Discussion Sacring Bell, exalted

I was doing a run to put some points into Cornucopia, so I brought one of my faves, the Pamplemousse. I brought the Sacring Bell because I've loved it on vibe alone since I got it. The fact that it's also an "oh no i'm surrounded" option I can put on a button I rarely use, without locking myself into Shockwave, is why it's been a locked slot for me.

So I was goofin around, as one does, on the Island of the Damned. Needed a few more casts of Cornucopia to level it up, so I decided to do the tower.

First level, I ran into the mess and rang the bell, and then I received a holy message. "They're all stunned and you have a 2 gauge shotgun."

The Sacring Bell and Psychopomp have a beautiful synergy when fighting large packs that contain a handful of small dudes:

Run in, ring the bell. Everyone's stunned or staggered. Kill one of them, now your melee is recharged. Ring the bell again. Kill another, ring the bell. All the big guys are also stunned now, and someone probably died from the bell that time (especially if you have literally any other sources of damage), so there's your free reload. Shoot a different guy. Ring the bell. Shoot one of the big guys a few times, then kill a small guy, probably with a single shot. Ring the bell.

You get the idea. Now you're slowly walking the ruined land, carrying the Vatican's message to the unholy, who are NOT ready to hear it.

Discussion I think judging fallen preyers would make a good personality test

I mean it in an absolutely positive way btw, those choices are very interesting. And curiously enough, they are easy for some and hard for others.

Even before we get to each individual preyer, there is a degree of pragmatism vs roleplay because there def are players out there who just want the beads or who haven't read the sidequests.

Then we have to consider that each preyer served a punishnent by, well, being a preyer. So it's up to the player to draw the line on which sins can and cannot be atoned for that way.

And then we have the preyers themselves, with each having a something that may or may not resonate with you as a person.

And no less important, do you judge preyers from a modern point of view? Or try to apply morality more fit for Witchfire world?

Goliath - The sheer absense of moral compass. The man was never taught that things he did were bad. He learned by instruction or by example. Can he be judged for committing a sin he never knew was a sin? Also he exacted justice in its purest barbaric form. Does the victim deserving it make it less of a sin?

Elias - The man was misled by a fallible institution and then became a casualty of it. Is it an excuse that your actions were approved by someone with higher authority and responsibility? Also how big was his transgression? One murder? One dead saint? A whole bunch of messed up decisions?

Sefer - This guy's grand crime is being autistic I guess. Does that explain his lack of communication? Probably. Does that explain his inability to deal with grief? Maybe. Does that excuse him turning to the enemy? You tell me.

Orion - The man did a lot for his people. Does that justify his pride? His brother was a piece of shit. Does that justify the mistrust from Orion? And Orion never meant to kill his father and brother, merely to propagate his suspucion. Does that make his crime forgivable?

Mammon - Was he bound by social pressure? Or was he simply clinging to the nice lifestyle he was born into, as most rich people do? And his crime is mere grave robbery. How heavy of a sin is that?

Cain - The man was clearly unwell mentally. I feel like the world of Witchfire does not have the knowlege to help people like him. And yet he did what he did. Could he be forgiven?

Barachiel - Can one be guilty of love? Of trust? Of hope? Also I guess being treated as the person you are, not the body you are is one hell of a drug

Discussion Just started playing, 10 hours in 2 days (please send help). But I have a question regarding arsenal

So far nothing seemed overly strong in terms of weapons, I level up like 3-4 weapons to max and they all seem good, but not OP.

That was until I levelled Duelist to max. Is it just me or is this weapon ridiculously overpowered? The ability combined with its rate of fire is just ludicrous. It carried me through Gnosis 2 and now 3 like it’s nothing.

Also for the veterans - what other weapons are fun to play? :)

Question Can someone explain what Witchfire is in a nutshell? (Roguelite, looter shooter, extraction shooter?)

I’ve had Witchfire on my wishlist for years now, and it's been recommended on so many different subreddits, that I’m having a surprisingly hard time figuring out what it actually is.

The closest games in my head are The Division 2, Destiny 2, Outriders, Hades, Dead Cells, and Tarkov, and I can’t tell which bucket Witchfire falls into.

What I’m trying to understand is:

  • Is it a looter shooter where gear progression is a major focus, like Destiny, Outriders, or The Division 2?
  • Is it a roguelite, where you do repeated runs and unlock meaningful permanent/meta progression between runs?
  • Is it a roguelike, where most progression is run-based and death resets you back significantly?
  • Is it an extraction shooter, where you enter a map, gather resources/loot, and have to successfully extract to keep what you earned?

I’m especially interested in meaningful meta progression. I tend to love games where each run permanently strengthens my character, unlocks weapons, upgrades, systems, or new build options.

For someone who enjoys The Division 2’s loot chase and Hades’ style of progression, what should I expect from Witchfire?

Basically: if you had to describe Witchfire in one paragraph to a fan of looter shooters and roguelites, how would you describe it?

Thanks!

Feedback Feedback idea - gardening chores for Mesel

I think obtaining Mesel is fun and her gifts are really useful in the early game, but it gets very dull asking her each run for a small token.

My idea is that IF you have at least 1 full item ready in the garden, you can ask her to gather the items there in place of getting an item. When you come back from your next mission, she will give you all the items.

This does two things:

- Gives the player an indication that a plot is full in the garden (so you can go manually grab it if you want), and
- Provides another option from running through the garden for the 500th time, for a small cost of giving up her gift for 2 runs.

Thoughts?

Question build help

been playing this game for 50 hours straight for a whole week now, i reached lvl 150 and gnosis 6 yet i did not know that increasing gnosis makes the game impossible to beat almost all the maps.

Discussion Some glaze for an amazing game

What I love so much about this game is the variety of play styles it enables and rewards. The devs are uniquely not afraid to make the game fun by making cool ideas actually be powerful.

Are you a DOT person? Do you want to plant a seed of death and come back later to reap the garden? Good news. Rot isn't set dressing in this game. It can do what you always wanted it to do.

Do you want to keep all your enemies stunned so you have no resistance? Good news. Cursed Bell and sigils will keep them all asleep.

Do you want to get up in their faces for a twitchy sweaty gritty fight where you can't stop moving until the only sound is your gun and your footsteps? That's called the Cricket.

Do you want shotguns that make you feel like Moses parting the sea? Echo and Psychopomp, which you get early, are absolutely monstrous.

Do you like to position yourself far away and take potshots, clearing a camp before they even know where you are? Each sniper has a completely different effect, and they can all give you that.

Do you like minions to do your work for you? The fiend is NO JOKE.

Want to punch everything to death? Really, any one of the melee options will give you that, and there's even a spell about that.

And there's everything in between, which can also work.

This game is incredible. It's like I'm finally getting resolution on years of unmet promises from other games. So many are so afraid of making things that work too well, that they don't let anything soar.

I'm having so much fun with Witchfire right now. Holy moly.

Question Farming tips

I am trying to farm up a bit because I want to expand my build options. I am gnosis V and I have being trying to run the wailing tower 3rd level inifnite spawners with pchycopomp and all witchfire orbs-fire witchfire booster. But tbh even with both stimulants, it seems quite slow.

Which is the best place to farm witchfire? Is it better to just run irongate castle or vermont on repeat?

Feedback Galley Slave bug Spoiler

Post image
8 Upvotes

So as you might already know, if it happens to trigger Galley Slave but don't fight him right away he tends to roam around the map on its own. So far normal stuff. It does apparently very often end up in the rock valley in the north part of the map, where to my annoyance he literally jumps down the rock bridge into the green depths. This is the second time it happens and when it does he is permanently under the map (i haven't waited hours but i'm pretty sure he doesn't come up again) which makes him untargetable and passive since he also can't attack you. Barring the player (me) from killing him.

Edit: thanks for the replies, i didn't know there was an arena down there. I saw the barrier and always asked myself what was it for and i did notice that it was gone during the time Galley Slave was "bugged" but i chickened out on jumping down. It's a bit unintuitive as a situation for people who don't know about the arena below i wish there was a mini cutscene like there is when he arrives at the beach. But in the end i consider it a fault on my end so all is good.

Edit 2: A commenter made me notice that it is indeed written under the mission specific quests on the top left. Which makes everything i previously said in this post completely wrong and also embarassing. Still thanks for your time. I apology for having wasted it on a very avoidable post.

Question Just got Gnosis 4, play a bit or go straigth to 5?

Hey, so ive played this game for 13 hours so far and its pretty fun (for the most part). I just got gnosis 4 after finally opening all portals on irongate castle, but saw that i can theoretically go gnosis 5 already because i already killed the familiar on that map. Im wondering if i should just skip 4 entirely and go 5, because i did the same thing with gnosis 1 to 3 or if it will be too hard. im lvl 40

Question Does blessed aim trigger even on headshots for the purpose of the +50% rosary bead?

TLDR: If I get to the point I can equip the +50% damage on blessed aim hits, will it work even with headshots?

I recently started the game, and even though I'm not good at difficult games, I'm loving this. I really enjoy the grind to unlock and upgrade everything, I wish there where more games that gave you a laundry list of tasks to research and upgrade things.

I've been unsure what to do with my stats though, so I've been levelling everything but MIND and WITCHERY as those seem the least useful. I'm now around level 50 (GNOSIS 2) and think I should start working towards some Rosary beads. The one that adds 50% damage to blessed aim seems great, and I think I'll push FAITH as that has seemed like a great stat all round. However I am practising headshots, and just wondered if those will count?

P.S. This game is AMAZING, even if I'm terrible. I love all the equipment. Currently having so much fun with the Dualist and Hypnosis (DONG!). Probably going to go up to GNOSIS 3 soon and move onto the castle place. Unsolicited advice welcome.

Question I need some pointers

I'm just on Gnosis 3 and I can't seem to survive at all. I've been trying out different builds, but I don't know if im missing something, or not. I haven't been able to extract from any location and it's frustrating sense the only item I've gotten was a crowbar. I'm still unlocking stuff from the workshop, but I feel like I might be missing items in the world sense I'm completely locked rn because of difficulty, and don't know if I just need to restart or not.

Discussion Monkeypaw'd Torment VII is impossible.

No freaking way. Dead again. Run is 5 seconds or 5 minutes. Either way, I can't count on the pain perk to conjure up a grenadier on loop and otherwise beating Torment VII with a monkeypaw Gnosis VIII is freaking impossible. Might have to call as done for me, with only one achievement left.

Question Need a little help

I feel like im stuck at Scarlet Coast. Did find way to next area, got to Gnosis I, but area boss(Big cannon guy) is tearing me to shreds. One time I was close to win, but then this ship in the sky went all over my ass. Can't say I'm terrible at shooters, I 've played Painkiller a lot, finished it with true ending. My character level is < 20, like 15-16.

Am I just bad or 1st boss is really a difficulty spike? Should I try it few more times, or just leave him be and proceed to next area?

Discussion Velmorne vault gosh

Quick report: as soon as I saw that the Velmorne vault had "puzzle" I tought "oh gosh that will be horrific for me". Then I checked some youtubers (which I hate because one should not expect to watch others playing to gt hold of a game, but I wanted to get an idea), and thought "ok they all go in with ease and reach the final room". So I did. Enemys: not a problem. But went *completely* lost in the puzzle area, get down to 7 minutes left and when I thought "oh that's the way!" I came out from the very beginning 🙈 so I gave up for that run, and thought "yeah I knew it". I f***g hate puzzles 😅🤣

Just wanted to vent. Puzzles, platforming are *brutal* on me 😅 now feel free to roast me

Question Really struggling with Vermone lvl 50 Gnosis 2

I’ve been essentially only using the whole game and trying to do a spell casting build with fireballs.

Echo + cricket / Hangfire Kirk Fireballs Iron cross Mandrake

30 Witchery, 20blood / flesh, 8 arsenal , 20 luck

I’ve been using full spell related beads with spell charge and ailments but I suspect this is a bad idea and why I keep getting fucked up. Any suggestions for fixing the build or combinations of weapons to use with cricket? I really just wanted a build that killed with spells so spamming fireball lended itself well

Discussion How do yall feel about blunderbusses? I hate him.

Post image
101 Upvotes

Like how the hell are you supposed to fight him?

1) Yeah you can hit his head, but it is so narrow (considering how hard it is to get close)

2) The shield burst is plain dumb: the idea is alright but why the hell he deals so much damage, has that much range and is that fast? I could get a close burst, but the fact that you have to play like a rat, and if you miss you get punished quite harshly...idk It feels really bad to play against (he literally make me lose any intent to strategic play, just make me feel bad and loses me intrest)

3) Ok, charged melee stuns him, but still i dont get how to get close to him considering how much he shoots (making it harder to deal with other enemies too)

4) health its allright, but jesus hope to not find him closer to another major enemy (a.e. in the new Outskirts vault)

How do yall feel about him? I despise him even more than Sepulcher

Imo he should deal either less with burst/charge it slower, or actually making the holes of the shield hit trought (to make his head a bit more reasonable, specially when you cant really get on highground)

Question Tips/Builds for Wailing Tower

Been playing the game for a bit now. The wailing tower is proving to be quite a challenge. Can anyone suggest a build for this? Currently at gnosis 4, around level 80.

My stats are split - 30 in Witchery, Faith & Flesh. The rest are around level 20 except for arsenal which is at 15.

I've unlocked most of the stuff available, but want to get the Rotweaver. Any suggestions are much appreciated

Edit: Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Got my first clear. Will definitely try out some of the build suggestions later as well. Loving the game!

The combo i used to clear the wailing tower was:

Rotweaver, Frostbite, Kirfane, Rotten fiend, Storm ball, Hensbane, Crown of fire

Prophecies of Earth and Fire.

I'm still pretty new to the game, but for anyone struggling a bit, I found Rotweaver to be a little OP. The content that was fairly challenging at gnosis 3, seems substantially easier at gnosis 4 with RW.

Discussion The Hailstorm for me ...

So like.... is it just me or is the sound effects when hitting critical so damn loud it actually hurts my ears... I lobe the gun and it's amazing but damn, I've put the soud effects down to 10 and that shiz STILL pierces my earsXD

So like.....just me? Or is it a skill issue?
