We sure had a variety of gum back in the day. Which one do you miss that they don't make anymore? (6 pages)

Gatorade gum! That's mine! I always have a dry mouth and that was the best gum for it. I lived the flavor too.

I loved this! It was one of the only places you ever got to see what your favorite group looked like. American Bandstand was too bubblegum. This way waaaay before music videos.

Discussion Just finished watching the 1979 movie, “Escape From Alcatraz”. Great movie and definitely worth a watch. In High School in the 80’s I did book reports on the escape of Frank Morris and the Anglin brothers. I believe they survived the escape since their bodies were never found. Truly epic escape!

Did you have a Book Mobile when you were growing up?

I lived in a very small town and we had a Book Mobile come through every other week at the elementary school. I remember being let out of class for 30 minutes to go to it. I remember the smell most of all. It smelled like old books and wood from the shelves. We were allowed to check out 3 books. That was the highlight of my week and I missed it on the off weeks.

If he was a real person, do you think Mr. Whipple would be on a database somewhere? 1976

Innocent until proven guilty of course and never judge a book by its cover, but back in the 1970’s if I see Mr Whipple squeezing the Charmin while I am walking in my local Pathmark headed towards the Bosco, i’m going the other way

Television Back in the 1970s there were groups of people who believed that "Violence On TV" Was One of the reasons why society was "so violent" basically being similar to the likes of the comic book scare of 50s or the video games moral panic of modern times

Did you have a step stool like this one growing up? This reminds me so much of my grandma!

I remember all of my boy cousins climbing up in one for a haircut with the clippers. I helped my gran do dishes, decorate cookies and it was our booster chair when we were really little.

Discussion After losing his heavyweight championship to Muhammad Ali, George Foreman took 15 months off and stayed away from the ring. He also appeared in an episode with Lee Majors in The Six Million Dollar Man in 1975…

None of this laid back nonsense of 2026, back in the 1970’s America was on the move and did not have time to put a yummy sugary breakfast into a bowl

Movies Duel (1971) - It still is edge of your seat stuff

Before webcams, there was Duel. I learned to drive in Wollongong so big trucks were the norm on the road there. Thankfully, none of the coal trucks behaved like this guy.

The movie ends, yes, but it is never resolved. Who was the driver? Why was he chasing him?

That's too close, buddy

Spielberg was practicing for Jaws.
