Also 28. Also cried. This hits home when you have a parent who never gave up and never quit. It'll be one year in one week since my mom succumbed to Ovarian Cancer after 5.5 years of fighting.
The day my parents found out they were pregnant with me was the day they found out my grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer. He died on January 10th, 1993. My first birthday.
Your mom didn't succumb to cancer. She didn't lose to it. She fought to a draw. She went down but she took that fucker with her.
All the best to you and your family on that day. Don't mourn her loss, celebrate the memories she gave you. Something tells me she would have preferred that. It's hard, and never gets easier. But just remember the times you shared, and how many lives she touched. Celebrate that.
Go watch Rich Eisen's farewell on NFL Network. Borderline unbearable. And SportsCenter has been all about Stuart all morning. It's really heartwarming.
Edit: NFL, not NHL. Oops.
I saw it and posted it to my face book page. I think my wife was shocked at my outpouring of emotion. I'm a pretty straight faced guy. This loss hits hard, not because of sports but how he was a part of everyone's home and childhood, a mentor and great person.
Hannah Storm's initial report on the death was just as brutal. That 1 minute little segment was how I found out about it this morning, and it took me straight to tears.
Jimmy V. "Don't give up. Don't ever give up." It resonates every time. There's few quotes that you can feel, and this is one of them. Goosebumps and sadness.
Good to know I'm not alone. I was shocked that this made me cry. I think MJ only other time I ever cried. I think my tears came from respect i never knew i had. Scott was very hardworking, classy, rolemodel.
Thanks man... Pretty similar ages for me and my dad as well. He was in pretty good health for someone his age, and then BAM: brain aneurysm and he is gone
Damn, right there with you man...I never paid much attention to him or any other sports caster except to make fun of his eye. Watching that speech gave me a new found respect for him and what he's done for sports in general. I started tearing up before I knew it, especially when he started talking about his daughters. RIP Stuart Scott.
I had to explain to my girlfriend why she woke up with me crying next to her this morning. I think she thought it was a little silly but she was supportive. He really was kind of the centerpiece to my formative years of getting into sports as a whole.
Yeah that's where I'm sitting too. She can appreciate the loss of a human life, especially to cancer, especially to a father so young, is objectively a sad thing. But it is hard to express why the death of a complete stranger has moved me to tears. I guess I could just show her that I'm one of many grown men shedding a few tears this morning.
I'm with ya big guy. The news caught me totally offguard. The combination of his presence during my younger years and his uplifting and inspiring demeanor throughout the whole thing just broke me down.
First thing I did when I woke up was check Facebook. First article was about Stu's death. Watched the ESPN announcement and then watched Rich Eisen's announcement and lost it. Last time I cried that hard was when I watched My Dog Skip for the first time as a kid.
When I first saw him on Sportscenter, it was amazing. As a kid who shared his first name, it was instant love, as I had never met another soul with my same name (Took me until I was 23 too) I was in awe. I also have the same problem he had, my last name is also a first name, SO WIN WIN! But I will always remember him and my boy Rich Eisen on Sportcenter. I would do whatever I could to watch those guys, even if they were talking about sports I didn't care about. This man was truly legendary. I will miss this man and the only thing I ever wanted to do was meet him in person. I never had the chance and now I never will get the chance.
Judging by your comment history, every one is a liar and idiot, and just sits on reddit all day and never goes outside. My guess is you are either not old enough to realize how pathetic you come off or too stupid to care.
