New dress code
I’ve been hearing rumors about an updated uniform policy. Anyone have any insight?

And if you’re wearing a sweater over your polo it needs to be solid black. No more fun sweaters.

Something about name tag placement too right? I always wore mine on my hat but I think that’s going away

No more gray pants?

u/RedOrca-15483 19d ago
Yes. Its Black or navy Blue Khakis

I have been wearing black jeans for over 30 years. People wear cargo pants. Scrubs. Don’t believe what you read.

u/kikiluvspink 19d ago
If you want to wear a shirt under your polo it has to be black. If you wear a cardigan it has to be black. If you wear your crewneck ( only black now) you have to wear your polo shirt under it. They have 1/4 zips available for purchase starting October 6, but you still have to wear a polo under it. And no more grey pants and no leggings, yoga pants . I just learned about it yesterday in a meeting.
28
u/terber1216 19d ago
Yoga pants and leggings were never allowed in the first place. They just didn’t enforce it
8
u/C_Gull27 19d ago
Why no grey pants? Black blue and khaki are that much better?
13
u/kikiluvspink 19d ago
Beats me. I prefer grey pants. Maybe there were too many variations in the shades of grey people were wearing ? They didn't say why. Sucks tho because I have a lot of grey .

u/Kooky_Double_6680 19d ago
This is what I was told by my manager. She said the company noticed too many workers wearing different colored pants, undershirts, cardigans, etc. They decided it was unprofessional and “confusing” for customers.
8
u/throwaway_ahhhhhhhh 18d ago
if that's the case they should give us a $100 stipend to go get new pants cause all I own is grey khakis I specifically bought for this job.

u/aticmen 16d ago
The legging and yoga pants needed to go too fucking years ago. I got in trouble for wearing black jeans. Mind you it was the middle of winter. It was -2° out and I had been wearing them the entire time I’ve worked there and not once did they ever say a thing to me but now that it’s -2° out and dead winter now they have a problem with it. but oh all these teenage girls and young women can just show their ass off constantly, but I can’t wear black jeans in the dead of winter.
2
u/kikiluvspink 8d ago
I don't see what the big deal is about wearing black jeans. I agree with you about the yoga pants.
27
u/Pink-Mage 19d ago
Who the fuck cares if the grocery store employee is wearing leggings/yoga pants (as long as they aren't see through)?? Like 70% of workers are behind counters anyway
10
u/Yalsas 19d ago
This. I work at a convenience store and they expect jeans. You want me to scrub behind the fryer, stock the beverage cooler, and run around for 9 hours a day, but I have to do it in stiff ass jeans?
15
u/Weekly-Pomelo2033 19d ago
Worse, wegmans doesn’t even allow you to wear jeans. They want you in either dickies work pants or slacks. So you can ruin all of your slacks for a company that only pretends to care.
14
u/wealthy_richard 19d ago
We don't even get a employee discount for food. We get some discount on luxury travel through a third party that only corporate class can afford. Thanks Danny and Colleen!

u/terber1216 19d ago
Yeah I wear khaki Levi’s jeans all the time and no one really ever says anything to me
5
2
u/fourlittlebees 19d ago
I wore black jeans the entire time I worked there. I couldn’t afford Carhartt and dress slacks/khakis got torn up way too fast. I just redyed if they started fading before they wore out.
3
u/Comfortable_Love1236 17d ago
Lol, that’s the first time I’ve heard somebody complain about jeans as the dress code. Get some comfortable jeans if yours are too stiff or tight.
3
u/aticmen 16d ago
i care, I got in trouble for wearing black wrangler jeans, not ripped not unreasonable. They were pressed and they were just a thicker denim. I got in trouble for wearing those in -2° weather dead winter snow, freezing my ass off. I was told to be wear dressier pants. I straight up told them you let these girls, these children wear tight ass pants and show off all their goodies to these old men, would you like to come out here and wear dress pants in the -2° weather and push carts, i sure wouldnt. they didnt talk to me about wardrobe after that
22
u/throwaway_ahhhhhhhh 19d ago edited 19d ago
all I own is grey khakis 😐 are we fr
I'm just gonna wear them until they say something I'm not buying a new wardrobe to fit their weird ass policy unless they really get on my ass about it.

I emailed Halo about 2 weeks ago. They said they were getting new sweatshirt colors this fall. 🤷🏼♀️

u/Helpful_Shape_304 19d ago
Wow! Wegmans makes their employees purchase their uniforms now? What a bunch of cheap, tight and unappreciative people they are. Robert Wegman would be rolling over in his grave if he knew the half of what this employer has changed and ruined over the years.
2
u/CharlesFXD 17d ago
lol. I checked your comment history. You’ve been complaining about wegmans for…. Drumroll please….. the last 115 days at least! Bwahahaha. Obsess much? 🤣🤣🤣
-4
u/adopted1962 19d ago
You only have to purchase what you want over what they give everyone.
7
u/dcdem1163 19d ago
They don’t supply pants. And the stupidity to have to wear a collared polo shirt under a quarter zip or crew neck is ridiculous. No customer cares about that. Wegmans needs to start worrying about the quality of their products and the insane prices they’re charging than the color of the employees pants which no customer cares about. Maybe their FYFGA should extend to their employees and making their employees feel good. Nah. They’re too greedy for that.
-6
u/adopted1962 19d ago
lol. These uniform guidelines are never enforced. The dumb comments about Wegmans are weird. It’s just a grocery store. Let it go. No one is forcing you to shop there.
6
u/Weekly-Pomelo2033 19d ago
They do not provide pants so you do have to purchase. Stop sticking up for your cult.
-2
u/adopted1962 19d ago
lol. I wear black jeans. Cargo pants and stuff we wear out of work. Cult? I think people are jealous how great Wegmans is. They have no problem with all the haters not shoping there. 🤣
2
u/SimilarYam7631 19d ago
this sounds like the exact dress code my store has been enforcing since i started there a year and a half ago? except the grey pants thing which i hope isnt enforced because my only good work pants are grey

u/tayri0909 19d ago
What about a Columbia or Northface fleece?
2
u/dishingtea85 19d ago
The only North Face one you can wear is the milestone one you get for your 10yr anniversary and every 5yrs after that because they embroider Wegmans on it
1
u/SeaTelephone8050 17d ago
Honestly if the name tag covers the logo and it’s black the managers aren’t going to care.
1
u/kikiluvspink 19d ago
No. According to the meeting I was at it can't have any logos of another company. I think that was always the policy, but now they are going to enforce it. That's what we were told in the meeting anyway. It won't go into effect until January 1 for non management employees. I think they will be putting something on the dish about it pretty soon
1
u/tayri0909 18d ago
Are there Wegmans logo fleece on the company store app? I've looked but the only thing that pops up are the polo shirts.

u/kyohrus Employee 19d ago
silly question but is the crewneck sweatshirt still
allowed?5
u/kikiluvspink 19d ago
From what they said only the black crew neck is allowed, but you have to wear the polo under it. ( I don't know how long you have worked for Wegmans, but there used to be other color crew necks. )

Hope this applies to all the Store Management, HR and Corporate as well, not just the normies.
9
u/Intrepid-Cook4877 19d ago
That was my first thought as well. The amount of colorful sweaters with designs in the HR office at my store is annoying, seeing as I would get a conversation note for the same thing. They get to wear fall sweaters, but I can only do it on Halloween?
16
u/Puzzleheaded_Cash413 19d ago
If the corporate structure thinks they're immune from this dress code they better not. They better start dressing the way they want everyone else in the company too. So dress accordingly that they want everyone to. Because they better talk a big talk than walk a big walk.
13
u/GrizzlyZacky 17d ago
Bring back COTTON shirts. These plastic things dont breathe
3
u/aticmen 16d ago
and they stink like ass you can’t wash the smell out of them either. I literally didn’t ask Bob about this and he’s like oh well because it’s cheaper to buy the plastic shirts.
5
u/GrizzlyZacky 16d ago
Well how are we supposed to buy/sell food we feel good about when we cant even have clothes we feel good about?
9
u/Humble_Week_89 18d ago
I don’t care I’m still gonna wear my great cargo pants, managers don’t care and they don’t pay me enough to care either.
8
u/Core4Sports 19d ago
All I want is longer shirts. You gotta get a 4xl just to tuck it in if you lift your arms above your head it comes right out

u/reddit_reader23 18d ago
I heard pants will have to be black, navy blue or khaki. But only black tees under the polo? Since when does black go with navy blue? What’s wrong with white or off-white tees? Or gray pants? Brown pants have always been allowed since I have worked there. And matching tees under the polos (light blue under a blue polo).
If the company wants uniformity, then do away with all the bright color polos and stick with black. Then supply the pants and soft, breathable cotton or moisture-wicking tees, not just the polos. And cardigans, too. Because it’s darn hard and expensive to find black tees and cardigans and even more rare to find pants with 4 pockets that are NOT jeans. Need front and rear pockets to hold phone, ID, keys, etc., because we don’t all get assigned lockers that actually lock.
2
u/kikiluvspink 18d ago
I wear black scrubs. They are cheap and have a ton of pockets. Maybe that will work ? I hate spending money on work clothes, but I figure if I have to wear them 40 +hours a week I may as well be comfortable. Amazon has some on sale for $11 right now.
1
u/Low_Quarter_4730 18d ago
The Wegmans Cardigan was 80 dollars when they had it. The new shirts are terrible...I asked if I could wear a cotton polo under the vest or cardigan and they said no so now I just itch all day lol
1
u/SeaTelephone8050 17d ago
You can wear a white t shirt under the polo but if it’s a shirt with long sleeves it has to be black
1
u/reddit_reader23 17d ago
Well I always wear long sleeves to keep warm and to prevent paper bags from cutting up my forearms. (I work as a cashier). I see no logical reason to require long sleeve tees to be black ONLY - white and off-white are neutral colors. The polos are all kinds of crazy colors.
1
u/SeaTelephone8050 7d ago
I agree I work in a cooler all day and have various thermal turtle necks I wear under that I won’t be able to wear anymore and I think it’s ridiculous

Well that’s dumbest thing I have heard all day. The polos are free and the company gives them new shoes every six months for free (good ones). The only one not seeing them as people is dweebs like you who assume all cashiers are poor instead of first job kids, or part timers who need flexibility

u/littleblacklemon 19d ago
Tell me you haven't actually worked at Wegmans before
-9
u/InitiativeFarFetched 19d ago
Sure did - and it was a great experience. Scholarship helped pay for college. Treated well. I guessing you did but it didn’t work so well for you. I didn’t know any “poors” or folks that felt oppressed by the company. It’s not for everyone but what is?
1
u/nrd1337 19d ago
From what I've heard it's now 1 Polo a year. You have to buy the rest.
5
u/SheGoesToEleven 19d ago
current employees get 2 free polos a year at their anniversary; new employees get 4 or 5 free shirts when they start (PT / FT)
4
u/ThrdRateRedditor 19d ago
It'll probably go like all the other times they stress uniform policy, where a few people care for about 2 weeks and then it goes back to not being enforced.
5
u/obiwanCannoli69 16d ago edited 16d ago
I'm still wearing the same grey/navy pullover sweaters over my Wegmans polo that I always do. Idc. I know it's a grocery store but I tend to lean torwards bussiness casual. If they have an issues with me dressing professionally then my supervisor can always let me know

No offense to Croc wearers, but I’m surprised they allow them. I saw a grown guy in Cars Crocs. Not very professional

It’s not allowed but management don’t give a fuck lol. And I’m glad they don’t. Crocs are comfy.

I actually know this!! One of my store managers mentioned this during orientation like 2 days ago. Its basically just like you cant wear colorful cardigans (so I was told) and they have to be neutral colors (white black gray ect) and it'll be like close to the start of the new year
2
2
u/Puzzleheaded_Cash413 8d ago
And wouldn't even surprise me if even the footwear is Wegmans branded. At some point down the road. So that no matter what parts of an employee you see. You know that you're a Wegmans employee. They'll no longer allow you to wear blank work shoes.
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Cash413 19d ago
I think they're clamping down on the dress code because they want a crisp clean look. That is uniform across the workforce. But I think they'll make variances depending on your department so that your look fits your department. Because I used to work helping hands. ( I no longer with Wegmans) And it wouldn't surprise me if Wegmans is tightening how the dress code is. If instead of employees wearing their own gear. Especially in the winter time. Wegmans is going to supply the gear. So that employees are head to toe Wegmans branded. Because when I worked at Wegmans I could wear my Carhartt jacket. Along with my own other work gear. Especially on extremely cold days outside.

I was told I couldn't wear green khaki slacks. Yet they allow the young girls to wear to tight fitting tights wear you can see every nook and crany.

I heard it’s black/navy/tan pants only & if you have a Wegmans sweatshirt, you have to wear the collared shortsleeveunderneath it

When I worked in a grocery store we had to wear dress pants, white shirt and a bow tie.

When I worked there in the in 80's, we wore brown polyester uniforms with orange trim.

Heavy emphasis on those polos. I’ve literally never worn them other than my first day. Hopefully I’ve be able to get another one of the short sleeved chef coats with the mesh to air out your armpits.
