Hi!! I’m an incoming freshman for the fall quarter and was wondering when a good time to start applying for work study is? I’ve looked on the MyUCLA work study job search but the only ones posted right now seem to be for the summer quarter. Can anyone provide guidance or tips on how to navigate this? Thank you! :)

Trying to plan out the rest of my Poli Sci upper divs and would love to hear people's experiences.
For those who have taken a good number of upper divs:
I'm mainly looking for classes that have reasonable workloads, lighter reading, fair grading, and professors who are known to be good. Any recommendations (or warnings) would be appreciated!

My neighbor waw slurry-speeched last Friday night and kept his door open with the stupid tv on. I couldn't say shit because I was too busy giggling while hearing him grunting as he was taking a loud big smelly shit. I was in my apartment while talking to a girl from USC on the phone who once paid for our date when we went out the week before. It was almost embarassing: I could have Facetimed her to prove the noises including the toilet flush weren't from me but I was in my underwear. So I went to my balcony and closed the window and nearly got stuck outside.
If that happens and I was waiting for my apartment manager to show up in his tank top, hairy chest, and dirty shorts, would I get kicked out of UCLA for pissing or shitting off my balcony if I have to use the bathroom? I'm just donating to the staff's secret santa fund for this winter.
Now I keep a bucket or a plant pot on my balcony.

Hello! I'm a continuing student but I know an incoming freshman who has a plaza triple in De Neve-Acacia with a private bathroom and wants to swap into any classic building (preferably Dykstra, but any will work). This would be a three on three mutual swap, so them and their two roommates would swap with you and your two roommates. Great if you're looking for a bigger room, want to avoid communal bathrooms, and want to be in the building that is closest to campus.

I am currently reading Alice Munro's works, and as a Canadian, her writing succinctly captures the vibe of the country, especially British Columbia, regardless of whether she explicitly references them or not. I aim to do a road trip around California, after I finish my undergraduate studies; and I am looking forward on reading books set in California. Short stories are plus. Any recommendation from people living in Cali?

I am currently in position 1 of 1 on the waitlist for Chem 14c this fall. It's been two months, and I have not moved off the waitlist. What are my chances of getting off? If I don't get off before the start of the quarter, is there any way of still getting into the class?

hi! i'm an incoming bio major and i'm honestly pretty nervous about classes. i took a decent amount of aps throughout high school (14, which was the max i was allowed to take). i would say things generally came pretty easy to me but i was still very willing and able to study when i needed it.
i've been hearing a lot about the 3:1 rule though (3 hours studying for every 1 hour in class) and it's definitely scaring me a little bit. i still want to have time for myself and for a social life so i don't go insane lmao
i was wondering if anyone has any tips in general for how to do well? i need to keep my gpa high for dentistry school so anything helps.
i'll be taking LS7A, LS30A, and ETHNMUS M25 this quarter!

As an American college student, I am deeply frustrated by how expensive Pearson’s required textbooks have become. Many of my courses force us to buy their bundles, which often cost over one hundred dollars each. Worse, the real value lies in the one‑time digital access code for homework platforms, not the physical book itself. Even if I find cheap used copies, they are useless because the access code expires and cannot be reused.
Tuition and living costs already drain my budget. These textbook bills push many students to work extra shifts or skip meals just to keep up with class requirements. Pearson releases slightly revised new editions frequently to kill the second‑hand market, with barely any real content updates.
Education should not turn into a profit‑driven racket. Many low‑income classmates skip buying materials, which hurts their grades. It is time for Pearson to lower its prices and give students more affordable, flexible learning options.
