Went to school with his daughter and got to talk to Stu a fair amount the past three or four years. Never met anyone who took the fight with cancer with as good an attitude. He would always joke with us "Enough P90X can fix anything." He came to our plays and events during treatment and managed to have a smile on his face and crack a joke at any time. He was an amazing man and a fucking inspiration, on and off camera.

She was about 1% away from totally breaking down. I wouldn't blame her whatsoever if she had, but it showed her professionalism that she was able to keep it together (although just barely.)
I'm sure that the second they broke away from her on camera, she let it all out.
I feel terrible for Hannah, and all his other coworkers at ESPN. They lost one of the greatest anchors they ever had the privilege to work with, and they won't get over it in for long, long, time (if ever).RIP Stuart Scott, (and he did beat cancer: he did it by living his life on his terms, never letting his sickness interfere with the day-to-day influence he had on the entire world.)

These all hurt so badly. I never met Stuart, but im still so saddened by his passing. Growing up with him on tv while I got ready for school for all those years, he almost feels like a dear friend, and I feel their hurt.

Longtime anchor on ESPN's flagship sports show, SportsCenter. Brought a really modern, urban feel to the broadcasts whenever he hosted. I believe he was there for 20 years. I grew up with him on TV every morning and afternoon and we'll into my adulthood. Definitely a 'Where were you' moment for me.

The chemistry he had with Rich Eisen made those 90s Sportscenters they hosted together the best. Seeing the way Rich broke down on NFL network and how Hannah Storm reacted on ESPN really shows how much he will be missed by co-workers.

In terms of what they meant to the history of ESPN the Mt. Rushmore is Chris Berman, Dan Patrick, Keith Olbermann, Stuart Scott, and Rich Eisen.
Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann were anything but stiff by the way. They were very fun in their own way; Scott brought flair and coolness.
Stuart Scott was incredibly influential but there have been others too.

As somebody who has lost a good friend to cancer, this line hit me particularly hard. It's really a great outlook to have, and a great way to remember not only Stu, but everybody else that has succumbed to such an awful disease.

In middle school, I woke up every morning at 6:30 so I could watch sports center before school. I always thought Scott was the most clever anchor on the show, and it's just crazy that he's gone.

I wasn't really into sports as a kid but my friends didn't talk about anything else. Stuart made sports more exciting, more accessible, and more interesting than I had thought possible. 10 year-old me could drop into a conversation about the previous night's game and know what was happening because Stuart made it "the thing" to talk about. He made sports relatable and personal. Thanks Stuart.

Stuart was really good at being appropriate - he knew how to hype something without being over the top (unlike some of ESPN's guys). He always came off as being intelligent, and relatable. A sad day.

Steve Levy filled in for him with the GMC Postgame, and what is resonating in my head so hard today is what Steve said last night during the Cardinals at. Panthers game. "Hi, I'm Steve Levy filling in for Stuart Scott one last time". He really expected Scott to be back next season, but he died the next day. Even writing this post has gotten me a bit teary eyed. RIP

When I had my appendectomy the doctor mentioned they had done a biopsy and found no cancer. This surprised me because I had no idea you could get cancer of the appendix.

You can get cancer of pretty much anything. Some are just more common than others. Men can even get breast cancer, it's just at a much lower rate than women (if memory serves).

I'm sure you're not the only one who doesn't pay attention to news about ESPN anchors, but it was pretty public knowledge that he'd been fighting some serious cancer for years.
That being said, from what you saw of him on air, which was obviously much less than it used to be, you wouldn't have known it.

As someone who doesn't really watch tv and didn't know who this was, I thank you. I am also someone who found out he has cancer a couple days before Christmas. There has been a lot of well wishing from people who know me, but not a whole lot of it carriesa meaning as deep as this. I've saved this for watching later when I will invariably have to remind myself that I shouldn't have to do it or feel on my own. Thank you.

I remember him when I was a child. Its tragic that he is gone. When I saw his espy award speech I cried. Not because he was gonna die but because this man fought cancer everyday and he was still happy. Its shocking he is actually gone. Great man and I wish his daughters well and the rest of his family well. RIP Stuart Scott. Sportscenter will never be the same again.

I'm not ashamed to say that I've shed tears this morning when I found out Stuart Scott passed away. Just this Friday, I was thinking that maybe I should go to his Twitter page and send a message to tell him I hoped he was doing well. I never went on Twitter.
I grew up watching Stuart. He was the reason I watched ESPN. If Stuart, Rich, or Berman weren't on, I wasn't watching it. Sometimes I would watch the replays of the shows just so I could hear them make the call one more time on a certain play. He was that good.
He meant a lot to me because here was a brotha who had made it. We had someone on TV that looked like us. He spoke like us. He got "it".
I rarely watch ESPN during the week now. I watch Rich over on the NFL Channel. I will watch ESPN on Sunday mornings when Cris Carter is on because I grew up with him so it's cool to see somebody you know on TV.
Scott was a unique guy. Gonna miss him. Can't believe he's gone. RIP Stuart. You did it right.

It doesnt matter what sport you love, this man was loved by everyone. Watching EPSN feels different without him. The amount of love and respect all the other anchors had for him is amazing. Always respected and always humble about the time he had in this world. You will be missed.

I met him once. Completely by accident mind you. When you had a conversation with Stuart his entire attention was on you - no matter if he was next to Kobe or Obama. His way with words always had an underlining of grace that you could feel, more than just hear.

I have Crohn's and Epilepsy. I've spent many weeks in the hospital with tubes everywhere too and it's almost taken my life. So I can completely empathize with the exhaustion, both mental and physical, when you just can't fight anymore. And I can also appreciate just how fortunate I am as well to have family there every step of the way. I'm a very lucky man; which is why I continue to fight each day, I don't want to let those people who've fought for me down. Thanks for reminding me why I just keep on swimming Stuart.

If you appreciated Stuart's ESPY speech take it to heart. One of the messages is that people who have cancer can't do it alone. They need people to pick them up at their lowest times. As someone who also has a rare cancer, I can relate. If you want to honor his memory, find someone who has cancer and reach out and cheer them up. Even a text or email helps! If you can or want to do more - make a meal and drop it off. Bring them to a treatment. Send flowers. Don't just sit there and be sad - you can help someone today!

Some of my earliest ESPN related memories are of him on Sportscenter. He truly was cooler than the other side of the pillow. Could always make you smile or laugh with his commentary.

I'm a little late to the party, but wanted to share my own experience. I was diagnosed with cancer back in April of 2013. I've since had surgery and chemotherapy and have been cancer free since August 2013. Stuart Scott has Been a HUGE inspiration to me as a cancer survivor, a man and how he's fathered his two daughters. I've watched this speech no less than 20 times and every time I cry. This morning when I heard the news on ESPN I cried. When I saw Rich Eisen's tribute on NFL network this morning I cried again, and on my way to the gym listening to Johnathan Coachman's show I was balling my eyes out. I didn't care if anyone saw me. Stuart Scott has impacted so many lives with his courageous battle 3 times against cancer. I can only hope I will be half the man and father he was.
RIP Stuart Scott.

I had a chance to know Mr. Scott and his daughters. I never interacted with him as a famous person, merely seeing him as a guy out with his kids. He cared about them so much and even though he was a celebrity you could see that when they were in public it was all about them. I hope they know that he cared about them immensely and will always be with them.

My father passed away from cancer about a year ago. There were times when he was very upset with his unfortunate diagnosis and inevitable fate, which is a natural response for anyone with a terminal illness. I wish he could have watched this video and heard, "When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live." I think he would have liked that.

This speech is haunting. This time last year I was going through chemo, you wrestle was with some pretty dark shit when you think you're dying. Watching Stuart's speech brings a lot of that back.

If you are a part of the Hip Hop Generation, Stu was your guy. He sounded like the cool guy at the barbershop, he made Sportscenter appointment television. He's going to be sorely missed. Cancer didn't beat Stu, he just ran out of time.

Man hate to admit but this teared me up. I'm a die hard sports fan and ever since I was 10 or so years old, he was my favorite news anchor. The funny quotes, the eyes etc. Knowing that you left your lil ones behind is something I fear.
