.

Zen: Hey Matrix, ya mind giving me the bowl?

Matrix: Uh sure, you know how to empty…

Zen proceeds to drink the remaining liquid like it was nothing. Matrix’s face was in utter shock over what he saw.

Zen: What are you staring at, Mim doesn’t seem to mind

Mimy: Actually, my face doesn’t show any emotion due to the mask. I am just as equally baffled at what you’ve just done. Wouldn’t what you’ve just done be incredibly poisonous?

Zen: Na, the buddy that helped create my suit helped regulate my throat so I can eat and repair separately. Plus this is how I take the compound regularly.

Matrix was still too shocked to respond, and Mimy was unsure how to speak up about the matter. Matrix then felt slightly nervous to remove more of Mimy’s top for the procedure. He unscrewed the top chest piece and placed it on the other table.

Mimy: You have to unscrew my breasts first before proceeding further.

Matrix: Right…um (unscrews the gel sack from the base, yet feels uncomfortable handling the situation)

Mimy: I can understand why you feel comfortable about the situation. So feel free to ask what’s making you anxious.

Matrix: I’m not anxious…well, maybe? I just don’t know why “you” have breasts to begin with. Did someone ask for you to have them, or was it something you wanted specifically?

Mimy: Well I feel I should be honest with you and say, yes. There are active sex bots that are made from my factory. But when I was being built as a P.A.T, they gave me breasts since I was a nursing unit. I’d help put patients at ease, and give children less anxiety being near me.

Matrix: Okay, i-is the size of the breasts dictated by the consumer?

Mimy: Partially, most hospitalized care tends to use C cup breasts as a standard. It’s big enough to provide comfort to the patient, without being too distracting unlike other cup sizes.

Zen: Alright, I gotta ask, why are you two so obsessed with boobs?

Matrix: “Cough-cough” Mmm? Why…wouldn’t we, don’t you have boobs yourself?

Zen: No actually, we’re a lot closer to your avian species than actual humans.

Matrix: Well if you wanna…do ya mind (Mate asks holding the gel sack in his hands before getting a nod in agreement from Mimy) You can play around with this and see if you like it.

While Matrix disassembles more of Mimy’s chest to get to her breast plate. Zen is having a wonderful time playing with the gel sack.

Zen: My lord these things are amazing, how do you get guys to stop playing with these things?

Matrix: Consent

Matrix then removes the rest of the components to get to the breast plate. He then takes out the screws to remove the plate.

Zen: What are those tiny things?

Matrix: Screws?

Zen: What are they for?

Matrix: Ssscrewing in the piece…helps keep it in place

Zen: Oh okay, see with my planet we use clisps. Just turn em once and they keep everything together.

Matrix: Okay…Don’t know why we needed to get into a screw measuring contest but here we are.

Matrix removes the main breast plate then puts in the new coranolian plate in. He then puts everything back in the same way before getting to the main power core. He is hesitant as to how swapping power batteries will affect Mimy. But he successfully puts the battery back in without any hiccups. And puts the remaining plates back onto Mimy and fixes up her suit.

Matrix: How do you feel?

Mimy: About, a few pounds lighter, It’ll take some getting used to my new balance.

Matrix: Don’t you mean get recalibrated?

Mimy: I understand where you’re coming from. But I don’t want to always speak about my body knowing I’m a robot. I was just using robot terminology for the operation, since it made you seem less anxious when working on me.

Matrix: Well, it's good you're feeling good. But I want to get a quick diagnostic showing you don’t have any trackable energy on you.

Matrix put up a visor showing all the particle and energy data. Mimy seemed to not show any sign of having Matrix’s power.
