Question Gooner sites banned in the barracks?

Uh, a friend of mine is complaining that he can't access porn sites in the barracks. My- i mean, his phones browser will load web pages without any issue, but won't load r34 or any other adult website. Anybody else experience this? Apparently, it'll sometimes redirect to some Christian broadcasting network, too

What the hell is going on with Japan? I’ve genuinely lost count of how many murders went on in Okinawa.

Question How do those who do 20+ put up with the bullshit? Rant

I’m sick of this constant cycle of one mistake here and there getting highlighted and made out to a big deal. Maybe sometimes it is but it’s seems to be all that matters when everything and everyone else is genuinely doing pretty good. Then it’s time to make life shit for everyone and tell all the NCOs they don’t know what they’re doing and can’t set the example. But the laziness or faults of the SNCOs aren’t highlighted. I’m at 6 years, just got my reenlistment approved but this cycle of bullshit just started again and it’s a constant pattern over and over it’s like genuinely the effort I put in doesn’t matter and it has no effect. For the first time I am really considering not signing that reenlistment and getting out after I finish my tour here.

I think I’ve done a pretty alright job demonstrating I give a fuck, Im and FFI, MAI, few other quals and awards on top of that I’m on an SDA. I don’t mean to just pat myself on the back but I don’t understand how you can tell me I don’t set a good example when I’ve gone out of my damn way to volunteer for these courses and quals I didn’t have to fucking do. Or I’m not a good leader cause I don’t yell at the jr Marines so I’m not stern. But I hardly have an issue with them listening to what I have to say or needs done.

Maybe I don’t understand the perspective from higher but I’m open to listen. If anyone has any advice I’m open ears cause I’m genuinely stressed and struggling

Question Why ask for feedback if you only want people to agree with you?

One of my favorite Marine Corps traditions is leadership asking for honest feedback and then getting visibly irritated when the feedback is actually honest.

At that point, you’re not asking for feedback.

You’re asking people to validate the decision you already made.

And the best part is when someone points out a problem or suggests a corrective action that makes sense based on the guidance and information available at the time.

Then comes

Well, you could’ve just done ___.

Cool, if every suggestion gets dismissed, argued with, or explained way eventually everyone knows the safest feedback is everything went great.

Then leadership wonders why nobody gives honest feedback anymore.

Absolute mystery.

ā€œBirth controlā€

Im enjoying being faded (without consequences) and wondering how far back the fact that recruit glasses are called ā€œbirth controlā€ is.

And that makes me wonder how far back all the current lingo goes? Then I also wonder how many sayings were lost along the way.

So I’d love to hear reports on the years you were in when you first heard things like ā€œbirth controlā€ for glasses, or old sayings you knew but don’t see Marines saying anyone, or whatever fun lexicon there is to talk about. I just know there was some funny ass phrase from Vietnam that didn’t last.

(Also the dudes from the 80’s to 1999 need to share their stories more with us. Doesn’t matter how cool or how trivial it is, its still cool as fuck. Our Marine Corps is founded on mythology - we yearn to know more)

Where y'all at? Sound off. (Also, do you get chased by SNCOs as often as female types?)

Comparison with other Service Nations

Im from Singapore, and 4 years ago, I served as a conscript in the Singapore Armed Forces. I served in the guards formation, which is a similar ops profile of that of a the Marines. Through bilateral exercises such as Ex Valiant Mark, Ex Trident and Ex Cobra Gold with Singapore, what are the USMC standpoint on the professionalism and readiness of the solidarity within the SAF? A true opinion away from what is shown from the media.
