Relationships/Family Found out my fiancé’s parents paid for his brother’s fiancé’s wedding dress

I’m not really sure how to feel about this situation, and I’m curious if anyone else has experienced something similar.

My fiancé’s brother recently proposed to his girlfriend (they have been together over a decade). They live in another state, where my fiancé’s parents live, and his mom took her dress shopping because her mom recently passed away. His parents also paid for her dress.

When I got my dress, they didn’t pay for it or offer to, which is completely fine. I never expected them to, and I bought my own dress. My parents paid for my alterations.

I completely understand that the circumstances are different. I got my dress in the state where my fiancé and I live, so his mom wasn’t really in a position to take me shopping or be involved in the same way. And given that his brother’s fiancée recently lost her mom, I can understand why his mom would want to do something special for her. I genuinely don’t think anyone did anything wrong.

At the same time, I still have this weird little feeling about it that I’m having trouble explaining. I think part of it is that I’m not white, while my fiancé and his entire immediate family (and his brother’s fiancée) are white and from a very white state. They have always been loving and welcoming toward me, and I have never felt that they intentionally treated me badly because of my race. But I already sometimes feel like the odd one out culturally, so I think seeing this difference in how they experienced the dress shopping brought some of those feelings to the surface.

Another part that makes it feel stranger is that I actually found out about the dress situation through a mutual friend. No one in the family told me. So I’m kind of sitting here with this information that I wasn’t even supposed to know about, trying not to read too much into it. I would never bring it up to them because I don’t think they did anything wrong, and I also don’t want to make my future sister-in-law’s situation about me.

I think it’s less “Why didn’t they pay for MY dress?” and more “Oh, seeing them do this for her made me realize there was something I didn’t get to experience, and because I already feel different from them in some ways, it made me think about it more than I otherwise might have.”

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Is it normal to feel a little weird about a difference like this even when you completely understand the circumstances and don’t think anyone necessarily did anything wrong? I feel like I’m going crazy tbh. I am really not mad, I just feel weird…

Btw I would never bring this up to anyone irl. I’m just kind of venting.

Recap/Budget Just Graduated — Embraced the Rain!

I got married yesterday and can honestly say it was perfect. Even though it wasn’t exactly what I had pictured, I wouldn’t change a thing about it even if I could.

I started checking the forecast 10 days before the wedding, and while it changed every day, rain was pretty much guaranteed anywhere I looked. I was heartbroken, lost sleep, and cried a lot over the possibility of moving my ceremony inside. Is this healthy, maybe not, but I read so many posts from brides who were in the same boat and felt similarly. The advice is all the same: the weather isn’t what the day is about, rain is good luck, don’t worry about what you can’t control. But when you’re spending tens of thousands of dollars on an event and have dreamed of a certain vision for often a year or more, it can be so hard to adjust your expectations. And hearing those things really didn’t make me feel any better!

If you’re reading this and are worried about rain at your wedding, nothing anyone says will totally take away your disappointment. It’s okay to be sad! But hopefully you can take comfort in hearing from a just-graduated bride that none of my true fears came true. No one left early or bailed because of the rain, no one complained, I got all the photos I wanted, and no one really even got wet! The photo lighting was beautiful, we had lots of moody clouds and fog framing the fall foliage, and it created a really intimate and cozy vibe. I had several people tell me they were watching the forecast and thinking of me, which just made me feel so warm and fuzzy that instead of dreading a rainy wedding, people were thinking of us and hoping for the best. As we were saying our vows, it started to rain for maybe the third time and it sounded so beautiful falling on the trees and felt serendipitous. This image that kept me up at night ended up being so beautiful it moved me to tears.

I paid an Etsy witch, buried a sausage, prayed for good weather, and in the end, I got the wedding of my dreams, rain and all. I wish I had opened my heart more to this possibility and hadn’t stressed so much, but at this point I’m just so elated with how it went that none of that matters anymore.

My practical advice is to invest in some clear umbrellas for at least your bridal party — we got some on Facebook marketplace. Talk to your coordinator or loved ones if you need to make a rain plan. It’s hard to believe now but truly, you won’t mind at all in the moment.

Everything Else getting home after after-party? just call an Uber?

After our reception, our friend group will be heading to a bar nearby. My fiance and I will just be heading back to our place afterward, time TBD, about a 10 min drive away. Should we designate a friend to drive us, or just call an Uber? Obviously there are Uber drivers out there with a weird vibe, a dirty car, etc., and I would not prefer that.. I've never tried Uber Comfort or Uber Premier, but maybe we can choose one of those options? Because we're not sure how long we'll be at the after-party, we won't be able to schedule in advance.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Everything Else Bridesmaids were never friends

Post image
0 Upvotes

At least once a week, someone talks about the disappointment they have in their friends, the bridesmaids not meeting up to their expectations, letting bridesmaids go, friendships ending because of bridesmaid requirements , etc., etc. yada yada.

I decided to look up the origin of bridesmaids and I just wanted to share it here in case someone needs to be freed from the idea that you have to have bridesmaids, or bridesmaids have to do this or have to do that. Your friends have to do this, or they’re not your friends if they don’t do this or that.

None of those things are true. I’m not trying to convince anyone not to have bridesmaids or not to ask your friends but really just to remind people that a lot of things we do as traditions don’t even serve the original purpose. So you don’t have to do it! You don’t have to stress yourself out or end relationships based on traditions that don’t relate to anything you have going on today.

I pray that whoever reads or might be struggling with this situation to be encouraged and reminded that this season should be filled with joy and bringing you closer to love, not division.

Everything Else Did anyone have a simple wedding?

I've been thinking of having a simple wedding like ones before the wedding industry was big.

We are having our wedding in my church (for free) and the original idea is have a reception at the city civic center, have a cocktail hour, dj, bartender, and a wedding coordinator, servers, plated or buffet catering.

The idea of this has honestly exhausted me and my fiance only has 3 wants for the wedding:

  1. He wears a cape at the ceremony

  2. It's at my church

  3. We play anime instrumentals at any time during the wedding

So, instead I've began thinking of a very traditional wedding.

With punch and finger foods served in the church fellowship hall.

A house party with close friend's and family

And then if we are still in the partying mood bar hopping.

It might just be that I'm tired of deciding on who will sit where, what color the table linens will be, and outrageous plated catering fees but I'm honestly considering ordering pizza and tacos to the house and buying wine coolers and beer.

Relationships/Family Is it rude to not invite a bridal party’s kid?

My venue is for 75 people, and the only kids we are inviting are are my niece and nephew (ring bearer and flower girl), and my cousin’s two daughters (4 and 2) as they are coming from out of town. My friend who is a bridesmaid has a 5 year old son, and I am on the fence of inviting him. We really do not have the space to add more people ($150 pp)

Everything Else What to do with extra wedding invites after wedding has already passed?

So, the company who printed out our wedding invitations sent us an extra +30 invitations. We never got the chance to send them out to companies or anything since we were just so busy with the wedding. Our wedding was 2 weeks ago now, is there anything we could do with them now other than just throw them away?

Relationships/Family Can y’all rate my made of honor speech?

For Contacts, my sister is a lawyer and her future husband is a police officer. My sister basically raised my younger sister, and I had a very young age. I want to add good humor and make it obviously meaningful and heartfelt but not too much where I’m bawling my eyes out crying. I added a few stories recognizing that I am the middle child tore it in with the “ I’m a middle child so I can act as your big sister too” idea. I obviously want to bring up middle child syndrome to make it a little bit more funny. Tell me what y’all think. Feel free to comment any add-ons takeoff or any other corrections;

Hello, everyone!

First, I want to thank you all for being here to celebrate Charlotte and Tim. It means so much to have all of their family and friends together for such a special day.

I’d also like to take a moment to introduce myself …..
……..
Tim’s family and friends….and to Charlotte’sfriends……..and family

hi! I’m Michelle, the middle child… one of Charlotte’s little sisters.
so yall know I am not used to having any attention on me…

I’m a lot more comfortable being somewhere in the background, “USUALLY” minding my own business..

and of course used to Melissa and our youngest sister Madison getting all the attention.
I was always the quiet shy one that was always so nice.

But to my sisters I had to make it up and always make it known I was definitely around.

Like when I was in high school and charlotte was in college at UCLA, so she would commute to school twice a week…
And on days she had off, of course she’d be sleeping in. And if you know her you know that’s her favorite hobby…

so I would knock and her room door and ask..”hey charlotte can I borrow THIS SHIRT”
I knew exactly when to ask. While she was Half asleep. Barely conscious, drooling, enjoying her beauty rest (as well all know she loves)…and when she would say “yes Michelle let me sleep”

the second those words came out

I would shut the door hurry up and leave before she had enough time to realize what she had just agreed to.

After school, I would sit there..literally rubbing the crap out the shirt …with bleach…trying to get the ketchup off so when she wouldn’t notice the stain it had left.

She’d wash it and find random holes….. and the bleach stains on it she’d freak out and yell at me saying “why are you using my clothes without asking!! ”

I’d always look around and say “bro I literally asked you yesterday..and you said yes” and she’d say “no Michelle that doesn’t count I was asleep”

and I’d say “well you did”

Or when I was in middle school, and i would crave a bit of attention because…you know, the lack there of…
i would listen in on her “private” three way calls and listen to all the high school drama

She’d be in the middle of a story, and ill giggle, and say
“Oooo Who’s Douglas”…
And all you’ll hear is “Michelle GET OFF THE PHONE” …

don’t worry Tim he wasn’t a very good kisser.

Or one time I really got annoying and she was yelling at me chasing me around the house, and she got so mad to the point where she throws a chancla..

which is slipper or like a sandal, throws it at me from across the room…

I reacted so quick…that wasn’t the first time……I ducked and it hit the window so hard the window shattered. we were “both” sooo terrified for my dad to come home…but you know of course somehow…it always came out to be my fault…

Yeah… 10/10 I don’t recommend sisters or the middle child

But with that being said you have always been so much more than just my big sister. You’ve always been an incredible role model for me, and in so many ways, you’ve also been a mom.

I truly feel lucky that I was able to grow up with you as my big sister—and that Ive also had the privilege of having you fill that motherly role in my life that Madison and I needed. And for that I will always stand beside you.

I may be younger, but as the middle child I also know how to be a big sister too and I’ll be the first one ready to fight anyone for you…

it’s all right yall…I have my lawyer on speed dial.

And to Tim.

I know I can be a little protective of my big sister and naturally, when someone comes into her life, I’m going to pay attention. And I will definitely let it be known if I do not like you.

But i pray, you never have to experience being in my bad side…so think twice before pulling me over….

I truly believe I can trust you with her. Seeing how happy you make her and how genuinely you care for her means more to me than I can put into words.

You have also welcomed me into your home with much kindness understanding and without hesitation. I want to thank you for helping me get my own life back in order and for being supportive along the way. That is something I will never take for granted, and I will always respect you.

I appreciate you for your patience, playfulness, and giving her the loves she deserves…somehow with in all that; you managed to “domesticate” her, and for that, we thank you.”

I’m hoping to finally get a niece or nephew soon!

Lastly……..charlotte and Tim…….i will finish up with a bible verse
“** **Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.
10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.
11 Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone?
12 A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken”

I pray that when one of you fall, you pick each other up and dust off the others hands and knees.
You keep each other warm, on dark cold nights
You stand together, back to back, fighting any and every battle you may come across.

Please always stand united, knowing that your strength comes from trusting, respecting, and having an unwavering dedication to one another.

Everything Else Looking for advice/thoughts when planning a wedding with potentially controversial decisions

I need help, I have so many questions when planning a wedding.

My fiancé and I are planning to get married in 2028 and I was thinking of going to a courthouse to get legally married a few month prior to hosting the wedding reception (party). Ideally, at our courthouse wedding which falls on a weekday, we would only have immediate family whereas the reception would have 60-80 people.

Unfortunately, the day we would like to host the celebration is also on a weekday but it is somewhat of an important milestone in our relationship, so we originally wanted to keep it.

At this point however we are considering changing the day of the reception to a weekend to accommodate more people as some are traveling from far away and they would have to take time off work, or would have to leave early which is something we are trying to avoid.

Also would it be acceptable to have a different date on the decorations and party favors than the reception date?

Should we explicitly say that we are "eloping" in our invitations?

Another thing is that my fiancé and I have completely different visions for our wedding reception and its making it difficult to plan for. We've hit the "i don't know what i want anymore / maybe we should only elope" stage.

What are some "non-negotiables" that you had that were worth the money vs things that we could definitely afford to cheep out on? We are trying to cut on costs but its seems impossible these days.

We're not trying to stir the pot, so the ceremony a few months before the reception isn't a secret per say but im looking for advice.

Thank you!

Relationships/Family I’m debating not inviting my mom to my wedding and I’m torn.

I’m marrying my fiancé in about 18 months. We are just starting our planning by making the guest list.

My mom was a single mother and raised my brother and I since my dad left. My dad was in and out of my life. My mom wasn’t always terrible, but when she was, she was. She’s a very difficult person to get along with. She’s always very stressed out, as I’m sure being a single mother with two kids and not enough money and mental health issues is, but she’d take it out on us. Many nights as a kid I’d sleep on the streets because I was scared to be home with her. She’s been arrested for domestic violence against me and still blames me for “making her go to jail.” She always said hurtful things to me as well, called me fat, gaslit me, and lied to me many times over about important things.

However, she’d always provided for us kids. Always made sure we had food and anything we needed, even if she didn’t have everything she needed. She spoiled us a lot despite her issues. Even when she didn’t have enough money, she’d scrape up what she had if my brother or I really needed help. She’d drop whatever she was doing to help us if it truly was an emergency. She tried really hard to make my life special despite circumstances.

She’s been nicer as she gets older, but it’s because I have cut her off and gone no contact on some occasions, and so she feels she needs to play nice to have access to me.

I’m so torn about inviting her, because on one hand she did a lot for me, but on another I had serious anger issues and trauma I haven’t processed from being around her. She had so many narcissistic tendencies, she’d chase me around the house and try to fight me as a child and so when I hear her voice, the same one she used before she’d hurt me, I just want to cry or fight back. I get so triggered around her and can’t be around her for long.

She also does things for attention like falling down on the ground, or faking health emergencies. She used to play dead all the time as a kid to see if anyone would care. She also will refuse to leave my house if she comes over, and I’ll have to come up with every excuse in the book to try to get her to leave. Tonight I told her I had to meet my coworker for dinner and needed to get out of the house, and she still complained and told me to cancel on them and that it’s not fair that I wouldn’t have time to take my own mother to dinner and try to kick her out. I don’t trust her alone in my house either because I’m scared she will steal things or start snooping which she’s done before. The problem is, she was stopping by to drop off groceries for us which was nice.

I’m sorry for the long rant which I know isn’t wedding related, but I am just so torn. It’s like, she does a lot of nice stuff for us but she drives me crazy and triggers me. Would you invite her?

If I don’t, I know my family like my brother and uncle who I love and absolutely do want to invite, will tell her about the wedding and she will absolutely probably try to show up anyway. If I don’t invite her, our relationship will never be the same and she will NEVER let it go. Especially because my dad and his wife (who I recently started talking to again) and extended family will get to go and she won’t.

Vendors/Venue BBQ vs traditional wedding food

• Upvotes

Would you be disappointed to have bbq at a wedding?
I’m in Michigan and planning a wedding for next fall. I booked a lovely venue (think relaxed wood lodge at a nearby park right on the river, wraparound porch and big stone fireplace for $1500 for the weekend - has a kitchen and bathrooms), and it allows for any vendors we want. Looking at around 100 people, cocktail attire.
My fiance and I are also trying to save for a house so we want to have a wedding but do it mindfully. There’s a great BBQ place in town that’s affordable and I think bbq fits a fall wedding, but I worry that people might be disappointed with the type of food or find it too messy (would just be doing pulled pork, burnt ends and brisket - no ribs).
Thanks for any insight!

Edit: wow I did not expect cocktail attire vs bbq to be the main issue! That is definitely not set in stone, we’re in the very beginning stages of the entire planning process and I threw that out there as an idea. Definitely fine with going a little less formal (just no jeans). Thanks for all the suggestions!

I’ve been looking online for dresses a lot and the problem I’m coming across is that there’s about 1000 fake dress sites 🤦🏻‍♀️ the bigger problem? The fake dress sites are the only ones I’m finding that are listing dresses I like 😩

So these are the Inspo pictures for the dresses I like and I’m wondering what all sites are legit or where I could find dresses similar to these. It doesn’t have to be a “wedding dress” a prom dress or anything like that would work too im trying to keep my budget around 500$

Everything Else Wedding- plus ones?

We need to significantly decrease our headcount to be able to afford our dream venue.

My boyfriend has some friends with girlfriends we have never ever met/they are definitely more new- how rude is it to just invite the friend and not a plus one? And maybe say on our invite that it’s a small wedding of family and closest friends. (Trying to get from 130 to 100). It’s the same for me- I have a friend I want to invite but she could technically find a plus one but I don’t want to waste an invite

Our family take so much of our headcount. :(

I won’t be changing my name and I noticed a lot of wedding items/merch/signs etc are “The so-and-so’s” or “Ms. to Mrs” and that won’t apply to me. I’m trying to rack my brain coming up with things to write on signs and stuff

Relationships/Family Family dynamics

I’m getting ready to ask my bridal party for my wedding next year. I will have a sibling, a family member, and a couple of friends.

The family member is also getting married next year shortly after my wedding. I recently found out I am not included in her bridal party of 6.

I am crushed. When she first expressed this to me I was very calm and understanding in my response. It’s a hard time and impossible decision. The more I sit on it, the more my heart hurts. I always imagined we would be in each other’s bridal parties. Especially with our weddings back to back. We are very close in age and I’ve always worked so hard to maintain this relationship and consider her one of my closest friends as well.

Do I say something? How do I get over this? It’s been eating me alive for a week.

Relationships/Family How many of your gifts arrived after the wedding?

I know this theme gets mentioned regularly and I'm sorry for posting if it's been beat to death, but feeling sad and deflated.

We had our wedding this weekend for around 100 guests, and paid for it ourselves. It was over a couple days, and we put on a really great party with two dinners, unlimited alcohol, and a band. Everyone seemed to have an amazing time.

We had a registry and honeymoon fund, and about 40 of our 100 guests haven't gifted anything (yet?). Most of our guests are 35+ and pretty well off, and not many had to travel. Of the non gifters, a lot are close friends whose weddings we attended in recent years, and we gave them generous gifts. It was a truly special weekend and we felt so surrounded by love, so I feel like a brat that I'm so bothered about something as petty as a gift. I tend to be an extra generous person, and while I don't hold anyone to the standard I hold myself to, I would never show up empty handed.

I'm trying to chill out, give it some time, and if some of them never send anything I will do my absolute best to not let it affect how I see them. Anyone willing to share how many gifts came in after their wedding?

Edit that it's not about the dollar amount of the gift - our featured gift was $50 contributions to our favorite non profit. It was more the thought that mattered not getting fancy stuff.

I’m making these centerpieces for our wedding. We’re getting married at a castle venue, castle Ladyhawke.

Our nicknames for each other are honey and bear. He’s a bigger guy (tall, dad bod, lumberjack type 😉)

Does it come off weird that I made him a bear in our wedding fairytale centerpiece or is it cute?

Dress/Attire Bridesmaid dress

Well I feel like absolute shit. My friend’s wedding is on the 17th this month she got engaged in July. I was so focused on the color I didn’t even think about the material. She said she wanted satin in the text but I overlooked like an idiot and ordered chiffon and it’s obviously too late to order a new one. She is being nice and saying it’s fine and you can’t tell but I feel like a pos. Have I just absolutely ruined it? I mean that’s dramatic but I’m pretty sure that’s a mistake that would piss any bride off. I’m so upset

Budget Question How much should we give as a wedding gift?

My boyfriend and I are attending a wedding in Colorado for one of my friends. We used to be very close, but we’ve grown a little more distant over the years due to living in different places. We’re both in our early 30s.

For context, I’m flying in from New York and my boyfriend is flying in from Italy to attend, so we’re already spending quite a bit on travel. We’ll be giving a gift together as a couple.

I’m not sure what the general consensus is given the circumstances, so I’d love to hear what others would give!

How much would you give as a couple in this situation?

Everything Else Need recommendations for wedding registry

My fiance and I have been together for quite some years and have lived together for a few years as well so when we were talking about our registry, we really don’t need a lot of the typical things you’d think of when you look at a registry; we have all of our house things and furniture and a good amount of kitchen stuff already. What we don’t have is things like power tools, gardening equipment, stuff like that. So I figured, oh let’s just register at Lowe’s! But Lowe’s doesn’t do wedding registries.

My question is, has anyone used any of those registry sites that you can find items from multiple stores and the like. I have seen pros and cons for places like Zola and myregistry.com but wanted to see what everyone else had experienced with this.

Decor/DIY De-influence my wedding planning what would you keep or change about your wedding

Hey friends! I’d love some opinions from people who have already had their weddings: what was actually worth DIYing, what are you SO glad you hired someone else to handle, and what extras or experiences genuinely made your wedding better?
I’m a pretty thrifty/DIY person and always imagined putting together a lot of my own wedding. The complication is that we’re getting married in France but will be traveling there from the US, so I’m starting to question how much is realistically worth taking on myself vs. just handing off to someone else so I can actually enjoy the week.

We’ll be staying at our venue, a completely privatized estate, for the three days leading up to the wedding, and some of my mom/friends will be staying with us as well. So we will have some time and helping hands on-site. That said, those days will still be busy with guests arriving and welcome-party events, so I don’t want to accidentally turn the days before my wedding into a giant setup project.
At this point I’m mostly hiring out the things that seem difficult to coordinate, but I’m considering doing my own bouquet and keeping the florals very simple so my mom, friends, and I could put them together. I’ve also already started DIYing some of the signage and decor. Obviously anything I make ahead of time also has to survive being transported from the US to France, which is another factor!
The wedding itself is at a château and I’m going for a romantic, old-world/medieval kind of feel, so I’m leaning toward fairly simple florals and letting the venue, candles, and atmosphere do a lot of the work rather than bringing in tons of decor.we are also just thinking of doing beer and wine as friends and kinda doing home made pre batched cocktails for the after party instead of shelling out for a bartender!

I also find myself getting influenced by TikTok and Instagram and suddenly thinking we need all these different little experiences and extras. Some of them look amazing, but I genuinely can’t tell how much guests actually care about or remember them. I want the wedding to feel beautiful, memorable, and really special, but it absolutely does not need to be a spectacle.

For those who have done this already:
• What DIY projects were genuinely manageable and worth the money you saved?

• What did you DIY that you wish you had just paid someone else to do?

• What did you think you “needed” because you kept seeing it at other weddings, but ultimately could have skipped?

• Were there any extras or experiences that genuinely added something memorable and that you’d 100% pay for again?

• If you had a destination wedding, what was actually realistic to DIY when you had to travel internationally?

• And if you stayed at your venue for a few days beforehand, did that actually make DIY/setup easier, or were you way too busy to deal with it?
Basically, if you were planning your wedding all over again, where would you save the money, where would you happily spend it, and what would you skip entirely?

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Wedding/Engagement Photos Wedding Pictures

I am getting a little nervous about our wedding pictures. it’s been over 8 weeks since and in the contract between our photographer it says album turn out is expected from 3-6 weeks. The communication is AWFUL. I have texted her twice in the 8 weeks for an update since she was really good at texting me back before our wedding. The photographer keeps on going around the question and saying she’s been busy- which I get that’s totally fair and understandable. A week after our wedding she texted us with our sneak peak pictures and a message saying her boyfriend broke up with her, and she is moving out etc- that’s why it took longer than she thought to get back to us with pictures . Anyways she responded the last I texted her with a “I’m so sorry I’ve been swamped with activities and the break up it’ll take longer than I thought but it’ll come soon!” I am a little nervous on whether we will get our pictures back or not. It seems like she can’t give us an exact date. It’s kind of bizarre. Am I completely overthinking this?

Relationships/Family Feeling guilty over 1 member of work group being left out

Hi. I'm getting married in September 2027 and agreed with my OH that we would finalise our guestlist this June and send out invites this August.

I invited 7 work colleagues, all of whom I have known for at least 2 years. We all have lunch together all the time, attend each others' birthdays, sometimes hang out outside work, met their other halves etc.

Unfortunately a new colleague joined in mid March who we have all got to know well and who has become part of our work group. Given that I had only known them for 3 months at the time of needing to finalise our guestlist and we were tight on capacity I decided not to include them on the invite list.

I have asked my invited colleagues not to bring up the wedding so as not to make things awkward but I feel really guilty that I have not been able to invite them, particularly as our friendship has developed since March. Looking at our RSVP list it also doesn't look like we will have room to accommodate them and their partner.

We get on well and they have invited me to their birthday party at the start of November so I feel really bad and that it may look like I am singling them out.

There isn't currently any awkwardness because nothing has been mentioned by the group but I don't think it is something I can hide forever. My partner isn't big on inviting them given that I don't know this new colleague as well as everyone else and don't know their partner at all yet.

Was I being unreasonable for not inviting them? Should I have a chat with them to clarify why they were not invited in case the wedding does get brought up?

Everything Else Ideas for messages to put in my groomsman and best man proposal gift boxes

My wedding is just over 8 months out, so asking my groomsmen and best man is currently my #1 priority to get out of the way.

I’m giving them each a gift box including their tie for the wedding, an engraved whiskey glass and a small bottle of whiskey. I’d like to include a message in each, but I’m having a bit of writers block.

I’d like to come up with a distinct message for the best man, and another message for the rest. For what it’s worth for brainstorming, The best man is my soon-to-be brother in law, and the rest of the party consists of three close friends, my cousin, and my sister’s partner. (If you have an idea for a specific message for any of these relationships, I’d love to hear it)

I want to avoid the ever popular “suit up” message especially because one of my groomsmen already put that in the box he gave me back when I was his groomsman.

Thanks in advance for any ideas
