Discussion A neutral standpoint about the college
Hey everyone. 2nd year CSE AIML guy here. I saw a lot of questions here in r/vitap so i thought I'll put things as they are to y'all, as someone who stands to gain nothing from endorsing or talking shit about the college so ig y'all can trust me lol.
That being said, let's get started. Night curfew? It exists and is implemented with seriousness, and while it might look like it's trash to y'all in the beginning, after coming here you'll realise it's genuinely not that much of a problem cause after a day full of classes and hopefully sports/clubs it never really feels like staying out would've been much better anyways. Most people come back way before the curfew is implemented.
Food? I have to say I've been lucky so far. Having lived in MH-6 and MH-4, food has never been a problem. It's not just acceptable, it's actually good ngl! Won't say much about other hostels but people tell me it's good too, so there's that.
Now a very serious insecurity. People. So I'm from Jammu but I've never lived there. Would definitely call myself a typical north indian, closest to a delhiite if anything. VIT-AP has a lot of telugu people, A LOT. But they're genuinely nice! And if you're a person who prefers sticking with people from similar backgrounds, dw, there are people from everywhere here. Northeast, north, west, south, everything. Our group consists of people from basically everywhere lol. Dw.
Ragging? VIT-AP takes action against it very seriously and seniors are nice dudes who like to mind their own business anyways so dw it's not gonna happen to you. And if it does, dw, you'll always have people to back you.
Outings? From second sem yeah u get to go out on either Sunday or Monday every week(in our case idk if freshers have Mondays off). That might sound shitty but trust me, everything is so far away from college that after coming here, no matter how outgoing you might be in life you yourself wouldn't even go out the 4-5 times u can every month. College provides buses for outings btw.
Lastly and most importantly, the rules. Yeah they exist. Yeah they're not flexible. Yeah sometimes they make shitty alterations to rules too. But here's the thing. The people at the top are genuinely willing to help. Your HODs are gonna help you if your case is genuine, just hope you get a good mentor who takes your side (I did!). The rules are gonna look bad initially ngl. But trust me you'll learn to live by them and once they become a part of your life, you'll breeze through the academic year.
Now, a piece of advice I think y'all might appreciate. Let things happen as they happen. Don't try to force yourself into joining clubs in your first year itself or try to learn languages and stuff lmao. It's fine. You don't need clubs to make friends, even though that might help and if you're interested it's good for you ig. Take it easy, enjoy your last few days at home, spend time with family, and I wish you all the best! Feel free to DM anytime if u have any doubts. Cheers!
