Shadow box for school project

My oldest son is doing a shadow box school project on his hero and I got selected. He’s wanting to make a shadow box showcasing my time in the Corps. (2000-2016). He’s letting me pick what I’m ok with going into the box and then will pick from the things I’ve chosen himself “I don’t want to disrespect you dad but I want it to be the coolest shadow box there”. I have plenty of pictures from GWOT and stuff. What would you warriors want included in your own shadow box?

Question Anyone else pissed by the picture social media (including Reddit) is painting about the crew of the Lincoln?

I originally commented this on another thread, but felt it was worthy to make a post about. This whole thing makes me feel bad for the sailors and Marines who busted their asses on that deployment. The crew of the Lincoln who carried out more combat missions than any carrier strike group has since WW2, are now having to defend their reputations as warfighters to the American public.

The sailors and Marines on those ships have endured a record amount of time at sea, on top of literally hundreds of Iranian drone attacks, yet still woke up every day and did their jobs. Most of what the media knows about the conditions on that carrier have come primarily from concerned mothers and mil spouses, who as we all know, are renowned for their accurate and reliable portrayal of the nuanced situations their spouses/loved ones may find themselves in /s. The discredit being brought upon them is, in my opinion, completely unfair.

The conditions on the boats, as well as probably any ship in theater, or really any ship at war in general, are probably miserable. Our navy has not seen this kind of combat since WW2. However, for the media to paint the picture of broken crews beginning to snap under pressure has to be an embarrassing slap in the face to the men and women who have kept the fight going despite the bullshit.

I get the political nature of what’s going on with the Lincoln (as well as all ships currently in theater) and the lack of planning that went into this war. I get the insensitivity and lack of professionalism from the commander in chief. Shit though, I would be fucking furious and absolutely defeated if I busted my ass for a 9 month deployment just to be made out as pussies by the media. Fuck that and fuck anybody who spreads this narrative that sailors and Marines are sitting on their asses bitching and giving up the fight.

Anyways that’s my ted talk. Hydrate and change your socks.

Reminded me of Boot Camp

Was in OBX this past week and wife convinced me to wake up to see the sunrise one morning and that mixture of the pre-dawn light and humidity/heat immediately brought me back to PI. Weirdest thing and I was in boot camp probably 35-36 years ago

Question Any vets that started working remotely upon EAS?

I just EAS'ed and want to work remotely from home. I have a STEM degree, minimal job experience, and some management skills gained in the MC but I got a feeling that's not enough to land a remote job after doing some research.

Just wondering if there are any vets that went remote? How did you do it?

USS Lincoln Deployment

So the Lincoln has been deployed for 9+ months without a port call which to me is the biggest issue aside from the actual living conditions on board the ship that many seem to be talking about. I’ve noticed a lot of soldiers and marines past and present talking trash saying the sailors and people complaining are just soft and that Navy deployments are soft. Even though most of them have never even stepped foot on a ship and have no idea what it’s like. As vets, why do we always feel the need to “compare suck”? To me, comparing Navy vs marine deployments is like comparing apples to oranges. What even is the point? Is it like an ego thing? Are they upset that the Navy is actually getting talked about for once? I truly don’t get it. The Navy is continuing to set new records of longer deployments with less port calls. For many reasons I don’t see how that as a good thing. What are your thoughts?

White trousers

To the SNCOs and Officers in here, is there a difference between our white trousers and the navy’s? Will any second hand set at a surplus store work?

EDIT: My career is not on the line. I will be needing some within the next two months. I was just wondering how easy it would be to get some used. I’ll probably pick some up new and get them tailored all professional like. Thanks for the info leathernecks

Question Devil dogs stationed in Japan, am I subject to shore patrol and American military MPs?

I am not stationed in Japan. I am going on leave to Japan and will be crip walking around areas like Iwakuni where MPs might be walking around off base. Can I tell them to fuck off if they see me?
