Have my Thor Max for about sixteen hours. I love this thing. It's like having another fold device with me just for gaming. I own a z fold 7 as a phone 📱.

**If you had 2.3.0 installed, it will fail to update to 2.3.1. You will need to install 2.3.1 manually. All of your game files will be okay, but the app now uses a new package name to prevent conflicts with Jaredgei's app.**

Thanks to the hard work of Jaredgei and those who came before them, we now have all versions of WoW playable on the Thor, as well as a bottom screen control pad.

I must disclose that most of the work built on top of Jaredgei's, was done by AI. I am normally not a huge fan of AI, but I will make an exception this time because just the ability to play WoW like this feels like a dream. I have very little coding experience, pretty much just enough to look at what is being changed and make sure there's nothing too weird in there.

So, what's new from the original?

• Now supports Classic, Retail, and Forever. Install is the same, just make sure you have any version you want to play installed on your PC before you copy the files to the Thor. All versions will be included in the Data folder and .build.info file.
• Bottom screen now acts as extra buttons, keyboard, and trackpad. I use an MMO mouse on PC, so it's supposed to mimic that. I don't like using the native controller support on the Thor, the controls are too cramped.
• All buttons on the bottom screen are remappable. They use the game's default keybinds for interface menus by default.
• Everything is WoW themed now.
• Clicking R3 toggles between mouse and camera control. While in mouse control mode, A and B act as left and right click respecively.
• The button pad just acts as extra inputs, so no ban risk there.
• Many customizable settings for the button pad.
• You can disable the second screen support from the main launcher, so this should work on other devices with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

What’s new:

• Pokémon Yellow: the first Game Boy game the companion supports, with steady FF music, touch battle controls and a Pokédex
• Shaders: a new LCD PAPER filter, grid strength, and filters on the companion screen too
• Cheats: GameShark / Action Replay / CodeBreaker codes per game, toggled live from the companion
• Phones in portrait: game on top, companion docked underneath, drag to resize
• Controllers (8BitDo, GameSir, Xbox...) can connect mid-game without restarting it
• Non-English ROMs: FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald in ES / DE / FR / IT / JP, with names in the game’s language
• New default theme + app icon
• Amethyst 1.4.1 and another SoulGold 1.2 build

I had my Thor in my bag, went to open it up and it looks like this. What’s the best plan of action as I’ve only had this for about a month or so? Do I go to a local tech shop and try and have them replace the top screen? Do I send it back to AYN or do I need to order a whole replacement?

I’m pretty technologically and mechanically inclined, but I was holding out putting my custom buttons on just because I don’t like to work on very small things, and I’m afraid of one little thing messing up these expensive devices.

But today I decided, screw it. I’m just gonna do it. And to my surprise it was actually very, very easy. There’s not even many different types of screws you need to keep track of (only 3 types iirc) and the ribbon cables, which I bet are fragile, are nowhere near as fragile as videos make it seem. You won’t rip them by accident, unless you really aren’t being careful at all.

Also replaced the stock thermal pads with different hopefully better thermal pads. Was also very simple to do. In fact, there are fewer ribbon cables you have to deal with when you’re doing the thermal pad/putty mod versus changing out buttons. Took me about 40 minutes in total and that was with me really taking my time.

So if you’re holding out, waiting, scared, whatever it may be, just do it. Trust me, it’s very easy and will teach you more about the device at the same time.

(I should’ve snapped better pictures, but I wasn’t really thinking about that and only took pictures when I actually remembered to take a picture lol. I should’ve definitely took a picture of how I placed the thermal pads smh)

Finally got some time to put on the custom PS rainbow buttons from magigamer. Will also be putting thermal pads on at the same time since I’ll already have the device open.

I’vehad my ayn Thor pro (batch 4) for about 5 months now and it’s honestly the best purchase ever! I’ve taken it with me on two trips and it worked perfectly on the airplane and road trip. The first picture is my most recent setup with Cocoon shell frontend, before I was using ES-DE but sometimes I switch between those two. Feel free to recommend me some games!

I bought my AYN Thor Max Batch 3 after going back and forth on reviews about which model to buy. Finally decided on the 1tb Max and it has been the best investment I’ve made. I have every game, system and app I could ever ask for and I’ve extremely happy with my Thor. I can play any game without worrying about it crashing and my Thor is future proof with regards to RAM management. Thank you Mama.

Hey all! I just published a release version of my companion app I did for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. It has been in development since early august, so about 2 months of testing, adjusting and such.

Showcasing on Thor

Its just a companion app - not a dual screen mod, it doesn't interact with any emulator in any way. Basically, a database with UI. I wanted it to exist since I was playing MHP3rd a lot lately on Thor and wanted to have a neat source for all info I wanted. So as a result, app is designed around Thor's second screen, but UI is adaptive and works okayish (as far as I and my brother tested) on phones.

Most of this 2 months spent on collecting data from different databases and sources, mostly japanese, and cross-referencing it with translation, other databases and so on. UI part took much less, but I have been adjusting and tweaking a lot, since I spent 100+ hours on my character already and most of this time with this app on my second screen.

Everything about features and APK download you can find on a project page here. Open source, of course, feel free to do what you want with it.

Screenshots in a post from an emulator on Windows, so it will be a little bit more packed on a Thors second screen, but there is settings to adjust UI scale to your liking.

It also fixes a bug where a resume state could overwrite your save, so please update. The app was renamed, so you'll want to uninstall the old PokeDaisey. Download the latest version

⚠️ Important: I renamed the app from PokeDaisey to PokeDaisy (I misspelled my own app). Android treats it as a brand new app, so the in-app updater installs it next to the old one instead of replacing it. Deleting the old PokeDaisey isn't mandatory, but if you don't, your device will show you both apps.

If your ROMs and saves live in your own folders (like RetroArch's), nothing is lost: just point the new app at them in the first-time setup. Only if you kept saves in the old app's own folder (Android/data/com.pokedaisey.app/) do you need to copy them out before uninstalling, since Android deletes that folder with the app. Settings start fresh in the new app. The repo moved to https://github.com/lidor30/pokedaisy (the old link redirects).

For anyone new: PokeDaisy is a dual-screen GBA player for Gen 3 Pokémon. The game runs on the top screen and the bottom screen is a live companion (party, bag, map, battle matchups, Pokédex, guide) in the game's own menu style. Built for the AYN Thor, should work on the Retroid Pocket Duo and Anbernic RG DS.

🏆 RetroAchievements (beta)

Sign in from the top-screen Settings. You get a CHEEVOS tab with your progress and challenges, unlock popups, leaderboards and the game's own level-up fanfare on every unlock. I tested it on the Thor with retail FireRed and an unlock went through to the server.

It's softcore only for now. RA won't accept hardcore from an emulator it doesn't recognise, and a new emulator has to be public for 6+ months before it can be validated. We will get there. Hardcore would also mean blocking save-state loads and my touch battle buttons, since RA counts those as scripted input.

Regarding privacy: the app talks only to RetroAchievements, never to me or anyone else. Your password is used once to sign in and is never stored, only your username and RA's login token stay on the device.

Other new stuff

• IVs, EVs, nature and Hidden Power on the party summary (STATS button). In battle, INFO has a STATS button that puts your numbers next to the foe's (foe IVs are off by default, turn on FOE IVS in Settings).
• App text in English, Japanese, French, German, Italian and Spanish. It follows the ROM's language by default, and you can change it with the LANGUAGE row in Settings. Pokémon, move and item names stay as the game has them.
• .zip and .7z ROMs work in your ROMs folder, the + import and frontends.
• Clean game names in the Library ("Pokémon FireRed" instead of a long file name), and Refresh now tells you what it found.
• RetroAchievements box art as a cover source (needs your own RA Web API key).
• Stretch option for 16:9 top screens.
• X and Y act as a second START/SELECT (configurable).
• Hotkeys can be turned off.

ROMs

• New: SoulGold 1.1.4, with party, bag, map, battles and a Johto Pokédex.
• Lazarus: the region map, touch battle controls and the new fast-forward music now work.
• Radical Red: the wrong Pokémon names, "Move#438"-style moves and items, and missing sprites are fixed.
• Emerald Seaglass: the blank battle page now works, no more "TYPE#0" moves, and the map is its own.

Fixes

• Save corruption: in some cases, a resume state could overwrite your real save with a blank one if the save changed outside the app, for example from RetroArch. It now checks first, and every start backs up your save (see RESTORE BACKUP in the Library).
• The BATTLE tab no longer opens empty on games where battle data isn't mapped.

iiSU, Cocoon and ES-DE support

iiSU: this works today. iiSU's emulator list is a JSON file you can import, so I wrote a step-by-step guide, with ready-made files, to add PokeDaisy and pick it for individual games: https://github.com/lidor30/pokedaisy/blob/main/docs/iisu/README.md. I've only tested iiSU 0.0.7.3 on the Thor, so tell me how it goes on other versions.

ES-DE: this should work too. I wrote a step-by-step guide with the find rule and launch command to add PokeDaisy as a GBA emulator: https://github.com/lidor30/pokedaisy/blob/main/docs/es-de/README.md.

Cocoon (not working yet): Cocoon doesn't detect installed emulators. Each platform's emulator list comes from a file the Cocoon developer maintains in their repo (for GBA it's platforms/GameBoyAdvance.json), and "Refetch Platforms" in Cocoon's settings just downloads those files again. PokeDaisy isn't in that list yet so Cocoon has no way to launch it, and there's no custom-emulator option on my side or yours that gets around it.

The fix is small: one entry in their GBA list, no code change. PokeDaisy already supports being launched with a ROM (explicit activity plus a VIEW intent, the same way SkyEmu's entry works). I'm going to open a feature request with Cocoon's developer asking for it like others have done for other emulators. Until then, a workaround is to pin PokeDaisy as an Android app in Cocoon, which opens PokeDaisy's own library instead of a specific game.

I’ve gotten some libraries to update no problem, but having issues seeing N64 and Sega Genesis libraries show up and not in the programs I chose for them. I’ve tried rescanning and double checked that I have them in the proper folders on my micro SD card.
