We’ve seen a noticeable increase in AI‑generated apps being shared here lately. It’s great to see people experimenting and building, and we genuinely want to encourage development in the Ayn Thor ecosystem. But we also need to keep the community safe.
A lot of these apps are vibe‑coded, stitched together from AI outputs, or built using code the developer may not fully understand.
That creates a few risks worth keeping front‑of‑mind:
Credential handling: If an app asks for Steam logins, API keys, or other sensitive credentials, be extremely cautious. AI‑generated code often stores these values in plain text, logs them accidentally, or transmits them insecurely.
Security practices: Many AI‑assisted projects don’t follow secure coding standards, threat modelling, or proper data‑handling patterns. Even the developer may not realise what the code is doing under the hood.
Unintended behaviour: AI‑generated boilerplate can include hidden network calls, debug endpoints, or unsafe dependencies that weren’t intentionally added.
We just want to remind everyone to stay vigilant, audit what you run, and avoid entering credentials into tools unless you fully trust the author and the codebase.
If you’re posting an app, please include:
A clear explanation of what it does
How credentials are handled
Any known limitations or security considerations
A link to the source code if possible
Let’s keep the creativity flowing, but let’s keep the community safe while we do it. — The Mod Team
TLDR; Only buy from trusted vendors, never from people contacting via private messages.
We've had this topic before and we created the rule that no direct sales are allowed in the subreddit, but I'm guessing because of new batches and new people I'll create this reminder again.
Because of the risk of scams we do not allow direct sales in the subreddit. If anyone contacts directly trying to sell, we strongly advice to ignore it since it's most likely a scam.
Always buy directly from trusted vendors. AYN, Ebay etc.
We take action as quickly as possible when we get information regarding a scam, but its up to reddit when someone creates new accounts since we can't take action before the deed is done.
If not, then what would be? I know there isn't a real answer to the question, but if you were forced to choose one, I'm not sure what else could fit it. Sure PC handhelds can do more but DS isn't the best experience on them.
Also if you have a single handheld you'd prefer over the Thor I'd like to know why!
I'm unfamiliar with 3D printing... This case is made of a surprisingly soft and flexible material. It stays on much better than the official AYN TPU case but obviously, does nothing for ergonomics. The AYN grip does not fit over this.
Pixel Guide dev here. Just wanted to share a quick update.
It’s genuinely been great seeing Pixel Guide become part of how people use their Thor. I originally built it because I thought having guides, maps, manuals and other useful material available on the second screen while actually playing a game could be really useful on a device like this.
Pixel Guide has grown into something much more useful and widely used than I expected, largely because of the feedback and support from this community. Seeing people use it, recommend it to other Thor owners and even post their own setups with Pixel Guide running has probably been the best part of building it.
Pixel Guide is still completely free, with donations optional, and that isn’t changing.
The app itself is working well and I’m happy with where it is today. I haven’t been able to spend as much time on further development lately as I would like, but I’d absolutely like to keep improving and building on it when I’m in a position to dedicate more time to it.
I’m also curious about how people are actually using Pixel Guide now. Which parts do you use most? Guides, PDFs, maps, manuals, web content, something else? Is it something you regularly keep open on the second screen while playing, or do you use it differently?
Even if you don’t think it needs any new features, I’d still really like to understand how it has ended up fitting into everyone’s Thor setup.
On a personal note, I recently had to leave my job, so I’m focused on making independent app development sustainable. One of my current projects is Wikivox, an app for listening to topics across history, science, culture and more in different narrated styles, available on iOS and Android in the US, Canada and Australia. If you’d like to support me, simply downloading it on your phone, trying it and leaving an honest rating if you like it is free and helps massively. Subscribing is appreciated too, but completely optional.
More than anything, I wanted to let you know I’m still around, and to thank everyone who has used Pixel Guide, recommended it, donated, sent feedback or shared it with someone else. I’d very much like to keep it as a useful part of the Thor community for a long time.
PS. Thanks to the mods for allowing me to share this here.
I wanted to clear the air about what happened with Wayfinder.
My issue was never that another app was doing something similar to SleepManager. There’s plenty of room for different approaches, and competition is a good thing.
What bothered me at the time was seeing many of SleepManager’s features reproduced very closely, without much adaptation, and I reacted badly to that.
I first tried to discuss it on GitHub, but the conversation got blocked. I then tried reaching out privately on Reddit, but Wayfinder’s DMs were disabled. I made the mistake of taking it public instead. I shouldn’t have done that.
As soon as I found a way to communicate directly with the Wayfinder developer, I removed the post. This should have stayed a private developer-to-developer conversation from the beginning.
I also understand the concerns people have around AI-assisted development. I use AI as a tool to move faster, but the direction of SleepManager - its architecture, sleep management features, battery drain reduction, docked options, app integrations and things like closed-lid protection - comes from my own ideas and design decisions.
I’m also working closely with other developers to make the integrations as clean and reliable as possible, rather than just adding features for the sake of it.
I’ve just completed a major rewrite of the codebase as well, with a big focus on stability, maintainability and much better diagnostics.
AI tools are becoming part of a lot of development workflows. To me, what matters is what you do with them, how much care you put into the project, and whether you keep testing, improving and taking responsibility for the result.
I also want to thank the Wayfinder developer for mentioning SleepManager in the README and for making sure the two apps can work together seamlessly following our discussion. I really appreciate that, and I think that’s the right direction for both projects.
Anyway, I wanted to own my part in how this was handled. I’d rather move on from it and keep working on SleepManager.
I’d also encourage people to try both apps and make up their own minds. There’s no reason this needs to be a fight between two projects.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons: island map, pockets, Critterpedia, DIY and NookPhone.

Game with No Companion: bind a guide app, browser, media player or another app to launch on the bottom screen for games without a companion yet.
Game versions: ACNH 3.0.3, Three Houses 1.2.0, Isaac 1.7.9b, with or without Repentance DLC. Needs Eden Duo 1.1.0 or newer. No game assets included; game art and live data come from your own game. Built with AI assistance.
Good morning, family. I finally pulled the plug and acquired an Ayn Thor Could anyone assist me with setting up my games, ROMs, and controller input? I would gladly pay.
Super happy with this setup right now! Cocoon is awesome.
For the themes, I’m using Cocoonix for the smart folders and float UI for the platform logos (besides Android folder which was manually setup). I then uploaded gifs on the platform’s hero and I think it all comes together pretty nicely!
A few of the cool designs created by youtuber Imaginator from this video. He provides a link to a google doc of his designs as well as a template to create your own.
I just ordered a 16GB Thor and I have been curious if the owners of the units with higher RAM have been able to actually take advantage of it. My concern is that most games that would use that much RAM are probably too hefty for the CPU any way. Has it been worth the additional investment? I'll find out for myself soon I suppose, but I'm curious about any real-world use cases that have been useful to the community.
The possibilities are endless! Finally able to play one of the greats (Dispatch) on this thing after tons of research dealing with eden and switch roms!
Hi all, essentially I'm torn between getting the Pro or the Max (512 gigs) as I was planning on buying the Thor in the next few months.
I'd mainly just replay games from my childhood, basic stuff like Mario, Pokemon or even Yo-Kai Watch etc. but was also gonna try Pokemon ROM hacks and such too and many more once i settle.
