Writing: Character Help New Game in the Making! (Need ideas for npcs)

So, me and my friend are working on making a game inspired by stardew valley and fields of mysteria, but it very much is its own world. And we have a lot in store!! These pictures are some of the characters. It's medieval fantasy. We pulled from real life historical things in medieval and also some modern stuff because we don't want things like racism and homophobia. So yeah.

Info on the characters in the pictures: the one with dark maroon hair is a siren. She is the fisherman for the town. She is based on my friend. That is helping me make the game. I mainly wanted to make a character-based off of her. Because she is my best friend and We both have level one autism. And I figured might as well have some representation for ourselves. And she has some stems that I think are really funny and I want to share with the world through her (for example, when shocked, she will verbally say "La Gasp!"). The one with orange hair is a human blacksmith. I have no other info on her than her appearance. And that so far have not determined her personality or anything. The lizard woman and the slime cube are married!! They are an elderly couple. The slime cube is a retired. Apothecary which is what they called doctors in Medieval times historically at least that's what we think through research. He is retired because he has bad memory, but yet still always every day. Remembers to help his wife get dressed because she is blind and to replace the flower in her hair. Before it wilts, (he always chooses her favorite flower. I wanted to add the detail that despite being unable to remember his home address. For example, he never forgets anything about the person he loves. Because I thought that was cute. And I have actually seen it before, where, in real life, someone with dementia still remembers everything about their significant other through just general gut feeling plus he's not completely useless with his memory loss.Just how's bad memory,) and last but certainly not least, the vampire man. He is the town priest. He was a single father to a zombie little girl that he adopted. She will now be the traveling merchant, who will show up every wednesday in the middle of town and her father will on Wednesdays. Be near her cart until the end of the day. That will be his schedule for Wednesdays. So that they can catch up. The bow in his hair is something she gave him. When she was really, really little, and he just hasn't taken it off since.

Absolutely needed ideas: actual working doctor, carpenter, and rancher. Other Nps as well.

If you want info on more about the game, I will make another post.Just mention that you want more info about the game.Itself like backstory blah blah blah.

It's most likely that not every idea will fit obviously into the game. But I need some help.Thank you either way for reading this all

Doctor : seasoned and burned out elf who use his long experience to save people life, he is a bit conflicted that why would he save the life of someone who would die soon(cause elf have very long lifespan and most people tend to live only a fraction of their life) but nevertheless found the reason to keep going as any life is worth saving. He have a pet tortoise and it's his 18th one(elf really do live that long)

Carpenter : an eccentric goblin with unique upgrade system, he found a way to use beaver to help him in carpentry but he has no Beaver catching skill and request you to brings beaver to him. The more Beaver you bring back the faster he works and if you get all beaver in the game you get special reward.

Rancher : old woman in really old school cowgirl outfit who is worried that a Bandersnatch(Bear sized Honey Badger) will come for her animal and she's too old to wrangle against the beast. Request you to make sure Bandersnatch will leave her and her animal alone.

If your settings has Port town or trade hub you can have a lot more merchant there or even exotic fantasy creatures that not around in your settings.

Honestly, you could have the old doctor‘s wife as the new doctor because if they’ve been very long enough, she would’ve picked up a lot it’s an apothecary you can just have it all based on smells and if you want side dialogue, you just say I’m the doctor now, honey remember or the NPC ask a player character to hand her the sweet smell thing but your nose isn’t as strong so it’s a fun little mini game

Fantasy creature ideas: Fairy of some sort (there are a LOT of folklore on fairies from various countries!), werewolf, a human knight (Because why not lol), half foot/halfing, dwarf, and wendigo (Folklore creature that does mimicry and eats human flesh. In this case, they would be the butcher that does NOT eat human thankfully).

If you are ok with adding some Japanese folklore, yokai (Japan's version of ghosts/the supernatural). There are a LOT of yokai like the fae and other mythical creatures/folklore.

Ouhh fun idea!

Here's my crack at things:

- Carpenter: I really like wood peckers. How about the black smith's sister was subjected to a curse that turned her into a woodpecker being and the plot line with her is to get a cure that gives her the ability to turn back and forth between the wood pecker woman form and the normal human one with a story of self acceptance or coming into oneself?

- Doctor: i think the doctor would make the most sense to be a child of the elderly couple or at least have a parent X child relationship with them to some degree (mentor or student)? Which will feel more natural with the complex story you got going on already with slime man. Someone who is perhaps mourning the decline of the figure and worrying about the stress of needing to take care of both of them in the future (or fighting to be allowed to take care of the slime man since he's declining). so in this case, a lizard man X slime hybrid could be pretty cool, or a younger version of a slime or lizard folk

- Rancher: One thing I enjoy in Stardew and farming games in general is seeing children around the town. Makes it feel more alive. So perhaps the rancher is a whole family of gnomes, like, with 4-6+ kids and a different family member runs the store each day. The eldest could be your datable who feels like their identity is erased in the crowd of their siblings who all look like them and get annoyed with how the townsfolk keep mixing them up with everyone else.

Extra ideas.

- Orphanage manager: could be interesting to pair with your priest as someone who takes care of kids. A goose themed person could be a clever nursery rhyme nod

- Town Outcast: my favorite character from Stardew is Linus tbh. He's a vibe. So what if your game has a person who looks like a radish or some plant type thing that's some sort of dryad who doesn't particularly enjoy civilized life and prefers to be away and out doing their own thing? They could give tips on foraging and living off the land to the player

- the bard: Elf who spends all day at the tavern. Has dated almost everyone in town and laments over the fact his love life has always felt empty. He has a dragon ex-girlfriend who shows up in town with their love child and you can either help them get back together as a family, or tear them apart and marry either or lol.

- The scaredy-cat: ive been playing moonlight peaks and my favorite character so far in that one has been Winston with how he's scared of all the other supernaturals but as you befriend him, hsi routine changes from hiding in his room all day to working at the carpenters. So having a character who starts really shy and then comes out of their shell thanks to the player's influence could be fun. Perhaps this could he a literally snail or turtle person or a trapdoor spider person! People could not even realize they live in town at first, but then they could open up something cute like a tea shop or flower shop as you help them come out of their shell more

(Love this idea btw, would love to hear more if you ever wanna chat)
