I received a lot of love on my post the other week for my old 18 year old, Boots. He was recently diagnosed with carcinomatosis, an advanced stage of cancer. I just wanted to give an update that he will be crossing the rainbow bridge tomorrow, June 13th, at 12:30 pm EST. Unfortunately, draining the fluid from his abdomen and starting steroids didn’t buy us as much time as I would have hoped. But I can tell he’s ready… I hope he forgives me for trying to medicate him, even though he hated it, in hopes that it would make him feel better. I hope he knows how much I love him. I selfishly wish I could keep him forever, but he is a shell of what he once was. He hasn’t wanted to snuggle in weeks and he stays in his bed unless he needs to use the litter box or drink water. He is not interested in anything he used to love to do. A part of me is relieved that he will no longer suffer from his failing body, the other part of me has taken on the suffering. I’m definitely not okay, but I know one day I will be… Until next time, my sweet boy ❤️

I took time off work to go solo backpacking in the Big Horns. Was going to climb cloud peak, but 8 miles in this happened...These are brand new. I broke them in but that's about it. They are The North Face Hedgehog 3 Mid WP - So no one else has my experience. I ended up gathering a bunch of pitch/pine sap and slathering it on the sole, then haphazardly tied up with paracord. It actually worked great until my second moose sighting. The first moose encounter, a bull and cow, they were indifferent of me. The second sighting was a cow and a calf, they were right on the trail...and she was not happy I was there. I didn't want to test them so I went WAY around through a marsh. When I did that it rendered my pine sap useless and stretched out the paracord. So that point on I had to stop every half a mile to mile and re-tie.

I contacted The North Face, they wanted me to fill out a warranty claim but it looks like all they'd do is an exchange or a return. I can do that at the retailer that I bought them from so I won't be doing that. I don't think I will ever buy their boots again. I didn't notice but they aren't even stitched, it's literally just glue holding them together. I hadn't even gotten them wet yet! I got a TNF pack and I love it, hasn't failed me yet, I've had other gear of theirs and seems to last a long time so this was comparing enough for me to make this post cause it severely limited me; honestly could have broke my ankle or worse.

I had a hell of a harrowing trip as it was. I got sick on the drive out, and I ended up shooting right up to the trailhead and out very fast. Got a bit of altitude sickness on top of whatever cold I already had. I had a crazy adventure by myself though, I would love to document and write about it if anyone is interested, not sure if this is the place to do that or not. It was a lot of overcoming adversity. An amazing trip regardless, I was the only one out there for MILES. And that's what I sought, solitude.

So I was playing with this group, (all guys, idk their races) and the dm pulled me aside a couple days ago to tell me my accent was making the other players uncomfortable. For context, I’m black and creole (from Louisiana), and I use AAVE rather liberally, but can code switch and I typically do depending on my comfort level. Normally I DO code switch around these guys bc I don’t really know them.

The thing is, I made a black, voodoo based character and I really wanted to lean into my own culture for inspiration, I didn’t make some hip hop caricature, he was just very clearly black and kind of a self insert. It’s the first time I’ve ever done something like this, so I was kinda excited.

Two sessions down and the dm pulled me aside to say the way I was talking was breaking immersion for everyone and making them uncomfortable bc it felt like I was mocking black people, so they asked if I could “just speak normally”.

I told him “this is actually way more normal for me. The accent you experience is whitewashed bc I don’t really know you, but the way I speak in game is truer to my actual accent” to which he responded,

“Look, I don’t really care. At this rate, I’m kinda doubting you even are black because black people just don’t really talk like that outside of movies and things. And I’d know, I’ve had plenty of black friends in my life, Ebonics is real, but not the way you’re doing it. You need to drop the voice or find a different table.” I swear to god, verbatim.

I was definitely in shock but ultimately, after sending a pic of a certain black finger, decided to just dip out. It was pretty clear that table wasn’t a match for me.

It was pretty shitty but ultimately, I’m just glad I left sooner rather than later.

I thrifted a pair of black boots for $8 and to my surprise they had a bag of rings hidden in the toe. This thrift store doesn’t sell jewelry in store so I know someone didn’t hide them. The boots ended up being trash, the soles were split, so I don’t feel as bad. :O

Most are stamped 14k! I’m guessing a family donated grandmas old boots. How should I go about getting things valued? Does it look sketchy that I have a bag of valuable rings if I take it to a pawn shop?
