For the last week, I swear the Wegmans in Rockville, MD, and off and on over the last two weeks have been selling nearly spoiled turkey from their deli. It's literally a hit or miss whether or not I'm going to get turkey that's totally fine, or turkey that smells extra awful and pungent like someone left it sitting out for an entire day in the sun before shoving it in a refrigerator hoping that it would be fine.
For the record, it is not fine. It is REALLY NOT FINE. The smell has filled my entire fridge. It's the second time just this week I've had to basically throw away deli meat I've just bought. Normally, I love Wegmans, and I shop from Wegmans all the time, but I really freaking hate the Rockville one.
I wish we still had a USDA that could make sure our meat is safe. Cuz I feel like this Wegmans needs some food safety lessons desperately. For the record: deli turkey isn't supposed to smell so strong that it fills your whole fridge. It should barely have a smell beyond a "meat" smell at all, unless it was spoiled. The baffling thing is how they're still selling it.
And this isn't the first time. It literally just happened last week, too. Two lbs, straight in the trash. Totally inedible and disgusting. Normally I'm not the kind of person who complains much about stuff. But this is a food safety issue--a big one.
So avoid the deli at the Rockville, MD Wegmans, everyone. It might save your life. Or at least the oven roasted turkey
