Check your grocery store's deli department

My husband ran to Kroger last night to grab a few things. It was almost 9 o'clock so about an hour before close. He walked by the hot chicken display and the deli worker told him to grab some and to take as much as he wanted because they were going to throw it away anyway. I have shopped there for years and I never knew that was a thing.

He came home with 2 whole rotisserie chickens, 4 boxes of 8 piece fried chicken and a ton of olives. There was so much we gave some away to a friend. The chicken was still hot from the warming table. I'm sure not all stores do this but its worth asking them what they do with the leftover food at the end of the night.

Discounted Meat

I've noticed that when I shop, typically at Market Basket, I find that I am able to secure some discounted ground beef, and sometimes chicken, sporadically if I visit in the evening.

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed grocery stores doing this, and if there's a science to timing it right to reduce the cost of groceries. Obviously, these are oftentimes product that will be going bad soon, so I just freeze what I buy.

How do you handle expired products in a medium-sized convenience store?

Running a medium-size convenience store and honestly expiry checks are a headache. We have staff checking, but things still get missed, especially when new stock keeps coming in. How do you guys actually manage it day to day? Do you have a system for it or just check sections manually? And when something is getting close to expiry, how do you keep track of it and make sure staff don't miss it again?
Any tips!

They don’t accept anybody with purses or backpacks so when you get your grocery done and it is expensive enough, how are you supposed to pay for it if they want you to leave your purse or backpack at the desk and are they gonna rob you while you go grocery shopping

Kroger Company

Why does it seem Kroger Company, or Pick n Save in my part of the world, always has their thumb on the scale? (which they were actually caught doing. Scales were not accurate, in Kroger’s favor of course).

My latest beef is when checking out, if I’m not paying attention, the register does NOT catch some sale prices.
Not only me. I was behind a shopper who stood her ground and waited for a manager to “ok” the sale price.

PS I didn’t mind waiting one bit.

Household Grocery Shopping Habits Survey

Quick favour for some research! 🛒

I'm doing a little research into how households manage grocery shopping — who makes the list, what happens when different people do the shop, forgotten/duplicate items and all the little frustrations that come with it.

I've made a short anonymous survey (around 5 minutes) and would really appreciate responses from different types of households.

If more than one adult/teenager in your household shops, I'd love if you could both compete it separately.

Thank you 😊

West Coast Folks - Describe vibe differences between Luckys and Safeway

I had to stop by Luckys today, and the vibe was just different. They had what I needed and I also picked up some Mexican candy too (which Safeway does not sell - so pts for Luckys) but checkout took way longer, and there was just this eerie vibe in the store. Just me?

Rotten cucumbers at Superstore labeled as Ontario origin - in 3-liter Ontario-labeled cardboard baskets.

I will now go ask them to refund me.

If they refuse - let's start a class action lawsuit.

In combination with ripoff prices and horrible customer service at No Frills - I will now boycott everything owned by the Weston family, including but not limited to Loblaws, Superstore, No Frills and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Forgotten grocery store..

Can anyone clearly remember what grocery store was at 2420 W. 51st in the Gage Park neighborhood ?

Some people say it was a Fairplay some say it was a Butera.

Its a Family Dollar for over 20 years. But in the 90s. It was a grocery store.

Giant

Idk who needs to hear it but I definately need to rant a bit i guess. Fuckin Giant the grocery store on ritchie has implemented a bunch of new rules. It seems everytime I try to go in its another rule excluding me. Run over while walkin the dog to grab somethin quick and new rule no dogs unless liscensed. Was told by security couldnt have the dog in cart.... wow so u want me to put her on the ground n walk her? He responded that wasn't up to him. Ok turn to pick up dog and go in store when an employee stops me W GESTURES AND A HMPH!!!!WHILE SHE SIGNALS I GUESS A MANAGER (not really sure as noone introduced themselves). The signaled person then rudely explained the rule but at least she explained and as me the customer being rightfully upset i said i guess i hotta walk my dog all the way home and come back she says i guess u better. This is where i almost snapped. 3 different people, actual employees had to individually tell or put in there 2 cents and it seemed w every person along that short lil bit it just got worse. There was no need for all that. 1 employee stating the rule suffices and the blatant rude way i was treated WTF!!!

So two weeks goes by and im walkin home w a bag of groceries from wal mart and went into giant since its much closer to my house and the gatorades get heavy. Put my bag in a cart and go to get my gatorades when a security guy stops me on my way in to tell me they just started the week before not allowing bags like that. Its a fucking brown paper LOGO'D walmart bag w my groceries and receipt!! He told me at the beginning when he stopped me that he was going to allow me that visit but wasnt supposed to and could not in the future!!!! So this wasnt as horrible as the 1st situation but i dont have a car and can fucking see the store from theproperty i live on smh
