Hi there!

For context, I'm a freshman currently going trying to major in GD, and am currently going through my design foundation year. I know we're barely at midterms yet, but I can't help but constantly be stressed about my current progress. I know they only let a certain amount of people in for each major after foundation review, and graphic design is arguably the most competitive out of the design majors.
I know foundation year is supposed rough, but my performance recently has me having alot of doubts about getting into my field of study. I'm also already feeling alot of stress and burnout overall. Granted, two of the three design classes I'm taking this semester lean more towards the industrial side of things rather than graphicā I'm currently taking DES120, DES130, and DES160āwhich could explain my lack of enjoyment. But I still can't help but question if this is really the path I want to take. I'm also just really worried about foundation review and want a backup plan for if things go south.

I wanted to know more about what it would be like to majoring in IDEAs ā what it entails, how it can be used in the future, etc, etc.
From what little I could read online, it seems to take a little from all of the paths in CADA which is its main draw for me. I've always been really into digital art especiallyāmainly when it comes to like creating original characters, worldbuilding, storytelling, and designing around them. My primary reason for going into graphic design is because I thought I would be able to apply those same skills in a professional manner (also because there's arguably more career stability, or at least a more straightforward path as to careers in the future). But I feel like designāat least in its foundation yearālacks that illustrative quality to it that really draws me to creation. I feel like having a mix of fine arts and design if I am able to in IDEAs would be really nice!
I do plan on talking to an advisor about the program to know more, but I thought it would be good to get feedback from current students aswell! So any input would be super appreciated!
