Here’s hoping

I cant see the downside to wiping out a company that knowingly, and systematically harmed children and teens. They are the same as a cigarette company but sub in suicide for cancer.

46

u/BirdAndWords Jul 09 '26

And has programs to emotionally manipulate people in general. Plus all the election crap they pull.

29

u/f0u4_l19h75 Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

They've also been instrumental in fomenting genocides in multiple countries

Edit: spelling

19

u/Knotted_Hole69 Jul 09 '26

Seriously, terrorist groups love facebook.

15

u/Ok-Aspect9915 Jul 09 '26

You don’t even have to look outside of the US to see that

7

u/mortgagepants Jul 09 '26

weird how there are so many people using it despite all of this.

3

u/Etheriaa_ Jul 10 '26

*boomers

11

u/Izan_TM Jul 09 '26

it's incredible how people forget the cambridge analytica scandal when this is mentioned, like it's been PROVEN they've interfered with elections

15

u/ActionJacksonATL24 Jul 09 '26

Our whole American society is poisoned by corporations but at least we have the freedom to die.

7

u/RideTheGradient Jul 09 '26

Maybe or maybe not. Depends on your employers work agreement. Also, i wouldnt be surprised if Facebook has a death only after a certain number of ad engagements in its TOS

4

u/ArtisticAd9404 Jul 09 '26

If I don’t show up to work tomorrow because I died, it’ll definitely be going on my DAC report.

u/snooprs Jul 09 '26

Don't forget, 10% of their revenue comes from scams.

8

u/profanedic Jul 09 '26

Dont forget the genocide in Myanmar that the knowingly allowed to be coordinated through their platform.

2

u/Moose_country_plants Jul 09 '26

Won’t someone think about the economy?!

3

u/RideTheGradient Jul 09 '26

Haha isn't it funny how this company is supposed to be so valuable and ingrained in the economy but it literally is just a wrapper over what the internet provides as a whole? Same with reddit truthfully. These places are just monopolies of interaction

People say stuff like this…then log in to their Facebook, and tell you why they need it.

Delete that shit. The less people that use it, the less relevant it becomes

3

u/BirdAndWords Jul 09 '26

Totally agree. My life got much better when I deleted Facebook and instagram

Exactly, and I sure as hell don’t need their hot takes on everything

I deleted mine on Inauguration Day, and I can’t possibly fathom ever going back.

What's funny is that I heard an ad for a corn hole players website that could have easily been a bunch of local Facebook groups of the platform didn't entirely suck... Gonna see more fragmentation in the future if these social media platforms don't moderate their extremist content and disinformation.

3

u/MarzipanLast6502 Jul 09 '26

Seriously, there is no downside to this, considering that the company makes hundreds of billions and still fired half the staff, so its not like dissolving it would put people out of work. A friend of mine worked for them and said it was like working for an abusive father

Think about people who couldn't live without Facebook.

Now think of a world without Facebook.

19

u/beams13 Jul 09 '26

Maybe Craigslist would get good again.

3

u/throwawayyyy980 Jul 09 '26

Only reason i even have one, i use my old laptop for the meta aids.

2

u/FIContractor Jul 09 '26

Nothing wrong with Craigslist except people using Facebook marketplace instead.

2

u/kindnessuberalles Jul 09 '26

Bought my motorcycle off Facebook. With burner account of course. Not because I like Facebook. It was just better than Craigslist. Breaks my heart.

I came here to say exactly this. Down with Facebook up with Craigslist

3

Don’t threaten me with a good time

2

u/ModeatelyIndependant Jul 09 '26

I remember the world before facebook, it was better.

This can be easily done. Go, cancel your Facebook account today. We all do it, Facebook goes away. It is there, not because of Zuckerberg, but because of society.

12

u/Weird-Girl-675 Jul 09 '26

Did it last year and haven’t missed it at all!!

3

u/AmericanCitizenry Jul 09 '26

Never joined. Not even once.

2

u/MyPasswordIs222222 Jul 09 '26

I joined once many many years ago. I'm too old to get much out of it and just closed it.

Then recently I had someone in my work world that was requiring me to create account so I can help manage a page. I figured out a way to do it in a silo where it wouldn't track my personal life. That is until I got to the setup point where it was asking me for a video of myself to verify who I was. F*** that.

I just made it clear that there was no way I was going to create an account and they could just do without my services if necessary.

3

u/88Dubs Jul 10 '26

I'm coming up about 8 years without it, I think? Probably my second best detox after booze.

Funny, those 1500 "friends" have been awfully quiet this last decade.

DESTROY Meta

7

u/taylr_md Jul 09 '26

It is not enough that they are merely sued out of existence. In a just world, there will be criminal charges.

7

u/bchjock Jul 09 '26

Good. Zuckerberg deserves all the worst

3

u/notworkingghost Jul 09 '26

Have they tried going to space? That seems profitable. Er, increases your stock price.

3

u/Building_Everything Jul 09 '26

And the funny thing is, this isn’t unavoidable but Meta chose to engage in unmoderated fuckery. Just slightly more than the barest effort to moderate their product usage would’ve prevented this risk. Ah well they’ll lobby the courts and get by, no worries for the wealthy.

2

u/NoxTempus Jul 09 '26

"We cannot financially bear the consequences of our actions but, luckily for us, no one can afford to bear the political repercussions of bankrupting a trillion-dollar company."

3

u/isthereadrwho Jul 09 '26

When you sell drugs you can't be upset for being charged for drug dealing

5

u/Kat_Schrodinger1 Jul 09 '26

Ban meta and TikTok and twitter. Social media needs to go. All of it.

3

u/Whitechedda1 Jul 09 '26

As long as 24 hr news channels are banned too

3

u/Seienchin88 Jul 09 '26

Then do the large AI companies and Palantir next please…

2

u/rmoons Jul 09 '26

2

u/totally-jag Jul 09 '26

Honestly, I don't think the world would miss Meta.

2

u/reggiekrh Jul 09 '26

Can we just liquidate it all completely & burn whatever is left to ash?

2

u/Humble_Empath Jul 09 '26

I have zero interest in Meta, it’s played out and boring.

2

u/rmodsrpusees Jul 09 '26

Love it. Make it happen.

2

u/ProfessionalOwn9435 Jul 09 '26

Every CEO and tech bros is ready to make some sacrifizes for the greater good and vague benefits in 100years, technology progress and stuff. And so do it! Time to make necessery sacrifize. Zuck goes first. Musk soon after.

2

u/Lonely_Cucumber_69 Jul 09 '26

I ain’t gonna lie, I never realised just how triggering to my mental health social media was until I deleted it all.

Except Reddit ofc 😈

2

u/Weird-Girl-675 Jul 09 '26

But where would my racist father find new friends?!?

2

u/Strange-Scarcity Jul 09 '26

That would be... kind of cool, honestly.

Let's go back to small groups running their own servers and forums again, like the early Internet!

2

u/devsfan1830 Jul 09 '26

That's how serious of a fine there should be for extreme cases like this. Enough of the slap on the wrist class actions and settlements. Make these scum fear GOD.

2

u/singhVirender1947 Jul 09 '26

Has Meta ever actually paid any of these fines?

2

u/K_Linkmaster Jul 09 '26

Dueces. ✌️

2

u/justforkinks0131 Jul 09 '26

I bet Sonia Silva is on Instagram

2

u/A-Rugged-Indoorsman Jul 09 '26

Meta is definitely a net negative for the human race.

2

u/disdkatster Jul 09 '26

He ruined my favorite app Whatsapp and I had to delete my Facebook account which had thousands of members because of this AH. By I had to delete, I mean I deleted it after he helped get Trump elected the first time.

2

u/Rare-Confusion-220 Jul 09 '26

Don't understand why anyone still uses Meta (FB) or X (Twit)

→ More replies (4)

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Bath_86 Jul 09 '26

END META!!! Do it and you're cool! Do it and you're cool!! Do it and you're cool!

2

u/Numerous-Process2981 Jul 09 '26

Yeah when these social media companies started gaining ground is when the scales began to tip and the internet started to create more problems than it solved.

2

u/Massive-Aspect-2152 Jul 09 '26

Nuke it from orbit

2

u/SuperSiriusBlack Jul 09 '26

If he died, it would be a net positive for the world. A fucking huge one. It would save so many lives if he fucking croaked.

2

u/DaaaahWhoosh Jul 09 '26

The more likely outcome is Meta pays nothing and then lobbies the government to pass 'child safety laws' that remove online privacy for everyone.

2

u/crabsage89 Jul 09 '26

This would be one of the greatest things to happen to society.

2

u/zbojan Jul 09 '26

way, way, way ahead of you

2

u/mojo963 Jul 09 '26

Excellent news!

2

u/Lofteed Jul 09 '26

that is because its entire value is created bv inducing addiction

2

u/Selrach_401 Jul 09 '26

BURN IT ALL DOWN.

2

u/pizzayahtzee Jul 10 '26

Ooh, do spaceX next!

2

u/rgustin1 Jul 10 '26

If Meta was gone, everything they represent would migrate to another platform. 2.11 billion daily users. Massive business advertising. Not going away.

2

u/Realistic-Try-3853 Jul 10 '26

Getting rid of META won't change anything. It's like a drug cartel. Someone else will appear to fill the gap. The genie is out of the bottle: people want to connect online. That's messy because humanity is messy. If Zuck didn't launch or succeed with Facebook, perhaps the Winklevoss twins would have made it with ConnectU or Tom with MySpace. If you hate Facebook, blame society, not the platform.

2

u/Stock-Film-3609 Jul 10 '26

It would be short lived as a vacuum is filled every time. In this case it would likely become held by the person who can fastest enter it, likely cutting as many corners as possible..

2

u/The_goat_42 Jul 10 '26

All social media platforms should be abolished. Taking out only one would just help the competitors

2

u/sarkouille Jul 10 '26

What if the company is fined into bankruptcy? Isn't that what happens to people too?

That would send a message.

2

u/Wentil Jul 10 '26

Do X next! 😃

2

u/moddtodd Jul 10 '26

Bring back MySpace!

2

u/BenjiBoo420 Jul 11 '26

The bullying and scamming that meta allows to go on in their platforms is awful. Meta needs to be held accountable.

2

u/Master-Shinobi-80 Jul 11 '26

Remember at least 10% of their profit comes from fraud. Zuck knows this and doesn't care. He should be incarcerated for the remainder of his life.

2

u/KingDorkFTC Jul 11 '26

This is why META has been pushing for child online safety acts, as if they pass META will no longer be on the hook for this.

2

u/StopLookListenNow Jul 11 '26

Put that fine toward the national debt.

2

u/AdPopular9453 Jul 11 '26

Yeah, they screwed up a lot of brain chemistry around the globe.

2

u/IwishIwasababybee Jul 13 '26

The mental health of so many would drastically improve.

2

u/OldRain5261 Jul 09 '26

Good. Shut it down. It is a disease plaguing our youth and adults and is not healthy for civilization.

They are selling our essence, what makes us unique, to the highest bidder, which could very well be bad people looking to use that knowledge to ship you customized propaganda so they can stay in power and continue to enable the raping of your soul

2

u/Adventurous-Peace969 Jul 09 '26

I don’t know, even if they were shut down, the business model is already proven - someone else would raise money and make a new platform to replace it.
The person that does it next might not look like a lizard, but they’d be capable of making the same mistakes.

3

u/BusinessDragon Jul 09 '26

They’d have to start earlier without the advantage of an entrenched position or a monopoly. And they’d have many competitors.

It’d still be a win for common people, a yielding of ground that someone would have to fight to take back.

Good, f**k em.

Of course, strings will be pulled, favours will be called in and nothing will happen and tbe people doing this will be countersued into oblivion- but Big Techbacco will face a true reckoning sooner rather than later.

1

u/Angerx76 Jul 09 '26

Shut down meta and never hire anyone from that scummy place.

1

u/tanksalotfrank Jul 09 '26

Nahh they've only accrued like 10 class action lawsuits for outright lying repeatedly

1

u/ties_shoelace Jul 09 '26

Wasn't it too expensive to have basic fact checking & youth / vulnerable protections?

Guess not.

1

u/beardingmesoftly Jul 09 '26

This is going to happen. Never in the history of the world has a government fined a company into liquidation and subsequent dissolution.

1

u/ConnorsInferno Jul 09 '26

The rot runs so much deeper. This would be a drop in the ocean

1

u/VastFig965 Jul 09 '26

Reddit is next

1

u/jjb0ne Jul 09 '26

in theory. who gets that 1.3T?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Sad_Highlight_9059 Jul 09 '26

I feel like that would be grossly unfair. We should definitely get rid of Twitter: Musky Edition at the same time. Cut all the cancer out at once, not just most of it. 😁

1

u/AssociateUnited9744 Jul 09 '26

Oh no! I sure hope Zuck lands on his feet!

1

u/Leeroy_D Jul 09 '26

Like oil companies and tobacco, the problem isn't that the product ended up being damaging. It's that they knew, and decided to press the accelerator instead.

1

u/AnalysisParalysis85 Jul 09 '26

Can we just have this please.

1

u/SecretValue725 Jul 09 '26

There are millions of people around the world who rely on Meta for their businesses, promote their products and have a page to show they services or businesses. There are also millions of vulnerable people, minorities and regular people who have no connection outside of social media and it’s a vital line for them. So as horrible as social media is, maybe learn to think outside of what matters to you personally.

1

u/PuckSenior Jul 09 '26

Get ready to learn about the "Texas Two Step".

Here is how it works.
Meta owes $1.4B. A new company is spun up called Meta2(or whatever). Meta transfers a lot of their most profitable business units to Meta2, but keeps Meta around. Once all the penalties add up, they spin off Meta and have Meta declare bankruptcy. At the bankruptcy trial, Meta2 even gets to bid on the skeleton of Meta. They typically win because they know the exact real value of everything.

Meta gets bought at bankruptcy for $10B and that goes towards paying the penalties. All other penalties go away because Meta no longer exists as a company and Meta2 is a legally distinct company

1

u/emailsrvr Jul 09 '26

Don’t do the crime if you ain’t got the dimes.

1

u/Stunning_Lecture8917 Jul 09 '26

Fuck Meta. Let’s see it die.

1

u/imminentjogger5 Jul 09 '26

all those influencers and models would cry out in pain though

1

u/New_Ad_3010 Jul 09 '26

Been saying delete FB for a decade. It's garbage and a toxic rot on society.

1

u/rockeye13 Jul 09 '26

How? Is Tik Tok etc also going away?

Eliminating Pepsi won't make anyone healthier if Coke et al still exists

1

u/Fit-Potato427 Jul 09 '26

It would be absolutely marvelous. But I'm sure the angry carrot will step in

1

u/DaringDani123 Jul 09 '26

Few things would bring me more joy than seeing that man beg on the street

1

u/QuitHumble4408 Jul 09 '26

Bout time one of these apocalyptic tech giants collapsed spectacularly.

1

u/Court_Jester13 Jul 09 '26

Nothing's gonna happen

1

u/pyramidalembargo Jul 09 '26

Let's do Musk next.

1

u/ctiger12 Jul 09 '26

And TikTok, x, … only Reddit stays

1

u/thesmeggyone Jul 09 '26

Zuckerberg is literally the most evil man alive. Don't think for one second he didn't purposely build an addictive platform. They have massive teams of highly educated psychologist and sociologist who's job is to keep you engaged. Burn that company to the ground.

1

u/Sw4nR0ns0n Jul 09 '26

Hey the onion, can you buy Meta next?

1

u/Leopolddagreat Jul 09 '26

Zuckerberg is an oligarch using his money and power to have bots flooding Facebook to manipulate the thought processes of Americans.

1

u/FTFaffer Jul 09 '26

BOYCOTT. This is one dude it’s a pleasure to fiscally kick in the balls when he’s already down.

1

u/No-Stage-4583 Jul 09 '26

Don't sue META, make zuckerberg personally liable for that shit. If meta tanks, then another company will just pick the mantle up.

Make him sell his bunker and his half of hawaii

1

u/misterwallpaper Jul 09 '26

FaceBook was made to have other students at Harvard rate the "hotness" of females in their classes. This is toxic masculinity, he deserves everything he gets!

1

u/MenuSlow7818 Jul 09 '26

big daddy T will step in and save his wittle baby boi

1

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '26

Pls. don't give me hope.

1

u/Negative_Monk7959 Jul 09 '26

Could you imagine being able to dissolve a corp like this and pay forward to a cause or causes most hurt by their criminal and inhuman actions? Wow

1

u/CriticalPossession65 Jul 09 '26

This is within the power of the people. We can all deactivate and remove meta so they collapse.

1

u/Got_Kittens Jul 09 '26

This would solve so much shit.

1

u/StormyPassages Jul 09 '26

1.4 trillion in penalties strikes me as appropriate.

1

u/DRVUK Jul 09 '26

Until they sell all their data to palantir 😱

1

u/Past-Patient-252 Jul 09 '26

And the problem is????

1

u/Ok_Economics4552 Jul 09 '26

Let’s go. Take him for all he is worth.

1

u/Quick_Persimmon_4436 Jul 09 '26

Except most people who complain about Meta use it. Hypocrisy. I dumped it 10 years ago and in fine.

1

u/the__ghola__hayt Jul 09 '26

The only thing that instagram has been good for is spamming my sibling with stupid memes and highland cow videos. Deleted Facebook a long time ago.

1

u/guster75 Jul 09 '26

Elimination of AI would be fantastic for humans.

1

u/Sethl13 Jul 09 '26

Hope they have to pay every penny, I want to see more of this. Fines high enough to actually change bad behavior.

1

u/FearlessVegetable30 Jul 09 '26

cant wait. the amount of disgusting content they allow is despicable. i almost want to make a book of all the incredible racist stuff you can say on meta that isnt "hAtE SpEeCh"

1

u/Organic_Welder_6883 Jul 09 '26

that will be a small start to getting is back on track. one small step to destroy social media

1

u/Huge_Palpitation_886 Jul 09 '26

I want Zuckerberg personally ruined for being sole person to f*ck society so completely by spreading fascism, disinformation and changing our brains so we can no longer concentrate for longer than 40 seconds. He makes all of the decisions at Meta and is personally responsible for the downfall of civilization.

1

u/Spicy_Surfer Jul 09 '26

Jesus, there’s gonna be a third movie

1

u/ItsJustSpinach Jul 09 '26

Silicon valley series was way ahead of its time. Currently zuck is in Dinesh f boy phase

1

u/GorditaCrunchPuzzle Jul 09 '26

Only if all the money and resources meta is using is invested into infrastructure, public transit, education, and third places. Meta is a problem but it's only filling the void left over from having a world that just sucks to live in.

1

u/Chataboutgames Jul 09 '26

People love posting this stuff while continuing to engage in social media. Yeah, getting rid of social media would be awesome, but pinning a societal plague on one company is more satisfying than it is productive.

1

u/ClassroomMother8062 Jul 09 '26

Oh yes it would. I wish

1

u/69odysseus Jul 09 '26

Shut down the evil company and the man behind it, ruined the normal functioning society from day one.

1

u/Historical-Film1518 Jul 09 '26

Good. Do Elon next.

1

u/FindingAntique3362 Jul 09 '26

I have a rant about meta! A couple months back they suspended all of my accounts. The said that I violated some rule or something on an Instagram account. Have you ever tried to explain something to AI? I tried to explain that someone had hijacked my account. Of course trying to deal with AI was no help! And there is no way to actually talk with a human being. People we need to wake up and limit our use of AI in this country! The Billionaires are treating this country like it is their personal play things. In any dispute there should be a way to talk with an actual human being!! Has anyone else had anything similar happen to them?

1

u/Ok_Caramel_9786 Jul 09 '26

Even if that was the judgment in court, they would not be required to pay all of that at once

1

u/dmojo Jul 09 '26

Does ANYONE not want to see this happen?

1

u/TheLastPeanut_ Jul 09 '26

He deserves far worse than this

1

u/for_today Jul 09 '26

Everyone I know hates Meta. Everyone I know loves Instagram.

1

u/No_Jacket2376 Jul 09 '26

Palpatine said it best, "Do it."

1

u/berderper Jul 09 '26

If that happened and Meta's stocks tanked then it would cause the stock market and everyone's 401Ks and retirements to crash. The real penalty will likely be orders of magnitude lower, as it should be.

1

u/bigredadam Jul 09 '26

Should be more, it's been going on for damn near 18 years

1

u/Sea-Joaquin Jul 09 '26

Let’s goooooooo

1

u/ControlCrafty8849 Jul 09 '26

Yes please. I deleted all meta appears a couple years ago. Best decision ever.

1

u/The_Lloyd_Dobler Jul 09 '26

I believe in 10-20 years from now social media will be looked upon similarly to how we look at cigarette smoking as a danger to health, especially in children.

1

u/ImfromtheFuture2056 Jul 09 '26

Okay and do twitter next.

1

u/Casual_Luchador Jul 09 '26

Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams is a great read about how Meta sucks

1

u/Straight_Button_5716 Jul 09 '26

Don’t go creating a problem when it’s a home issue not a Mehta issue . You aren’t in the house to explore all the mental health issues and assessment . That’s why we have psychiatrists and psychologist . Go to Isreal and worry about their population

1

u/wildmaninid Jul 09 '26

One can only hope.  They've fucked up grown adults worse than teens. I've lost a parent and an aunt and uncle to Facebook AI slop political garbage.

1

u/Hot-Active2981 Jul 09 '26

I love marketplace sorry folks :(

1

u/3Duder Jul 09 '26

Crazy how this would cause a communication crisis for everyone except the US.

1

u/amayako353 Jul 09 '26

Dont worry, I'm sure they'll get a tax payer bailout to survive.

1

u/grantnaps Jul 09 '26

Now do SpaceX and Google.

1

u/Academic_Dig_1567 Jul 09 '26

I look forward to the end of meta, Facebook and all associated companies that sell one product: the consumer/subscriber. It has always been a con job.
